Something odd is going on with this store's hiring practices - i.e. management. It looks like most of the previous staff (Americans) have largely been replaced by people from the exact same 'background'. The pattern is hard to ignore and raises obvious questions about management's motive. The bigger issue is that customer service appears to be an alien concept to the staff and management. On one pickup, an employee whose background shall not be named, immediately pushed for a review. Apparently, earning five stars is optional; asking for them isn't. Stocked shelves are beautiful. Bakery is outstanding. Checking out is the worst experience ever. They pretty much tell you to do it yourself and then check to make sure you didn't steal anything on the way out. They need to open more registers. They need to greet customers. I am HONEST! I used the self-checkout and, as usual, felt the eyes of the watcher on me as I scanned and paid. But there was another standing by the exit who clearly saw me, too. I was at the checkout station nearest the exit and she stopped me before I reached the door to ask for a receipt. TWO people watched me (YES, I saw them looking) and the person overseeing the self checkout area said nothing to me. Why did I get stopped by the watcher at the door and have to show a receipt when I JUST paid right in front of her? Of course, I couldn't remember which bag I dropped the receipt in and had to remove half my items all over my cart. While I was searching she turned around to hand something to another employee, and of course several other customers walked right past without her giving them a glance. They almost always used to stop me and I never knew why. It was getting better, but I also took most of my business to online stores (I only go to Walmart for the cheapest items I can't get online, like my preferred mouthwash and for individual sized specialty items like a chocolate Easter bunny). Finally, I found the receipt and she didn't even come close enough to read it. She simply recognized it as a receipt and said okay. So it WAS something about ME that looked suspicious to her? I can afford to shop from virtually any retailer and I think I will be finding other ones from now on. I've finally had it with Walmart!!!! Lowest service always, guaranteed! read more

My adult son and I went to Walmart Haymarket. We purchased a lot of groceries. Canned foods, cat food. Because the cashiers were busy, we used self checkout. We tried to have A cashier check us out But we would have had to wait too long. So we proceeded to check ourselves out. There was an employee no less than four feet behind us the entire time watching us checkout. After we loaded our cart and paid, the cashier walked up to us and asked for our receipt. Keep in mind we are at checkout and have paid, being watched the entire tone. I cannot tell you how humiliating it is to have paid almost $350 for groceries and then to have someone take your receipt and look at your bags of groceries. This store has done similar things like this to us, treating us like thieves, and I'm done. I will never shop at this store again, nor will anyone in my family. I read reviews that have said similar things about the employees treating us like thieves and this is true. If they don't want us to use self checkout, have cashiers available and close down the self checkout stands. I did call and complain, and I was asked to give them another chance. This Walmart was decent. There were many employees available on the floor. One didn't seem familiar with the products on the floor. He insisted that an aisle display was the only place for crafting flowers. I found them available and taking up half of a row. There were several register lines open but I used the self checkout. Went in and did not find the item I was looking for. Asked an employee who had me spell Tahitian treat soda for the employee, on her phone. She then informed me it would take a long time to get it. I acknowledged her and said "Oh, okay ". I then apologized for bothering her. She let me know I should do something. I let her know I didn't mean to bother her. She had some teenage type retort. Interesting they'd allow that as it escalates quickly from there. Disappointed that the nostalgic product is I guess unavailable to me. Most people who work here very helpful but how can you help anyone where the majority of your product is either unsuccessful or it has been typed over so you can't get to it or you're completely out because the majority of the people who get anything are the ones who shop online. So because I come in to store to shop and I was like produce that is fresh and ripe considering we are paying double for so many things and we still have to check ourselves out, no cashiers it is worth going to Wegman's or Harris Teeter instead of shucking around . Eggs for $7, go to HT and the clientele is better. I was almost hit while loading groceries i to my truck, by a "man" smoking, trashed car with game stop bags, garbage in the back seat and dirt car with dents & scratches. Well stocked but they have people standing near the entrance to check your reciept as if you have stole something. They don't even really check anything just mark your receipt and make you feel like a criminal and it just holds up the line. read more

As far as being organized, it seems that this location has improved However, today, upon ringing up at a self checkout, in plain view of the receipt checker, I was accosted and accused of stealing, simply because ONE of the many items that I had in bags I was carrying. Mind you, it was a 12 pack of sodas, which obviously would be unreasonable to bag. I was required to remove all of my items out of their bags because I had the receipt in one of the bags. Hoping to save time looking for the receipt, I told her the exact price and which item it was. A 12 pack of Sunkist Berry Lemonade that rang up for $5.14. But that wasn't good enough. Trying to find my receipt took probably 10 minutes. While I was doing this, the receipt checker went to the self checkout I was at to inspect it for god knows what. Finally, upon me finding my receipt and her getting my receipt, I had to point out which item she thought was "stolen" being right on the receipt because she couldn't find it, even though there were only like ten other items. Stop accusing people of stealing when it's obvious, if you were paying attention, they weren't. Walmart security monitors for stealing. If they don't catch you, you likely aren't stealing. I cooperated completely and was STILL accosted by this receipt checker. And thanks to the wait, I was late getting home to my online Calculus 3 course. read more

I regularly shop at this Walmart and have never had any major issues. Giving it a 3 star rating because it meets my needs, no more no less. It's fairly new so it's clean for the most part. I haven't had to use the bathroom so it was a little disturbing to read another review with a complaint in that area. Glad I've chose to wait until I get home. The staff is just okay. I've never had a great experience with one, but I've never had a bad experience either. They have a grocery section, photo lab, eye/glasses center, tax service, and a garden center. They also have a Redbox, a Checkers and an Aunt Annie's inside the store. Carts are normally readily available so no complaints there. If I had to have a gripe it's that the few times I've had to visit customer service the staff was not very friendly. Can it hurt to wear a smile and act like you care? I've worked some crap jobs in my life and I always treated my customers like they matter. Apparently that is lost in this place. Besides that this place is what you've come to expect from a Walmart. The park situation is always abysmal and spots are so random then you have the fact that they take up prime spots for whatever sale they have going on. We use the pharmacy and although they have yet to get the drugs completely wrong they have a 10% of getting everything right in the first trip. Actually more often then now it takes at least two if not three trips to get it all done. I hate Walmart on principal too... the only real reason I go here is because the insurance I have has some type of Walmart discount. I wonder if its worth it every time I walk in. read more

In a Target dominated region, I have forgotten how great Walmart Supercenters can be. I visited on a Sunday afternoon, primarily to stock up on groceries for the week. We are talking about workers in this business facility who are LIARS! My husband and I are looking to buy PS5 and he has been going to this store almost 3 times a day. He went there one day on the day of when the store receives shipment and he was told that the shipment does NOT have any PS5. He went there the next day and he was told that they sold 4 PS5. After Christmas clearance to find item was in stock and cashier in Garden section Santosh (his name from the tag)... was left alone in garden section was very helpful. There are two items I regularly buy that are chronically out of stock, as per the shelves, and in stock, as per the website. Came to this store to purchase groceries around 6am. There's a 24/7 sign, plus the door was wide open with several people moving about inside. A farmer John semblance of stocking manager was rummaging through a box when he noticed me walking past. He very rudely stopped me with a "HEY!! Do you f***ing work here??!!!" Taken aback, I returned his question with an obvious "Does it look like I work here?" He said "You can't be here, you gotta get the f*** out." The Farmer John stocking manager then followed us through the store like a bunch of criminals to the entrance where we turned around and told him that we'd be in contact with Wal Mart customer care. We pointed out the 24/7 sign on the door, when another potential customer was subsequently walking through the door where he yelled "HEY!! You can't be in here." Never coming back. I went into Walmart today and waited in line at a register. The employee rang up the customer in front of me and I put my stuff on the conveyor belt. I stepped forward after the customer in front of me checked out and waited for the employee to ring up my 5 small items. The employee didn't greet me or speak to me at all, which was no big deal until I was just standing there with my stuff at the end of the belt while he stared at me for over 3 minutes without saying a word. After a little longer of just standing there waiting for him, he looks at the belt and said "oh this doesn't work". If there had been a sign or if he said something I wouldn't have mind just pulling my stuff up to him. But it took him almost 5 minutes of me standing face to face with him to even say one word. read more

First off... for being a "new" wal-mart, the bathrooms are already disgusting... I would have rather used a port-o-potty..... The bathroom lock was broken and I had to pee standing up doing the "hover" maneuver since the toilet cover box was empty...... so imagine me, peeing, hovering, and holding the stupid door since the lock was broke... worst experience ever... The parking lot is TINY so you have to park far away from wal-mart all the time, which is great for the folks who could use the walk but in the rain with precious items is just ridiculous... There's not a lot to expect from a Walmart. There have been a few times I've walked in to see that items were out of stock but in general never had major issues until yesterday. Last evening, took the whole family on our way back from dinner. After shopping for an hour, we realized just one checkout terminal was open and there were 4-6 self-check out terminals. It was just 8pm. To avoid the log wait, we decided to use the self-checkout terminal. After 15 minutes of the painful checkout process, one of the items needed the attendant's supervision. He walked in and while looking elsewhere clicked on "Cancel ALL Items" instead of "Cancel Item". That was it. We had to spend another 120 minutes scanning every single item that was nicely bagged and placed in our cart! OK, I'm done venting now. Phew!! read more

We stopped by at 7:20 pm on Christmas Eve to pick up some ice cream. Even though the store closed at 8:00 pm, we witnessed a gray-haired woman being turned away (by an entire group of male employees stationed by the only open entrance to keep people out) 15 minutes before the store closing. She stated she just needed some over the counter medication. I am pregnant and always need Tums, as a direct symptom of pregnancy. I can imagine, if I were without Tums on Christmas Eve and had to suffer from heartburn, I would not get any sleep! I understand the employees want to get home on time. That is reasonable. The group of young men, intimidating customers from coming in during business hours is not professional! I made it in and out on time, but I will be thinking about that woman (possibly in pain) this Christmas Eve. There are a couple of things they could have done: 1) Offered to escort her to the section, while she made her selection, reminding her they they close promptly at 8pm. 2) Officially, close at 7:30, if they really want to get out by 8pm. 3) Have directions to 24 hour pharmacies handy. read more

I was very excited that we would have a Walmart closer to my home, however, after visiting this location on a few occasions, I'd rather drive a bit further to go to another Walmart. The staff seems impatient and not very knowledgable about their products or locations. The produce never seems very fresh. Anything I purchase from that section ends up being tossed after a day or two. The site to store section is a complete disaster. At times there is no one to help and I end up waiting for extremely long periods for someone to locate my items. For the future, I will pay The shipping cost and just have items delivered to my home. It's the walmart on the way to the family's house from the airport. I can pick up all the stuff i need for my visit - almond milk, green machine, hot cocoa, plants for mother's day, shoe laces that just broke and hair ties since i forgot mine! But no bear spray (in case you were wondering) It's a pretty nice walmart. Large parking lot, clean, not dumpy or cluttered. Staff is available, but don't go out of their way to ask you how you are - which is just fine! It does the job! read more

Since I was nearby I just went in the store, but was charged $23.98 each. Walmart customer care said they will not match their on line price so I overpaid $8 plus tax because I bought in store instead of using curbside pickup. read more

So everyone is straight hating on Walmart. I will admit prior to this location I've hated every Walmart I've ever stepped into. This one is different though. The parking blows but when you get inside it seems like a ghost town. Most the employees look miserable but if you want to talk to someone who knows what they're talking about go to the fishing/hunting department. They always know where stuff is. This Walmart always has what I'm looking for (including random things too) I love that it's never crowded on the inside and the checkout is painless because I use the self checkout and the person who hovers near there is quick to help NEVER USE THEIR PHARMACY THOUGH!! DON'T GO TO THE VISION CENTER!!! Over Christmas I bought got an eye exam and bought contacts from a Walmart Vision Center in Ohio. When I returned back to Virginia, I decided that I wanted to return the contacts since the test pair was not working. The Dr. at the Vision Center in Ohio faxed over a copy of the receipt and prescription and was told by a lady at the Vision Center in Haymarket that the fax was received. When I arrived at this Walmart Vision Center, the manager (Brenda) was one of the rudest people I have ever met. She refused to help me and insisted that they had received zero faxes for the past three days. She refused to believe that I had bought the contacts from a Walmart and informed me that I was a liar. She started yelling at me to go figure out what the problem was and not to come back until I had it sorted out. I left the building and called the Vision Center in Ohio who re-faxed everything over to the Haymarket Walmart and called Brenda to make sure that she got it. After it was confirmed, I went back in the return my contacts and exchange them for a different pair. Brenda took my contacts got the new ones out. When it came time to exchange the old contacts for the new ones, Brenda couldn't figure out how to do it. Another manager had to be called after Brenda started swearing profusely when she couldn't figure out how to use the register and continued swearing in front of this new manager who let her continue. In the end, about 1.5 hours later, I was refunded the money for the first pair of contacts and had to purchase the new contacts because no one could figure out how to do an exchange. I'm not sure who made these people managers but those people should be fired as well as the managers I met at this Walmart. Neither of those managers had any idea what they were doing or how to treat/speak to customers. I will never go to this Walmart Vision Center ever again. read more

I had an amazing experience at this Walmart location the other night. First let start by saying this, ever since the start of COVID I have definitely noticed people not wanting to be as helpful and going above and beyond to keep their distance. I do understand that we are in the midst of a pandemic and we have to take certain precautions, but to be completely unfriendly and unhelpful like many people have been doing lately, just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. So I say all that to say this.. I came to this Walmart store to find some blinds and other home decor and stumbled upon this GEM of a man by the name of Jimmy. What a sweet older gentleman he was!! What a breath of fresh air!!! He was so friendly and helpful!! He showed me exactly what I needed and gave me other great suggestions, some that I actually went ahead and bought! I was starting to lose all faith in the customer service world until I walked into this store (Best Walmart Yet!) and met the best employee who actually changed my mind about the effect that COVID has had on people in the customer service industry! Way to go Jimmy!!! I will absolutely be back and am happy to say that this is now MY Walmart! read more
