The lady "selling" me eye glasses stood next to me instead of allowing me space to look for myself. Additionally after review of what was a mistake purchase, I made a call to cancel my frames and requested a copy of my prescription. I was told under no certain circumstances could the prescriptions be emailed to me because of "HIPPA". Drove back to the eye doctor and requested a copy of my prescriptions. I was then only provided 1 of the 2 prescriptions... i had to go back in yet again to get the second prescription because they were trying to pull a fast one on me. As far as not being able to send my prescriptions electronically because of HIPPA the excuse doesn't seem valid to me because when I went in to physically pick them up all I told the front desk was my name. Wasn't even asked to see a drivers license or even check my date of birth. Doesn't sound very HIPPA compliant to me. Know your rights. Just because you see an eye doctor doesn't mean that you need to purchase frames from them especially when they have limited options. They should immediately provide you a copy of your prescription before ever trying to sell you on lenses and frames.

Dr. Dix at Volunteer Eyecare is the best optometrist I have ever seen (pun intended)…read more I have an unusual prescription, thanks to astigmatism and monovision correction via LASIK surgery 20 years ago (which I would totally do all over again - life-changing, truly). Anyway, as I've gotten older, my vision has naturally deteriorated. I've been to other optometrists who have tried to give me corrective prescriptions (glasses and contacts) but they never seemed to get it quite right. I know there is an adjustment period anytime you get a new prescription but prior to my Volunteer Eyecare appointment, I would try to wear my "new" glasses for a week or two, but I always ended up back in the old ones. Dr. Dix gave me a thorough examination and talked with me extensively about my options. He was able to determine why prior O.D.'s had difficulty pinning down an optimal prescription, and he patiently answered all of my questions. The solution? One contact! One contact in my right eye has completely resolved most of my vision challenges. I still need glasses for computer work and reading smaller print, but for driving at night, reading road signs ahead, and seeing my neighbor down the street waving at me... I see these and so many other things clearly with the addition of just one contact. Perhaps there are other great eye doctors in Maryville, but I'll never know because I found the very best one for me.
