Almost immediately after the initial greeting, we were asked whether my mother had insurance -- not once, but multiple times. The question quickly shifted to, "What type of insurance is it?" We were initially assisted by someone who appeared to be in training, and then another employee came over and asked the exact same question again. The repeated focus on insurance happened before anyone took the time to ask what my mother was looking for or offer meaningful assistance with frames. While my mother was trying on glasses, another non-white family entered the store. After their greeting, they too were immediately asked what type of insurance they had. At that point, it became difficult to ignore the pattern. Shortly afterward, a Caucasian woman walked in, and the difference in tone and approach was striking. She was warmly asked what brought her in, what styles she preferred, and was engaged in friendly conversation. We did not hear her being questioned about insurance upfront in the same persistent manner. Insurance is a normal part of the purchasing process. However, when customers of color are immediately and repeatedly questioned about insurance, while a white customer is approached with warmth and general service questions first, it raises legitimate concerns about racial bias. The disparity in treatment felt discriminatory. For context, we spent $900 on two pairs of frames. Despite making a significant purchase, the service we received did not reflect respect or equal treatment. We will not be returning to this location under any circumstances, nor would we recommend it. Management should seriously evaluate how implicit bias may be influencing customer interactions. Every customer deserves equitable treatment.

I went into cohens last week for my glasses and I was greeted by a very sweet high energy pretty young girl named Erika, she took so much time with me. Not once did she get overwhelmed or upset that I was taking so much time deciding what frames to purchase. Long story short I spent $1600 on glasses and absolutely love them. Erika took her time and also picked out the best looking frames that suit me. I get so many compliments on them. I will forever look for her when I need glasses. I live an hour away! And would still take the drive next time!

Then they charged $90 for the contact FIT fee. When I debated the charges, they wouldn't give me my contact lens prescription! Yet they had me sign before the exam that I received it! The doctor and pre-exam staff were friendly and helpful, but the billing woman was not, and I felt pressured into their office procedure nonsense. I just wanted a simple eye exam.

The people here were great and did not show even an ounce of annoyance as I essentially tried on every single pair of frames even in the store -- even though that meant they would then have to sanitize each and every pair. Once I selected a pair and worked with an optician to place the order, we ran into a roadblock with my insurance, as another provider had already submitted a request for benefits authorization. Rather than telling me to leave and figure it out with my insurance, one of the opticians called my insurance directly and got the issue resolved while I waited. I was quoted 1-2 weeks for my new glasses to be ready, and to my surprise, I got a text the next morning that my glasses were ready! My glasses were fine when I picked them up, but later that night I noticed there was a very small crack in one of the lenses. I brought them in the next day and Flanders Family Eyecare replaced the lens free of charge. Again, I was quoted 1-2 weeks for the replacement, yet they were ready the next day. Such a quick turnaround time and a very wide selection of styles!
