We visited for the first time yesterday & overall had a fun 90 minutes. I chose this spot for my 4 year olds first ice skating experience as they had the kids "walkers" to assist first timers. The ice slide also looked like a fun added bonus. Purchased tickets ahead of time and they made it easy to add to apple wallet, and also texted and emailed a copy of the tickets/QR code which was great for me, but might be difficult to access for anyone not smartphone savvy or access. Check in and getting our skates was easy enough, although I had to go back a second time because the young man gave me the men's size instead of the ladies, so I went to the young gal the 2nd time to the skate window and she remedied that for me. We had the combo ticket but decided to skate first as they don't guarantee skate sizes or walkers and I was able to get a walker for an added rental fee of $15 which I didn't mind but would have preferred if we could add this to our reservation because we really could not have skated without it. They have lockers for your belongings if needed, we just left our shoes under a bench and it was fine. We put our skates on and immediately they were very uncomfortable, they tighten down with three plastic belt paths (think roller blades) and on their website it specifically advised to wear tall socks but not thick socks, so that is what we did. The skates were immediately digging in hard on both mine and my friends inner ankle bone. So much so that after 10 minutes we were in agony and decided to take a break and try the ice slide with our littles. The ice slide was fun, they had 2 of the 3 lanes open and someone at the top monitoring each lane. The tubes were in at least 3 different sizes which was great but we did need to wait a bit to use a red tube which were the smallest size for the 4 year olds. In the meantime we used a larger tube and they let us tube with them (we also had a combo ticket) and the littles on our laps. My child was scared of the slide so only went a handful of times but there is a snack shack and tables adjacent so we got some hot cocoa and watched her friend. All in all this was a cute spot and we had fun, the rink is small but wasn't too crowded on a January Saturday, the layout, decor and staff were all great, but I will try somewhere else next time since the main goal was ice skating and the skates were just way too uncomfortable. read more

What a cute little pop up event ! Brilliant idea for this to happen. Staff was great and all so respectable of the attendees. Many opportunities for photos too! Ambiance was soo pretty , everyone was full of laughter an joy! Weekend is great , it was not crowded today , Thursday at 6pm. Coco and nachos were yummy. We also booked in advanced .... 2hrs before arrival and had no issues. Parking is pretty easy to find , there are also many garages near by also. Walnut creek on ice was nice enough but I guess I certainly expected a bit more. Upon arrival, things seemed clunky as if the food working there needed a bit more training. Checking in to get skates was just fine in that we grabbed what we needed and hit up the seating to get started. The skates were a bit wet, not awful and fit rather well if tightened enough. It would have been nice to have someone to instruct how to put them on since it was my first time. Luckily I was able to watch someone else. Skating was as lovely as can be. I hung out on the edges while my husband freed himself to enjoy the full ring. He had a blast! And the ice was well taken care of. While he skated, I ordered a cocoa and corndog at the snack bar. Sadly, the corndog was just microwaved but the cocoa was delicious! Would recommend the cocoa! Lastly, we enjoyed the slides a few times but one was down for maintenance so the lines did back up a bit. They were fun overall though. It felt a bit crowded so I hope that if we go back next year, there is more room to spread out. Overall nice concept though! read more

I had so much fun here and was appreciative that there was another ice rink nearby. The parking lot always seemed packed, but I was able to locate a spot. Being that this spot was outdoors and holiday themed, it was crowded with lots of families and little ones. I usually go to Dublin Iceland for normal outings, so this was a nice holiday change. I don't like the skates as much though for that reason, I highly recommend still getting your own skates if you're a skater or would like to learn because it will be easier in my opinion to get a boot that fits you well and that laces up. That's my only grip, lol. read more

Such a fun time of year to go ice skating as we begin the holiday season. Parking can be challenging in the limited parking lot near by. Other than this, it was very festive especially with a DJ playing music and food, wine & Bundt cakes & a fire pit to make s'mores. The rink is a bit small bc of the skate walkers & trying to dodge a group of skaters with these walkers was a bit hard. Also, the ice seemed a little over due for a Zamboni resurfacing due to the many divots on the ice. I really enjoyed the inner tube ride, it had a nice slope to it so that I could glide quickly down that ramp. I had a fun time at Walnut Creek on Ice & would come back again. read more

Winter Magic is happening at Walnut Creek on Ice! We got tickets and my sister and I were able to enjoy a wonderful time at the ice rink ! They had pizza from Rocco's, cupcakes from Nothing Bundt cakes, wines and a charcuterie board. We enjoyed the ice slide over and over again and it was a great time because they had those tubes ! Reminded me of Tahoe :) After they took a break we went to the fire pits and sipped on some vino! Great atmosphere and there were plenty of people ice skating as well. Highly recommend !! read more

It's nice to have an ice rink each winter season, but it needs improvement and more staff training. Important things to note: - Tickets are only available for purchase by QR code via smartphone. - Tickets sell out quickly on weekends, so plan ahead or go during the week. - No ice rink parking at Civic Park lot, so look elsewhere (I'm sure people parked there anyway, but we parked at the Walnut Creek Library meters and cut through the park). - Adult skates are men's sizing and only whole sizes, so do the conversion before asking for your size. In addition, the kids skates are not wide feet friendly. - Ice slide is a nice idea, but too short of an experience and tubes are too heavy for smaller kids to carry themselves. One kid nearly knocked me down the stairs... Parents should be supervising and Staff should have a minimum height for kids to slide alone. - 90 minutes is too short when you have to fight a crowd and dodge "walkers," aka ice skating novices pushing bulky plastic versions of an elderly person's walker. They cost $15 to rent for the session, are somewhat limited, and people will try to steal yours. I know because I left mine unattended to help my son take his skates off, and someone walked off with it and didn't pay the $15 rental cost. In sum, I think they need to reduce the maximum number of tickets on the weekend sessions so people can have a better overall experience. Weekdays prices should be reduced to encourage more weekday attendance. Staff should be better trained in explaining the skates sizing, and walkers should be rented for 45 minute increments (2x per session), not the full 90 mins, so other people can have a chance to use them should they "sell out." Many were just sitting around unused. If you are a parent who wants to take your child skating, and they are 5 and under, there is a "Little Skates" session available at 10 am during the week. I had my son (5) with me on a Sunday 3pm session, and I will not take him again on a weekend. It's just too chaotic. Good luck out there! read more

This is my first time coming and im so glad i did. I went on a monday around 6. They let you in 15 minutes before your designated time. I purchased tickets before $20 for 90min ice skating and tubing. Both activities were a blast. The employees are so nice and helpful. They have cafe with drinks and snacks. You can also rent a walker. They have lockers but I just left my shoes out. Overall such a fun time and great winter activity. read more

My husband and I came in on Thursday night. It wasn't very crowded which was great. We received a friendly greeting upon entry. They helped us put on our wristbands. The ice skates were in good condition but my husband was unable to tighten his skates. There are walkers for $15 available for inexperienced skaters and also other items such as hats for purchase. I was able to hang on to the wall for security and passed people as needed. We made a couple of rounds around the rink then we headed to the ice slide. That was a great way to end our experience. What a great place to start the holiday spirit! Ice rink was great! The slide was my favorite! Poor guy was pushing everyone down the slide. Im sure he got a good workout in. Love the hot chocolate and s'mores area! So relaxing. Wasn't too cold outside that evening which was perfect. Kids had a blast! We didn't realize they were celebrating 20 years!! We went on a Littles Skate session which was for ages 5 and under with an adult accompanying. This was a great idea because the little ones don't have to deal with trying to avoid the big kids or the fast big kids running them over. Most of the 5 and under kids are just learning to get the hang of skating and practically all of them need the skate aid, which is like a skating walker. We had a really good time and I highly recommend the skate aid if it is your young child's first time skating, it gives them confidence to be able to skate long strides without falling down. The ice was not well groomed though and I would say that was the thing that needed improvement. It's hard to skate when there's little breaks in the ice or when it's not smooth. If it wasn't for the skate aids, it would've been a lot harder trying to skate over those little breaks and cracks. They have a parking lot, but it fills up pretty fast so I would say to go early. read more

First time skating in Walnut Creek. The rink was smaller than expected, but not too crowded which was nice. The good: The young staff was very nice, the decorations were cute. The bad: There was an older lady skating before the session started, about 20 min in she put cones in the middle of the ice and seemed to give personal lessons to 2 young girls. She wouldn't let anyone skate in her area, which limited where everyone could skate. I wasn't able to use the center part of the rink to do tricks and not get in the way of other skaters. The lady was rather mean too, chasing anyone who came in her area out, she sucked. The ice itself was bumpy and poorly maintained which made for a rough session. I probably wouldn't return to this holiday rink, mostly because of the caustic older lady, she ruined my experience. read more

Hate to say it but walnut creek on ice was a BIG disappointment and also I've heard is the best skating experience in the winter which is sad for me as someone who's grown up in seattle. It's pretty small (not as small compared to union square), but the main other issue is that the logistics are pretty bad and they only book the ice for a certain 90 minute increment, which doesn't help because there is no parking within the ice rink / in the park and you have to find somewhere else to go. They also don't regulate the kids / the walkers so we were constantly trying to navigate all of the kids / avoid them while skating and they only zamboni between the 90 min blocks which means that the ice gets REALLY bad. I think it's sort of cute for the vibe but not worth it value wise. They also dont charge less if you dont have the skates and it's kind of expensive tbh, so just go somewhere else if you can. read more

Fun local seasonal event! I've passed by this setup several times over the years but finally decided to try it in 2024 :P At only $20/person for 90 mins, I think it's worth it. About two weeks in advance, I booked tickets online for our group on NYE day. Glad they were open-- super cute activity before our NYE party! Staff scanned our tickets at the entrance, then had us file in to grab a pair of skates. The skates are as you expect from typical ice rinks-- a bit worn but still quite sturdy. For a staff of mainly teenagers, they were all exceedingly professional and kind. I was frankly impressed (and appreciative) given that they were working NYE! No spot dedicated for shoe storage, just left them under the benches where we changed into skates. Restrooms were portables with hand wash stations. The rink is relatively small, about the quarter of a standard rink, with dozens of skaters at any given time. Plenty of folks of all ages using their rentable walkers ($15/each). Staff are continually gliding around checking in on guests. Even then, it didn't feel too crowded and we had ample breathing room. When the occasional person fell, there wasn't any crazy traffic pile-up LOL. My only gripe is that they should resurface the ice more frequently. It was preeeeetty scuffed by our 3:00 pm reservation which led to a few beginner-unfriendly divots and bumps. A group of mischievous kids were even scraping a hefty pile of "snow" in one spot to make a snowman LMAOOOOO. But not too bad once you gained your balance. There were LOTS of experienced skaters zipping along gracefully without a hitch. Had a great time :D The 90 mins really flies by! Most of us hadn't skated in years so it was a lovely treat for winter. NOTE: I really appreciate their purchase insurance! Was not expecting an event like this to have an option to refund your tickets in case you can't make it. Skates smelled, were damp inside, and were unusable - they ran large and even after sizing down didn't fit correctly. They also leaned inward and put so much pressure on my ankles that I had to stop skating after 5 min or so. We came to get tickets in person to avoid the online fee, but they didn't let us purchase in person and instead directed us to the website. read more

Every holiday season my family cannot wait to this ice rink to arrive! Ice skating truly does make you feel like it is winter holidays! Unfortunately, this year they will be open only for a month from Dec 15-Jan 15, so do not wait and go skate! This year they improve their efficiency by selling tickets online only (you can scan QR code at the entrance). They also have food and drinks at the ice now as well, which we haven't tried yet. I've itself very well maintained, they renew it every 1.5. I wish they would offer hockey time early mornings( before school) like they did a couple of years back. read more

The concession stand staff dude was kind, but the hot chocolate was awful--it tasted like dirt. The ice was a big disappointment. It was slushy the entire time, and it clearly hadn't been resurfaced before our 90-minute session. Skating on it wasn't smooth and made the experience a challenge to say the least. One safety concern: an employee (probably late teens or early 20s) was skating way too fast, zooming dangerously close to people. It felt like he was showing off, and it wasn't safe for families or kids. Overall, my daughter had fun, and her smiles made it worth it, but I'd look for a different rink next time. They really need to resurface the ice before every session and improve the quality of their hot chocolate. Oh, and employees should tuck in the rental laces, asking patron after patron to do their job is not service-friendly. read more

The scates were in terrible shape. The laces were so frayed you could barely tie them and then others were monstrously long. The experience is great when on the ice. The kids working there, except for the girl at the little concession stand, had attitude problems, and really need to work on their customer service skills. Big reason for all the bad reviews. They have a "touchless" system, and you have to buy your tickets in advance. They have a QR code at the entrance. Third year in a row reviewing. This place is a mess. Over sold, packed and unsafe. The rink is smaller this year but the number of customers is not! I can't believe the city or the insurance company would allow the number of skaters they are packing in. The rink guards are in high school maybe and just skate around chatting to each other. Nice kids but where is the adult in charge? Totally MIA. Today a kid literally was skating around with a metal stick and the teen staff weren't sure if they could tell him to put it away. The 16 year old rink guard had to ask his manager who I'm guessing is 17? Great, a 10 year old is swinging around a stick capable of impaling someone while skating in an over packed rink. We only go as we enjoy lessons there but that's about it. They really need an adult in charge and to lower the number of tickets sold to ensure safety. read more

Do not recommend going, especially with small children. We spent a lot of money on tickets and arrived to a big line which in fairness went pretty fast but still went into our skate time. They were out of my son's skate size so we had to go up in size. Not really ideal when safety is in play and having skates that fit. When we were putting on skates my son yelped and said something was in his skate. My husband pulled out a screw, a long screw was in the skate. Next was the walker rental. They had a waitlist. How does this happen? You big tickets ahead of time so presumably the operator can calculate the amount of walkers per tickets sold. But no it's a racket. They just sell tickets to pack the place. There's no method to the madness except greed. It's not a safe place. The only positive was the manager I spoke with. He was really nice but all of these conditions are above him and lie solely on the operator. They'll be hearing from me. read more

The skates have absolutely no ankle support and it made it so difficult to skate with. Even if you bring your own skates the ice is bumpy and uneven and there's no refunds. This place is in serious need of new management and a better website. You are required to buy tickets for session online. It does list session start time but not the end time and allows purchase of session 10 minutes before the seasion ends. This is unclear to the consumer and you cannot get skates and get to the ice in 10 min. Then there is a no refund policy. So you can be charged for a session and never get to the ice and not be given a refund. This is BAD business! We will not be back. Better to drive to San Ramon Bishop Center. read more

The ring is tiny, definitely less than half the size of a hockey ring. We got online tickets for 130-3pm skate. Showed up 1:22, and waited in line for 20ish minutes. The skates don't have half sizes so beware. My blades were meh, my shoelaces were different on two different skates, one of which was falling apart and completely unusable because the inner lace had separated from the outer lace and the skates don't tighten at the top from metal hooks they need to be threaded. The outer lace was too big to make it through the hole. It was harder than usual to properly tighten or tie the laces. There are small lockers for shoes. Bring a lock though, no locks are available to rent. Locker probably won't fit a backpack but shoes and small purses are ok. There is no rules regarding bringing things on the ice though so I wore my backpack which was fine. Rink is tiny, the ice was partially melted/wet at the surface and heavily rutted in the need of a Zamboni despite showing up before the scheduled skate time. The worst part is essentially how overcrowded it is and the walkers they use. I rarely got to pick up speed, had to make ongoing continuous sudden stops because of people around me and the lack of space to maneuver around them, was run into several times, at least one time by a child speeding around in a walker they couldn't see over or couldn't stop. At least 4-5 times the walker density was so high 1/4 of the ring was totally unusable in those areas. I saw a few small children who knew how to skate well weaving between people but for larger people who are comfortable on skates id recommend you just go to Oakland ice center. read more

Review #007 - 2020 I can't even remember when was the last, or quite possibly the only time, I've ice skated in my entire life! It was probably during a youth church event back in the early 90's. I can't even remember if I stayed on the ice for more than 10 minutes because I didn't want to stay more than 15 minutes this time; but because my 3-year old wanted to try out ice skating, I wanted to be a good mom & encourage her to keep trying. We showed up at around noon on Saturday, January 11th. My two nieces have ice skated before so after I paid for our skates, they were already on the ice. My daughter & I had to stay close to the edge of the rink because we wanted to have the safety of holding on the hand rails & not fall flat on our faces. I tried to rent her a walker, but the wait list was so long because it was so crowded, that I decided that we would try it without. We went around twice & I gave up! The rink isn't that big & the ice on the outer edge is not smooth so we didn't have very much fun trying to avoid killing ourselves. It's $15 for two hours, which is not too bad & they don't really keep track. Not that I needed two hours any way. We were here last year as well for the Peter Pan Foundation performances and meet & greet, but we didn't skate. This year's event was much nicer compared to last year's. They did an awesome job! So glad we came to check it out because the girls had a great time! Best part is my 3-year old got to skate for free, plus no need to pay for her shoes! How awesome is that! read more

I came here with my younger sister thinking this place is probably going to be as good as the one in SF. We were completely wrong! The shoes were uncomfortable to the point that I didn't even want to skate anymore. I came here to skate and have a good time but it was really hard because while skating my toes were in pain. The ice rink needed a lot of maintenance and it was so dirty. The ice and everything all around was just old and rusty. I was so disappointed because I was hoping for a nice spot. Everything was all over the place and nothing was organized. It was over priced for a low quality place! My sister and I we did have fun but I could have gone someplace else and got my moneys worth! I came on a Friday evening, it felt very nice and relaxing to be skating under the neon colored lights with holiday season decorations. The colored lights are a lot more beautiful at night. There was a 15 minutes intermission that started at ~9PM to create a new smooth ice floor. Their playlist was totally my jam! They played majority upbeat hip pop songs, one holiday song and one 90s song during my 1.5 hour there, which was great to keep you feeling energetic while ice skating. PROS: I liked how they had a short interactive game. There was a green, yellow, and red light game facilitated by an MC for about 15 minutes. Also, occasionally we changed direction going clockwise vs. counter clockwise. CONS: The ice skate shoe rentals that my friend and I received had an extremely bad odor, which also lingered in the sitting area where people could change into skates/shoes. There are no toilets, but several porta potties and a hand washing station. However, I wished there was hand sanitizer readily available because many people are touching the hand rails. read more

On 12/14/22, I went online to walnutcreekonice.com to purchase our tickets ahead of time. After completing the order (inputting every skaters name and info, credit card info) I clicked submit only to receive an OOPS error message. I tried this process again. Same error message. I decided to purchase the tickets in person since there was clearly a glitch in the server the City of Walnut Creek uses. To my surprise the following day, I received 2 emails for my ice skating tickets, each charged $88.97. Seriously!! I called the City of Walnut Creek, explained the issue and requested a cancellation of 1 of those orders. I was told NO, and to call my credit card provider instead. The lady took down my info and told me manager would call me back. Nearly 2 weeks have gone by and no one has called me. I am forced to file a dispute with my credit card company. I'd be careful ordering tickets through Walnut Creek on Ice platform. We will not be returning. I just don't understand why businesses can't do the right thing for their customers. read more

Not only was the service poor and ran by teenagers who are just their for a check, they're completely insensitive for the well being of children that attend this rink. I hate to be the can I speak to your manager ass person but for real, I'd like to exchange some words with the manager of this place lolol. Their should be wayyyy more monitoring for this service and the audience it caters to. Not to mention they provide skates that are unsuitable which is a major violation to safety management?! I literally spend like 20 minutes trying to put skates on my cousins which you're charged for the duration of your time there. The skates literally kept coming undone while they were skating and the laces were too long and they could've tripped on their laces various times in the ice. Like, ummm?!? They must have full knowledge of this considering they make you sign various documents regarding liability. They clearly don't want to be held responsible for their unsafe measurements and just want to make a buck out of you! Also, I noticed immediately the ice wasn't maintained properly and I seen many children and families falling the minute they stepped into the rink while also expressing discomfort in their skates.
