If you ever wanted to eat in an 1880 house with unique and decadent food, this is it. The corn and crab bisque is exceptional and creamy. The chicken salad is not run of the mill. The cole slaw was very sweet and I detected hints of curry powder. The onion rings are homemade and awesome. The chocolate pie had a lot of whipped topping but was delicious anyway. Quick lunch stop after stopping to tour the battlefield monument. Quaint historic venue with great food. Service was as you'd expect, friendly and full of southern warmth. Pimento cheese and sausage appetizer was full of flavor. Catfish Poboy and shrimp and grits for entrees were delicious and can't go wrong with their iced tea. First off. Cool ambiance in a house with a few tables per room. Wife's shrimp and pasta was great... shrimp were cooked perfectly. I started with the gumbo... dark roux based amazing. Felt like I was back home in NOLA!! Crab cakes also good but ask for Romalade not the tartar. Did not disappoint! We are traveling through and staying the night in Vicksburg on our way home for Christmas. We decided to stay at one of the local BnBs and Walnut Hills is within walking distance. Since we are traveling and didn't want leftovers, we split the award winning fried chicken entree and ordered an extra side and shared it all. The chicken was really really good. Batter was crisp, chicken was moist, and no part was greasy. I love it when it comes out that perfect! We also shared a slice of the chocolate mousse cake (made in house). So good!!! So good!! So good! Well that is enough about the food ... Service was fantastic. Our server, Kenny, was great, too. Very friendly and swift in getting our drinks and food to us. We asked what the Tomato aspic appetizer was, he described it and it made our eyebrows left perplexingly. He said he was sorry he could not tell us how it tastes because he has never tried it. The food was good but the service for us was terrible. We watched 2 waitresses attending to the other tables. We had to find someone to request our check. Very bad service, for us. When in the south, iced tea is a good choice, so we ordered that as well. We both took our first bite of chicken and were immediately transported to another time, long ago. He was remembering his mother's fried chicken, while I was at my Mamaw's house enjoying Sunday dinner. You know a meal is excellent when it triggers such strong memories. Wow, 5 star all day long. This was some of the best food I have had in a restaurant in a long time. It took me back to Sundays at my grandmother's house. I had the fried chicken, purple hull black eye peas and mashed potatoes. Everything was awesome/excellent. Everyone in our group just raved about their food. The little homemade rolls that were brought out before the meal were very yummy and service was excellent. If you are ever in the area, you have to stop here. Our son ordered Fried chicken with spinach and broccoli, my hubby ordered Fried chicken with mashed potatoes and green beans and I ordered a large house salad (I wasn't too hungry). The portions were so big that I ended up having some of their fried chicken. They were delish. The service was good. But maybe because it was late (we went there around 8-ish) we didn't get the dessert we wanted, but a slice of cheese cake with pecan walnut caramel sauce was delicious. She said that the girl had went to go get her food 15 to 20 minutes ago and just disappeared. That woman was a blessing because I went to Beechwood and had a wonderful meal. I was even greeted when I walked in. It was shocking after the poor experience I just came from. It was Sunday and it must have been their Sunday lunch menu. I ordered the fried chicken with sweet yams, beans and greens. It came with a biscuit and corn bread. For dessert I had the apple cobbler. My wife got the crab cakes. Our server was very attentive despite the fact that he had to serve a lot of tables. My meal was okay at best. My fried chicken was warm so it appears to me that they make them in large bulk and serve it; thus it wasn't hot. The greens and beans were a little salty. The sweet yams were delicious. My apple cobbler was mostly apple and not much biscuit/batter. I guess because I had such a great southern meal yesterday, I was disappointed with the quality of our meal today. We were warmly greeted for lunch and our server was excellent in attention and detail. We started our meal with the Catfish cakes- two generously sized lightly breaded catfish cakes, similar to crab cakes.
