Walking in, you're greeted with a sense of an old western bar. There's a long bar along the back with a theme of old western style of wooden boards and almost like casks that you would see at a winery or distillery. Anyways, we sat at the bar and had a drink before heading to our table, which was right by the window. When we sat down, we looked around at a table behind us, and they seemed very disappointed. As we watched more and more tables got their bills and left. All of a sudden we saw a waiter come and give them a dessert while they were still waiting... They didn't touch it. At this point, we figured that they've been there for a while and haven't gotten their bill so they can leave. At one point the woman of the couple went up to the front desk to ask for their bill so they could leave... Finally, after they said 6 or 7 tables ahead of them got their checks and left, that they finally got it. They didn't touch the dessert... in fact they gave it to us because they didn't want to waste it. Of course we accepted. Anyways, knowing this we went to our dinner experience a little hesitant. Either way, we ordered: Fried Chicken Lollipops Ribeye 14 oz with a loaded baked potato as a side Cider Brined Pork Tenderloin The fried chicken lollipops were covered in a sweet honey glaze along with a little bit of heat. We both thought however that the honey glaze was a little too sweet for our tastes. The ribeye was very simplistic. It was pretty much salted and that was about it, a little overcooked as well. I tend to eat my steaks medium rare, and it came out medium which made the steak a little chewy and not melt in your mouth. The loaded baked potato was... a loaded baked potato. I felt the whole meal went by and we left with the thoughts of: "well, that was good, but what makes them stand out?" And we really could not come up with anything. This place isn't bad, I think they're a good competitor for other steak houses, but again they lack in differentiating. It wasn't amazing, and I don't think I'm a fan of this place as there's an amazing restaurant down the next block. If you're looking for steaks and a simplistic menu, by all means check this place out if you're in town. If you're looking for something more, I would look elsewhere. read more

First time here as we celebrated our one year anniversary. We were not disappointed. We ordered the 24 oz Cowboy Ribeye to share with mashed potatoes and broccolini. We ordered the Ribeye medium, and it came out perfectly. The seasoning was spot on as well. Easily one of the best steaks I have ever had. The mashed potatoes were delicious, as they were cooked and seasoned to perfection as the garlic was on point. The broccolini was amazing as well. Service was top notch, and what a great atmosphere. My buddy suggested that I make a reservation and check it out. Definitely didn't disappoint. I took a spot at the bar since I was alone. The bartender had some amazing suggestions for food and drink. I went with their house special old fashioned and it was spectacular. I then got salad- it was huge, delicious, then dinner - their menu changes here and there so I was quite happy to see the Prime Rib was available. It was delicious so was the Rotini and Cheese it had an amazing flavor and the brusslesprouts were great as well - normally I'm not a fan, and I was definitely a fan of these. I then topped off my amazing dinner with the Pecan Bourbon Cinnamon Roll. Oh muhhh gushhh... yes delicious. I'd definitely plan a second trip to have dinner there again. This place is awesome - from the atmosphere, the service, and then to the food. Wow, way to go Maryville for getting another helluva good restaurant. This is only a block away from Foothills Milling Co, which is one of my all time favorite restaurants, this place I know is gonna be one of my new favorite restaurants. It's located in the building that used to be 'The Market.' For the ambiance - I love the big brown leather booths, love the wood block cut wall, love the Rose Room that has a barrel for the door - super cool & I also love how the lighting becomes more dim as the night goes on. The food - I mean damn that cornbread, I'm gonna be dreaming about it for weeks. Literally the best cornbread I've ever had, the fried okra is amazing, the fried chicken lollipops are a wonderful snack full of tender chicken, tomato salad was fresh and I loved the herby creamy dressing on the side, my scallops were seared perfectly, the hanger steak was very good and those dumplings = yum, the mashed potato cakes were unbelievable, the banana pudding was to die for it was sooo good, the cinnamon roll is huge but amazing as well. I could literally take some of those home and have them for breakfast. The coffee was from Vienna Coffee Company - the local Maryville based coffee company that is so fresh and flavorful. I literally have not one bad thing to say about this place. Service was impeccable, at times I didn't even realize our server Julia was even there. She would bring me a drink and I wouldn't even see her put it down. That is a talent. I will definitely be dreaming about my next visit as this will easily become one of my go-to restaurants. The quality of the food, the service and the atmosphere are all top of the line. They are just opening so be patient as everyone flocks to the new restaurants, and I would definitely make a reservation that way you are guaranteed a table. If for some reason you happen to wander in here, they do have a bar where you can get full service. Did I mention they'll be open for Sunday Brunch?! Maryville has literally no breakfast/brunch spots, so this will definitely give the locals a place to go get a fabulous breakfast meal. Our second time visiting this restaurant. We drive over an hour just to eat here. We love the atmosphere here and the food is great. The restaurant is always clean and nice restrooms. Now the biggie. Our first time here we had an awesome waitress. This time we had Tina. Talk about a terrible attitude! She would never ask us if we needed refills. We had to stop her as she was walking by and ask. We even had to ask her for straws for our drinks. She asked if we would like a wine list and we said no. I feel she thought we were cheap after that. My wife and I don't drink so of course it was a no. A local couple and I assume regulars came in and was seated by us. She showed them the attention and repeated the attention while not even giving us a second look. I grudgingly tipped her according to the price of the meal but she was not worth half of it. The manager walked over to the "regulars" next to us and talked to them. Never one time giving us a look. I am very surprised at the holier then though attitude. It is the customer base that keeps this restaurant in business. The managers job should be to go table to table every so often and just ask if the food and service is good. From watching him he only goes to those he wants to. I do not think we will return. Many other nice restaurants in Maryville such as Bella's that appreciate the business. read more

We went to Walnut Kitchen to celebrate big accomplishments for two of the folks in our party of three. We were seated promptly and the hostess and waitress were nice enough. But, but waitress had no idea as to what beers they had available not did she know anything of their flavor profile. I'm guessing that she was underage. We ordered the chicken lolipops for the appetizer. They were very good. Our salads came out and they were alright. They just weren't anything to write home about (very little flavor and the greens were very bitter). For my entree, I ordered the 14oz ribeye. I ordered it medium rare with blackened seasoning and their blue cheese topping. The entrees came out far too long after the salad plates were removed. I could tell this because the skin of my baked potato was crispy (most likely due to sitting under a heatlamp for too long). The steak was seasoned to my taste but the cooking temperature was more medium to medium-well (also likely due to heatlamp exposure). The biggest issue I had was that my steak wasn't even a ribeye!!! It was a NY strip. I asked the waitress about it and after she clearly stated that she was unsure of the cut, she then assured me that it was a ribeye. Shortly after the General Manager approached and we had a conversation about the cut of the steak. He tried to convince me that the steak ai received was, in fact, a ribeye. I then proceeded to show him the difference between a ribeye and a NY strip. He just sort of made a comment to the tune of "you obviously know more about this than I do" and just walked away. Granted the steak was removed from our check, but he could have handled this much better than he did. Not that he was unprofessional, but he definitely isn't convincing that he is manager material. We will try them again in the future. Hopefully they have corrected their training deficiencies by then. read more

Oh wow! We discovered this restaurant last evening, and just wow! Every thing we ate and drank was an explosion of incredibly fabulous flavors. Everyone who waited on us was kind, friendly, attentive, and gracious - equally impressive as the food. The atmosphere and food id describe as rustic elegant. I am honestly very surprised at the amount of negative reviews on here for this place. Everything we had was perfect. We started with the chicken lollipops, which had a great crunch with some sweetness from honey. I was thinking about how I wanted more of them later that night. They also brought out some corn bread with butter which was light and fluffy and very enjoyable. We all ordered steak, I had the sirloin which was cooked perfectly and had this awesome crust on the outside, my mom and I shared sides of brussel sprouts and Mac and cheese, we wanted to try everything! These brussel sprouts. Let me just say I could have eaten those for my meal alone. They were roasted and crunchy and just amazing. I wish I could make brussel sprouts like that. One of the best restaurants on our Tennessee trip - beats waiting in line in Townsend, Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge go for a beautiful drive to The Walnut Kitchen. Located in Downtown Maryville - The bartenders are amazing - ask for an Empress, Blood Orange Margarita or Pomegranate Lemonade if you don't want alcohol. The Butcher Block (Charcuterie) and Cheese Board were amazing. All of their meats are dry aged. We also enjoyed their Fried Chicken Lollipops as an appetizer. I want to drop a 1 star review here but I can't do it so I'll explain why I want to. I looked up a restaurant to bing my friends to who are local to the area. I wanted something high end and good. This place seemed to check all from reviews. Well, we get there and we are the only people there and I was embarrassed as one can be. We decide to stay, and the waitress was rude. My friends wife wanted another glass of wine (this is where a restaurant really makes it's money) and they said no. Finally the bill comes out and it's nearly $300 and guess what? The waitress did NOT get a $60 dollar tip. The restaurant may reply with the whole covid excuse but it had nothing to do with it. read more

First time for us at this wonderful establishment. It has a very rustic and romantic atmosphere (especially in the back by the kitchen). We had reservations and were seated immediately. The back area is darker and cozier, however the kitchen is open back there. We found it interesting to watch the kitchen staff work. Our server had just started working there, but nonetheless, was knowledgable about the menu. My wife found a Cab that she liked, and I found (for the first time ever!) Buffalo Trace Kosher Bourbon. Even the Bourbon Kitchen in Lexington didn't have that, although it was on their menu! Our server started us off with their house cornbread, which we thought was the perfect cornbread in every way. I had the house salad with house dressing. It was good size and variety. For dinner, I had the 6 oz Filet Mignon. Very few restaurants offer a small filet, so I appreciated that choice (the other size they offer is 8 oz). The steak was prepared perfectly and tasted wonderful. I was able to eat the entire piece of meat (no fat or grizzle). I also had the sautéed French green beans. They were also prepared well. My wife opted for the night's special, pan seared Red Snapper over grits with a mango salsa. She loved it, and so did I (because I had to try it). Our server was attentive and formal throughout our meal. We really felt it was worth the visit. Although, at their prices, I wouldn't go there every weekend. Loved the location, beautiful interior but the vibe was pretty casual so we never felt like it was too "fancy" The chicken lollipops are a must try. Fun to eat and the chicken was incredibly juicy and fall-apart tender with a bit of sweetness from the honey. A mini cast iron skillet of cornbread with whipped butter is brought out ahead of your meal, and it was moist and tasty. My bone-in pork chop was cooked to perfection with a delicious peppery crust on the outside. It was a huge cut of meat and I had plenty to take home and make eggs with the next morning. Brussels Sprouts were out of this world - they have walnuts and a bit of sweetness to them - I could have eaten two helpings. My husband ordered the cider-brined pork served on bed of farro. The pork was fork tender and the sweetness of the chutney complimented it well. The farro added great texture and nuttiness. Shrimp and Grits were fine, but the doughy, undercooked cinnamon roll was not the dessert I was hoping for and while our server was nice, she did not know how to open our very expensive bottle of Cabernet, breaking off the cork, despite someone already pre opening at the bar. We just tried Walnut Kitchen did the first time while celebrating our anniversary. It was one of my very favorite restaurant experiences in the Knoxville area and we will definitely be returning. They do classics very well and all of the food we had was delicious. We had the seasonal appetizer of a panzanella salad, complimentary cornbread, and each had dessert. My husband had the ribeye and said it was one of the best steaks he has ever had. I loved my salmon and the side of Parmesan and bacon rotini was sinful! I recommend getting a reservation which is easy online through their website. It's also worth mentioning that I felt very safe.
