My 2015 Nissan Rogue was due for its Smog Check. My check engine light was on when I brought it in. I had the light checked at auto supply store and they said that the oxygen sensor was bad. Arthur looked at the printout paperwork and said that that may not be the problem. He popped the hood and he found the problem within less than a minute. One of the hoses was not connected to the engine and reconnected it. After another diagnostic check found that there may another issue but suggest that I drive a few miles to reset the emissions computer. After I drove the recommended miles I had the car smog check and it passed. I've brought in a number of cars we've had to Arthur. He is very honest, friendly and knowledgeable. I highly recommend anyone to bring their vehicle to this establishment. Definitely 5 stars. read more

Went to Smog check, the car didn't pass, paid $60 + $2.40 credit card fees. Went back after I fixed the car I told him how much it will cost and he said $60, after he finished, he charged me $70.98 and when I asked why he said for the it's for the smog certificate and and then he told me it's 4% charge and then he told me it's a 2% charge!!!! I never heard about the certificate submission to the market check with cost money, and he didn't tell me before although I asked him how much it will cost and he said $60, on top of that he has the price list on the wall without mentioning that the smog certificate will cost. It's not the first time I do smog check and I never had anyone ask for extra money for anything. The price list that they have is what they charge for. Never back to this place again. Went in with a coupon from July 17 and no posted expiration. Manager would not honor it and no good excuses. he quoted a price of %60, when I showed coupon for $29.75, he then offer $50. I declined and drive 60 seconds down the street to One Time Auto Repair and got a quote for $40 and was done in a few minuted. Great little local show and will visit One time again when I need service. I hate shops and stores that refuse to honor their coupons and advertise prices. To many fail at this or try to nickle and dime you with add on fees and such. read more

5/1/2018 We brought mom's '95 Toyota Camry to Walnut Smog & Repair. The car ran just fine before we brought it in. The owner said it didn't pass. We said we'd take it to our mechanic to fix what it needed to pass. He discouraged us from doing this stating we would have to pay again for a 2nd test. Smog check was $80 + 8.25 for the certificate, $90 to "Diagnose Customer Concern". Repairs: R&R EGR Solenoid $101.81 = part. "Work Requested - Timing Adjustment". Labor fees = $260.00 + 101.81 + 8.19 tax =$370. We did not "request" anything. The car now drives with decreased power and decreased acceleration which is a symptom of a bad or failing EGR Solenoid. This ONLY happened after he did the work to "fix" the car. We went to him to complain... he said, "I did what needed to be done." Threw up his hands and said, "No one has ever complained before." And walked away. DO NOT GO TO THIS SHOP! read more

Having an older car with a lot of miles is no fun when the smog check time comes. So many things could go wrong. And you have to trust someone. My experience shows that you can trust WALNUT SMOG&REPAIR and Artur who is in charge there. I used their services two times. The first time I needed the catalytic convertor, pretty expensive repair. It was actually Honda dealer that discovered the problem but recommended Artur and Walnut Smog&Repair as less expensive alternative to the dealer's prices. I think their recommendation should mean a lot. I did that and saved good amount. This year I had a scare when doing unrelated repair in another shop, they told me that I will need very expensive repair to fix the engine light. They quoted $2,400 (yes, two thousand). Well, I went to Artur and he fixed all in one hour for less than $200 (two hundred). read more

RUN don't walk, this place is a scam! The guy who runs it doesn't smile (creepy!), loves to argue, and didn't tell me until AFTER performing the test, it would be $$ more to re-test (my car failed). Good business would have been telling me upfront (oh, by the way, if you car fails, it will cost $$ for a retest!)! I only went here because there was an online coupon (which ended up being a total waste as I had to pay for the re-test!). He wanted to make my life easier the minute I pulled in, asking me to go relax while he takes care of everything. Arthur at Walnut Smog & Repair is the real deal! I couldn't get my VW Beetle to pass a smog test, because I had purchased a new car stereo. Apparently, when one purchases a replacement stereo (for VW), there is a disconnect between wires; consequently, communication with the computer for a smog check is lost. No communication: no smog certificate. The staff at the place where I purchased the stereo (Mobile Stereo on Colorado in Pasadena) NEVER told me I would have an issue with subsequently passing a smog test. Arthur, however, was able to repair the mis-wiring of the stereo and my car passed the smog test. Walnut Smog & Repair is the best! read more

First off I want to say that I am a part-time mechanic and I I'm pretty fluent in the art of b*******.. my car did not pass the smog the first time, I had tried to reset my check engine light before getting the smog so it wasn't on when I arrived but it was a problem that I knew of. Right off the bat he gave me the engine codes and I was super surprised to find out that they were the exact same codes that I knew of, he gave me an estimate which was about $300 less than anywhere else. Still giving me the option of having the problem fixed myself or having the problem fixed there either way I could come back and before even doing the smog he would run a Diagnostics to make sure that the problem was fixed and I wouldn't waste or throw away my second opportunity to pass smog. I opted to fix the car myself and returned about a week and a half later. This time I knew the problem was fixed, I had no check engine light, sure enough, when I pulled up first thing he did was connect the Diagnostics and make sure the car was good, before even running the smog :). The car passed smog with no problem. One thing is that every mechanics charges for a Diagnostics a minimum of $30. He not only diagnosed my car twice, he actually gave me the codes also, at no extra charge. I didn't get any run around it was straight to the point. And I got to say most likely one of the cleanest garage's I have ever seen. I would have gave another star but Yelp only allows 5. Thank you guys ! read more

I was driving around Walnut avenue and just decided to try this place. I was charged $50 for the smog check + the customary $8 for the certificate. While standing in the repair bay i looked across the street and saw another business with a banner stating $29.95. When I asked the mechanic why that one was that price he told he that they also own the muffler shop and send business over there. He also said "Why don't you go over there and ask them; I've been here 14 years..." I later called back and asked for a quote for another vehicle, this time I was given a price of $45, without even seeing the car. Finally when I asked if anything extra was done to my car that warranted the $50 fee I was told "i have been here 14 years, all places have different rents", not a concise answer. I hope the extra $15-$20 they got out of me will carry them far. My fault for not shopping around. Never again will I go there nor will I send my friends there. read more

It's hard to keep a classic going sometimes, and my wife's TowneCar is her glad-to-have-it car. So after going to the shop our mechanic recommend for specific smog repairs, that guy suggested his brother's shop for the testing. Oh yeah, I was concerned as any good consumer should be, but I laugh now because the treatment we got and continue to get is first rate and worth every penny. Let's face it...it's a smog check - I don't want to be there all day, so we are in and out in no time and if there is a problem when it is not passing, Authur can generally diagnose and let you know why or fix it on the spot.
