They charged $40 in cash on top of the $60 for the smog test because of a past error code that "may come up in the future." But it's a past error code. My car passed inspection. They charged for this in cash because it wasn't a legitimate charge, but they were refusing to give me the smog test paper if I didn't pay the $40 extra dollars. Don't come here. read more

Don't believe their pricing. I called this place, asked the price of a STAR Smog for my year & model car. Was told it was $45 credit, or $40 cash. I showed up later that day when I said I would. I came here super early on a Saturday morning and I was so happy that this place was open. Most of the mechanics on Walnut close over the weekends, which is great for them, but bad for those of us who work during the week. There was one technician on duty and I was literally in and out within 15 minutes. Not only was I impressed, he was super sweet and I was on my way! The cost is pretty standard, which is $40. My first option had a Yelp deal, but, since they weren't open, they didn't get my money! Knowing that this place is open early on a weekend is a huge place as it literally takes me three minutes to get there, fifteen minutes to wait, and three minutes to get home! I should have checked before started, but I assumed it's the other place's price. Price is much higher than the other place. After job done, the technician insisted that my car needs an extra $40 because the engine light is "going to light up soon" and I need to pay him this money to pass the test. I hate writing negative reviews, but I had to. We took our car in and the guy told us our catalytic converter didn't meet CA regulations - mind you, we had not had the catalytic converter changed between any smog checks and had passed all smogs before. We took the car to a mechanic to have it checked out to get it replaced. Luckily, the mechanic was honest - took a look and pulled up the CA regulations showing our car was completely covered. We had to pay for the initial smog, but definitely did not go back to get a second smog check. This cost us two smog checks and a visit to a mechanic to waste more time. This place gets no stars because he did an OK job but he seemed rude from the beginning in telling me how to park. I found this place by accident. they are STAR rated now I thought the Maps throw me off. I was on my way to somewhere else. I took My old lady 03 Toyota in and I was out of there in less than 10 minutes he's professional but not real friendly but not rude either , I will be back with my GMC very professional and he thank me for my business. The owner (I'm assuming) is a super nice and friendly guy! Called on Monday to make sure it was okay for me to stop in without an appointment. Told him I'd be there in 5 and he was perfectly okay with that. Drove up, and I guess a guy happened to beat me there, but the owner told me that it shouldn't take too long & to grab a seat. Since the market was down the street, I decided to just walk it there real fast & hopefully he'd be working on my car by the time I was finished. 10 minutes later I walk back, and the other guy's car is still being worked on. I wasn't too worried about it. It was a good 20 minute wait afterwards, but the owner kept apologizing non-stop. Can't be mad at that! My smog check was finished in like 10 minutes. I yelped the area, found this place, and was literally done (from drive-up to drive-away) in maybe 10 minutes. $40 for a smog check on a Prius, he takes credit cards, I've never had anything car related go easier. If you are in the area and need a quick, painless smog check, this is the place to go. He is on the corner of Walnut and Wilson, a little far back from the street down Wilson. Most certainly not a welcoming place and the fellow working here wasn't knowledgeable about really anything. I have a 2005 Scion TC which from my perspective works fine. Runs great, but didn't pass smog due to an issue with my gas cap not being tight enough (which I had to find out on my own). When I asked the tech about the fail codes, had no clue what they meant. Might as well have asked a 5 year old to test my vehicle. The only knowledgeable thing about this place is that they know how to take money, but not so much how to earn it. Apparently my 1990 Jeep Cherokee is considered a "high emitter" and so I had to take it to a test only station for my smog check. I pulled up at 9:05AM and was back on the road by 9:20AM. The technician on duty was polite (quiet) and extremely efficient. There isn't much of a waiting room -- more like a stack of patio chairs on the side of the garage. Fortunately, the service was so quick that I didn't need to sit down - I just waited on the curb. The cost was lower than expected ($60.00 for a truck including certificate fee.) I have paid as high as $80 at gas station smog checks and those made me wait hours. I will probably take every future car I own here as necessary. read more

Alen was the technichian, took my truck and ran. This place was super quick. I've waited longer at Starbucks. Totally dug the current Maxim Magazine in the Plastic Chair Lounge. Ok it's not a lounge, more like a walkway with chairs strewn about. But it's cool, cuz you can see your vehicle being checked. I love to watch the tires spin on the testing line. DO NOT GO TO THIS CROOK! Would you think a transmission warning would be reason not to pass smog? I didn't either. This guy turned on the engine twice, saw the TRASMISSION warning each time and did not inform me that this would be reason enough not to certify smog. Then he quietly does his paperwork, shows that the emissions are ok, then tells me he can't certify the car because of the transmission warning. So essentially he charged me $32 just to tell me that the transmission warning invalidates passing smog. If he was an honest and legit guy, don't you think he would have said something BEFORE starting the test? I went here during my lunch break, and assumed it might be busy at that time of day. It wasn't. I drove in, was greeted warmly, and the testing commenced immediately. I was back at work in 30 minutes. I'm not sure if they take debit/credit cards. There was a card processing machine there, but the invoice reads "cash only". Fortunately, I had the cash to pay.
