I will start off by saying that prior to meeting Tatjana I had one very positive balayage experience and one very negative experience with the same stylist at a different salon. I was very nervous going into my appointment because my hair is fine and broken so terribly I couldn't grow it out. I decided to get a cut, style, conditioning and full balayage. Not only did Tatjana do an AMAZING job on the on the cut, she restored my faith in the balayage look, she was super nice and made me feel at ease! Balayage doesn't have to ruin your hair if it is done right, and Tatjana definitely knows how to do it the correct way. I love my hair color. Sammi did an excellent on my color and she took the time to explain the way she colored it and, after care plan and future plan if I decide to bring my hair color even brighter. She listened to my needs and understood that how fast my hair grow so she color my hair in a way that would blend in my dark regrow better. I LOVE THIS PLACE! I'm usually greeted by the sweet receptionists and offered a nice refreshment. The salon is a cute little loft with the hair stylists downstairs and nail technicians, a massage therapist, and an esthetician upstairs. The hair salon consists about half a dozen of fabulous stylists! All of which I would highly recommend; however, the stylist I personally see is Emylee. She's a total character, and never dull to talk to! I praise her for her blow-drys, they're always on point(: Today I was just going to go in for a gloss/blow-dry, but the salon got in some new fun colors by Schwarzkopf's Colorworx line and I had to try the pink, which came out to an awesome bright pink! I'm so happy I found Sammi! I came in today for a cut and color- it had been 6 months since my last cut and color, so it was time. I recently moved to Santa Barbara and was looking for a new salon. I don't trust just anyone with my hair, so thanks to the other great reviews on Yelp, I decided to give 1329 a try and I'm SO glad I did! There were several factors that made my experience so wonderful. Frist, Sammi texted me the day before letting me know that she was looking forward to meeting me and that she reserved me a parking spot. This made me feel so welcomed! Second, the salon is gorgeous and the staff is amazing. I was offered a beverage the moment I walked in and taken to the chair promptly. Sammi came over and took several minutes listening to what I wanted and looked through the photos I brought her. She explained everything she was going to do with my hair ahead of time and made me feel welcomed to tell her at anytime during my appointment if I wanted something different. Her assistant, Lindsey was also amazing. She gave me THE best shampoo and did a wonderful job with my blow dry. Third, the time spent was completely appropriate. I have been to other high-end salons where my cut and color has taken 5+ hours. I was in and out in 2.5 hours. Sammi is a talented artist, who has trained among the top stylists in the world. She's extremely knowledgeable and really look her time not to damage my hair while giving me the results I wanted. Sammi is amazing. I moved to SB a few months ago and was nervous trusting someone new to my hair. The first time I was there she took the time to understand what I wanted and explained everything she was going to do before she did it. My color had been previously botched and she was realistic about what she could do in one session and what to except. Needless to say my hair came out great. Sammi is also very transparent about the maintenance your hair will need once you leave the salon. Knowing I didn't want high maintenance hair she cuts it in such a way I can just blow it out and go without any additional styling when I'm home. I've been to Sammi about 5 times since then and I completely trust her. I never loved my hair when leaving a salon and the weeks after but now with Sammi I do! I was a tourist in Santa Barbara. The first time I was there I paid 120$ and the result was ok. I was back there visiting Santa Barbara one year later and for the same service the bill was 230$. At the moment I did not say anything because Sammy was busy with another customer but the day after I asked her why that huge difference and she told me that she used some products to hydrate and nourish my hair and she forgot to ask me if I was ok with that. I went here for the first time today for a woman's haircut and style. Based on the previous reviews, I had very high expectations and was expecting to be blown away. I had an appointment with Sammi, the owner of 1329 Salon and Spa. DETAILS: When I first arrived, I checked in with the receptionist then briefly waited to the side nearby the chairs. Sammi came over, introduced herself, then we stood at a mirror nearby the entrance and discussed what I wanted to do with my hair. We decided to go with layers and to cut off a few inches. She then introduced me to Emylee, her assistant, who would be helping. An important thing to note is that they do *dry* haircuts here. I thought it was cool, as most salons cut hair when wet. Most haircut appointments here probably begin with a wash and blow-dry first. I then sat down with Emylee as she began to blow-dry straight my hair (I had washed it this morning as I hate the hair bowls at salons- they're usually neck-ache inducing for me). Meanwhile, Sammi was working on cutting the hair of another client. I waited about 5 minutes or so after my hair was done getting blown out for Sammi to finish up with the other gal and come over to me. We then discussed my hair part (she decided to cut my hair while it was parted in the middle since I do sometimes switch which side I wear my part on), and we determined to cut off 2.5" The haircut itself went fine, and we chatted a bit. After the hair cut, she had Emylee come back to finish styling my hair (blow dry more with a bit curled in at the ends) while she went to do someones color, I think. LIKES: Both Emylee and Sammi seemed happy- they liked their jobs, and were easy to talk to. My haircut was nice, but I wasn't blown away in a "holy smokes, this was the best experience in my life" type of way that some other people seem to write about. That said, I think that maybe color is a big strength at this salon, and I would definitely return for hair color in the future (ie. bayalage). DISLIKES: I'm not used to having two people work on my hair interchangeably, so that was a bit odd for me. I think that people who normally see the owner or "Head Stylist" are probably used to it, and it's no biggie for them, but I kinda prefer seeing the same person for the whole service. Also, I wasn't sure how to handle the tip afterwards? I tipped just over 20% on my credit card, and hoped that it was shared between the ladies. Also, the price is a bit high in my opinion. Sammi is amazing. So amazing that, although I use yelp regularly, I've never actually had an account or left a review but this salon and sammi definitely deserve 5 stars. I've been to her twice now and I'm always nervous because I tend to be picky and honestly my hair experiences in the past have not been great but both times I've been to sammi she's been honest about what's best for my hair and how we can get the color I want/ still keep it healthy. I have naturally brown hair but sammi has made it a beautiful blonde with baylage and baby highlights. Seriously, I walk in with my hair looking depressingly like Tom Hanks' hair in castaway before be leaves the island and I leave with my hair looking like I just won an Oscar for a movie called Girl with World's Best Hair. I did not enjoy my experience here whatsoever. I had called to make an appointment, but I still had to wait 45 minutes before I even sat in the chair. Probably the reason for the long wait was because there was only one woman cutting hair for the five people in the chairs. I don't know why they wouldn't hire a few actual hair stylists, although they had plenty of girls working the front desk. They were even the ones to wash and blow dry my hair (which was her holding the blow dryer at my head without moving or brushing my hair at all). Not only was I not getting the attention I expected for the price I was paying, my hair did not turn out AT ALL how I requested. My hair was lopsided, but the cut was not the worst part. I had asked for balayage coloring, but what I got was overly-bleached and very obviously incorrect highlights. I will NOT be returning to this salon, and do not recommend it to anyone who wants a salon visit that takes less than 5 hours for sub-par results. read more

I just got charged $175 for a hair coloring application that was not only poorly executed, but also completely not what I asked for. The stylist did not listed to what I wanted, and instead of an silver ombré I got a few crappy blonde highlights in small sections of my hair. I have been to this salon two times, both with SAMMI. The first time was okay except that I had to wait 30 minutes past my appointment time to even start because she was running late or overbooked herself. She did not apologize or thank me for waiting or anything. The second time was a disaster. Sammi was working on two other people at the same time as me so she mixed the color, but had some non-stylist add the color, shampoo, and dry the hair. I was a light blonde and asked to go to a dirty blonde. I even showed her two picture which were pretty light. While washing out the color, she asked me if it was okay if that my color be "a little darker than I asked for" (aka she messed up). It ended up coming out as dark brown, NOT EVEN CLOSE to what I asked for or showed her pictures of. Rather than apologizing or offering to fix it, she insisted that it was better and that it 'matched my eyebrows,' which is just ridiculous. I felt ignored, insulted, and I overpaid ($150 about) for a cut and a color nothing close to what I wanted. (The cut was fine though) I gave her two tries because I assumed that if she is so popular on yelp, she must have had an off day the first time. It turns out for this place, yelp has failed me.
