They…read morerefuse to take responsibility for their serious mistakes and gaslight me whenever I confront them. The latest incident involved their failure to notify me when my mom fell at the facility. They sent her to the ER and had a contracted after-hours medical service call me from an 1800 number at 6:48 AM. This provider didn't inform me to look out for such a number in emergencies, so even if I had been awake, I wouldn't have known to answer. The Optum service team admitted they couldn't provide a specific number because calls come from various numbers. The facility claims Optum acts as their extension, while Optum says they aren't employees of the agency and that their relationship with the facility does not stop the facility nursing staff (staff in general) from contacting me directly. My mom has been at this facility for years, and they have always called me in the past when she fell or needed to go to the hospital, not the contracted Providers. From what I understand ( by research) this appears to be a state and federal violation. The bottom line is that my confused elderly mom was sent to the ER without my knowledge, and I only discovered it the next day when I noticed a wristband on her. She told me she asked the nursing home to call me, but they didn't. The facility continues to avoid accountability, as usual. I requested their grievance policy and form to file a complaint but was denied. Their regional Director decided he would not afford me this right and had the form completed by their Administration, not reflecting my chief complaint. I've received conflicting answers from the facility and the State Rep responsible for holding them accountable. This has been an ongoing battle just to protect my mom's rights and not be bullied by Administration (ignoring me many times, dismissing my concerns and gaslighting me) there because I am advocating for her.

Their Physical and Occupational Therapy were wonderful. I had each therapy 5 days a week. They push you, but not so hard as to cause you to hurt yourself. The location is a long way from home, but it was the best. Going home today and will start out patient therapy Friday. Since I live alone - in patient rehab was definitely the only way to go! The best thing I can say is, you aren't dumped in a room and forgotten. The aids went out of their way to make me comfortable. My recirculating ice machine came with me and the aids would set it up for me. All medications were dispensed in a timely and professional manner. If anything else has to be replaced, I would not hesitate to come back. I forgot to mention their therapy dogs.

Each person and family is different and has different needs to be considered. She has moved through the entire community from Independent Living using Aldersgate At Home to help manage medications and have daily eyes upon her to Assisted Living to Asbury Rehab (as needed) to the Dementia Community to now the Asbury Long-term/Nursing Care area. Aldersgate has truly been a gift from God. My stress has continued to reduce as she has moved through the community. It has been so comforting having EVERYTHING she needs in one facility vs having to move organizations at different stages of care. The staff (saints sent from Heaven above) are professional, warm, kind, funny, honest and have cared for my mom like she was their own. At each level, the staff got to know her by name. It helps to enter Aldersgate early so the staff gets to know you, can see changes in you and assist you through the stages as needed. They truly care, are professionals and can guide you and your family through the stages as changes need to be made. It also helps when they are making the call to help a loved one get additional care vs you making that call. Your loved one is more receptive to the change when they realize the professionals are making the decision not their family. They still might not like it because they may be leaving new friends as they move to another area of campus but the family doesn't become "the bad guy". The staff is amazing at navigating with family dynamics. The staff moves around campus so as your loved one moves they do see some familiar faces as they make transitions and the staff has knowledge to pass on to new staff on how to best handle someone when needed. The facility is very clean and well maintained. I personally think the food is very good and frequently pick up lunch/dinner for myself in the cafe after visiting with mom. I have also eaten in the main dinning area with mom in the past and it was good. On occasion, like any place I might have chosen something I didn't care for but that's normal...overall very good. FYI..there is a black female chef in the cafe that makes the best omelettes for breakfast....yummy. Also, dont try the cappuccino crunch ice cream because it's addicting! At times when visiting from out of town, I have rented one of the rooms so I could stay at the facility but have my own space. While not fancy, it was clean and maintained. The facility gets pretty quiet early yet you can get a good walk up and down the halls at night or around the gorgeous campus during the day...don't miss the azalea garden. Aldersgate is "Top Shelf" in my book. If you or a family member needs care, I cant think of a better place to be.

There are no options not to pay via ACH. There are no options outside of paying a monthly fee to use your preferred pharmacy They failed to honor several rights we had in the contract including: 1) to be treated with respect, consideration and dignity - this applies to senior management at the facility in being rude, lying, and being non responsive to calls or emails while holding the family and resident to a higher standard, 2) to receive adequate and appropriate care and services - be it failing to do laundry or losing items (often I had to do it myself), or in billing by adding fictitious charges and ach"ing money without informing that they were too busy to deposit a check, 3) Even the owner of the facility at Senior Living Facilities failed to properly acknowledge and investigate my complaint. Not only do they drastically overcharge they have no awareness that the facility I took my mom to after 2 months is over 2,000 a month cheaper yet even with all these documented failures was not interested in refunding any money. The issue with their pharmacy was worked out after almost 3 months when they wrote the entire bill off. For 10 years my mom paid less that it charged me for 2 months, yet The Charlotte didn't care, or look into a different pharmacy. By comparison when I explained why would not use their preferred pharmacy and documented it, that pharmacy was replaced. I wouldn't bring my worst enemy here

Most of the clients there were in dire need of care, where my mother was very high functioning in comparison. A referral of this nature isn't appropriate for someone who is new to hospice diagnosis, and is still working through information, and starting to improve, this seems like a set back. I know that it truly isn't, but it was our interpretation. Perhaps down the road we can revisit, but I feel like the best place is at home, surrounded by family, and fill in the gaps with private duty. Not leave the home again. ​

This was to help her to regain her strength in standing and walking. It was a horrible experience, because rehab never happened.My mother is in worse shape than before she entered. I continue to blame myself, because I normally would check out reviews and do a visit. I was also told by a medical professional not to put her here , because they're not on the hospital radar. That's a flag , I should have payed attention. My mother visited this facility about 15 years ago and was very pleased , she had two knee replacement's.This was her request to go back and I wanted to honor that. First of all no Care meeting, or can I say no meeting at all until I suggested that meeting through the hotline, this meeting happened 2 weeks of her being at the facility. Care meetings , plans are held in advance or day after entrance into the facility. The care plan is like a vision board for patients progressing .After they utilize all money on her insurance they're ready to put her out. I did my early Monday morning visit before I went to my office. About 20 minutes into the visit the social worker enter the room, told me that day and that visit your mother is being discharged today which happens to be Monday 1/23/2023. My response no, absolutely not. You're supposed to give me a notice before that happens, not a 20 minutes notice. In other words you putting her out because insurance had ran out. Now this is a 93 year old lady we're speaking of. I had to bring it to her attention that she has a UTI , not in her right state of mind and you're doing this. Still no meeting with the care team , only the social worker to tell me she's been discharged. At that point she said that she may be able to get her a few more days because of the UTI. I left and she called me back and told me she could stay longer because of the UTI. Later on in the week Friday morning 1/272023 , I received another call to say she was been discharged on Saturday 1/28/2023. This is not a 48 hours notice that's required to give to patient or the family. At that point I reached out to Corp. after several attempts to reach the director who would not answer nor return my phone calls. At that time , I spoke to Corp , who got in touch with the director and he called me after I reached out to them. He set up the meeting This was the worst , unprofessional meeting that I've experienced. You got the business office in the meeting asking me to pay money that I was not aware of the debt. You used up all the insurance, no rehab and just did nothing and she's the worst as day one , you're discharging her without the proper care. At Novant Health before coming to the facility, she could stand with help, now she can't. Old my goodness director and staff unprofessional. A pack of liars and people that look at your love ones as a number, not a loving person. Also fast forward my mother discharged on Saturday 2/4/2023. Before I went to get her another patient at the facility entered her room and touched her. A male at that. When I arrived to get my mother you got 3 nurses in another hall talking and no one in the hall where my mother room was located. If someone would have been in the hall , this probably wouldn't have happened. When you touch someone with permission that's assault on that person. Why in the world are you touching her arm anyway, she don't know you and she didn't invite you in her room. She's 93 so why are you in her room and why are you touching her , that my question to Mr. Director that said residents are freely to go in each other's room.My mother is 93 and a unknown man touching her is not allowed .How can you freely go In someone one like that , not so. When you touch someone without consent and that's assault. That's clearly what he did , I wonder what else was his motive. But for the director that clearly told me this man is free to roam the facility and go where he's pleased is a red flag. I can write a book about this place. Please run away from this place if you really care for your love ones. It is so bad that we had to hire a sitter during the daytime. She doesn't want to move because she has friends there. She sees the facility physician and she has been sick for 4 days. For 4 days we've asked the nursing staff to contact the physician. Finally, I called the physician and got the doctor to give orders for the nursing staff to provide care for my mom (get lab work, etc.). Unless you're able to go check on your loved one daily, don't move them into this assisted living facility!
