This is a nice place for family and friends that are like family! I was out with some folks and while I thought of a different place to travel, my mother thought more locally and it was smart. We went in and picked the toppings. Other people had suggestions to what to eat as well as the pizza. They were quite receptive and kind. When the food was ready everything was served with kindness and well-controlled. We were a semi-big group (one with an even bigger appetite and somehow I am not talking about me!) and the service was hospitable. The food was tasty as well. Yes it was pricy but worth it. Absolute worst Stromboli I've ever had! Where's the cheese, let alone the extra that I paid for!! It was swimming in the sweetest Pizza Sauce ever! 8 years ago when I last reviewed them, I now feel I might have been a little rough. I mean, I complained that a mini cheesesteak was 6 bucks in 2014. And now, that's a bargain! When I gave them a shot this week, I noticed that they had a special for a small cheesesteak, fries, and a soda for just under $10. And I jumped because that's actually one hell of a deal in today's inflation. So I went for it. And I did enjoy it. The roll was soft with just enough crust to it to make me happy. The onions were cut thick and sweet the way I like them. Meat was seasoned well enough. I felt like it needed a tiny bit of ketchup but not a lot at all. I will judge a cheesesteak on whether I think it needs ketchup. The truly great ones don't need it at all. I'd say this was a good tier 2 level. I actually really liked the fries. I was eating them fat too much before I even took my first cheesesteak bite. So I appreciate them for having a reasonably priced lunch option in this day and age. Keeping with tradition I got the Walt's 1939 cheesesteak. It came with wiz, bell peppers and fried onions. I am not a wiz guy and I prefer roasted or sweet peppers to bell peppers. The wiz was on the roll. I liked it there much better than poured/squeezed/ladled on top. The bell peppers didn't take away from the cheesesteak. Nice roll. Maybe Conshohocken bakery. I did ask but they have different roll suppliers and the phones started to ring so I did not want to take up any more of the counter person's time. She was a wonderful and helpful person. read more

Pleasantly surprised. I ride by this spot often but decided to order as I didn't feel like cooking. It was a long short holiday week. Ordered the chicken cheese steak special - half a steak, fries and a soda. Such a good deal. Also ordered a small pepperoni pizza for lunch tomorrow. Don't judge me. I like warmed up pizza. This was one of my favorite spots a few years ago when I moved here. They closed and remodeled which was desperately needed. The new restaurant is huge and beautiful with plenty of seating. The prices went up which I expected so we didn't come as much. Ordered a cheesesteak with provolone and fried onions and the sandwich was really light on the steak. When i opened the sandwich there was too much empty space for me ESP if I see the bread. It's just ok and would be better if they were generous w the meat Will I be back? Not sure read more

Super disappointed. I used to get steaks here regularly 30 years ago and I had many great steaks. This just sucked. The meat was good but the roll was toasted and burnt. I have been here many times over the past couple of years. From what I heard they used to make a pretty good cheesesteak. I haven't had one yet, but I keep going back hoping to get one. I ordered a large cheesesteak and the wife had a small. With an order of fries and 2 small drinks our bill came to about $28. For that price I am hoping for a lot of meat. The sandwich was definitely lacking. I felt like there was more cheese on my sandwich then meat. They aIso toasted the rolls, which I am not a fan of. I am going to move on from Walt's and their cheesesteaks. I think I can find better sandwiches at better prices in the area. I will say the restaurant was clean and the staff was very friendly. Walts in Clifton Heights has a reputation of making one of the best cheese steaks in the area. (Saying they are one of the best in Delco would not be much of a compliment as I've not been impressed with cheese steaks locally since I arrived here seven years ago.) The fact they have been in business since 1939 might have something to do with it. The restaurant has come a long way since then. The recently completed renovations have left a bright, inviting and large dining room to enjoy your meal. The place was quiet when I arrived at 6PM today. Was greeted at the counter by a helpful young lady happy to take my order. I grabbed a bottle of Walts Own Black Cherry soda to drink and ordered a Pizza Steak. It didn't take long for the sandwich to arrive. I should have paid closer attention to Top Yelpers Steve S and Jim H and NOT ordered the larger size. The pizza steak was huge - overflowing with meat. Way too much for one person. It is chopped up steak which to me hides a multitude of sins. It tasted average at best and was much greasier than I like. The provolone cheese was ok. The sauce was spaghetti sauce - not pizza sauce. The roll was good. I was not impressed. Compared to John's Roast Pork or Steves in Philly, it falls way short. The search for a great pizza steak in Delco will go on. Walts isn't it. read more

It was one of my favorite places until today. I ordered a sandwich and there was a man ordering lunch. He went behind the counter and ate it with his mask down. The older Caucasian women who took my order, made my sandwich and I noticed that she didn't have her mask over her nose. One of those Delco places you hear about, known for the life sized pizza box chef standing by the doorway. It gets good marks from some other trusted Yelpers so it was worth a try, especially since it's on the commute from my new job. I just ordered the small cheese steak, because I've heard they do steaks well. I took it to go, the whole process from ordering to walking out was less than 5 minutes (although this was a Wed around 8pm). Steve S pretty much nailed it as usual. The small was the perfect size for me. When hungry, I usually go for the large at steak shops and wind up feeling stuffed and bloated, telling myself I'll get the small next time but never do. Only lately have I been listening to the Angel on my shoulder rather than the Devil. Like I said, the small was perfect. Filled me up without leaving me bloated. It had a good flavor and all of the components (meat, cheese onions and bread) were proportioned perfectly. Bonus points that I was able to eat it in my car without it falling apart all over me and my car. My one complaint may be that it could have used more salt. That said, it's better for places to under salt things than over salt them. If I'd eaten it there or at home I would have hit it with a little more sodium but in my car I didn't have the option. No need for them to change their ways though. Would it be gluttonous of me to keep a travel salt and pepper shaker in my car because that's a better option. As Steve mentioned in his review, the price is what would keep me from hitting Walts more often. $7 plus tip jar is a bit steep when other places charge less or give more. Overall though, Walts is definitely worth checking out and among the top steaks in Delco. read more

First visit to Walt's since there tear down remoldel. The new sit down area is open and clean looking but pretty boring. Its one big room with the order counter separating seating from the kitchen. Given the tear down and drastic difference in appearance I expected a menu that would be more creative than the typical steak shop and I was dissapointed. We called ahead and picked it up to eat at home. We ordered a pizza with extra cheese. It was pretty good but not exceptional pizza. We'd probably go there on occasion for pizza but more often we'd go the extra 15 minutes for Bella Roma pizza in Springfield. The broccoli bites were ice cold, bit even warm they would have been average. The milk shake was good, but again nothing special. The thing that effects my decision on whether to patronize Walt's more will be determined next visit. Tonight the woman who took our order was rushed and didn't care that the way she treated me came off that way. It was even worse in person with the guy who took our money and gave us our food. He was down right rude. None of the 5 people working there was friendly or engaged us. I guess it could have been a bad night. If that happens a second time, we won't go back. read more

Just finished eating at the new Walts Steaks. It just reopened Monday after a lengthy renovation. We were excited to go back but were underwhelmed. The menu looks like a thousand other steak shops/pizza places in eastern Delaware County. Food was fair. My boyfriend and I used to come here all the time before the renovation. I actually liked the old walt's.. it seemed more personal, a home - feel like place. Now it is very wide open with a bunch of chairs. It is clean and nice dont get me wrong, but not what it used to be. Now on with the food, the cheesesteaks now are just ok. French fries are cut very largely. They are a little pricey considering how much food they actually give you. Every time we come here we get the same woman who takes our order. She is so rude. Very impatient and just plain RUDE. I do not like her attitude. There was no one there today when we went and I was talking to my bf saying I THINK I am going to get a hoagie mind you I was not even talking to her and she budget in and says SMALL OR LARGE? continues to rush on the order. I used to love walts. I've been getting food from them since 97'. Some of the best hoagies and cheesesteaks I've ever had. Moved away for a while and I was excited to finally come back and try the new walts. I have been getting various things for the past year roughly once a week.It has seriously declined over the past couple months that I've been ordering. From the quality of the food, they change certain items for cheaper ones, like the onion rings, the milk shakes used to be amazing, now I won't even order them I believe it has something to do with the new staff, all young kids, people hanging out in the back there's just no attention put into your food. Walt's in Clifton Heights is better than it gets. What a pleasant surprise-having moved out of state some time ago and returning, dreaming of the cheesesteaks I remembered for years while living in FL. The roll: unmistakably Amoroso. The steak: steaming hot, right off the griddle. So hot, it steamed my classic Amoroso roll to ethereal perfection. So much meat, it was falling out into the platter. I had to ask for a fork. So juicy, tender and not one shred of gristle. The last bite was still piping hot. It was served quickly, cheerfully and exactly as ordered. This is way better than any steak I've ever had in South Philly, and certainly tops any suburb I lived in across multiple Southeastern PA counties. This is how it's done. So glad I stumbled on this treasure. I don't understand why Walt's Steaks was recognized by the DelCo Daily Times only in 2007 for "Best of DelCo." They deserve to be crowned every year. read more

I am basing this review on the grilled chicken salad I ate as it is probably the best I have had in the area. It is heavy and has a ton of chicken. BASE price is cheaper than a lot of others in the area (see below). Much more economical to pick up. I think they use Uber Eats or something like that. Delivery comes with a $2 extra charge and they want a tip on top of that which drives up the price on a $8 salad. Also, a $10 minimum not including tip / delivery charge. All that said, the salad is the best I have had in the area. I had the cheesesteak as well. It is about average; which in the cheesesteak capital of the universe means they got it right... just not anything special to separate themselves from the 100s of others who do it; some better than others. read more

The cheese steak was hard and dry, the fries stank and were soggy like mashed potatoes, the cheese steak was cold, the pizza made my skin break out and I'm not allergic to anything, 0/10 would NEVER eat here again. After spending $60 and tipping we reviewed our food and were disgusted!!!! After we called back they hung up on us, customer service was HORRIBLE, ignorant people, horrible chefs very disappointed. First time trying Walt's , and will be the LAST!! ordered the marinated grilled chicken salad and my boyfriend ordered a cheesesteak. The meat I got on the salad was a mystery!! It was NOT chicken I don't know what it was the lettuce was not fresh nor was half the veggies on it. My boyfriends cheesesteak was burnt and there was hardly any meat or cheese on it. I stopped in for a cheesesteak and a shake tonight and was totally impressed with both. Not only was the food great but the place was both spacious and clean. It was my first time there in over 50 years and reminded me of when my 'Dad' used to take me there on way to 'Playtown Park'......never thought that one sandwich and a shake could satisfy not only an appetite but a yen for much needed nostalgia as well......Walt's was responsible for making a 'good day' a 'great day' for this ginormous hungry customer!!!!.......When time for 'Best of Delco' to start reaching out to voters, this place has my vote for both cheesesteaks and shakes.....My vote for not only Best of Delco but right up there or above any of those South Philly mainstays.......once again.....Thanks to the new Walt's for bringing back 'Our Walt's' read more

Walts used to be one of the best steak places around. Since the remodel the steaks just aren't the same, the steaks are still decent but no where near what it once was. My suggestion to anyone who is a long time lover of walts steaks is to stay away, you will be disappointed. read more

Walt's is a gem. The steaks are as good as, if not better than, the best South Philly faire. The square hamburgers are fresh and perfectly grilled to order. And their fries are perfect. The grill and wait staff make you feel at home as soon as you walk through the door, and the new management has only improved upon a long-time Clifton Heights institution. The decor is vintage luncheonette --right down to the Coca-Cola radio on the shelf behind the well-preserved original counter. You'll love Walt's. We certainly do. read more

What can I say, Walt's is a Clifton Heights landmark. A throwback to luncheonette diner days, Walt's makes quite possibly one of the best cheesesteaks ever. I had actually never been to Walt's until this past year and finally decided to give them a try. I ordered a Bacon Cheeseburger and Fries and it was less than satisfactory. The taste, texture, everything. It was like eating a rubber toy with playdough. I decided to give them another shot and ordered take-out. I didn't even want to finish my meal.
