I came here last night for a LANY concert, and it was *ok*. There were 4 lines to get into the venue. 1 VIP and 3 general admissions. Nobody was socially distancing. A few people had masks on, while others didn't. My friend and I got there about an hour before the doors opened, and the line wasn't too long. By the time the doors opened, the line was decent, but nothing crazy long. Some advice would be to have your friend group split up into each line and move to the fastest moving line when doors open. Even though my friend and I got there super early, people who arrived after us got into the venue first because the attendant checking our COVID vaccines was extremely slow. The two other lines were moving 2x faster, which was kind of annoying. WAMU theater does require proof of vaccination or a negative Covid test for entry. Everybody in the audience was pretty young, so luckily, I didn't have to deal with any annoying drunks or aggressive people. The venue does require you to wear masks at all times regardless of vaccination status. However, people took off their masks once they were inside, and nobody seemed to care. There are two bathrooms, but one of them is shut down due to Covid. The open bathroom had TONS of stalls, so the line moved incredibly quickly. Overall, it was decent. read more

Worst venue EVER!!! Security was awful. We were crushed when Yeat came onto the stage, and had to be pulled out from behind the barricades, even though we paid the VIP $$ to be up front - after waiting hours to be there. I literally felt my sternum snap. Security ACTUALLY said, "No we don't throw the drunk people out, we just move them to the back until they make their way back up again." I have gone to Wamu multiple times in the past year. Never once did I have an experience with staff like I did last night. I was assaulted by the so called 'supervisor' who thought it would be okay to put her hand under my underwear!! Literally touched my vagina in front of everyone. I understand you are looking for drugs and whatnot but you are not the police and have no right to sexually assault me and publicly expose me. I had to tell her to please not touch me there for her to stop and realize what she was doing was wrong. I hope no one else has this experience and I feel extremely lucky to have been able to gone in the crowd and have a good time, but I am disgusted by the behavior portrayed at this venue, it's sickening. Beautiful show but please watch out for the middle aged white woman with frizzy black hair and a look like she has the right to touch you wherever the fck she wants. This will be dealt with :) BTW to get to my underwear she had to lift up my jersey that was covering my butt. I wasn't indecent or even signaling that that would be okay. Told her that she was more than okay to pat me down but exposing and sticking your hand in my underwear is not a pat down. Just caught Don Toliver's sold out show and had to miss the opener's set due to poor crowd management. The organizer spent 20+ minutes begging the audience to "take two steps back" and threatening to cancel the entire event only a couple songs into Monaleo's set. You would think wamu would adjust the barricades to segment the crowd or have proper staffing for crowd control after all these years. Severely disappointed they made me miss Monaleo, and their poor management resulted in people being crushed. I even witnessed a very young unconscious girl being carried from the crowd. read more

Decent venue located right by the stadiums. I came here for a show and the location is definitely really convenient and accessible, as it's located right by public transportation/light rail. The acoustics were pretty good, too. But there are some strict rules here that I would highly suggest reading before attending a show. There is a strict bag policy here. To be safe - make sure you you have a clear bag for all of your goods (like what you'd bring to a Seahawks game). I would not risk, trying to bring even a satchel, clutch or wallet. When I was in line I saw many people who were turned down because they were trying to carry a large wallet inside. On the way here though, there was a tent with cubby holes that will actually store your stash for a fee. I didn't have to deal with this issue, but I would be cautious of trusting this third party to watch my stuff outside. You make the call. I had general admission tickets, which are standing room only. If you don't want to stand the entire time - you must get seats, which are more expensive, generally. Tall people suck at concerts, but I will say that because the stage and venue is so big, even standing further back you have a good view of the show. There is a bar. Plenty of bars here and refreshments. I didn't experience any of this since I pre-gamed before, but the lines were supppper long during the change up of a band. Also, Alcohol Enforcement Officers are on it like Donkey Kong wearing Sean John. I witnessed a lady passing out at the show and five officers surrounded her, making a scene. Behave! Overall, I don't mind seeing a show here, but just make sure you read all the rules before arriving. Convenient location and great sound. Everything else was A-OK. read more

Are you kidding me? This place is the worst venue in Seattle. There is so much to complain about that I don't know where to start... First problem: They told everyone "Lindsey Stirling - 7pm", but that was a lie. The doors opened at 7pm (show at 8:30) but nobody knew that, so thousands of people were mobbed together outside the building, yes, DURING COVID!!! Since it was outside the building, very few people were wearing masks. There were way too many people to keep any sort of distance. Why would they do this you may ask, I did... turns out if everyone arrives at 7pm, then we all have to stand around for an hour and a half, more likely to buy their extremely expensive/extremely small cocktails, buy food, buy merchandise, buy, buy, buy, money, money, money. Gross tactics. Not impressed. I could have left my house an hour and a half later & maybe not have contracted covid, we wait to see. Second problem: It was like seeing a concert in a gymnasium. The acoustics were outrageously terrible. Lindsey's violin sounds metallic & harsh. I had to have my hands over my ears for most of it, as did the girl sitting next to us. It sounded MUCH better using my hands as a buffer. Third problem: Again with the gymnasium... we purchased much more expensive (up close) tickets than we normally do, expecting a better view, but this is not how it went. They set up chairs in the area that would regularly be where "general admission" people would stand, so the floor was way flat. I could see about 1/5th of the stage, as I tried to dodge around heads. It wasn't until nearly the end of the show that we got up to use the restrooms and upon coming back we noticed what an amazing performance it was from way farther back, where the real seats start. Oh man, what a waste. I'm having a hard time getting along with a venue that carries on this way. To say the least, we will never pay to go there, ever again. My son and his friends went to the Melanie Martinez concert at Wamu and were escorted out by security for "underage drinking" my son is 12 years old and has never touched a drop of alcohol in his life. The only reason I can think that they kicked him and his friend out is because hint hint, they aren't white. On top of this already very upsetting and traumatic experience, they refuse to issue a refund. They didn't even get to see the show. My son told me he was apparently escorted out of the venue within minutes of being in the building. Still so shocked and upset. Do better Wamu. read more

Came here during my Seattle trip a few months ago to see Gareth Emery. It was a decent first Seattle-concert experience. Line went by fast, security, was chill, and the venue was nice and clean. It is smaller and duller than what I expected, but the overall setup was nice, the sound was good, and overall did the Laserface production justice. Went here for the first time to see my boys, Why Dont We!! (Woot woot!!) Passing thru security was easy! I didnt have a bag so I didnt need to go in that line. I sat in section B, the seats located on the floor and not on the bleachers. The seats were surprisingly comfortable. The staff were nice and accomodating. There were staffs to help you find your seat. Also like that they serve drinks and we were allowed to bring it inside the actual performance seating area. Lots of metered parking lots available around wamu and century link itself. Cant wait for my next concert at wamu! read more

I've been coming to this venue since 2007 and it's my favorite larger venue in the city. Big, spacious, well ventilated, and great sound. I usually come here for EDM shows like Freaknight or Resolution, but I've attended a few other concerts as well such as Staind, Demi Lovato, and most recently Dancing With The Stars. For GA shows - which is most shows here - there is a lot of open space to move, and there isn't a bad place to stand. USC Events is finally doing a better job with their show layouts so you can actually move around, so that's a good improvement. Sometimes the bleachers are left out during GA shows, sometimes they aren't. Check with the venue beforehand if it is a concern. For reserved seating shows, I've sat in the 2nd row (for Demi Lovato like 9 years ago), and also in the back in the bleachers. I was rather impressed with the bleacher seating for Dancing With The Stars last night - we were 3 rows up, center stage, and couldn't have had a better view. I honestly say for once it was better than sitting up in the front rows. The sound system station was in front of us, so it was a little distracting seeing computer monitors glowing out of the corner of your eye, but other than that it was perfect - great sound and setup. My only complaint about the show last night: SO MUCH PERFUME. Haha. Tone it down a bit ladies, we can all smell it just fine with one spray! #allergies There isn't much for food here, pretty basic, and very overpriced. Not many options. I've never bought food from here, and never plan to, due to pricing. Also, usually you are allowed to bring in a sealed or empty water bottle to most events. There are water fountains inside to refill bottles. Bathrooms have two entrances. There is literally no reason to have a line, there are like 50 stalls and people are just too lazy to walk down to the end. Half the time multiple people will shout up "Hey there are stalls open at the end, go!" and nobody moves, so most of the time groups of people just cut in front of them and walk the extra 30 seconds to the end of the row while everyone else just stands and wastes time. Or just go to the second entrance and walk right in, nobody even notices - and I'm not the only one that does it. Pay attention. Always check bag policies on the WAMU Theater website before attending a show here - it various from event to event. Security is usually pretty quick and usually nice. Rules are very tight and very strictly enforced, so be aware. There is a parking garage - usually starts at $20 depending on the show or event (I've seen $80+ for Seahawks games) My only *complaint* is during EDM shows they remove the doors to the bathroom stalls (I totally get why) but it's so dang awkward staring at the person across from you.. haha. I say it every time there's a show here... this is the worst venue in Washington for shows! Great for conferences, Ted talks, etc. but concerts are horrible! The bar is outside of the event space, and you can't take drinks out, which would be fine if you could still see the show during! But you can't. We asked if they sold shots (because again, you can't see the show and the main act was starting soon) and the bartender instantly became rude, carded us again after our IDs were checked to get into the bar space, and wouldn't serve us until we gave him a card to pay... like dude we're 30, we're just trying to be efficient since your catering system sucks for concert goers. There's no screens, so the stage is all you see - better get there early if you want a close up view. There's not enough seating as an option, unless you set up something with the ADA team. The bag requirements are more strict than a Seahawk game at Lumen... I brought a bag that I've taken to 10+ Seahawks games, they told us they were too big. Ended up paying $10 to use a sketchy locker booth across the street. They should stick to conferences only. read more

I visited this venue for the Of Monsters and Men concert in Sept. They operate like a sporting event: overcharging for canned beers from their unremarkable selection, forcing you to purchase lockers for your small/medium sized purses, and herding the mass in like cattle to the slaughter. The space inside is bare and concrete, giving a warehouse feel to the foyer. There was a pop-up stall awkwardly placed smack in the center to churn out basic mixed drinks. This entire area was sectioned off so you had to be carded then toss your drink before entering the actual concert. The worst part of this whole experience was that we were not allowed to take our plastic cups in with us. What kind of a concert does this?! Inside the concert, there was a sectioned off area for drinks off to the corner behind a huge concrete pillar.. but I failed to see the point of this as you could not see anything from there. Great band but horrible venue. Will think twice before booking a concert here in the future. I will avoid this place if I can help it. read more

Want to attend a venue that does not accept vertical ID's for alcohol, does no kind of physical security check, and won't allow you to bring in a wallet the size of the one shown in the photo? Then by all means, the WaMu Theater is your type of venue. They have a clear bag policy. Which, I can to an extent, understand. I rented a locker for $10 and only kept my wallet and my phone. When going through security the security lady told me I could not bring in my wallet ?! I offered for her to look through it, and she said no exceptions. AVOID WAMU THEATER. I've seen many shows at many venues over the years in Seattle. This venue has missed the mark. every. single. time. They host some popular artists and never anticipate how many people will show up and when. Huge crowds form early and just last night (9/29/23) there was a crowd surge in "line" causing "security" barricades to collapse, people falling, and kids shaking the metal detectors, ignoring security etc. After AstroWorld - it wouldn't hurt to belt off lines so there's actually order instead of forcing attendees to join what is essentially a mosh pit just to wait to get into a show. Unsafe. Un-fun. Disorganized. I won't be back, I value my safety and my life too much for a poorly run event venue to continue to jeopardize that. Saw Hozier here, he was amazing, the performance and set was absolutely amazing. The WAMU experience? TERRIBLE. This was my second time going there for a concert, the first time I wasn't prepared and had a terrible, the second time I did so much research (saw it's got horrible reviews) so I could be prepared and enjoy it. Even with being prepped for waiting hours in line, bringing snacks and water, and chairs, the bathroom situation and line organization and the way the staff members communicated with us was terrible. The closest bathroom for folks to use was under construction, porta potties were locked, we all had walk a few blocks to businesses to use their bathrooms. And then going during or before the performance while in the pit was virtually impossible because of how crowded it all is and people taking spots and all that. And after the show they had two out of their three bathroom locations opened despite it being a sold out show packed with people. The lines for both of these bathrooms were extremely long, and when you're holding it in for so long there's only so much longer you can wait. The line organization is the worst. There is none. People got there at 8am for a 8pm concert in order to secure spots, but there was no clear line, no clear way of how they were going to have us file inside. Many people cut to the front making it unfair to those who have been there for hours. They would only communicate to the people at the front, didn't walk down the line or use a megaphone so all of us could hear. No one knew what was going on. When they first opened the gate many people got shoved and pushed and almost knocked over. It was a mess. Not to mention three people fainted during the show. Other reviews talk about other negatives of the theater as well and I recommend looking at those. Overall horrible experience and will not be coming back here and I'm going to tell people to avoid going back there or be prepared for an awful experience. Hozier, Andrew, my friend. Please try another venue to play at. I know you like this one for some reason but I promise Seattle has much better venues around that won't give your fans torturous experiences. read more

They didn't allow re-entry, I get it, but when you spend hundreds of dollars in vip it is frustrating. Then you are forced to buy their over priced food that is all just fried food. The chicken Caesar wrap was just fried chicken strips chopped up into it. The staff seems to somewhat know what they are doing as long as your questions aren't too complicated. Not much to say about a large open space with a stage on one end, I guess the acoustics are decent. I'm not sure why the ratings are so low for this venue. It was my first time at the WaMu theater and I really enjoyed myself. We saw Bryan Adams perform and I must say the sound was amazing. I left a short video clip just so people can hear the sound. Bryan played for 2 hours nonstop and I could not ask for a better concert. There is a large bar area that serves a nice assortment of beverages. The restrooms were also large and could accommodate a lot of bodies. I would attend another concert at this place with no hesitation. read more

This theater is really horrible for a concert. Came here to see Bastille and the sound was crazy bad. It was hammering our ribcages and everyone in our group said it was unbearable. We lasted as long as we could before leaving early. We tried to stand/sit in various locations inside as it's all general admission and the sound would just get worse. $20 for parking. WAMU Theater - Freak Night 2019 - Music Venues Near Me - Seattle, Washington

For bigger concerts, I can't imagine another place that they could be held besides Key Arena, and Tacoma Dome absolutely sucks. For these raving events, this is my preferred spot especially those major ones because nowhere else can cater to that mass amount of people efficiently. There's an on campus parking lot that charges $20 for event parking, but be warned that if you stay until the very end, you might as well be sitting in the car on park with the heat on for a minute while waiting for the chaos to clam down. $20 isn't bad, with a car full, that's only $4 each, beats wasting time circling around and walking in the cold to get to the Venue. I was upset that in 2014 that my event was cancelled by the Wamu Theater due to somebody overdosing on drugs. Now, that is a controversial topic and we all feel sympathy, but when is it professional to punish the other thousands of people who planned their schedule around this event for one person's irresponsible act or unfortunate occurrence. If the president died today, I highly doubt a Justin Bieber concert would be cancelled. Nice work, now you really have more people talking about you, maybe that was the goal. With events that consist of this large amount of people, there are enough bathrooms around so the wait won't be a million years. There's places opened during any events for food and drinks, be prepared for the higher prices for mediocre food/drinks, but that's at any music venue so no surprises there. What a weird and corporate venue. I only came here cause my friend's band played a couple years ago and it was free. First of all, it's cavernous and it's actually hard to find where the music is. Second, someone pulled a fire alarm during their set so the vocals were out half the time. I guess that's not WAMU's fault, but it didn't exactly contribute to the positiveness of the experience. Third, the place is so corporate they wouldn't let the merch girl work her own table. My friend joked that if he came up to grab something the people at the table wouldn't even know who he was. He also thinks they were selling their free posters for $5. Fourth, normally when he's in town I can just get on the list and walk in the door, but this debacle involved envelopes, ticket booths, smoke signals, phone calls, secret passcodes and various assorted individuals. It was a pain. Trying to think of positives... Spacious. Lots of concession stand choices. That's about it. Even the backstage area was cold (literally) and dead (figuratively) and seemingly miles away from all the action. The Raconteurs played here earlier in the year and even though I love them, I declined to go cause WAMU Theater pretty much blows. read more

Ok, I know this review is late (and will be long), but I forgot that I can review places other than restaurants so I just wanted to share my experience at WaMu. I'm from the East coast and the way USC handles EDM events are SO different than home. I went to Resolution and here's what I learned: First -- all bags MUST be clear. I didn't know that until my friend told me the day of the event. I literally went all over Seattle to find a clear fanny pack, hours before the event (found one at F21, luckily). At festivals and venues I've gone to, that was never enforced. I don't know why they enforce clear bags either when they make you take out everything anyway. Second -- here's all the things we AREN'T allowed to bring that are allowed at the venues back home -- no opened lip balm, no liquid makeup, no (un)opened gum/mints, no (un)opened cigarettes, no glow sticks, no masks -- I went all night with chapped lips because they made me throw my lip balm away. I wasn't even aware about their "no tobacco" policy until my boyfriend almost got kicked out for picking up an unlit cigarette from the floor someone else dropped. Third -- there are no doors on the restroom stalls (I think they were bolted open), but I have never experienced that in my life. I understand why, but I felt so embarrassed doing my business in front of who knows how many girls. Luckily I had my pashmina to cover myself. Ok lastly, the staff at WaMu/USC was just overall rude and unhelpful -- from the people checking bags, to the security almost kicking out my boyfriend over a misunderstanding, and to the people confidently misdirecting us to the wrong stages multiple times. I understand strict policies and why they're enforced, but we were trying to be cooperative and nice as possible. Despite all these mishaps, the main stage was amazing and this was one of the biggest non-festival venues I've been to. For that I'll give 2 stars. I hope my next experience at WaMu will be better when I come visit Seattle again. read more

If you ever wondered what a concert in a convention center would be like, this place is for you. HORRIBLE First of all, people are pigs and this theater allows food and beverage in the seating area. We were wading through bear and other sticky liquid just to get out after the show. Second, the majority of the seats (good ones anyway) are on the floor since it is a convention center after all. Which means, I paid $90 for a ticket to sit and enjoy what was actually a great show, but had to stand because I actually wanted to watch it and the people in front felt the need to not sit. Third, the video presentation, which I watched when I didn't feel like standing was at best a high school production. The quality of the video was very poor, shots were a mess and the overall production value was not there. Lesson learned, no matter how bad I want to see a show or act, if they are playing here I will skip it. read more

I went to the Virtual Self show and based on my previous knowledge of concerts I've been to in the past (all in AZ), I brought in my prescription medication per-usual. I was instantly flagged before I could even get in line because my small purse "wasn't within the guidelines". I informed them I needed it to carry my medication in. So, naturally I'm pulled to the side and my bag searched. I personally don't pull out the excess medication from my prescription bottle. That's simply because 1: It's heart medication and I HAVE to take it every four-hours. 2: I've done this before and forgotten to put the rest back in my purse leaving me in a bad situation. 3: There are times I've had to take more. Part of my nervous system doesn't work properly. Simple. I've had to call my cardiologist after-hours to which they quadrupled the dose. I also have permission to take extra if needed as my body doesn't properly regulate my heart rate. Example: it ranges from 60-80 bpm higher when I'm standing without the medication. I had to speak to around four different people trying to explain this and they reluctantly let me in. I got a stern warning and was told that next time, I can't have one more than the dose allows. Within 20-minutes my watch that also has a heart rate tracker was buzzing notifying me my resting heart rate was above 120 bpm and I had to take an extra beta blocker. read more

Paid $160 to see Arctic Monkeys and 15 mins after arriving I get a phone call from Kandie saying they won't let her back in after she stepped out for a smoke. I came To the main entrance where she was and showed them the E tickets on my phone and they said they would get the manager. Eventually They said she was too intoxicated to come back in. Kandie is 27, was not slurring but simply admitted that she had had some drinks. She was totally fine. Please have one or two of your dozens of security guards posted to let people know they can't go outside for a smoke. read more

This place was alright. I'm so glad we ran into a helpful waitress in town who tipped us off on the bag policy though, because I would have been so angry!! I would not risk trying to take in a bag unless it is completely clear. If you go to the website the rest of the rules are even more crazy with forbidden items, like mints and unsealed chapstick. There were several metal detectors outside the venue that people line up at prior to getting in. As far as the actual entrance process goes it went more smoothly than I thought, you just take anything metal off (my earrings, shoes, and jacket were fine though) and walk through the metal detector. Once through there are several people available to scan your tickets before you actually enter the building itself. I'm glad that process went so fast because since it is all general admission, I really wanted to get a good spot close to the stage and was able to do so! There is no slope to the standing area which was a total pain, but I was able to see good regardless due to the spot I managed to find. The security inside seemed somewhat lacking though, the girl in front of me tried twice to throw things on the stage during the show and I didn't see anyone around to even say anything to. No one certainly seemed to notice. When the show was over, like a dozen doors open up to the left of the stage so people can pour out easily and be on their way. During the show the sound was fantastic and there were impressive lighting tricks as well. If you do your research and set your expeditions ahead of time to not be super high, I think you'll be satisfied here. read more

I agree with Nancy S. I just saw (that's a stretch) DWTS "Light up the night" this evening and they should refund everyone their $$. I will never visit this venue again I am 5'10" and seated on the aisle 18 rows back in the middle and I could sometimes see a person from the waist up and more than 50% of the time couldn't see them at all The chairs are one step up from a hard folding chair but the real problem is that the rows go down from the stage instead of an uphill grade. For a concert, absolutely not worth it. This venue was awful. I could not see the performer let alone stage from the main floor.
