Wanderlust Creativefoods is a nice little gem of a restaurant in Fayetteville, WV. I've only been a handful of times because it's always packed. On my recent dining here, I shared the pork belly entree and chicken tikka masala. The pork belly was melt-in-your-mouth delicious with the carrot puree. The dish came with brussels sprouts and rice. It was a very satisfying dish. The chicken tikka masala was good too, but needed more spices. Their menu is small and does not seem to have changed. It would be great if they added specials or changed things up once in a while. They serve beer and wine. read more

If this place was in a big city, this would be a 5 star, high priced, reservations in advance type of place. Instead, this is a 5 star in Fayetteville, West Virginia, well known restaurant that accepted me in my hiking clothes as well as others just like me for some of the best food i've ever eaten! I ordered the appetizer which was a beet hummus with chunks of beets and aoli with baked naan. For my meal I had a medium cooked lamb burger with fresh cut fries. All of this food is made to order fresh, none of it is premade waiting amd hoping for you to order it. I've been here twice and both times were amazing. If you are ever in the area, this place is a must. Sometimes national park anchor towns can be touristy or mediocre, but that is 100 percent not the case here. The food and service here are top notch. Wow!!!! This place was some of the best food I've had in a long time. I had the lamb burger, brussel sprouts, and naan dumplings, pork belly entree, and pickled beets were spectacularly delicious. It was fresh and the menu was unique. You could tell that they put love into every dish. Definitely would consider this food elevated and thoughtful. The atmosphere is inviting and friendly. It is within walking distance of The Historic Morris Harvey House Bed & Breakfast, which is equally as spectacular. This was only my second time in Fayetteville, but if I am already planning a return trip, and every dinner will be eaten at Wunderlust. It was honestly that good. I highly recommend. Trust me. You will not be disappointed with any dish you order. I met some people there that went there back to back nights and said everything they had was perfect. They have a good beer selection too. Stopping by from out of town while visiting New River Gorge National Park and wow, what a great spot! Located in the quaint town of Fayetteville (about ~5 minutes away from the park), Wanderlust is kind of a hole in the wall spot because it's tucked away into a cute little location that has about 12-15 tables for seating. The staff is very pleasant and welcoming. They greeted us from the get-go and were authentically friendly the entire time. They were eager to help us make decisions on food and drinks and were a joy to talk with. Now for the most important part - the food. The food was delicious. I only got a picture of the pork belly entree, but we ordered the shrimp appetizer, tacos, pork belly entree, fries, and a handful of drinks (yeah we went a bit overboard). Everything was delicious. I will say the food took a bit to come out (I think around 20-25 minutes), but it was worth the wait. Everything was on point and the drinks (we had local canned beers) were all tasty as well. A nondescript building on one of the downtown streets, this place gets busy so make sure you arrive when it opens or make reservations. Introduction: We were greeted with such enthusiasm and warmth that I honestly didn't care if the food ended up being mediocre. It was obvious these people absolutely enjoyed what they were doing, and they were happy that we were there. Luckily, the food was way (way) better than mediocre). First page: Fried Brussels w/white balsamic reduction.. I am a brussel sprout girl and these did not disappoint. Salty, crispy, al dente with a mildly sweet sauce. Gone in minutes. A real page turner. Next page: Pork Belly Entree. Moist pork belly with a carrot puree that hands down would've made a wonderful start to a fab curry. So dang good. I actually talked to the chef about what was in that golden sauce. It came with Basmati rice which was a perfect compliment. Only thing... I wasn't told what vegetable it came with, it just said seasonal and it ended up being the brussels sprouts. We found this place three weeks ago when we were at New River Gorge, and noticed that it had lots of great reviews. We saw something online about a Filipino dish, and we were excited to stop in and try it. Unfortunately, they were closed on that visit, even though their hours indicated that they were still open. However, we finally got to visit when we were back in town this weekend, and I'm glad we did! While their menu no longer offered the Filipino food that drew our attention, the eclectic assortment of Indian and generally south-Asian inspired fusion dishes was delightful. I ordered the naan dumplings and the tikka masala, and my wife ordered the pork belly entre. The food was all delicious. I especially enjoyed the naan dumplings, what a creative combo of flavors and textures. The reviews on here did not steer me wrong on this restaurant. We were in town for the park and looked randomly on Yelp for dinner recommendations. It was a Monday night and a lot of the other restaurants in the area were closed. The number of stars this place has received really stood out to me. There were plenty of street parking which made getting here very easy. We were created upon entering and were told to grab a menu and grab a seat while we decided. The employee came over to introduce the food and how to order as well. The menu was small but had a variety of flavors shown by the different dishes. I don't think you could order a wrong item here. The food here was incredible. Best Brussels sprouts we've ever had! The menu is small but the eclectic offerings all sounded so good that it was difficult deciding what to choose. In the end, we decided to split an entree to try a larger variety. My husband started with the Mussels Vin Blanc from the snacks menu. It was a huge portion, easily worthy of main dish status. The mussels were cooked to perfection, and the sauce was a standout - ordered spicy Diablo style. I started with the "small" Beet Salad which had a nice balance of acidity from the vinaigrette to cut the sweet beets and the richness from the goat cheese and pistachios. We then shared the Crispy Brussels "Snack" and Lamb Burger Entree. They were both top notch. The Brussels were crunchy and sweet with a mound of parmigiana piled on top. The lamb burger was tender and juicy. It literally melted in your mouth. And since the staff knew we were sharing, the entree came out already split on two plates: it's the attention to detail that made the experience even better. The staff there were all so friendly and enthusiastic about the food, the atmosphere was infused with positive and and warm energy. This is a restaurant where you order at the counter, but their hospitality was perfection: several staff checked on us throughout our visit, and the chef came out toward the end of our meal. I was a bit disappointed after the glowing reviews here. We got the naan dumplings (simosas?) and tikka masala. My first warning was when they didn't ask what spice level we wanted. Maybe I am spoiled when it comes to Indian cuisine, but that is usually a standard customization. It was not bad, just not the heat level I would have preferred. Stopped in for dinner on the way to Pittsburgh from North Carolina, and I am so glad we did! The food was delicious, unique and interesting and everything was cooked perfectly. We had the Gambas, Lamb Burger and Pork Belly, and it was all amazing. The lamb was cooked perfectly and the pork belly just melted in your mouth. And I'm not a huge fan of cooked carrots, but the carrot purée under the pork belly was delicious and was an amazing compliment to the pork belly. It is not very often that I am blown away by a restaurant.....ESPECIALLY in Fayetteville WV! Wanderlust provided cuisine that you feel with every bite! It's hard to explain it but I actually felt excited each time I brought the fork to my mouth! I started with Mussels Vin Blanc! They were delicately steamed in a velvety white wine and cream sauce mixed with shrimp stock with Prosciutto! I was hesitant to take the suggestion of making them "Diablo" style....but instead of an inferno each bite was heavenly!!! For my entree I ordered the Pork belly. Mind you the presentation on these dishes were superb and definitely photoshoot worthy (see photos), It was the excellent pairing of succulent Berkshire pork belly drizzled with a Pork Demi, Basmati rice, Brussels sprouts and a carrot puree that tied everything together as if they were related. My mouth was sad when I came to the end of these gracious portions! If you are ever passing through you need to stop at this hidden gem!!! What a surprise! I didn't expect food of high quality and creativity verging on exotic; several gluten free options. The atmosphere says hipster coffee shop, but the food says Michelin star. This was one of the best meals I've had in a long time. The fact that it was in Fayetteville, WV was completely unexpected. The service was fast and friendly. The owner/chef (Mike Jensen) came out to chat with us for a while. He sweetly mentioned the boss (his 2-year old). It made it a more personal experience. But, even without this personal touch, the food speaks for itself. There is a parking lot with signs that reserved all spots exclusively for the hardware store and Wanderlust's prior name (New River Curry House) under threat of towing. That caused some confusion and they really should post new signs before it scares people away. No one should miss eating at Wanderlust. Our party of three started off by sharing the beet salad. The salad was a delightful balance of pickled golden beets and carrots with fresh mixed greens, goat cheese and pistachio, tossed with a beet vinaigrette. I had the delicious Turkish spaghetti, which was a clever stack of tzatziki sauce, spaghetti squash, and topped with falafel "meatballs." This dish was not only gluten free, but vegetarian too. One friend had the tasty chicken tikka. She loved the tender chicken pieces in the creamy and flavorful sauce. She doesn't eat rice, so she ordered it without. My foodie friend opted for the special of the evening. Seared duck breasts on tahini yogurt, a bed of ramped barley and asparagus. Served with carrot puree and duck demiglace. She said that the meal was executed perfectly, which is high praise, as she usually has something to say about an improvement. They don't serve creative drinks or desserts, which I think would improve the experience. The drinks are either bottles/cans from the stocked refrigerator or fountain sodas. They make coffee, but we weren't in the mood. They don't offer desserts. read more

After three days in West Virginia, I'd resigned myself to the fact that the incredible views came with the high price of mediocre dining options. Alas, my two friends and I decided to spend our last supper at Wanderlust Creativefood and my expectations were surpassed! From the exterior, this spot appears to be a normal small town cafe. However, upon entering, we were greeted by the friendly and knowledgeable staff who regaled us and other guests with information about local foods and the abundant mycology of the region. I ordered the lamb burger which apparently "started the restaurant" and my two friends both dined on flavorful tiki Marsala. We started off with the Brussels sprouts which were incredibly tasty and a great way to round off the meal. The spot offered a wonderful variety of craft beer and wine. The lamb burger did NOT disappoint! The seasonal pepper jelly was especially delicious and the meat bled in the best and juiciest way. My only qualm was that there was no dessert menu when I was hit with a sweet tooth after consuming dinner. This place is a must when visiting the area! read more

Small spot. Walk in, order at the counter and food will be brought to table of your choice. Immediately greeted with pleasant service at the register; the gal was inviting and informative for our first visit. My wife and I decided to share 3 starters - Crispy Brussels, Mussels (diablo style) and Naan dumplings - plus one entree, the Rack of lamb special. Our food came with free fountain drinks but they also offered other beverages for sale such as canned sparkling waters, beer, wine and ciders. The Brussels were perfectly crisped with shaved Parmesan. The mussels were done well with a nice broth and added spice (Diablo style) in which even the chef came out to check on us and make sure he didn't make it "too hot." The naan dumplings were quite interesting and much more filling than I expected them to be! The main entree was beautifully plated with a well seasoned rack of lamb over eggplant that even my wife (who hates eggplant) enjoyed. The red wine reduction plus serrano preserved lemon and lavender sauce added perfect spice alongside a adironback bright purple (blue) pomme purée - mash and turnips which accompanied the lamb harmoniously. And OMG that peach whole grain mustard was ON POINT! Overall I felt the caliber of the food itself plus the plating and presentation exceeded the tiny dining room setting, but nonetheless worthy - would definitely eat here again! ----- Update: returned here for one more meal for our last night in town. Repeated the crispy Brussels, but this time for the entrees we tried best seller - chicken tikka masala, and the lamb burger (because, lamb!). The tikka masala was done very well, but I have to say the flavor of the lamb burger won us over with the pairing of goat cheese and seasonal jam!!!! My only complaint would be that the fries were a bit too salty for my taste. The Chef personally served us and checked on us repeatedly. We came to the restaurant for a friend's birthday dinner based on the photos on their website. And although we wondered if the sparsely decorated casual restaurant had been a good choice, we were thrilled with the result! Duck breast can be easily messed up by amateur chefs, but it was perfectly cooked, and both the barley risotto and carrot purée it came with were pure heaven. Not only the food was delicious, but the chef came out and asked us "if everything played well together!" I told him that, as a lifelong foodie and sister of a professional chef, it is rare that I don't find something in a meal out that isn't right. A really good meal. Pro tip though, show up early or call ahead just so see how long the wait is if you're dining in. They're very efficient but they're also very busy with limited seating because of COVID restrictions -- at the time of this review. Wanderlust was one of our meals when we bopped into Fayetteville during memorial day weekend while we were staying up the road at Carnifex ferry cabins. We had the Turkish Spaghetti (which seems like it's been rotated out according to their facebook), Chiken Tikka Masala, Naan dumplings and Samosas. We loved everything. My only issue is that the Naan dumplings and the Samosas were very hot too handle at the touch and had to be eaten very slowly. The flavors were amazing on everything. The food is incredible. Honestly, my only nitpick is the intersection of how quick and efficient the place is wiht how piping hot the food is. We didnt feel rushed at all but the food was a bit hard to eat quick enough for our table to be sanitized (COVID precaution) and prepped for the growing list of people waiting. The Samosas were also a bit too big. Here's the thing though, these are all very minor nitpicks. great food and great environment read more

A must go to when in Fayetteville. I had the best salad and the chicken pimentos and both were delicious. I was genuinely blown away. I would absolutely come back here and will recommend it to anyone in the area. My only complaint (and the reason for 4 stars) is how long it took for our food to come out.
