One of the worst handyman experiences I ever had! I would give 0 stars if I could. I needed help with drywall repair of the ceiling of my shower stall. The previous homeowner did not use waterproof paint for the shower stall ceiling. Over time, the drywall accumulated moisture and started to crumble. I reached out to Mr. Wang for help because his reviews on Yelp were decent. He came out to my home to assess the problem. During the assessment, I asked him a technical question about whether the paint on the shower stall ceiling was waterproof. Now this is where the problem started. A normal person would just answer the question with a yes or no response maybe followed by a short explanation. Instead, he quickly grabbed a scotch pad that was sitting in my bathroom and violently scrubbed 3 areas of my bathroom wall to "demonstrate" that the paint was waterproof, which I did not ask of him at all and preferred him not to do that. There are now 3 scuff marks where the glossy paint lost its sheen from him using an abrasive to scrub the paint. The largest is about 10 inches long. I have posted a picture of the damage. I confronted him about his actions the next day, but he refused to repair the damage or give me financial compensation. When you hire a handyman for a job, it would be fair to expect that he fix the problem you hired him for and not cause a more expensive mistake. In order to restore the wall to the condition before the damage, I would have to hire someone to re-prime and repaint at least the wall or the entire bathroom, which would cost be a few hundred to $1000. Also, not to mention the inconvenience of not being able to use the bathroom for a few days for the work to be completed and for the paint to dry. From his Yelp page, it looks like he has been a handyman for at least 10+ years. So I don't know why a handyman with that many years of experience wouldn't know that the paint would be damaged if you scrubbed it with an abrasive pad. He really should have asked my permission first before doing something like this. I feel like this whole fiasco could have been prevented if he had used better judgment. I regret hiring him for the job. However, I did not know at the time that he would cause damage to my property. read more

I just love Mr. Wang so much. I need a door replaced. After getting the measures from Home Depot (I do not want to mess with the correct measures, better getting the professionals to do it), I called Mr. Wang. He came over and we took off the door AND also a metal door (which is not replaced). Then we found the door jam/frame is totally damaged by termite, which explains why the door cannot be closed tightly. After evaluating the situation, I agreed that we replace the frame as well. So we got three 2 by 4 wood bars from Home Depot. Mr. Wang had to open up the dry wall to replace the frame.....so everything was quite messy but things were done in 9 hours, with the new door frame, the new door installed, the metal door installed, the dry wall put back and primed. He hasn't done any work for me but I feel compelled to leave a review on his first visit because his rudeness and unprofessionalism were on another level. * When asked basic questions (years of experience, how many people working onsite), he dismissed them. As someone hiring him, I have a right to know. * He refused to provide a receipt. Mr. Wang is AWESOME! It is soooo hard to find handymen who are efficient, honest and timely. One issue though is that he only speaks Mandarin. I'm fortunate that my father speaks Mandarin so he was able to help me with translating. When we called Mr. Wang to come do some small tasks around my house, he said he would have to come and see it before giving us a quote. He wanted to make sure that the projects assigned were things he was comfortable completing. He came out for a free quote and agreed to do the tasks I had in one day for a reasonable price. It included: mounting a TV, installing curtain rods, changing two light fixtures, adding a shelf in my kitchen, assembling and securing my over the toilet vanity, changing a toilet seat, changing a door lock, and installing a mesh net over my back door to keep mosquitos out. This must be the 3rd time we are hiring Mr. Wang to do some work for our 5-unit condo complex. This time, we asked him to replace the exterior water heater room door for 3 of the condo units. The old doors were badly damaged by water and drywood termites. With the new regulation, each door needs to have 2 vents, one near the top and one near the bottom. The problem with the vent at the bottom, like existing doors, is that when water (from rain or sprinkler system) gets into the door via the part of the net/screen that is inserted into the door or by some other means, the door swells and eventually falls apart. Mr. Wang and I together came up with a way to deal with the issue. We caulked around the nets/screens in the vent openings, covered up the lower vent with a metal vent cover, caulked around the metal vent cover, covered up the bottom part of the door with a galvanized sheet metal bent into a U-shape (see attached picture), and painted the door. We believe that this will adequately prevent water from ruining the doors. I am very pleased to be able to work with Mr. Wang on this and appreciate very much his flexibility, adaptivity, and creativity. I strongly recommend his service. Using Yelp we found Mr. Wang this morning. We had a kitchen faucet that leaked and needed replacement. We bought a new faucet set from Home Depot and asked Mr. Wang to remove the old unit and install the new one. Mr. Wang is very experienced and thorough. Carefully he examined the leak, told us we needed an adapter to connect the pipe in the wall and the new faucet we bought. He offered to go to Home Depot to get the missing part. He removed the old faucet carefully and cleaned up afterwards before installing the new unit. After all was done, he stayed to keep checking to make sure there was no more leak before he finally left. He also tightened a faucet in a bathroom that was loose and previous plumbers could not do.
