Linda was very friendly and extremely helpful. I needed my vintage 1930s spectacles adjusted; they curl at the back of the ears (cable glasses). The problem was that they curled too soon and were very tight behind my ears. Not only did she successfully lengthen the sides, but she also straightened on the sides and aligned the frames to make them symmetrical. My frames no longer poke the back of my ears and make my ears red!! Amazing. Extremely hospitable and quick adjustment service. Careful! A NO refund policy @ Rims & Goggles, even if the frames they sell you make your vision unclear and distorted. Rims & Goggles sold me a wrap-around sports style frame after telling them this style frame is what I need for my sport of choice. I presented them my prescription and was told it would work well in the $790 frame I selected. When I returned to Rims & Goggles to pick up the glasses, I noticed immediately that my vision was unclear and distorted. The employees attitude changed, first blaming my optometrist for dispensing the wrong prescription. So I went to have my eyes re-checked and was told the prescription that I originally presented Rims & Goggles was indeed correct. I returned to Rims & Goggles and was told to chose a different style frame, however, for my sport, wrap-around frames are a must. Penna Omega, the store's owner, stepped in with a surly attitude on an email and said there are no refunds. BTW, I could not find policy this policy posted anywhere, including on the receipt I was presented at time of purchase. Penna said I should pick another frame (not a wrap-around style) after telling me 'there is a well documented risk in placing a prescription like mine into an extreme wrap frame'. Why wasn't this told to me prior to purchasing the frame? The employees at Rims & Goggles went from being very sweet and cordial to incredibly discourteous and disrespectful when I told them I wanted a refund for frames that I was originally told would work well with my prescription. I filed a dispute with Visa, who took my side and refunded me in full. Regarding Penna's response below.... Penna---you may want to have a honest talk with your employees as to what really was actually said (in my case, omitted to make the sale). You were not present at time of purchase or when I returned to pick up the glasses. I never knew nor was told by the Rims & Goggles employees that my prescription would cause unclear and distorted vision...nor what you allege 'difficult to adapt' vision. Reply to owner: I actually really appreciate your covid protocol-Unfortunately I don't think I made myself clear in my review. I am very covid cautious so I felt comfortable in your shop. I loved a color one designer offered. I was wondering if the same color was available in other styles from the designer. It takes a month to find out about that? If that is the case, perhaps a phone call to update me? What info was gathered in a month? I would be interested in knowing. Two stars for their covid protocol as of 12/22. But I am a bit confused about all the comments on spectacular service. I have to agree with the other reviewer who commented that if you are over a certain age you are somewhat brushed under the carpet and not worthy of this wonderful service. I was in search of a new pair of glasses and have had many pairs of Face a Face and LaFonts in the past. I decided I was going to go with Face a Face again so looked for local dealers and made an appointment at Rims and Goggles. I described what I wanted and they brought the frames to me (aforementioned covid protocol). I even brought photos of frames that interested me. Very few frames they brought matched the description of what I wanted. There were a few frames I liked but wanted different colors. There was another color that I LOVED but wanted to know if it came in another shape. They took the info down and said they would contact me. I never heard back from them. So I finally gave up and went to another dealer and got my Face a Face frames and a pair of sunglasses, too. I'm sorry, but if I spend close to $700 on a pair of prescription frames, I want to love them. It is ok if I am a discerning buyer. After all, they are on my face every waking moment! Very sad that they just don't bother to follow up. P.S. I may not be in my 30's but my $$ is exactly the same as someone in your target age group. read more

I worked with the store manager, Lisa Delevati, the "Optical Queen" of Rims And Goggles, Berkeley. I was looking to get lenses replaced in my Oliver Goldsmith pair of frames and was exhausting all the online resources that do such a service, the pricing was in the ballpark of $100 to $300 for the high index thinnest poly carbonate lenses on the market, with a wide variety of services including Coatings and turnaround times ultimately I wanted to find a local optician that wasn't my HMO something along the lines of boutique and personalized and accountable. Lisa work with me on the pricing and the turnaround time was only one week from time of order she was personal in the fitting and the design of the lenses; there's craft and art in cutting and making lenses look good in frames and that's exactly what I got at Rims & Goggles. I highly recommend in person optician that is local and independent as opposed to shopping online with a unknown source unknown quality unknown execution and purely based on cheapest price. In hindsight, I was relieved, and I am happy to have worked with Rims And goggles knowing that I have a local optician that can back their service and product and I have a resource that I can depend on for future issues and eyewear requirements. read more

I checked this place out. I felt like the frames they had were pretty standard and not anything really exceptional. I was hoping to find some really amazing creative designs but I thought they were pretty conventional. Also, she tried to sell me some frames that are out of fashion like two years ago. She told me they were rare and I told her "Yes, because they are out of fashion". I feel like when you are older sometimes people assume you want to look matronly. Then she was trying to match the frame color to my hair which was not flattering or attractive. She also tried to get me to go to the Mill Valley location, which i thought was ridiculous. And two things were great about the Lucy--R&G design team created them, and they were my sun-glass dreams come true---glam, but not overbearing...So great. We didn't know if they were salvageable, but we took them to Rims & Goggles for repair, and they were able to carefully bend my glasses back into shape! They have several decades of experience repairing glasses, so I'm sure I would have had no luck trying to fix them.
