A nice little place in an area with few options. Considering how small it is, I was able to get everything I needed relatively close to where I was. This neighborhood is never going to have a big box anything, so I was very pleased and appreciative that this little place was available. I have been going to this hardware store for two years. However, after today, I will not return to or support this store. I witnessed who I assume to be the manager or simply an employee aggressively disrespecting and refusing to sell products to a young black man. Outside, he explained to me that he was buying products for his art studio. REGARDLESS, there should be no need for explanation. What occurred was clear, especially due to the employee's remarks related to the protests occurring. I will not support an establishment that does not support basic humanity and black lives. read more

Three stars for having most of the things a hardware store should have. The staff know how to make keys and aren't confused when you bring in a key that cannot be duplicated. They have a section in the back that has a sign that says "lumber" but points toward the paint mixer. The "lumber" is up front and consists of a few 2x4s and 4x4s. I was looking for wood to build my bar, but don't think this would cut it. They have power tools and hand tools that are behind glass and locked in, which I think is interesting. I wonder if this was a result of someone walking in to buy a hacksaw, but ended up holding up the cashier instead. Three stars for having more "hardware store stuff" than the True Value on Harvard Ave in Allston in a quarter of the space and in a neighborhood where most of the residents have no use for anything in the store. read more

Warren Hardware is in the small retail line up of the Castle Square development complex. They have managed to cram so much in their small space that I have rarely left without what I am looking for. Small hand saw - check! Picture frame wire - check! Black lacquer paint to touch up a wrought iron fence - check! Ball thingie for a faulty toilet - check! Houseplant fertilizer - check! Sterno for a fondue pot - check!The staff is friendly and helpful (take this with a grain of salt, it is a small hardware store in a not-so-beaten path location) and the hours are accomodating. For small household, auto and garden products, Warren is my go-to spot in the South End. It's great that there is still a REAL hardware store in the city. This place has saved my arse more times than I care to think. If you're in the middle of a week-end house project and you're caught without an essential tool or part for ANYTHING... they have it! You need a weird part for your gas range... they have it. You need a certain philips head screw in brass... they have it. Refrigerator light... right on the shelf. Chrome polish... ditto. This is my go to hardware store for almost everything you need for home repairs. You can't replace the convenience. The service is exceptional. When I couldn't find the correct size toilet supply line, the nice store employee spent 15 min to try and find a coversion attachment and when he couldn't he called the other store in Cambridge and offered to pick it up and bring in back in 1/2 hour! I'm pretty grateful that we still have businesses like this in the South End. read more

This store has less than 5% garden supplies available. I called the store last night to get nature they had Perlite before I walked there. To my surprise after explaining to TWO different employees what Perlite was they said they indeed did have it. My husband goes he next morning to retrieve the item we asked about only to find out it was not Perlite it was little white rocks. The fact they have employees working at this store that cannot answer basic questions about the items they carry or do not is ridiculous. This store has proven time and again that the likelihood of actually finding something you need will prove to be a fruitless adventure and overall time waster. We go back because we want to support mom and pop stores, this store however consistently has failed us. Won't be going back, there is an Ace hardware not to far that carries much more items. read more

There isn't a whole lot to say about this place. It's definitely a local hardware store. I felt like I was in a super small home depot with everything jacked up in price. But this is a really good thing in the city. I'm more than happy to pay for the convenience of not going to home depot so pricing wasn't an issue, and the prices were still reasonable. I wasn't able to find everything that I wanted but I had some specific needs that I don't expect places to have, especially places that are limited in space. If I need anything for a home improvement project for the South End this would be my first stop. read more

It is nice to have a hardware store in the neighborhood so that we don't have to get all the way out to Home Depot every time we need a couple of nails or some other random piece of hardware. For such a small place, they really squeeze a lot in there. Cleaning supplies, heaters, fans, gardening supplies, paints, nails, hooks and screws, plastic bins, tools, just to name a few. The prices are higher than the Depot, but you pay for the convenience. read more

Although somewhat small, this place has a full range of items and a friendly staff. It seems quite a bit cheaper than its Back Bay competitors, but is close enough to the Back Bay to be accessible. I found the staff to be very helpful and the prices to be fair. The place was able to cut a bunch of glass for me, and charged me a fair price. It's nice that they sell real hardware, rather than simpl urban interior furnishings. read more

This is a run of the mill hardware store. They don't do anything special, they obviously do not keep the building up. They are the only location in the south end so they basically don't have to care about the customers or their appearance and they make sure you know it. read more

I've been going to Warren Hardware for over 15 years. It's a small location, so they only carry the basic. However they are incredibly helpful and accommodating. Always had great experiences with them and appreciated they friendly manner. Walking there to grab the basics is so much nicer than dealing with the big box hardware outlets. read more

Unbelievable. I just called them and asked, "Do you stock any shower heads?" After several failed attempts to understand the man's mumbled, groggy sounding response, he said, "Yeah... we have couple kinds." I asked, "Can you tell me which kinds?" He said, "No. You have to come see." I asked, "You can't tell me which kinds you have?" He said, "No. I'm very busy. You have to come see." I said, "OK. I'm also very busy, so I'll shop else... " He cut me off, sounding clearly frustrated, and said, "HOLD ON. I'LL CHECK!" After quite a wait, he returned to the line and asked, "What's your price range?" to which I replied, "I don't have a top end to the range. I want a high quality one." He said, "We only have low quality." At that, we ended our call... and will absolutely not shop there ever again. read more

This is a great little place with interesting people and way over-priced items. That said, people should understand that they are paying for the convenience - one notch above Amazon Prime! While I try to go to home depot when need to do some serious home improvement shopping, I have purchased more than a few items at this place over the years and I have experienced only good customer service here. read more

When I had to replace the harddrive on my Dell XPS they were awesome, helped me unscrew some really nasty little screw shit, without ballsing it up. Today, used a band saw to make my curtain rod the right size. I get all my gardening stuff there. They are just first class. read more

I typically like the store, but today had a bad experience. I go to the local store in order to get help when I need it, and am willing to pay the extra for that help. I brought in two light bulbs, one with the original box, and asked for replacements. They are halogen, with no return policy, so that is why I asked. I get home, open one up to put it in, and one is the wrong bulb. Two employees helped me, and when I went back, the one said that there are no returns, tough luck. I said you helped me pick the bulb, and he said, I didn't help you with that one. I helped with the other one. Maybe he helped you with that one. Well, an argument ensued, but honestly, there is no reason to go to the local store if they don't give decent help and then lie about things. When it is like that, you are just paying more than you should.. Another funny thing, when I asked them again if they had the right one, they said that maybe I should try an electric supply because they did not have that size apparently. What a joke. This place has been here for as long as I can remember, and I've been here since the late 70's BUT has a new owner as of about a year ago. OK, I expect to pay more at a small neighborhood store than a big box store for the convenience of being able to walk over instead of the hasel of driving to South Bay but over 50% more is a little much. Since the new owner took over the prices have skyrocketed and both the service and selection have taken a turn towards POOR. Today, I purchased $90 of parts, clamps and items because something broke and instead of making multiple trips, buy it all and return what I don't need or use. Never an issue at home D or this store in the past. If they had what I was looking for I would have purchased 1 item but had to get a bunch of things to figure how to micky mouse my repair. 25 minutes or less I attempt to return clamps, plumbing clamps and the like and am told they don't take returns of tools, won't take back the "Strap" because it's been opened and they're sure I used the clamps. Now 1) I kept 2 items, a clamp and a r$8 roll of tape that retails at HD for $3.50 . 2) the clamps have the sticker where if I used it, I would have had to remove it and 3, how do I know if the strap would have fixed the issue if I didn't open it? So 0 stars for service, 0 stars for knowledgeable assistants, 0 stars for prices, 0 stars for attitude. read more
