I had to be at my theatre in 3 hours to perform, and I needed to build a prop for it. So I went on Yelp to see if there were any hardware stores that would've been on my way home (between Southie and Inman Square) that I could acquire PVC pipe, duct tape, insulation and other components for. Conveniently enough, there was one a half mile from my office, and they specialized in hardware for theatres. I took off at a sprint from the front door of my office and arrived there (in the Boston Design Center on the "99% of Bostonians have never been here" part of Southie called Drydock Road. Inside the enormous BDC was Backstage Hardware & Theatre Supply. Within five seconds of entering, a matronly woman asked me what I needed and I ran down my list. She directed me to a gentleman who hastily cut PVC pipe for me, and he directed me to the insulation and various other things. Within ten minutes, I was rung up and bid a fond farewell from the staff inside. Now I have about two and a half hours to build my prop. I best get to it.

But once I found Backstage Hardware & Theatre Supply, it's the only hardware store in the FInancial District/South Boston area I will go to. The staff is knowledgeable, friendly, and quite helpful. Prices are reasonable, and with the Silver Line, it's easy to get to. Also, if you need a roll of gaffer's tape, they're about the only place around that stock it - in different sizes and colors too!

I was told that they had to come to measure so fine. They did and someone was supposed to contact me within 2-3 business days. They did not so I reached out and finally contacted Joan Gomes. She spent a great deal of time 'trying to find' the right doors and offered me a $1000 door or for $372 or so I thought a mismatched pair of doors. When I said I was willing to consider the mismatched set all of sudden she is quoting me over $1000 for installation and the doors. When I ask for my $40 back because they don't have what I want I am told my fee is non-refundable. Well, if you don't have the product I told you in the first place that I wanted then I should get my money back! She was deceitful writing in her email to me that she was closing the case because of the cost. She didn't have the doors to fit my closet. Update: I am amending my review because after posting, I was contacted and Home Depot researched my situation and refunded the $40 fee. I appreciate very much their doing the right thing.
