This is my favorite paint and hardware store. They've been around forever and you can't beat the personalized service you receive, along with the knowledgeable staff that will answer any questions or concerns you might have. This place is definitely a mom and pop style business. It's different from Lowe's and Home Depot. It's not a big place but they do have many things for anyone looking to repair, replace, buy new or fix up....I saw many workers coming and going while I was there. Workmen also placed paint orders over the phone and they had it ready for them when they arrived. I came in for trim paint and puddy to patch some door holes and give it a fresh updating. Erica in the paint department was extremely helpful along with Joanne. Because I wasn't exactly sure of the trim color I should use, Erica gave me some paint samples along with a color wheel I could borrow and take home so I could choose the right color for my trim. That would never happen at Lowe 's or Home Depot.. color wheels are expensive. Warrenvillle Hardware only uses good paint like Benjamin Moore. They have a nice selection of wallpaper and blinds too. I can see why this business is so popular with the locals. It's been around since I was a kid, before all the farms were turned into mega homes and businesses. There is something about walking in here and immediately getting the help and attention I needed. Thank goodness for local hardware stores. I usually have my keys made here but recently tried Home Depot because Warrenville Hardware wasn't open. Of course, the keys didn't work so I had to return them and have Warrenville Hardware make them. The ones they made work perfectly. read more

Okay, I rarely go here. I find myself usually going to the big box store to get even the simple things because somewhere back in my mind I am thinking, "Warrenville is not going to have that." Yet, every time I do go here I seem to not only find what I am looking for but someone is there to help as well. You would think I would learn from this experience but it still is taking time so forgive me for being slow. I think someone mentioned on Foursquare about all of the hanging/mounting stuff they have and, yes, if you need to get something to hang, stick, or cling to something else this place does indeed have a lot of options! read more

I didn't know whether to give them 3 or 4 stars. I was leaning towards 3 because its a small store and they close early, but the customer service is always outstanding, so I decided to go with 4. Its located on the west bound side of Mountain Boulevard in Warren, just before you hit the big intersection with Mt Bethel. They are perhaps 1/15 the size of Home Depot, but they are local, go out of their way to help you, and the prices are not that much higher than Home Depot. This was one of the places I hit up when I was looking around for some blinds for my windows a few years back. It reminded me of an ACE hardware store, except it was more homey. The people are super nice like they were a long time friend or something. AWFUL The three women who " work" behind the counter are the rudest most unhelpful employees of a business I have ever encountered. Walked directly up to one of them and said " hello, excuse me" she didn't even look at me, but Walked away to help the other who couldn't figure out how to work the register. Not so much as a " I'll be right with you,"or even an acknowledgement of my presence. I continued to stand there for another four or five minutes being completely ignored before I walked out and took my business to Home Depot where the employees are not only helpful but know how to interact with the public. Stopped in here today for the first time looking for some gardening supplies. Everything here costs about double what you'd pay at Home Depot or Lowe's. As for the customer service, despite half a dozen employees standing around on a Friday afternoon with hardly any other customers in the store, most of them don't offer any help or know where anything is when you ask. We shopped there for everything for a while, but when they sold me what I was told were gas cans during Sandy (turns out they were made only for a small amount of gas for leaf blowers or something of the sort; not sure of the specifics but I couldn't use them for gas), they would not take them back and the associate we dealt with was quite rude. When I had an opportunity to do a little more remodeling at my mother's house, I went straight to Warrenville Hardware. Based on the great results I got with the contractors referred by Bill and the excellent design guidance from Patti the last time around, I felt very confident that this time would be great as well. It was. Got a great contractor who completely rebuilt mom's porch and installed some badly needed doors at a good price. And of course I went to Patti for design advice. She picked some great colors and blinds that really made everything look better than I could have expected. Mom is pretty happy too, says it doesn't look like her house at all. Having the right people with the right talents produces great results and I have found that at Warrenville Hardware. They have a completely new paint department and a designer that knows how to make it all come together. They have a very friendly, knowledgeable, staff who are always offering to help. Warrenville Hardware is everything a hardware store should be. Sure they are a little more expensive than one of the major box hardware stores, but you don't feel like you are shopping in an airplane hanger when you go in. They have a courteous and helpful staff and there is nothing that you need that you can't find. read more

The absolute best hardware store around. I have another hardware store in my town, 2 miles away/5 minute drive. But I would rather go 10+ miles/25 minutes to Warrenville Hardware every time. They have a great selection of the usual hardware stuff, and their Benjamin Moore prices are comparable to everyone else I tried. But what really sets them apart is their service and helpfulness. The latest example is my most recent visit. I was looking to replace a washer on my outdoor faucet. I brought in the whole assembly just in case. I showed the guy the washer I needed and he pointed out that the screw holding it was broken off. I would not have noticed this till I drove home and tried to put everything back together. Anyway, he spent about 5-10 minutes in the back of the shop with a drill, vise grips, etc. removing the broken, rusted screw. Any other hardware store you know would do this for a customer without asking? This little touch of customer service made my repair experience a whole lot easier. They are RUDE. I came in looking for paint colors and asked if someone could assist with picking paint colors. They told me that they could not help me or work with me due to the fact that I would not be purchasing paint at their store. when I complained to the manager, the manager stated why would anyone help you if you're not purchasing paint here. This is a great local hardware store. The employees are polite, helpful and know what they're doing. I needed some Benjamin Moore paint to match a set of cabinets and John in the paint department adjusted two formulas to match it exactly. I tried to have this done twice before and no one could do it properly. The color was too dark or too light. John put the time and effort in to make sure it was perfect and never made me feel as if he was doing me a favor. They do not "talk down" or speak to women like they don't know what they're doing. (They will carry things to your car for you, however, which I think is very nice). I think this hardware store is a gem and we are lucky as a community to have it in our backyard. They really appreciate your business. Some things may be a bit more expensive than Home Depot, but when you figure the gas, time and most importantly, the lack of assistance and experience, I'd rather shop here any day. Brick and mortar stores are becoming a rarity these days. This is our opportunity as a community to support these businesses and Warrenville Paint and Hardware makes that easy to do! read more

NEVER GO HERE IF YOU DON'T WANT TO BE RIPPED OFF. I recently purchased a Baldwin cylinder (deadbolt) from here for approx $115. The man went in the back and after about 20 minutes of me waiting brought out a box with the cylinder in it that was a diff color. The box looked a little beat up but he said that I could try it and see if it looked ok and if not could return it (no one seems to carry baldwin stuff so I was desperate after having looked for this for 3 months now). I went home and checked and the cylinder color looked really stupid against my door (which has bronze hardware). I went back to the store two weeks later (30 days to return) and when I gave the cylinder and box and receipt to the woman she looked really confused. She said we had this in the store? usually this is special order. I said yes, the man got it out of the back and sold it to me. I said it was an older man with gray hair. She said I"ll go ask him and took my stuff in the back. THIRTY MINUTES later he comes out of the back with an attitude and says "I can't take this back. It's missing parts". I said what? That's the way you sold it to me! After arguing with him for 30 minutes I finally gave up and left feeling berated and madder than I have ever felt in my life. While this was going on he basically accused me of taking the stuff apart and losing parts (which I did not, nor would I even know how to do). Meanwhile, for whatever reason, every employee in the store was standing behind the counter just watching and listening. It was so embarassing and I have never been treated so badly by anyone in my life. The man was really agressive with me and I feel that it is because I am a young woman. After all that they refused to give me my money back, even though I was told when I purchased it that I could return it within 30 days if there were any problems and even though THEY SOLD IT TO ME THE WAY IT WAS WHEN I WENT TO RETURN IT! I will NEVER shop here again. This was my first experience with this place and my LAST. I WILL TELL EVERYONE I KNOW TO NEVER SHOP AT THIS STORE. THEY OBVIOUSLY DO NOT BELIEVE IN CUSTOMER SERVICE OR EVEN IN BEING DECENT HUMAN BEINGS. I will be filing a dispute with my credit card company to get my money back.
