For this week's ethnic cuisine review, I chose Ono Poke at The Summit, and it's honestly one of my favorite quick food spots. Every time I go, the food tastes super fresh, which is something I really pay attention to. Nothing feels heavy or overly processed; it's just clean, simple, and really good. I usually build my own bowl with brown rice, cucumber, edamame, crab, avocado, and either salmon or shrimp depending on what I'm feeling. I always get the samurai sauce on the side so I can control how much I add. The combination is so good, and everything tastes fresh and flavorful together. The staff is always quick and efficient, which makes it a great option when you're in a rush but still want something healthy. The restaurant itself is also very clean and has a nice, simple atmosphere. Overall, I'd give Ono Poke 5 stars. It's one of my go-to spots when I want something fresh, filling, and actually makes me feel good after eating. read more

Some friends and I were looking for a lunch spot, and one of them suggested Ono Poke. We went on the Monday after Christmas. When we arrived their tables were full, and it was too cold to eat outside. Luckily, we only had to wait a few minutes before a table opened. The sun was shining right on this table, and in our eyes, so we decided to move. They may want to think about a window shade. Luckily, while we were waiting in line to order, another table opened up. Let me just say, I loved the bowl that I created, and the fact that they have some many toppings to choose from. At the recommendation of my friend, I chose the regular bowl. It was the perfect size and had no left overs. My base was brown rice. It was perfect adding in the warm comfort that I was looking for. My protein was shrimp and the toppings I chose were guacamole, ginger, jalapenos, pineapple, sweet onions, scallions, and what they call crunch. To top it off, I went for the soy sauce. I normally go to the Homewood location when in Birmingham, but I was near the Summit. This location is just as good at the original! Their fries are hot, crispy, and have just the right amount seasoning. My crunch bowl was piled high with toppings and fresh salmon. The staff are always kind and quick, and there is plenty of room to find a seat. Truthfully, I liked this location a little better because it also has outdoor seating. Love this place! read more

Of the locations in Birmingham, the summit location is by far the best. I always get a kids bowl, but have heard incredible things about every other menu option. Quickest service ever. Can get loud around lunchtime but is a nice environment including lovely outdoor seating!! Such a cheerful staff too, the best. read more

This place was amazing! I love how there are a few classic bowls, but you can also make your own bowl. I got a bowl with white rice, aki tuna, extra avocado, and crab salad. It was so good, I wish it was everlasting! The prices are reasonable, and the person taking our order was sweet and made small talk. The vibe of the place was cozy but kind of tropical I guess? There was a wall of fake plants and a neon sign that added a signature piece. I highly recommend this place! I will most definitely be visiting here again. read more

Today I had two work people with me that had never been to Ono Poke bc they were from out of town. They both had their minds blown and loved the food they got for lunch. I still love it and my order was delicious again and the servers were all still great today and I see the ones that are constantly cleaning up every single thing in and outside of their restaurant. We ate here for a date night and it was so good! We got half spicy tuna, half salmon and pretty much all the toppings except the Cheetos and seaweed. The guy that took our order was super helpful and let us try all the sauces. Ponzu and spicy mayo were my favorite since all the others were pretty sweet. We sat outside- which was almost like being in Hawaii, except not even close. But the service was great, and food was excellent, and the weather was nice. We'll definitely go back! read more

The food itself was great, and the employees were friendly. I had the lava bowl, and I really enjoyed it, though I have to remember to get it without the jalapenos next time. Those add just a tad bit too much spice for me, but the rest is good. I had brown rice base, with the tuna and it was, overall, a very good meal and I was very happy with it and would definitely order it again. My main issue here was the bathroom - I had to take my toddler in to use the bathroom, and it was not a fun experience. No toilet paper. No paper towels. I had to text my wife to bring something to the door for us to use. Very frustrating, especially when trying to keep a toddler from touching everything in the room. read more

I've been wanting to try this location for a while now, ever since I saw the beautiful neon pink Mahalo sign. This place is super cute and shares a hallway with Teaspoon Cafe. I saw a lot of customers with their boba teas sitting and chilling in here. I think it's a good way to eat some Poke and enjoy some boba! I got a build your own bowl. I chose a base of half spring mix and half brown rice. I chose ahi tuna as my protein. Then I chose toppings of rice seasoning, cucumbers, edamame, crunch, scallions, crab salad, and hot cheetos. I chose two sauces on the side, but now I can't remember which two I chose lol! The bowl I created was pretty good, I do think I wish it was a bit saltier, which soy sauce seems like the best fix for that problem. We got here about 8:10pm which they close at 9:00pm. So by the time we were done eating and just chit chatting, one of the workers came to our table and told us they were closing in a few minutes. We cleaned up our tables and went outside, but found a lot of other diners were outside still talking and hanging out so we sat at a table outside and did the same. I wish the guy would have offered us to do that rather than ask us to pack up and just leave. So I give this experience one star short of five stars. read more

As someone who eats a LOT of poke on vacations to Hawaii, I'm here to say don't listen to the pretentious reviews that claim it's "good by Alabama standards". It's good, end of story. I was on a mission while in Hawaii to find a better poke bowl than this one, and to my surprise I honestly didn't find one I thought was better. Though the ahi isn't "bought from the fish market that morning" fresh, it is still amazing quality and some of the best poke I've had. I would highly, highly recommend! If you're not sure what to get and you like raw fish, go for the regular ahi, (you can get double for just a little bit more $) cucumber, seaweed salad, onion, spicy aioli, tobiko, and crunch. This place absolutely destroys the standard that The Summit strives to set.. but the catch is that it's nearly impossible to see.. Initial thoughts: Food is alright, I've had better at different places, but it does it's job ..I guess....... Salmon tastes cheap for the price I pay, but with it being completely covered in sauce, it isn't as noticeable. Tuna is the opposite, super unseasoned and sauce will not do the job, so I do not recommend the tuna. All toppings feel fresh, besides the seaweed salad (why does it look like it was made with food dye? Why is it freezing cold?) Store is mainly teenagers, with what I believe are adults in the back, but it was fairly quick. .. Why is it when I sit down to eat, the tables are covered in sauces? Why are the seats covered with rice? Why do my arms get sticky after a visit? Why do I see utensils/sauce packets that were dropped on the ground be picked back up and handed back out to clueless customers? Save yourself a trip to the hospital due to a floor virus, it isn't worth a few bucks worth of raw fish. I'd rather be eating off of the floor at Cheesecake Factory. read more

The owner was incredibly rude to me, he complimented my outfit as soon as I walked in which I found inappropriate, especially in front of my husband. The restaurant is seemingly ran by kids who do not know what they're doing, and only want to go home, which I understand in a fast food environment, but it almost looks like they're not being paid enough! I came during a non-rush hour too. The atmosphere is nice, although I believe it is the standard set when your store is in the summit, however if you observe the wall leaf panels, they're heavily peeling off the top, and could easily hit someone in the head once they're completely loose. The food preparation is awful, as no staff was wearing gloves, besides the cook which was wearing it on only one hand. I stated that I was allergic to avocados, however avocados were still in my bowl. They took the bowl back however when it was brought out again, there were still traces of avocado left, leaving me to believe that they have zero regards to allergies and treat it like a joke. The fries I ordered along with it were incredibly dry and hard to eat, leaving me to believe that their "fried upon order" claims are false. The fish in my bowl left a bitter aftertaste and I was unable to finish the bowl. The only bright part was that the seaweed salad I asked to be included tasted good, however you can get the same quality at any sushi restaurant. read more
