I LOVE my wedding photos! Photography was probably the second most important thing to me on my wedding day (after my dress!). I scoured the internet for photographers, and Travis was the winner hands down. His work isn't a bunch of stiff, posed wedding photos. His work tells the story of your big day. I look at my photos and I can see the personalities of my friends and family come to life. Not only that, but he has a knack for being in the right place at the right time. I have so many amazing photos from my wedding day, I could wallpaper an entire room with them. I'm still struggling with which ones to actually display. I fell in love with Travis's journalistic style after seeing a friend's wedding photos and I while I researched other photographers, I could not stop thinking about his work! And after meeting him, I knew he was the perfect fit for our photography wants and needs. Our engagement session was fun and not forced - Travis did an excellent job capturing genuine moments and getting us comfortable having our photo taken and working with him. We absolutely loved how the photos turned out! And just when I thought I couldn't be more impressed, our wedding photos turned out even more beautiful than we ever imagined! I can not emphasize enough how organized Travis and Justin were the day of the wedding (and the days leading up). Even while they were in the hotel rooms while everyone was getting ready, they were discreet and helpful when needed (they came prepared with scissors and boutonniere fastening skills!). They kept things moving at a great pace while keeping the mood light and fun when we were taking our first look and bridal party photos as well. Oh, and the dance floor pics - they are priceless! As a guest of a wedding I have not seen the pictures but I found this photographer/owner to be one of the most unprofessional, rude and not caring business people I've ever dealt with. He argued with guests, almost sat on peoples laps to get a good shot and did not do anything to make sure that people in posed photos look the best they could. This made for a very uncomfortable evening as a guest and would not recommend this photographer to anybody. As I said I have not seen the pictures and I am sure they are very nice but at what cost to the gusts? read more

We had a great experience working with Travis (Wasabi Photography) and are extremely happy with the photos both from our engagement shoot and our wedding. He has a unique eye for lighting, and his ability to capture stunning images of people and their environment is impressive. We were also amazed by his ability to efficiently handle large group photos (often including 20-30 people). Overall we are thrilled with the quality of our photos and had a very positive experience working with Travis. Our only major complaint is that at our reception, only guests who were dancing were photographed. Since we had a large outdoor balcony where many (especially older) guests went to chat, this meant that over half of our guests were not in any candid reception photographs. Additionally, we had a large fire pit and s'more making station on the patio, and there was only one photo from that (when then bride was roasting a marshmallow) - again, it's a really nice photo, we just wish there were more of the other guests who were out there. We enjoyed sharing the reception photos with our friends and family (there were some great images of those who danced), and wish we had photos to share with everyone. Aside from that issue, we have to note that Travis really went above and beyond in many ways. We were able to do our engagement photos in Chicago (where we lived at the time) while our wedding was in Michigan, and Travis traveled at no extra cost. He arrived early and came to our rehearsal to scope out the venue in advance to make sure he was prepared for the day of (again, at no extra cost). He even navigated a last-minute curveball when a family member decided to setup video recording of our ceremony, discussing with him in advance where to setup so that he would not be in the background of any photos. As noted above, he and Justin (second photographer) handled the group photos with impressive efficiency. Based on our experiences, we would strongly recommend Wasabi Photography! read more

Some of our favorite moments from the day were during our photo sessions, whether standing on top of the Wabash Street bridge, the madness of family photos, or all the private moments when my husband and I stole away with just Travis and Justin. To say Travis is a wedding photographer wouldn't do justice to all that he offers. Not only did he take incredible photos we are still smiling wildly about, but he also supported us in a highly professional manner on our wedding day. As you know it can be a stressful time, but his cool and calm demeanor put everyone at ease. He knows how to grab the perfect candid shots you'll remember the rest of your life, and at the same time he can line up your huge family and make sure everyone looks good for the group shots. When searching for our wedding photographer, we were looking for someone who would be able to capture the candid moments and tell the "story" of our wedding. We received a couple recommendations from friends for photographers in the Chicago and Milwaukee area and came across a list of the best wedding photojournalists in Chicago, where we found Travis. We loved the photos we saw on his website, especially the candids, but were sold when we spoke to him on the phone about shooting our wedding. The conversation ended up lasting an hour - he was extremely patient in answering all our questions and is very detail oriented, which went very well with my planning style and was extremely helpful to us since we were planning from Milwaukee and weren't always able to be in Chicago or meet in person. He also offered to set up a photo booth for us which was a perk because we had planned to get one anyway so having Travis take care of it meant one less vendor for us to deal with. Travis spent several hours with us getting to know us and shooting our engagement photos, which was great since most engagement shoots only allow for an hour or two of shooting. Travis is extremely generous with his time and doing the engagement shoot really put us at ease and helped us feel comfortable with him before the wedding. On our wedding day, Travis was calm and composed, offering help while the girls got ready- he had everything, even a sewing kit and scissors! His presence was definitely calming and did not add to the stress level at all. He stayed until quite late in the night to capture pictures of our guests dancing and overall was extremely helpful and personable the entire day. When my wife and I were looking for wedding photographers, we didn't really know what to expect and what to look for. After meeting with a few other photographers, we saw a range of styles but were not really blown away. We finally scheduled a meeting with Travis, who we were not initially planning on meeting because he was a bit out of our budget. However, after sitting down with him, listening to his approach and work history with photography, and seeing his work, it became super clear to us that you get what you pay for. Travis is a true professional photographer - he started photography as a news photographer, which is reflected in his photojournalistic style and ability to capture the perfect moments throughout our engagement session and wedding. He has an eye for creativity and is incredibly skilled in using lighting, reflections and silhouettes to frame stunning, colorful shots. It was also entertaining to listen to him banter and nerd out with his second shooter, Justin (who was also amazing and fun to work with). We were impressed not only by their ability to handle our hectic wedding schedule, but also by the care and thought they put into picking out wedding shoot locations around the city (for instance, they visited our hotel and venue the day before the wedding and did a thorough walkthrough to pick out the best spots). They managed to find beautiful locations where we got some amazing photos, despite the sleet/rain and 30+ mph winds. We have two minor points that we could have resolved if communicated earlier: 1) We wish that there were more photos of guests during the reception who were not dancing and more portraits of the two of us with our wedding party. 2) Some of angles (especially low-angles pointing up), while creative and unique, were not the most flattering (they're great for capturing the moment and fun to look at, but we won't be framing them). Travis and Justin were phenomenal - they scoped out our ceremony and reception locations in Iowa (reception was at the Field of Dreams movie site), as well as a specific requested location (Fenelon Place 4th Street Elevator in Dubuque) and came up with amazing shots. These guys were incredibly professional, which was exactly what I was looking for after experiencing some friends' photographers who were more interested in the party. These guys will listen and do exactly what you want for your wedding. Travis will spend 12 hours with you (more with us!). Travis did a phenomenal job photographing our wedding- I use that word on purpose, because his work really is photographs, not pictures. He artfully composed every still shot he took- there was one he took in the middle of a street in downtown Chicago that I thought would look ok, and he used his artistic eye to take a beautiful picture. Wasabi was the best choice we could have made for our wedding photographer! Travis and Justin were so easy to work with. Leading up to the wedding Travis was really good about checking in and making sure we were getting our day-of itinerary together, but also really good about stepping back and giving us time to finalize it, even as we started to cut it pretty close with less than a week to go. As my bridesmaids and I were getting ready the morning of the wedding, Travis was in the hotel suite with us, but was inconspicuous and completely respectful and professional. Everyone was totally comfortable with him there. He even brought scissors and fabric tape, much appreciated! Most importantly, Travis and Justin take beautiful photos and work well together. Travis exceeded all my expectations in a wedding photographer! We are so happy with the outcome of the photos. Travis delivered all that he said he would by capturing the story of our day. Travis' assistant Justin is also a very talented photographer, and watching the two of them work together was very impressive. They made us feel assured and at ease in situations to which we were unaccustomed. Their expertise shows in our photos because it was the first time my husband and I had ever taken photos like that together, yet it looks like we had been modeling for years if you ask me! We have all the "wedding day photo must haves" with formal portraits of our family members, beautiful photos of the tables all set with the flowers on them, photos of my dress, our cake, our "first look", and many unique, candid photos that will keep our special day alive in our hearts and minds forever. We were grateful that Travis and Justin attended the rehearsal at the church the night before, and also stopped by our reception venue before the event was held, in order to familiarize themselves for the big day by meeting our families and scoping out the scene.
