The seaweed salad, and kani salad was refreshing and tasty as usual. The edamame normally a good addition, was a bit overcooked. The spring rolls, gyoza, rock shrimp, and shumai were on point. Lastly, I had the salmon sushi (by the piece) the salmon avocado roll, shrimp tempura roll, spicy salmon roll, and lastly the Putnam speciality roll. All delish! The salmon in the Philly roll was minced instead of the typical whole pieces that I am used to. They seemed to have been put together very quick so the ingredients weren't evenly distributed. Lunch is now $18, dinner is $28 on weekdays and $30 on weekends and holidays. Still an excellent value if you like sushi and come hungry. They now have some nice earthenware serving pieces to replace the post-pandemic plastic. The individual pieces of nigiri have gotten slightly smaller, which means you just order more of them. And the elaborate rolls have downsized a bit: the Spider Roll, which used to have soft shell crab in every bite, now has one leg sticking out the end. I'm still a fan, because the fish and presentation are excellent for the price you're paying. My strategy is to start with 2 seaweed salads and a bowl of miso soup, followed by a whole lot of mackerel and a yellowtail hand roll. Only then do I venture to the back side of the menu for the gadget rolls, which have too much stuff and too much gooey sticky sauce for my taste. If I'm still hungry I'll return for more mackerel and maybe an additional hand roll. I've tried the fried calamari and some of the other fried items and am not tempted; portions are small and taste like they came out of the freezer. The service speed seemed inconsistent, one minute we had 3 different people asking what we needed and delivering plates and then we waited about 20 minutes for them to pick up our next order (it was around 7pm on a Saturday night, so it's to be expected for service to be a bit slower) Overall great place, good sushi. We waited and waited for over an hour and never got a call. We returned, asking about the wait. They said they called us twice, but we had never gotten a call. When we asked for the next available table, they said another 45 mins. The hostess and waiter were not sympathetic and were very dismissive as we were super frustrated and hungry. I came here with a large group of people, everyone did a mix of ordering their own things and sharing. I started at the bar, they have quite the limited selection, but I settled for a couple glasses of wine. I originally tried the IPA they had on tap, but it tasted pretty vile. I have never met an IPA I did not like, so I believe it was something like dirty lines, or old beer. The bartender was fine about it and replaced my drinks. We came on a beautiful Saturday Afternoon. The pricing was $24.99 for AYCE on the menu. We were seated on the patio, which is not what I would choose for eating sushi in the middle of summer, but the patio was beautiful. It was very large and comfortable, and shady which is a huge plus. Service was decent, and they were well trained on the menu. The menu is vast and you used dry erase markers to select what you want. Everything was very delicious. The miso soup was really really good. Definitely get some. Kani salad was meh, as well as the crab rangoons. We had a lot of rolls, some better than others, but all of decent quality. A stand out to me was the Salmon Sashimi, it was divine and fresh and delicious. My regret is ordering too many rolls and not enough sashimi. I have only been to one other AYCE sushi place, and Wasabi beats them by miles. It's been just over a month since we've dined at Wasabi and I've read both positive and negative comments about the place since then. This would lead me to believe that there is a certain inconsistency that customers are likely to encounter. Maybe it's based upon the day of the week or their level of business. You might want to keep that in mind as you read my generally positive comments. We arrived a little after 6 pm on a Saturday without a reservation. We were told it would be about 30 or 40 minutes before a table would be available. We spied two seats at the bar and inquired if we would be able to sit and order food there. With the hostess's affirmative response, we proceeded to the bar. We were promptly greeted by the bartender and provided with menus. Upon responding "no" to the bartender's question if we had eaten there before, he explained the menu and emphasized the importance of not ordering more than we could eat. Otherwise, their one price for all you can eat dinner (AYCE $23.99 Fri-Sun, $21.99 Mon - Thur) would be increased by the à la cart cost of each item not eaten. Keeping that in mind, we ordered a couple of draft beers (a Kirin and a Sunrise IPA - $5 ea.) and miso soup to start. The bartender seemed super busy as he not only was serving the half-dozen or so other customers also dining at the bar, but also filling the drink orders for all the other wait staff serving customers at the tables. It seemed like only a matter of minutes before he first apologized that there would be a delay in the arrival of our miso. Yet in fact, it was probably only about 5 minutes after we submitted our order that our sushi began to be served. The miso arrived about 10 minutes into the sushi deliveries with more apologies. There were three sushi chefs working to fill all the customer's orders. We were very impressed at how quickly the sushi began arriving. First the BBQ Squid, it was not overcooked and accompanied by several broccoli florets, then came our 4 special rolls: Sweet Heart Roll, Peanut Avocado Roll, Love Roll, and Crazy Tuna Roll. All the rolls were good, but the sauce on the Love Roll and Crazy Tuna Roll was the same and sweeter than we would have liked. Next came our appetizers of Snapper Jalapeños and Sear Pepper Tuna. The fish in both dishes was fresh and the jalapeño slices did not overpower either the fish or the rice wine sauce with the snapper. Finally, we made room on the bar for our Eel, Yellowtail, and White Tuna nigiri, and Striped Bass sashimi. While all were good, the sashimi seemed to be sliced excessively thin. Our service was friendly and efficient, and the value for the quality of what we had was very good. Our arrival time was excellent as there were about 20 people standing at the hostess desk waiting for tables as we left a little over an hour later. read more
