3.5 ish...All the food was fine. The "fried" gyoza and dumplings were actually fried in a fryer it seems...not pan or wok fried, so a little sad. The sushi entrees were the star of the show as were the egg rolls. Staff very friendly and helpful. If you want to dine in the inside was warm and inviting.

Was on my annual leafer peeper excursion 2024. Drove thru this pretty town and decided to stop here fr a late lunch. Good food but greasy.Chicken was cut just the way I like. Flavourful. Best of all not sweet . Good service

Nigiri: hotate, hamachi. Maki: eel cucumber. Nigiri: ikura, unagi. Maki: spicy salmon. 2019 08 23. S13.

I stopped in for a weekday late lunch, sushi menu only, and I was sorely disappointed, much more so than the dozen of other patrons happily enjoying themselves. I always try to sit at the sushi bar, just to talk with the chef(s), and admire their skills. The host initially offered me any seat, so I headed straight for the sushi bar, but unfortunately, THERE IS NO SEATING AT THE SUSHI BAR. It is not available because of the clutter of take-away containers, half-full Starbuck's cups and empty employee shift meal bowls. But more so, because of the SLEEPING EMPLOYEE at the end of the bar (photo). In truth, she was only sleeping for the first twenty minutes I was in the restaurant. Then she went back to work. Not necessarily a promising start. So I sat at the actual bar, close enough to observe the chef. I glanced through the menu, another multi-colored production, showcasing sushi photos probably downloaded from the internet. With a pretty limited amount of nigiri, I was surprised the did not serve the extremely-easy-to-produce tamago or inari. It was just as well, as my server was not familiar with the sushi menu, and I had to rudely shout over to the sushi chef for him to help the server with the order. And all I ordered was a handful of nigiri and a couple of maki. After a forgettable soup, the server brought over my main. I watched the chef confidently prepare my main - but during this time, he did not say a word to the sleeping employee in front of him. The plating of the main was simple enough without any decoration. The hamachi and unagi were not bad,https://www.yelp.com/user_details?userid=8jxuX8j5HVNqNg7qvcC1lg but the rice itself was very bland. And the remainder of my plate really needed help. The spicy salmon maki, although it was spicy, had so much "crunch" flavorings that they visibly composed half of each piece (photo). The other half was scooped from pre-made mix in plastic tub in cooler. When I picked up the first piece of hotate, water dripped out of the bright-white scallop into a small pool on my plate. Frozen and chemicals, always a good mix. And when I sampled a few of the salmon eggs of the ikura gunkanmaki, they did not taste fresh at all, and more than a few were wrinkled up little orange raisins. I chose to leave those on the plate. I believe that the sushi could use some work, but the service and sleeping employee seriously dropped the level of appreciation of this restaurant. It will be some time before I return. 2019 08 23. My third time here and it was awesome as always. If you are looking for really good chinese food and sushi this is your place! Service is also very good! My son had sushi for the first time last night and said it was very good. They have a daily special to pick 3 rolls for $12! One thing I love is they put egg in the fried rice. Not many places do that anymore and it is my favorite! We will be back again soon!

In a town chock full of Japanese sushi restaurants, this new entry - located in the former (and…read moremuch missed) seafood dining favorite, 30 Lake, two streets off the main shopping area downtown - Omakase is a stand out. Which is notable since it's costly. How costly you say? Well, my lunch set me back $70 which - for a cocktail, appetizer and one sushi roll - is high. Very high. The pricing cost them 1/2 a point in my review. The ambiance is more nightclub than Asian restaurant. Rather dark but not in a bad way. Modern Japanese? Maybe. Just not the 'feel' I expected on a Friday afternoon. I was warmly welcomed. I think the staff might upgrade their attire to complement their fine dining prices. Just sayin'. As previously mentioned, Omakase's prices are high. Think Upscale NYC which - as my hubs pointed out when I shared my luncheon experience with him - seems to be the direction that much of Saratoga Springs's downtown is going. For example, their Tom Yum Soup, which is offered in most Japanese restaurants, at $15.60 is twice what you would pay elsewhere locally. My Tuna Tartare was elegantly presented. It was similar to other sushi places I've been to except that the tuna was mushy instead of small pieces stop the mashed avocado. I did not find this especially appealing. What really set this dish apart from other Japanese places where I have eaten it was the crunch bits on top, the accompanying wasabi chips and sprinkling of micro greens. Nice touch but not worth $24 which is about double what I have paid at other dining establishments. A review of the menu shows that sushi prices are twice the cost of other Japanese places in town. I ordered what I will call their Signature Roll (not its real name) at $24. I tried to tie my leftovers to their menu without success. Was it good? Yes. The crunch bit on top were different. Was it worth the hefty roll price tag? Hmmm ... not sure. Service was attentive, 5 stars. If you are looking for a new take on sushi and have deep pockets, then definitely give Omakase a try. The menu has many chef reactions that you will not find elsewhere. And because I am a sushi aficionado and love creativity in dining, I will return to experience other interesting items on the menu. The chef's creative approach to sushi gets 5 stars. Keep in mind that street parking can be a challenge (as it was for the former 30 Lake). I give Omakase 4-1/2 stars.

The sushi was fantastic--the rice-to-fish ratio was spot on (about 90% sushi rice and 10% rich,…read morefresh fish), exactly how it should be. The rock shrimp bites were another winner: mostly shrimp with just a light, crisp batter, paired perfectly with the delicious yum yum dipping sauce. Even the salad bed that it sat on wasnt just decoration. It was actually a seasoned salad. 100% will be going back. A real gem!

I did an aunt/niece day for my niece's 17th birthday, and I asked her what type of food she wanted and she said Japanese. I came across this particular business on Yelp. Boy, was I glad that I came across this place because not one thing was bad. We both started off with the miso soup and had green hot tea. Both delicious. I also had a house salad with ginger dressing. Additionally, for appetizers, she had the avocado roll and tofu and I had the spicy crab roll. As for entrées. She had the vegetable fried rice and I had the general tso dream box. now, this is a lot of food for two ladies so we definitely had to box some things up, but we did save a little bit of room for the fried banana with ice cream and I must say it was OK, but I wish it was a little more fried. There was a birthday in the other room though, and it was like the lights went off and all these flashing light started happening and music and they started singing happy birthday. it was incredible. I definitely want to go back and probably for hibachi if you're in the area and you want some Japanese food I highly recommend this place. Trust me you get your bang for your balcony.
