Let's start with the good...it was ready when we arrived to pick it (always a bonus) and the salad was fresh and crisp. The rest of our meal was quite disappointing, the spring rolls were odd (overly full of warm rice noodles) but the peanut sauce was decent; I ordered a spicy tuna roll and I am not sure it was tuna, as it was orange so it was likely salmon, it was not at all spicy and the texture was kind of funky; my husband had chicken fried rice and ate very little (less than 10 bites) because it was not good. read more

The smell, the atmosphere, the dirty tables. When we were seated by the hostess, she noticed a fly and smacked it with her bare hands then continued to serve food to others.. THE WORST PART- after finishing our meals (which we didn't really finish.. it was undercooked and old) we were just starting to leave and a ROACH CRAWLED ONTO THE TABLE AND RAN ACROSS IT. We paid the $60 our meals were (just three meals) but went up to the servers to let them know what had just happened. They just stared at us and said "Okay". A favorite lunch spot of mine - great food and speedy sit-down service that makes the lunch hour feasible. My favorite is the hibachi chicken teriyaki, you can also get this in a bento box and both are available on the lunch specials for around $6-7. They also have a large array of sushi available. I highly recommended the sweet potato sushi, it's a warm vegetarian sushi with a crispier sesame crust. It's perfect dipped in soy sauce! It's a smaller restaurant that features a small hibachi grill area that I'm assuming they use during the dinner hour, I've never seen this used during lunch. Despite the size, there is seating for larger parties and booth seating as well. For a smaller town, it's a nice little Japanese find tucked away in the north side of Goshen away from downtown and the more congested areas of town. read more

I enjoyed every piece on the "couple's platter", a combo of Dragon, California rolls, sushi and sashimi. We ended up ordering two platters as it was not enough for two people. But we can eat a lot of sushi. The variety of sushi, maki, and specialty fish was small. No octopus, flying fish eggs or BBQ eel here... But what they offered was still really good. Urge appetizers are where it's at here. You've seriously gotta try all of them, and that sushi is stellar. However I have not had a pleasant experience with the staff. It's a cute and small space so I believe they just have the cooks and the owners serve. I had a question I asked my server "what is the difference between nigiri and sashimi?". She started to shake her head and raised her voice and said if you don't know then don't get it. I was pretty shocked and I had no idea what to say. So I just picked nigiri and in her raised voice she said I shouldn't get it if I don't know what it was, but I said "well. I'm gonna try it". And that was the end. There was plenty of people near us she really made me feel embarrassed. But the food was great, a little expensive compared to other similar restaurants around. read more

Goshen, Indiana: Not exactly known for its Japanese food. I've had many a sushi roll and hibachi dinner, so while I'm no expert, I would consider myself knowledgeable. I was in town visiting my mom, and here we ended up for dinner. They do have the traditional hibachi dinners on the menu -- complete with soup, salad, fried rice and choice of protein with veg -- but there's only one little table next to the sushi bar where you can actually watch the food get cooked. No big show for most of the customers. Which is, combined with its general location of Amish Country, Indiana, probably why the prices are half what you would pay in the Chicago area. Yep. Half. My onion soup + lackluster salad (but yummy dressing) + fried rice with veggies + hibachi chicken was about $9. The chicken was cooked well, tender and flavorful, the rice was solid, onion soup was a little low on the onion but tasty... I also ordered a spicy yellowtail roll and my mom's companion got shrimp shumai, I snagged one. The roll was pretty good -- jam-packed with yellowtail and nothing else, really -- and the shumai was flavorful. Tons of food. Service was pretty good. This is a weird location and not the slightly-nicer dining experience you might expect from a big city, but it's definitely nice to have something a little different available. Kudos for moving away from bland family restaurants, Goshen. read more

This was our first trip so we wanted to try as much as we could. We wanted to take our time and go over the menu, but our server was determined to get something going so came back every minute or so to 'check'. This made us a little crazy as well as feeling very rushed. We started with the appetizers: tempura shrimp and veggies, edamame and crab Rangoon. The edamame was absolutely forgettable. Skip it. Really. The tempura was steamy hot and tender, wonderfully flaky and delicious. The sauces lacked much flavor on every front (as did the onion soup that came with our meals). The crab Rangoon was probably the very best I had ever tasted. I would honestly drive to just have that. Amazingly light and tender and full of flavor. It came quickly, followed only moments later by our salads and soup that were to come with dinner. Again, rushed and very crowded on the tiny tables. Dinner itself consisted of The Wasabi Special (a hibachi combination), Shrimp and Vegetable Tempura and a Wasabi Special Roll. All came right after we had started our appetizers and had only a bite of our salad, leaving everything to sit and get cold. Very, very rushed! That said, hubby liked his Wasabi special, ate every bite, except the one shrimp and piece of broccoli he shared with me. (it was delicious!). The shrimp and vegetable tempura was a larger version on the appetizer we had gotten. It would have been nice to have had that clarified by our server. We would have done something else. But for me, the shining dish is the Wasabi special roll. Delicious with a tiny spicy bite (PLEASE add more flavor to your Wasabi and sauces, and much more heat!) crunchy and delicate. I would eat it every day. I'm afraid they are catering to a Midwestern audience here, which could cost them, as well as cramming our tables full much, much too quickly. That said, I would go back over and over for the Rangoon and Wasabi Roll. All leftovers came home, but I would suggest eating it fresh. We over ordered to try bits of everything. Our server was very sweet and had a misguided sense of urgency, but tried very hard. I assume she is just inexperienced. If you're close by, go! Enjoyed this sushi restaurant in an unassuming spot in...Goshen, IN? Run by Asians, the restaurant prepares sushi and some standard teriyaki dishes. We sampled several rolls that were pretty decent. Service was a little slow when we were there, and a minor complaint is that we were offered refills on tea, and then didn't realize that they would later charge us for the second pour. My friend and I always like to try new Asian Restaurants around Indiana, and this place by far has the cheapest selection and great food. The reason I wanted to write this review was because the waiter we had was really impatient and decided to rush us for some reason. It only had been ten minutes since we received the food! She also took away my other bowls without asking if I was finished. She also had the nerve to beg for tip which was really uncalled for. I had left a review about a year ago professing my love for this place. I still think it's the absolute best place for sushi in the area and the different items I've ordered have always been high quality. But for the first time, the service during my visit yesterday evening was much to be desired. I visited with a couple of friends and we placed our orders with a young waiter who was great and very nice. From then on, he switched with a waitress and when we received our food, we had multiple things missing- many of which should have came out before our meal, like salad and miso soup. When we would ask for these things, it kind of seemed like we were bothering our waitress. The place was busier than I have ever seen it, but that's no excuse. We probably waited 20 minutes for someone to come collect our checks which was kind of upsetting because the place had thinned out by then. I will be returning mainly because the food is bomb.com, I just really hope management can fix the lack of good service. read more

This restaurant was very disappointing. We order sushi that looked old and seem to be bland. The sushi was red snapper and all it was a piece of fish on top of a ball of rice. It could have been that I choose the wrong type of sushi. When we ordered the entrees we noticed the lettuce in our salad was turning yellow. From my experience I see this as an indicator that not everything is fresh. Their dressing was good. Didn't make up for all the other down falls. For being a steakhouse I expected a more decent meal with strong flavor. read more

Good food this is not. It is hardly worth much comment. I will mitigate this opinion saying that I have had little of their sushi. Maybe some of it is okay. What I sampled was an utter disgrace to its culinary heritage. I object to sushi in the Midwest on a number of grounds (Flash freezing salt water fish to ship inland works in principle. Its texture is, simply, not that of the fresh stuff on the coast). The "onion" soup was nothing of the sort!! Dried onions in beef broth! When was that a traditional Japanese dish? That is why they sell packaged Ramen. The Hibachi grill used good meat, but it was too saucy and distinctly Americanized in both its texture and sweetness. Again, I am willing to have my opinions changed. But I will not be paying for another meal at Wasabi as I can do much better at any number of other regional restaurants (and that is not a high bar to meet) or at home. read more

We usually go to Fort Wayne for our Sushi, but decided to try this place because it was close to my wife's brothers house and its closer than driving an hour. Also my bro-in-law g/f who had never eaten sushi before We had edamame, crab rangoons, combo steak & shrimp, fried rice, cali rolls, volcano rolls, yellow tail roll, and red roll, and the house salad CONS: Sushi rice was mushy, no pot of hot tea just individual cups @ $1.89 each, a small limited sushi menu, wasabi wasn't hot enough, they drowned the salad in the ginger dressing, the sliced fish on top was a little thinner than we are use to. Our Waiter never came back to check on refills PROS: Edamame was good, rangoons were delicious and so was the sauce that came with them, the yum yum sauce and ginger sauce that came with our lunch combo made good dipping sauces for the sushi as well, the salad even though drowned in ginger dressing was still good, our sushi was good even though the rice was soggy, fried rice was ok but was a little oily. The price can not be beat, my brother in law and his g/f ate for under $20. We got edamame, lunch combo, and 3 different kinds of rolls, 2 hot teas, all for like $35. In all you have to remember where this place is located Goshen, IN. If you are in town I would highly recommend this place if you are looking for decent sushi and japanese steak house. The price is right and the food is good especially if you are eating at those buffets in town. We will be back when we are in the area and have a sushi craving. I loved this place! I went with one of my girlfriends who also loves sushi. We need more places like it in our area. The wasabi special roll was my FAVORITE! Great server who gave suggestions and was very friendly. I liked it so much I am heading back there with my husband this week. The only downside is the atmosphere. We can get good sushi without leaving Goshen! I regret that it took us a while to discover Wasabi was hiding in Goshen. I was very pleased with our visit. I think they're new enough they're still finding their groove, but there wasn't anything that lessened the experience over all. We had an assortment of sushi and sashimi, the kids had selections from the habachi and everything was very good. And reasonably priced once you do all the math. I lost track of the items that came with soup and salad. The ginger dressing was very good. I forgot to try the onion soup but my miso was quite good. I'm still new to sushi, but I've had enough to know when certain elements come together just right. And for a first visit everything was just right, the cut and texture of the fish, the rice tender but not squishy. And just firm enough to balance out the texture of the fish. I did find a couple of minor critiques(not complaints) that I'll mention to them on my next visit if I encounter those issues again. I am definitely going to spread word and support Wasabi. It's a nice change of pace we don't often get in this part of Indiana and it always feels good to support a quality local small business. read more

Ok, what happened? Service was sad - I was served cold "hot tea" twice, then charged for it, we had to ask for soy sauce dishes, and waited around for them after the sushi was served. The sushi was also not the quality it used to be - a lot more sloppy, and the portions were smaller. We used to really enjoy our Wasabi visits, but we've taken them off the list of places to go.
