This was a cute restaurant open late. The kids are usually picky eaters but the ramen noodles and fried rice were both tasty. The chicken cutlet was also well flavored. It's a self serve for silverware. The food came out extremely quick which was a nice surprise. We bought boba tea for a drink but would have appreciated a place to self serve water and also wanted spoons for the kids. Same good portions on the spicy miso but as others have mentioned, much too spicy, a 5/5 or 8/10 on heat level. You'll love it if you like it spicy but think they should ask. I am thrilled to see Okasan Ramen finally opened up. There are a few sushi places around town, but ramen is totally lacking its presence in the area. This place is very bright and open. I love their own cartoon art surrounded the space. Other than ramen, there are other option like udon and curry rice. In additional, they also added in a few Taiwanese snacks and of course bubble tea. My favorite would be the Tonkotsu Ramen and the Chicken Cutlet. The broth for the ramen looks thin, but the flavor is there. The Chicken Cutlet is huge. The breading is super crispy and as you bite into it, the chicken is super moist and juicy. I have been waiting for this place to open for well over a year, since before COVID and everything so I was so excited to finally try it. I only got tonkatsu ramen and gyoza. The gyoza seemed more like the kind that come out of a bag from Fruit Mountain although I don't want to assume. The younger girl working was really sweet from what interaction I had with her. It's not really a sit down place; you order at a counter and you seat yourself. They have bubble tea but I wasn't too impressed. I'd love to see more flavors for those. Great little gem tucked away in a strip mall pretty close to ND campus. Ramen was good. Service was fast and friendly. I had Spicy Miso ramen and it was spicier than expected but great. My son had the Chicken Tantan ramen, and loved it (I also did) Give it a try if you like authentic ramen. Broth on the spicy chicken tan tan was less umami flavor from hours-long cooked pork/chicken bone broth... and more like seasoned (especially sweet) that was less depth in flavor. The slices of chicken were decent portion and tender. Order at counter and place the number at table to be served type of deal. They just dropped off at our table and members of our group gad to figure out which ramen type went to whom. So, 1.5 points removed for soggy noodles, over sweetened broth and lack of basic service of getting the correct order to the respective customer. With Okasan translating to someone else's mother it set the bar high for what to expect. Im happy to share that it met the expectation that I had set for them. The only drawback that I had with Okasan was the limited options of spicy food available and add ons. It had the flavor of almost Carnitas it was paired with some lettuce and small sauce. Chicken Katsu was like eating a Japanese Chicken Sandwich it was also paired with lettuce and some mayo. The Tonkotsu Ramen was the highlight of the meal two pieces of pork an egg with a piece of seaweed for decoration. The presentation was well done and made the meal look inviting. Those that like some spice they don't have a Spicy Ramen but can sell you some chili paste. Overall I was very pleased with what Okasan had to offer. The new locale is very clean and welcoming, although the music was pretty dang loud considering there were so few people dining there at the time. Man this place should not be so slow as it was when we first showed up to eat tonight. We got 2 Tonkotsu Ramen bowls and a Green Bubble Milk Tea, along with the Lemon Strawberry and Lemon Orange Grapefruit Teas. First of all the reviews saying the food was not enough? No idea where you got that idea from but as a really heavy eater myself, the normal serving was more than enough to fill me. The teas were made from mostly fresh fruit save for the grapefruit which was fine because grapefruit raw is tart as hell and overall can make the tea ruined. Oranges, lemon, strawberries all prepped fresh, watched the incredibly nice cashier make it and prep everything himself. Boba tea was made fresh, boba was warm and comforting. The staff were amazing! For starters the portion was very small, bowl seemed to be half full; normally ramen places you are stuffed if you finish the portion. The broth was bland, had more sweet notes then savory, and was lacking seasoning. The topping were pretty sparse, it only had two thin slices of pork. Also there was barely any broth, it was mainly just noodles once I stirred the dish.
