What a game...my bride treated me to the divisional game between Washington and my flying high eagles. Great opportunity to see my team take command of the commanders and spank that A$^. Overall a great experience, if was cold and we prepared for the adventure. Recommend getting the gold which allows you to get a variety of foods at no cost. GRAB AND go!!..Alcohol kinda expensive....but the food was plentiful and available at a varity of locations. We took Uber thinking it would be less.of a headache...not, 30$$ going and 83$$ for return trip and we left at the top of 4th quarter. Giants verse Commanders -- Season Opener It was a crisp Sunday morning, we arrived early for tailgating and pregaming before the game would take place that afternoons. The air was charged and filled with excitement. We all wondered which team would be the victor, who'd bring home the first win of the season?! The food in the club house for season ticket holders was good "game day food." There were soft drinks, hot dogs, other snacks and treats. Before we went to the stadium, we enjoyed music from a band at one event and from a DJ at another. There was also a BBQ event, to decide who had the best food. I have been to this stadium several times over the years as a friend is a season ticket holder and I often purchase game tickets from her. If you are a ticket holder and have priority parking and entry - it is easy to get here as the roads are reversed for coming/going to speed up traffic and you can stay on the interstate the entire way for a smooth entrance into the parking adjacent to the stadium. Once inside, you'll enter to find a huge stadium with an indoor/outdoor vibe and tons of drinks and concession areas to get snacks and goodies. Signage is easy to follow to find your section/seats and there are plenty of staff around to help as well. If, you do not have parking adjacent to the stadium, it can get insane and traffic snarls for hours so you need to plan far ahead and try to be there a few hours early and bring your patience when you exit. read more

The Washington Commanders are somewhat of a tough team to rate. In the totality of the franchise's history, Washington has won two NFL Championships (1937, 1942) and three Super Bowls (XVII in 1983, XXII in 1988, and XXVI and 1992). In those days, the Commanders were known as the Washington Redskins (1937-2019). The Redskins were huge when I was growing up. However, in terms of "What have you done for me lately?," Washington has been mediocre at best, most notably after Daniel Snyder assumed ownership of the team in 1999. In the 23 seasons since, Washington has only qualified for the playoffs six times. All six times, they entered as a Wild Card team and never made it past the divisional round. In this sense, Washington is more of a three-star team, but those Super Bowl championships in the 80s and early 90s had a big impact, so I'm giving this team four stars. The legendary Joe Gibbs led Washington to all three of the team's Super Bowl titles. Gibbs has more Super Bowl championships than 23 active NFL franchises. He won back-to-back NFL Coach of the Year awards after the '82 and '83 seasons, both of which ended with the Redskins in the Super Bowl. Three QBs led the Gibbs-coached 'Skins to those championships: Joe Theismann in 1982-83, Doug Williams in 1987-88, and Mark Rypien in 1991-92. Theismann was the regular season NFL MVP in 1983. Williams was named MVP of Super Bowl XXII. He's the first black quarterback to win a Super Bowl and Super Bowl MVP award. Rypien was a backup to Williams on the XXII-winning team and later took over for Williams, becoming the full-time starter beginning in the 1989 season. Rypien was the Super Bowl XXVI MVP. Since Gibbs' first stint in Washington (1981-1992), the franchise has had 11 different head coaches (including Gibbs' second stint, 2004-2007). Big names and championship coaches have rolled through including Norv Turner, Marty Schottenheimer, Steve Spurrier, Mike Shanahan, and Ron Rivera. None have been able to achieve the level of consistent success that Gibbs had in the 80s and early 90s. Washington has drafted some promising young players over the past decade. A couple examples include Robert Griffin III and Chase Young. RG3, who was selected with the second pick in the 2012 draft, went on to become NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year. Chase Young was also selected with the second pick, but in the 2020 draft. Due to injuries and other reasons, Griffin's career in Washington was short-lived. His last game as a Redskin was in 2014. WAS v PHI, my first in-person NFL game. Solid 3.5 overall experience thanks to club level seats (section 304) with a great view AND Gold club perks (highly recommend); it's a reward for renewing season tickets for 2+ years that includes FREE soda, popcorn, chips, hot dogs, nachos, pizza, chicken fingers and fries in the designated locations! Stadium holds 85k but was only 2/3 full. Getting into and out of the stadium was crazy even with a platinum park pass. Teams were evenly matched but WAS ended up losing 20-17. Though I didn't have a dog in the fight, it was neat seeing ODU alumn Taylor Heinicke as an NFL starting QB. Masks required to enter. Don't waste your money and pay $11,000 for 2 suite seats for Commanders season tickets as the food is the worst ever. I would rather sit on the 7th row in my season ticket seats and save the $7,000 difference in the price and buy food that is better than the lackluster, cold, rotten garbage they provide. 7/13/20 and so the song "Hail to the Redskins" is retired along with the icon and hopefully colors too.  The name has sparked a lot of controversy and possibly even fights.    I haven't been to FedEx Field that I can remember.  I wasn't into American Football until the year 2012. I just happen to be following the playoffs and was enjoying what I saw in the Baltimore Ravens.   I found myself getting excited when the team I liked were winning and nervous when they were behind. I had to ask myself "is this what happens when you are becoming a fan of the game/sport/team? The answer to that is a YES. Well I am not a Redskins fan, but I still have some mixed emotions on not seeing the team logo anymore.  The new team names I have heard so far are The Washington Redwolves, The Washington Redtails or The Washington Warriors. Personally I like the name Washington Warriors, but the team shouldn't be coming out to play. (If you haven't seen the movie The Warriors,  there is an improvised scene by done by  David Patrick Kelly. Its creepy and brilliant. Most importantly, adds tension to the movie...but I have never seen the whole movie. Just that scene, but i digress...)  I also like the name The Washington Wolves, but not the Red Wolves...to much of throwback to The Redskins.   I say if the name is going to change, then everything about the team should change too. New Logo, New Team Colors and most importantly new attitudes.  The team motto could be Don't Turn Your Back On The Wolfpack, but the N.W.O (World Championship Wrestling aka WCW'S New World Order had that motto first, but they no longer exist...except on Video,Dvd or Youtube. Still the Washington Redtails and Redwolves are just cheap imitations of the former name Redskins.  RedTails I see people says "The RedaTails  have turned tails and run."   No, the only name that stands a chance this far is The Washington Warriors.    I don't get why The Redskins have their training camp in Richmond Virginia, Play their games in Maryland, and seem to fight for all DC to which they are not really apart of.  Yeah, I do get it, but don't you see the irony in it all? Still, I will miss seeing the Feathers on the Redskins Icon. It what I liked about the icon.  Could the warriors have a tomahawk with a feathers in red or some other color than yellow? I will be honest I'm not a big Redskins fan even though yes I am a native Washingtonian. But we came here to see the Redskins play the Ravens during a pre-season game (that's my team). So we had pretty nice tickets courtesy of a customer of my hubby's so we got club level passes with covered parking very close to the stadium. With that as well we had access to comped food and drinks. Now I honestly have only been to one other Redskins game at Fed Ex and I've been to one or two concerts here. Now finding our way to where we needed to go was super confusing, I swear they must have hidden signage if you're trying to find your way to the club level. The food provided was ok but I wouldn't say it was anything to write home about. But it sure beats paying the inflated stadium prices. There are plenty of vendors throughout the stadium. For whatever reason the Redskins has Paisano's pizza (I'll pass on that). We had good seats along the 50 yard line, although we were in the mid level. The downers, getting here both in/out is a colossal headache. Traffic is awful, not to mention the just crazy time trying to find my way back to 495. I can see why its been at least 10+ years since I've been to any event at this stadium. read more

If you are a fan and don't know than please read...... but with a new season upon us I needed to give respect when respect is due. The redskins organization was built on the methodology that defense wins football games. So lets see where we are this time...... I loved the the draft pick. Kerrigan along with Orakpo on the other side is starting to gel into a lethal combination. Fletcher as always gets the job done and with Laron coming back be prepared for more solid energy to complete that solid backbone that we need. We are good on one side in the secondary but need to strengthen the opposite side of D Hall... he can't do it alone. I would love to see a sneaky beast at free safety like what Ed Reed has done at that position. It places the offense on high alert knowing your watching. Finally we got rid of Portis. Yes that could ruffle feathers but he needed to go 3 years ago. Now with Hightower, Helu and Torain we seem pretty solid at RB. Yes there is always going to be confusion at QB until we pull a new one from an upcoming draft class or trade up for one.... or better yet give Beck a shot. We are weak in depth of WR's even though Gaffney and Moss have been catching whatever comes their way. Lastly Banks has been the most electrifying KR that I've seen in the organization. I don't know what all the fuss is about. Is it really that hard to just rebrand the team as the "Washington Athletes Of Various Ethnicities And Anyway We Are All One Race, People"? First-Hand Experience: I lived in NOVA so I'd come to FedEx Field now and again, and did manage to see the Skins play here once despite the extortionate ticket prices. I'll be back again one day, for sure. I'm not a fan of the home team though, or the owners. They score a 2 because of the awful owner and the prices, but the fans are more like a 4, my fave Cheerleader and friend is a 10 out of 5, and the stadium is a 5. The Skins lost in the only game I ever watched here. Now that I've seen every NFL team play live & been to every NFL stadium (current and former), time to review them on Yelp! I love stadiums! As much can be said about the division they play in. How can any true football fan not love the NFC East? This is the toughest division in all of professional sports. The Skins, Giants, Iggles, and Boys. These 4 teams hate each other and every game is an old school, smash mouth, slugfest. Each and every year it's pretty much expected that 2 of these teams will be in the Playoffs and it's not all that surprising when 3 of them to do. The Redskins/Cowboys rivalry is one of the best in sports. These games are legendary. Who can forget the two touchdowns in the final 2 minutes in '05? Nothing compares to the energy that the entire DC Metropolitan area feels when this team is in the playoffs. You can literally feel the excitement in the air. There are no fans as diehard as the Skins fans. You find them everywhere, singing the fight song and booing the Boys. The Skins have broken the single season attendance record 8 years in a row. And, of course, you got the 12 hardcore dudes that come to the games in dresses, garden hats, and pig snouts. 'Nuff said. +1 Star for getting absolutely no love from the rest of the world. Bring on the hate! Talk about them on sports talk radio. Underrate them on SportsCenter while you spend at least 20 minutes per show talking about the Cowboys and who Tony Romo is dating. Overlook Santana Moss, Clinton Portis, Chris Cooley, and this defense. Make Dan Snyder the butt of your jokes as if spending too much to try to win somehow makes him a worse owner than William Clay Ford, Wayne Weaver or Mike Brown. Dear Skins, I know everyone is uber down on you right now, but know that, at least, in me, you have a loyal and faithful fan. To start with, from August to January, you occupy my husband practically every Sunday. Which means, I can happily go fabric and shoe shopping without apology. Secondly, my husband feels so much guilt at making me a "football widow" that after he's done watching your games, he will sit with me as I watch crappy reality TV. Thirdly, the fact that you guys suck this season is actually a *GOOD* thing. Rather then faking interest at your plays, now, when I say "honey, how's the game going?", I just get a groan and a sob. No more 10 minute ramblings about interceptions and fumbles. Finally, I will forever love you because the shade of maroon that you have picked for your team colors is super flattering on me. Which means I can show up at manly-men football outings (which usually has wings, nachos and other delicious foods) in your team colors and not look heinous. Thank goodness you didn't pick that atrocious purple like the Ravens (makes me look like the girl from Willy Wonka - you know, the one that turned into a giant blueberry), or that ugly green like the Packers (makes me look jaundiced and sallow). I love the Redskins and I love to hate them. Furthermore, I wouldn't trade them in for the world. Sure, every year my soul is crushed with unfulfilled promises of hope and potential beckoning like the whisper of long-lost love just out of reach. But, I've measured my life by Redskins games: My first game at RFK with Randall Cunningham and the Eagles coming into town. Dec. 22, 1996, a wee freshman in high school, standing on the dugout of RFK for the final game against the Cowboys, watching the bleachers roll to "Auld Lang Syne." Tearing up, while a moving Sean Taylor tribute plays on the scoreboard at FedEx. Call me sentimental, call me foolish - though I'll be the first to complain about our lack of an offensive line, our sorry secondary, or our non-explosive run game, I'll also be the first to defend my hometown team, to dissect every off-season move, listen to hours upon hours of sports talk radio, and still get inexplicably excited when I hear the familiar strains of "Hail to the Redskins." You can't choose who you love, folks. The Redskins are like your deadbeat uncle. He comes and crashes on the couch during the holidays, always has some cockamamie scheme cooked up to make a quick buck that never pans out, but can make you laugh for hours with a good story or a clever magic trick. I am a long time Redskins fan. Nearly 40 years. I can tell you that this is a team with REAL fans. Not the band-wagoners, not the hipsters, or hangers on. When you follow a team as a REAL fan you are there for the highs and lows. I notice that way back in 1999 there were maybe 9 Patriot fans on the planet and then in 2001 Tom Brady started the Pat's winning and now there are millions. The same phenomena is part of the Cowboys faithful; however, for the Cowboys it is not about winning. It is the simple star on the helmet and the child like minds of the Cowboy fan. Instant match. The NFC East has the most super bowl titles, but none from the Eagles... The dream team must continue to dream. The G-Men, I can't bad mouth them, they have been a good team.
