Disappointing Experience - Poor Service & Inconvenient Resolution I placed a pickup order from Washington Family Restaurant and included two to-go orange juices. When I called to check on the timing, they told me I could come in right away. However, when I arrived, my order hadn't even been started, and I had to wait about 10 minutes. While I was waiting I watched the waitresses repeatedly drop menus on the floor, pick them up and put them right back into circulation, I did not see anyone wash their hands even once during the course of this. Once I finally got home, I realized my two orange juices were missing. I called the restaurant, and they confirmed I had been charged for them but didn't receive them. Instead of offering a refund over the phone (even though I paid with a card in person), they told me the *only* way to get my money back was to drive back to the restaurant. This completely defeats the purpose of ordering takeout in the first place. Mistakes happen, but the way businesses handle them matters. Expecting a customer to go out of their way to fix *their* error--on their own time and gas money--is just bad customer service. A simple remote refund or a credit for a future visit would have been reasonable. Unfortunately, their unwillingness to provide a convenient solution makes me question whether I'll return. read more

I was planning on a carry-out on a Friday night, and I thought I'd give Washington Family another try. There were no cars in the lot, which is a very bad sign--especially for a weekend, and it's only 7:30 p.m. Website says the place is open until 8:00. Sign on the door says the place is open until 8:00. The door is open. Yet the place seems deserted. Eventually, someone came out from the kitchen and told me they were closed. My one-star rating is a reflection of the place offering no food and no service of any kind. Any place that closes early on the weekend because they have no business isn't worth another try. read more

Lived in Washington for many years and never went to this restaurant before. Recently, I tried it for breakfast and the food was excellent! I'm fussy about my eggs, and they were perfect. The fried potatoes had the brown crispy top that is so good...service was friendly and efficient. My table was spotlessly clean, and the salt and pepper shakers were clean. Have been trying local places for breakfast. What attracted me here was a feta cheese omelette which none of the others had. Everybody has a bad day, and one waitress didn't show up. In spite of that, my meal arrived quickly. On that first bite I tasted the cheese. After that, I didn't. Very good breakfast. Our server was amazing. I believe her name was Caric. Extremely friendly and sweet. Everyone from the staff to even the other customers were friendly. We ate Walleye Special n the fish my husband had was very greasy. The salads used to be a nice size. But the salads were so small n disappointing. If we go back only for breakfast. I was looking for a place for breakfast and saw a sign out in front that said Best Central Illinois Breakfast. Once inside the place was packed and the staff took us to the last open table. The waitress told us they were low on menus so we would have to share one. I ordered country breakfast, which was biscuits and gravy and I picked poached eggs. The eggs were fantastic, but the gravy lacked seasoning. My guest had the meat lovers skillet, which was fried eggs, potatoes and assorted meat. Constant 1 star when you order from here. The first time I ordered a few months ago it was great, but the cooking has gone way downhill the last month or so. Staff is mostly nice aside from the 40+ yr old with short blond hair. I had to send food back twice, once for being burnt the second for lacking the gravy it was advertised with. Speedy friendly service and great, classic diner breakfast. DH and I both had the Western Skillet - adding mushrooms to mine was no problem. Both came out together with perfectly done over-easy eggs. Bacon was crispy without being overdone. They didn't have the home potatoes - just hash browns- hash browns were nicely crisped on the surface - next time I might ask for them to spread them out a bit to get more of them browned. We usually get take out and have been going here for quite a while. Lately they have been getting my orders wrong either leaving things off like baked potatoes or charging me more than what the menu states. Example ordered a ham dinner with a baked potato and was charged 9.95 which the menu state 8.95 and was told since it was a sunday it cost more????? but I didn't get any more with the dinner so why charge more than the menu states?? wasn't on the special board??? they have consistently left off things which we either had to come back for or would have to pick up another time... From the first moment you walk in to the slow walk out the door you are SATISFIED! My husband and I have have lived in Washington for 5 years and had never stopped in to Washington Family Restaurant. I really wanted some 'diner' food last night. I ordered the 'For Dad' breakfast. 2 eggs, 2 pancakes, 2 bacon slices and 2 sausage links. The hubs ordered the Gyro. We were seated right away by this amazing waitress Kay. She was perfectly attentive. Not in our face but not ignoring us either. Our food arrived quickly and it was delicious! My scrambled eggs were perfect, pancakes were fluffy and just the right amount of sweet. Bacon was crispy and sausage links were tasty. Served with enough butter to actually cover the 'cakes and warm maple syrup. My husband's Gyro had a good portion of meat on a warm pita with tomatoes, onion and tsitzki (sp?) sauce along with crinkle cut fries. The meat on the Gyro was freshly sliced and grilled and the tomatoes and onions were fresh. Not the type of vegetables on a sandwich that has been sitting out and rubbery. We were stuffed half way thru each of our meals. Again Kay was perfectly attentive while we ate. The atmosphere was that of a diner but a clean well cared about diner. The slow walk out the door was because we were stuffed and happy! Definitely will go back with the kids and start making regular visits to The Washington Family Restaurant! And you should too! When we arrived what we think was outside sweeping the parking lot in his apron. There were only 3 tables seated when we arrived. We placed our drink order, 2 iced tea WITH LEMON. They arrived without lemon. Waited about 10 minutes and asked again. Was told that she just cut some. We placed our order. Another table came in and ordered after we did. They got their food before we did. We ordered a taco salad and the fried chicken liver dinner. The French fries came out like warm and looked like they had been sitting around for a while. I will never return to this restaurant! I have never had a problem with how a restaurant cleans but this restaurant was dirty and whatever cleaning product they used on the floor smelled like dirty chemicals. It was so strong that my eyes began to water, nose became congested and runny, sinus' began to hurt and I had to eat with my nose covered so I didn't breathe in the chemical smell. It was the most miserable meal I have ever had. The waitress and owner had no concern at all about the way they mop the floor. It smelled as if they threw cleaning fluid down and barely rinsed it with dirty water. However, I can't figure out how the floor was so filthy if they had recently mopped. read more

very good food, great atmosphere, the servers are nice and friendly ass can be, they recently remodeled in here, the place looks great, also has very awesome food, every time I come here, I get the 4 piece chicken dinner, along with a side a vegetables, also a side of salad, the chicken is excellent, they also have excellent breakfast to, I came in this past week for breakfast and good the breakfast for dad I believe its called, it has two pancakes, two eggs, two pieces of bacon, and two pieces of sausage links, my entire breakfast was excellent, good coffee to, I highly recommend this place!!! read more

This place is THE most unprofessional establishment in the area. Tonight we went there for dinner.. I ordered a meat lovers skillet.. The entire thing came to the table BURNT. Eggs were BROWN, everything else, hash browns, bacon, sausage were near BLACK. If I'd have had any sense I'd have taken a pic with my phone. Anyway, I sent it back, very nicely I might add, and asked if there was any way I could just order something else from the menu. I ended up ordering the hot turkey and mashed potatoes. OUR waitress, a younger woman, was nice about it, asking if i wanted gravy. I said 'yes please, but just on the potatoes.' When my food came, delivered by the OTHER waitress, (the VERY VERY rude one who is their main waitress) gave me my food, sans gravy. I asked, 'Can i get a side of gravy please?" So she walks to the counter and says to another waitress, rather loudly, "NOW SHE WANTS GRAVY!" and the other waitress laughed. The whole time the manager/supervisor was standing there and didn't say a WORD. My husband took my food to the counter to the manager and told them about the incident. He pointed out the waitress that was HORRIBLY RUDE (chunky, just above the shoulder bleached/processed hair, about 40 yrs old) and told the manager what happened. Her response? "No, they no laugh at you, they laugh at something else." No. She went from MY TABLE and immediately said, "NOW SHE WANTS GRAVY!" and everyone laughed about it. EXCUSE THE HECK out of me for wanting my food that I'm PAYING FOR to be right. Needless to say I, nor ANY of my family will be returning there. Their food is mediocre at best anyway, and their rolls are always stale. The only thing that's any good there is the cheeseburger, but it's definitely not worth the horrible service. read more
