I've wanted to go to a Chiropractor for a long time, but kept putting it off. Due to my increasing shoulder, neck and headache pain I finally decided to go. I chose Washington Spine and Disc because of my insurance and the location. The office was easy to find and the staff was very pleasant. Dr. Giaten was also very nice and really thorough. I didn't know what to expect during the appointment, but he walked me through everything. He did a detailed exam of my spine, explained all of his findings, and then recommended a course of action. I had a therapy session first to loosen my shoulder, back, and neck muscles then he performed the adjustment. The adjustment is uncomfortable and I was sore afterwards, but the next day I felt great. I plan to continue going for adjustments and I highly recommend this practice. read more

I have been seeing Dr. Banou and Dr. Gaitan at Washington Spine & Disc for about a month now for back pain. Both doctors have been great, professional, and caring with my chiropractic needs. They always carefully explain the procedures and their benefits, and ensure that I am comfortable before performing any realignment or therapy treatments. Additionally, the front desk staff are great. They are very personable, kind, and customer-oriented, making you feel welcomed when you enter the office. I had a horrible experience at this chiropractor. I arrived for my first appointment with Dr. Gaitan as a new patient 20 minutes early to fill out any new patient intake forms. My appointment was at noon. By 11:50 I had filled out all my paper work and given everything to the front desk staff. By 12:20 I was still waiting, no one had updated me or even let me know the doctor was running behind. When I asked the front desk how much longer they immediately moved me to a room and said the doctor would be with me shortly. After waiting another 15 min I had to leave the exam room to ask the Front desk for an update. They told me the doctor would be with me shorty and that he was trying to "knock out another patient." I told them I was here on my lunch and that after more than 45 minutes of waiting with no one even updating me unprompted I would be leaving and I asked for my intake forms back. What a horrible experience. I would not recommend. read more

I have been a patient for eight years (since 2011) and have always been exceptionally pleased with the care. I've seen many other chiropractors and none compare to these doctors. The front desk staff is very friendly; whenever I'm in pain, they will find a way to squeeze me in for an appointment ASAP. Now, I am pregnant and expecting my first child. I expressed to Dr. Banou that I had some questions about continued chiropractic care during the pregnancy. She took time to listen carefully and answered all of my questions. Their tables even adjust to properly accommodate pregnant tummies. She reassured me that if there is ever a type of adjustment or treatment that made me uncomfortable, we would simply skip those treatments. I highly recommend Washington Spine and Disc to anyone experiencing back pain, and especially to pregnant women. read more

I am giving this one star for both the practice itself and the administration. First, about the practice. I had severe neck pain (much worse than what I came in with) after my treatment. So much so, that I started seeing a physical therapist afterwards because of my neck injury during the adjustment. I wish she had never adjusted my neck or given me fair warning about what a neck adjustment is and how it may hurt/damage my neck. It has been two months and I'm in much worse pain than before coming to Dr. Banou and as a result have to see a physical therapist to get my neck back to where it was. Needless to say, it was one of the worst decisions I have ever made. The administration was very poorly done. They wanted to charge me the full amount of $105 even though my insurance covers it with a $5 co-pay. When I pushed back, they accepted $10 co-pay, which is what I thought it was at the time. Then I called back to get the $5 back credited to my card, and they said their system won't allow them to do that. They told me they will mail me a $5 bill which I did not receive. I called earlier today and no one answered. It just seems very shady for a reputable business to charge more (which they said they could apply to future visits) and not reimburse. read more

I came in with back issues and now my neck has been in so much pain since I came here and I've had a headache every since as a result. Ive been to chiropractors before and while they usually only provide temporary relief I've never actually left in more pain than when I came in, like I did here. I do not recommend. read more

Miracle workers, really. I have all kinds of issues with my lower back, sciatica, etc., and sometimes I can't even stand up straight and end up walking around like Marty Feldman in 'Young Frankenstein.' Dr. Gregory has hooked me up every time, and I can't say enough about his practice, methods or demeanor. I was a skeptic at first, mostly b/c of my parents in the 70s talking down about chiropractic doctors, but it's not like my general practitioner ever did a single damn thing for my back besides "take advil, rest, call again.." blah blah blah. This Monday was my first time at a chiropractor, and Dr. Christian Gregory made me feel very comfortable. He's personable, professional, and is able to talk about the medical issues that are tangential to chiropractic care -- muscle care, exercise, diet, etc. I've always been skeptical of chiropractic care, and my second visit to Dr. Gregory is tomorrow, but I believe I found one of the best chiropractors in DC. This practice of Dr. Banou and Dr. Gaitan is totally outstanding in every way, and I do not say this lightly but out of experience with many other chiropractors over the years. They are both extremely knowledgeable not only about physiology (sounds funny, but not all practitioners in the past were), and are totally gifted with the required gentleness for effective adjustments. (Many years ago I left one chirorpactor in another practice with "trigger thumb" from a much too rough adjustment. As a rehabilitation physician in my family says, "One is not supposed to leave a doctor's offfice in worse shape than when one comes in." This will never every happen in the Banou-Gaitan practice.) They have also given me simple, but wonderfully easy and quick exercises to heal and function. This is a very serious concern for clients with both osteoporosis and scoliosis, especially during this current time of sheltering at home. I am truly truly grateful for help in keeping balance and strength during a time like this and in future times of ice and snow. I admire and envy their "healing hands" and friendly, supportive manner. Just walking in the door makes one start a visit feeling better. And the office could not be more conveniently located. It is well serviced by being just south of the Van Ness red line metro stop and buses coming up Connecticut Avenue, NW. I am thrilled and ever so grateful for this superb, very special practice. I had been in a car accident almost 9 years ago and never got the care I needed to fix my neck and back injury. This plagued me for so long until I decided to try my luck with a chiropractor. Dr. Banou was the first one I met with and I could not rave more about her care. I've been seeing her for 4 months now and I feel like I have a new lease on life. Honestly, if I could give Dr. Banou more than five stars, I would do so in a heartbeat! Her office is warm and inviting, the gals at the front desk make scheduling and conforming appointments so easy, and her bedside manner and adjustments are top notch. I always leave feeling so much better, and after going to her for several months now, I only wish I'd started seeing her sooner. She is kind, courteous, extremely professional and takes time to treat you holistically (example--I complained my hips were bothering me bc of a new class I was taking at the gym, she figured out a way to correct that issue along with the issues in my neck/back!). I was in such severe back pain last week that I couldn't walk. I was sent to Dr. Gregory by a referral from my regular doctor, which meant my doctor sent Dr. Gregory's office a message asking them to call me and schedule an appointment. I waited for Dr. Gregory's office to call me and let me know when they had openings and they never called. I finally called them almost in tears and the receptionist said first that she had been waiting for me to call them, and then that she wouldn't be able to fit me in for another four days. When I did finally see Dr. Gregory, he talked so much that I was interrupted several times and he didn't listen to the extent of my history and what I'd been doing to try to treat the pain. He lifted my legs a few times, cracked my back, then told me he had it all figured out. Treatment involved having me lie down on his massaging table for 10 minutes with some form of lasers sending zaps to my muscles, and told me to come back in two days for physical therapy "exercises". On my way out, he told me my pain "wasn't that bad" and that I'd be fine with stretches and ibuprofen. No matter how you feel about Dr. Gregory or his office, this is NOT good health care. Telling a patient with such acute pain that they can't walk to wait four days to be seen is ridiculous, and it's even worse to tell a patient their pain is insignificant when they are finally seen. I ended up going somewhere else and paying out of pocket and receiving much more thorough treatment (treatment which actually solved my pain) and better all around care.... in the same day that I called. Dr. Gregory seemed like a nice man, but am not impressed with his office nor his practices. read more

The front desk is friendly. This is a full service practice with various machines, not just physical adjustments. I just moved from abroad and I am a new patient of Dr. Banou's. I have chronic back pain due to a bulging disc in my lower spine which I was treating with spinal decompression. From the moment I walked in her clinic, I knew I was in good hands. She immediately made me feel comfortable, identified the source of my back issue, and proceeded to recommend a few sessions of adjustments to treat the back issue at its core, as opposed to carrying on with the decompression which only provided temporary pain relief. After the first visit (a manipulation) I felt immediate pain relief! She is very caring and gentle, and almost motherly. She truly put me at ease. I will continue to see Dr. Banou as I am optimistic now that I am on the right path to recovery! read more

It doesn't get any better than Dr. Christian Gregory. I came here with a horrendous case of sciatica. I could barely walk at all. 14 hours of labor and c-section were a lot less painful. I had gone to another chiropractor for at least 5 treatments and left wanting to slit my own wrist after each and every visit. I told a friend about my situation and he said "go see Dr. Gregory" After only 2 visits, I had hope. 2 visits after that, I could walk with a cane. It was all up hill from there. In less than 10 visits, I was walking almost normal and could sleep without having my leg up the wall or with twenty thousand pillows between my legs.. Definitely go to him. I went to Dr Gregory for a second opinion after another Chiropractor had given me a diagnosis and a treatment that I was unsure about. I have done 4 sessions with him and my pain has almost gone.
