I've been an out-of-area customer for many years. I visit Baltimore for family reasons, once a year. I bring an insulated bag, so I can back-haul to New England, W&L's nitrate-free hotdogs. They are simply top-notch!! I've shared with a dear friend - not Jewish and a cordon bleu chef - who opined that the hotdogs were "excellent". For those, who grumble about "customer service" at W&L, be advised that you can't eat "customer service". Focus on the products, the quality of which is top-notch. For those, who keep kosher, there can be no doubts as to that at Wasserman and Lemberger. It is not simply a question of supervision: the Star-K is among the nation's most careful and diligent Kashrut supervisors. CUSTOMER SERVICE HORRIBLE I moved to this side of town and was looking for a good butcher. I I purchased two Ribeye Bone in dry aged steaks at 39.99 per pound. I was looking forward to going home and cooking it, BUT the male gentleman who cashed me out was very rude and unprofessional. While in the store in a pleasant tone I asked three questions. 1) if they sold bacon? He responded sarcastically by saying this is a Kosher store we don't sale pork. While checking out I asked 2) if they had a business card because I wanted to share this location with a friend. The same young man rudely stated no the number/ information is on the bag. Not wanting to assume anything negative and wanting to give this young man the benefit of the doubt, I asked 3)?what were the business hours to the store? He pointed to the front store window and stated "the hours are posted." Customer Service was horrible! He definitely made me think twice about giving them my business. I will not go to the extent to say he was racist but he surly did not make me feel welcomed as a customer. read more

The is the best kosher butcher ever!!! The meat is so fresh!! They sale things that no one els have!! I love this guys! I really do!! And its start from the little things like hotdogs - yhe hotdogs!! They have the best hotdogs - even better than in Israel! (and im from there :) They even have sweetbread!! A one of a kind, unique store in Baltimore. They make all kinds of sausages, pepperoni, salami, and Yekkishe cold cuts like aufschnitt, cervelat, landjager, liverwurst, and the like, items that are next to impossible to find kosher. Highly recommended. read more

I'm a vegetarian now, but I can still say that Wasserman & Lemberger has good quality meat, decent prices (for kosher food), and lots of selection. They make beef jerky and aufschnit, which are hard to find kosher. The only things that were off were that I went in their once and the floor had TONS of blood on it - EW! I know it's a butchers shop, but sheesh, they're not slaughtering the animals by the cash registers. Unfortunately, I've had friends who have gone in their wearing pants (these are women) who have said that the cashiers are unfriendly to them and gave them higher prices. read more

I'm not going back here. This was the second time I've bought turkey cold cuts and after 2 days they start to ooze this slimy substance that renders them unedible. This combined with the salami experience is forcing me elsewhere to buy meat. read more

My mother heard through the grapevine that this place makes "South African-style" biltong (jerky) and droewors (dried sausage). What a disappointment - the biltong was exactly like typical beef jerky - wet, oily, hard, and in no way anything like biltong which is dry, never cooked, and spiced with pepper, vinegar and coriander. The droewors likewise was oily, the flavor very un-South African, very salty, hard and full of whole pepper corns which you can only imagine break open when chewing the sausage. I decided the only good use for these products was to slice them into thin pieces and use them for doggie treats. Not having tried the store's other products, I can only imagine that there are lots of fine products but the store should be cautioned - their "South African-style" products are very UN-"South African". read more

This place is just great if you're a fan of "old-school" butcher shops, where your meat is cut & portioned to order - it's not a supermarket where most everything comes off a truck from a central factory. The owner makes everything from hot dogs, to salamis (spicy, garlic, and chorizo) beef jerky, biltoung (S. Africans know this dried beef well), aufschnitt (Swiss deli loaf), beef frye (bacon substitute) and more. If that's not enough to convince - two words should do the trick: KOSHER. PROSCIUTTO. Not pretty, not quiet, but it is, IMHO, probably the best place to buy strictly glatt kosher meats & deli between metro New York & South Florida. read more

Customer service is terrible. They were supposed to deliver Passover order in the afternoon several days before. It didn't arrive, and when I called, they said it wasn't ready. When I called later, they said I could pick it up, and when I said I don't drive and could not pick it up, they said they'd deliver it later that night. No one ever rang the doorbell. At 10:30 p.m., I opened the front door and the order was sitting on the front porch! They simply left it--never rang, never called. An animal could easily have gotten it, nor do I know how long it was sitting outside in less-than-freezing weather. This is typical of their customer service. They know they have cornered the market on kosher meats, so they think they can get away with anything--they just don't care. read more

The meats are top quality. It's easy to tell a Wasserman cut from a kosher supermarket cut, fresh, well-trimmed and packaged and the taste is full of excellent flavor and tenderness. BTW, the deli from here should be eaten fresh because they make it themselves and don't pack it full of preservatives like commercial deli. Around my house, it doesn't last long enough to go bad and if your deli lasts for a week or more in the fridge, maybe you should be wondering what' kind of chemicals are in it. read more

Incredible, incredible, experience. Our family was in transit, destination, Jacksonville Fl. from New Jersey. We stopped at some friends for the night in Baltimore. They mentioned this old world butcher shop. Man o'man, not to be missed. We stocked up on jerky, bratwurst, cold cuts, and 20lb's of homemade franks. What an feast. Caution, don't be a in a hurray, they slice and vacuum in front of you and all this takes some time. Can't wait to get back to load up. read more
