After being surprised by Josef's approximately $900 quote to replace the movement of the watch (a standard quartz movement that itself is available for sale online for ~$40) I took the watch to JR Dunn in Pompano--an authorized Tag dealer and repair shop, where Josef's is not--and was quoted less than $300 to have the entire job done, by Tag themselves, with a warranty. Shamelessly quoting 3x a certified dealer for the exact same job is outrageous.

High end watches are in demand, are highly competitive... it pays to look around if you want to buy or sell... there's a few good spots here. For gold jewelry, typically all they really care about is the karat type 14k, 18k, 24k etc. and the weight. They give you an offer on the spot and will pay you cash. I found the price varied somewhat so best to go to 2 or 3 spots. You get the hang of it quickly. I found the people I met here to be very nice and were respectful... not pushy. I saw people mostly buying items... jewelry, esp. diamonds. I believe there's also 2 other locations... Boynton and Aventura.

I brought my ring and its original pearl to this jeweler to have the pearl reattached. The pearl…read morewas not lost when I brought it in--it was in my possession and entrusted to them for repair. What makes this especially disappointing is that I had previously had this same ring repaired twice by a sister location of the company without any issues. On those occasions, the pearl only became loose after unusually rough activity, and I was always able to recover it. The age of the ring was never mentioned as a concern or potential issue during those repairs. Unfortunately, after this repair, the pearl was lost. This was also the first time I worked with a different location. Had the repair been properly completed, I believe the pearl should have remained securely attached. The pearl that was lost was not an inexpensive replacement pearl. It was a high-quality Tahitian pearl that I personally purchased in Tahiti approximately 26 years ago. It held tremendous sentimental value and remained in excellent condition, with no visible marks, indentations, or quality issues. Initially, I was told that the pearl would be replaced, which I appreciated. However, the replacement pearl I was ultimately offered was visibly lower quality, with noticeable marks and indentations, and did not come close to matching the appearance or quality of my original Tahitian pearl. Rather than being provided with a comparable replacement, I felt the focus became either accepting a poor-quality pearl or spending additional money to upgrade to a better one. I found this extremely frustrating because I was already dealing with the loss of my original pearl as a result of the repair. When I later expressed my concerns, I was told that the business does not replace pearls and that the age of my ring was the issue. I found that explanation difficult to accept. The pearl was not lost when I brought it in, and the ring's age had never been raised as a concern during prior repairs performed by the company's sister location. If the age of the ring was truly a concern, I would have expected that to be discussed before the repair was performed. I am deeply disappointed with both the quality of the repair and the way the situation was handled afterward. This ring has significant sentimental value, and I trusted this business with a piece that cannot simply be replaced. I expected accountability, professional workmanship, and a sincere effort to make things right. Unfortunately, that was not my experience. Based on what happened, I would strongly caution others against trusting this business with sentimental or irreplaceable jewelry. When an item carries both financial and emotional value, you need confidence that it will be handled with care and that the business will stand behind its work if something goes wrong. Unfortunately, I did not receive that level of service.
