Stopped in here with friends on the last morning of our girls trip. My friends got coffees and I got a smoothie. They were all so delicious and fresh. They are located in a large building with multiple shops and plenty of bathrooms and places to sit and chat. Very fun place to grab a snack, buy trinkets and gifts, and support local businesses. We stopped in here for breakfast and coffee before heading out of town on a recent trip - and it was a great spot. Really fun breakfast burrito options, and some tasty coffee to boot. Outdoor patio was pet-friendly, which was nice for our pups as well. Well worth visiting - this was a great coffee spot! Also open on Sundays, unlike some of the other area coffee options (Mundos in particular). read more

Waterbearer Coffee is such a great coffee experience. The staff was incredibly kind and welcoming, and the coffee itself was excellent. We tried the Mexican lattes, which featured flavors like cardamom, cinnamon, cayenne, and more -- perfectly balanced and flavorful without being overpowering. The interior has a cozy, thoughtfully designed vibe that makes it an inviting place to relax and enjoy your drink. Love their logo and merch - really nice aesthetics. My friend got a matcha latte and it way too sweet with barely had any matcha. I don't recommend. I got the latte with cardamom and it was tasty! It's a tad off the beaten path, more on the west side and inside a building containing several other businesses. The line was shorter than what you'd see on front street and the food options might have been a bit more plentiful as well -- rewards for walking 5 minutes farther. Apparently many coffee shops in Traverse City close on Sundays in the off season, but not Water Bearer Coffee! Which would explain why it was hoppin' on the Sunday afternoon we were there (the line was out the door!) but once we tried some of their beverages we also realized, the line was out the door because it was also GOOD. Really REALLY good. I went with a mocha (made with my beloved Grocer's Daughter chocolate), and my husband went with a latte. As we were finishing up ordering we also saw their smoothie menu and both opted for the Tutti Fruitti (strawberry, banana, cherry, coconut water). Both the coffee beverages and the smoothies were SO good. We had plans to eat at another spot a bit later so we didn't grab any food but the menu looks excellent. A nice casual option we bookmarked for our next visit so we wouldn't forget! The space is also very comfortable and welcoming. It's not huge but there's a good amount of seating and the decor, including the beautiful water mural inside, create a welcoming and relaxing atmosphere. The staff was really friendly, too. It would make a great casual spot to meet a friend for a bite or grab a coffee and catch up on some work. Before we left I went back to the counter (the line had thankfully died down) to pick up some coffee. My mom had requested I bring her a few bags of beans from up north so I picked out a couple for her and one for us. I don't recall them offhand but they were all single origin and the flavor notes on the bags were very accurate. And, not surprisingly, they have all been excellent. I hope they expand to whole sale throughout Michigan, I would love to buy their stuff even when I'm not up north. read more

There's always room for more great coffee spots in Northern Michigan and Water Bearer is a new favorite. Fantastic coffee, smoothies AND they use Grocer's Daughter chocolate in their mochas. Highly recommended if you need a good coffee fix. read more

Food was delicious!! We got the breakfast burrito and it was one of the best I've had. Only complaint- I like spicy stuff, trust me, but the Mexican coffee was spiced wayyy too much. We could not drink it after the first two sips, all I could taste was the cayenne. read more

Came to Water Bearer on a Sunday because there weren't a lot of places open and we kept that in mind while writing this review. Coffee took close to a whole hour to get to us. Even with being busier because of the Sunday rush that is an insane wait time. On top of the wait our orders were completely wrong. We ordered two hot lattes and received one iced with the flavorings completely mixed up. The staff that took our order was nice enough but everyone else looked like they were miserable. Preordered breakfast sandwiches this morning, along with 2 mochas. There's nowhere on the order system to say no sauce or no mayonnaise, so we called & spoke to a gal who said she'd make sure sandwiches were made without sauce. We also wrote No saucey sauce or Mayo in the text box. The egg sandwich had saucey sauce, of course. So our efforts to customize didn't work, no one followed through with our phone request. When they remade the sandwich, they must have used a knife with some mayo or sauce on it because a couple bites near the cut still had mayo taste. I hate mayonnaise. The saucey sauce laden egg sandwich was not edible. Water bearer uses Stockist coffee, which has a weird bite and aftertaste to it. We were so underwhelmed by the mochas, we dumped them and went to the other coffee shop in the building (far better drinks by a mile). Used to be when this was blk mkt, the lines were out the door, the drinks were stellar, food was incredible. Waterbearer is nowhere near the high quality of blk mkt. The juice/smoothie/coffee place in between blk mkt leaving and waterbearer moving in isn't even worth discussing, & they also used Stockist coffee. Here's the thing: go if you'd like, mayo & saucey sauce might be your jam, but it's dark & gloomy on the inside. They have no system in place to meet allergies or dislikes and their coffee has such a strong aftertaste you'll need a different coffee elsewhere to get through your day. read more

Service and ambiance- great. Food: ordered a miel latte and egg and cheese breakfast bagel. You can order it on toast or bagel. The bagel needs to be cut in half, lol. Hard to eat, but really good. I got the additions of pea shoots and avocado. The sauce had horseradish in it, I need a warning about things like that as I don't like horseradish. I def are the sandwich anyway... read more

This coffee shop is so sweet and funky, I love being there. The staff is always so friendly, and they are very knowledgeable about their coffee and food offerings. They always have DELICIOUS coffee and plenty of options for vegetarian/vegan diets. Love love love!! read more
