Received a generous gift card and booked an appt for a facial with Hillary. Callie - the receptionist- greeted me so nice and Hillary was waiting for me. She asked me about my skin and I settled into a warm comfy spa table. All the products and smells were lovely. I received a customized facial for 90 min. Time flew by! Besides the great facial, I received an incredible neck, shoulder, back and feet massage. I was a noodle when she was done. She explained everything she was doing and the environment was relaxing. Ok I gave this place 2 chances. The first time I went here I got waxing done, they charge more than the average place & the woman missed spots & didn't do a great job. Chance 2: made an appointment for a trim & was greeting by dirty looks from a woman with short dark hair that worked there. I felt completely uncomfortable the whole time I was getting my haircut. So there comes a time when a city dwelling gal just has to get away from it all. Even for the weekend; a breath of fresh air, just some time to get away from the city, the bay. :) Welcome to this salon and day spa. A true breath of fresh air for a girl like me. I was up in the area visiting one of my best gal pals and she booked us pedicures there for Saturday afternoon. Approaching the spa was like so calming and relaxing, I could almost smell the lavender and aromatherapy oils before I stepped out of the car. The place used to look like an old Victorian home or old bed and breakfast. Very quaint, pretty flowers everwhere, you get the idea. Stepped inside to a very quiet, relaxing environment. They had a little table with some chairs and a little loveseat for us to wait at. They only had one nail esthetician working that day, Melissa. Normally, I would've been upset over the lack of staff, but that day, I had nothing but time on my hands. While waiting I perused their retail products, they have Aveda and Bumble and Bumble products there. Along with Aveda makeup, they also have little cute handmade accessories there too. Finally time for my pedicure, Melissa, worked wonders on my feet. I had a cool washcloth saturated with the Aveda aromatherapy oil they chose that day, for me to inhale, put on my face, forehead, or neck. With the towel, a glass of cold lemon ice water, and someone giving me a pedi, all my stresses of "real life" were gone, gone, gone! The pedicure was nothing short of amazing, great selection of OPI, and Aveda foot pampering products. Melissa really devotes her time and energy into each client, and gives extra attention to detail. The pedicure was, I thought, a great deal at $35.00. That included a callus removal, and a salt scrub. They also have waxing, massages, hair, and makeup services. The ladies were beyond friendly, accomodating, and oh so sweet! I have already told my friend next time, we're spending the whole day here; manis/pedis/massages, the works! UPDATE: This review pertains to services provided by Marina, who has since moved out of Waterfall and now operates her own business, Aesthetics by Marina, also in Placerville. I first booked an appointment here for a Brazilian wax based on the review of another member that no longer appears to be on the site. If you took their recommendation, however, be ware! I have come here twice. The first was for a Brazilian wax that went terribly wrong. I used to go to Kintara but it just got too far away when I moved to Placerville. I was able to get a appointment within a week of calling Waterfalls and met with a very nice lady who I would highly recommend - but NOT for Brazilian waxing. She used the exact same type of wax on my entire area and I had to tell her to stop halfway through because of pain. The wax sealed itself to my skin and would not properly remove my hair. Every section was a rip-rip-rip as she slowly attempted to ease the air-tight seal between my skin and the wax in order to loosen enough to grab, which then ripped off in her hand in tiny pieces. She would then repeat. The process was slow and extremely painful. I have a high pain tolerance and knew this was not something I was going to stand for after the relative comfort of Kintara Day Spa or waxing at Byuti (both in Sacramento). She was very nice when I told her to stop and of course comped the service that day. She asked me back for another complimentary service and I took her on her offer of a free facial. I was extremely impressed! It was relaxing, i was comfortable, and my skin looked a THOUSAND times better within just a few days and stayed that way for several weeks. I will definitely go back for another facial - but NOT for a brazilian. read more

I used to love it there. It's a boutique style, clean & cute salon with a spa vibe. I connected with a hairstylist that was really talented & consistent. When coloring roots, she would pull the color all the way through. She would tell me that Waterfall liked to give their clients a complete look, and I would get a blowdry and quick styling to finish the appointment. I paid for cut, color, & highlights, $260-$280. That hairstylist is no longer with the company. I tried to get an appointment with Carol, but she is always booked far out. I ended up scheduling with one of the new ladies, and I told her that I wear my hair in a ponytail a lot, so if she could please make sure my hair looks the same up as it does down. The coloring was not carried through, and she stated that she had no time for blow drying. I got home, and when my hair finally dried, I put my hair in to a ponytail, and it was starkly different---original roots on the head portion, and a colored ponytail. I looked terrible. I had to keep my hair down until she could fit me in for a repair coloring. Then, she cancelled, and I had to reschedule it. The repair fixed the problem, and I left with a wet head again. The new lady charged $180 total, and after the 2 visits (original appt. + repair appt.) the color was not nearly as good of a job. I could also tell that she was more focused on her own timeline (wet head & not carrying the color through), and didn't want to sincerely provide good haircare for me as a client. When I pay high prices, I expect quality care. I give tips even if the job is bad, but I won't go back there again. Waterfall Salon needs to have a consistent approach and follow through for their clients. They need to schedule the correct amount of time so that the client who pays top dollar can get what pay for, and not get shuffled off with wet hair and half completed looks. read more

I wanted so much to love this place. This salon is adorable and the hair dressers are so sweet. The first time I came here was for a haircut. I was there for 2 hours and I was the only client being worked on by my hairdresser. I've never been anywhere that took so long but the girl was new and I thought the cut was nice so I decided to give them another shot. The next time I scheduled an appointment I wanted to go from my blonde ombre to just all over brunette. I was supposed to see Larissa this time because the girl I saw last time no longer worked there. The salon ended up calling to reschedule me because Larissa had something come up. So I went to another new person. When I got there she said she was not aware that I was getting an all over color and was working on another client. I was there for over 3 hours to get brunette hair color and a cut. Then came the cost. I looked at their website ahead of time but I guess I should have discussed it with the hairdresser. It was $150 PLUS a $30 tip I left (I leave a standard 20% pretty much no matter what because I didnt feel like she should be punished for the salon over booking or not communicating what I was getting done). She said not to wash my hair for 48 hours so the color wouldn't wash right out. So I didn't. By the 2nd time I washed it the color was already washing out. So I just spent $180 for a cut and a color that lasted about a week. I won't be back and I'm open to suggestions for other local salons! I'm happy to pay salon prices but I've never paid this kind of money for a single color, for 3 hours to get a single color, no styling, half a blow dry because it got too late since I was there so long, and color that did not last 2 washes. read more

I LOVE MY HAIR AGAIN. ....Both the haircut and the color, THANKS to MARISSA, one of the Stylist here. For a long time (before coming here) I had a love / hate relationship with my hair. I've always liked hairstyles that are very layered/ textured and above my shoulders. Many of the cuts and styles I ended up with just didn't seem to work well with my thick straight hair or the shape of my face. I also wasn't sure what color would compliment my complexion. I was really wondering if I would ever be really happy with my hair again. The shades that Marissa suggests are always right, being a warm medium shade and very shiny. (I like to change it up a little sometimes)She was also able to figure out the perfect cutting/ texturing technique for my hair which adds a nice amount of lift and makes it very easy to style every morning. No more frustration or wasted time. So I am excited to say, I truly do LOVE MY HAIR AGAIN. It really does make a difference in how I feel about myself, especially as I age. I used Waterfall when they first opened 25 years ago. At that time, Carolyn did my hair, and I was so impressed with her cuts! I moved away, but came back in 2011, and booked again. This time Christina was my stylist. She is so competent, warm, and easy to work with. I also had pedicures and facials, and was so pleased with the service. Now, I'm finally moving back again to retire. And, I'll be booking my appointments with Waterfall Salon & Spa. I am so impressed with the owner and her staff. They are always punctual. The facial was great! The woman that did the pedicure did a great job, but I found it odd, that that the salon did not provide her with a professional table, pedicure bath and an open location. I had my makeup and hair done here for my wedding. They also did my mom's hair in the same appt block. I wanted a messy bun which sounds easy but it never really is easy to get that perfect messy bun look. The girls were very personable the whole time and not me out of there only 10 mins late than my scheduled time which is not bad at all when it's a wedding day. All of my friends were welcome to hangout and relax. My mother and I were offered drinks when we arrived and throughout the appt. The last straw was when I was in the salon for a brow wax and she was rude and dismissive of me as her customer. I have never had them done before and I didn't really know what to say when she asked me how I wanted them to look, but she took the time to ask many questions so she could fully understand what would make me happy. Started going to Waterfall some years back after bouncing around from Placerville/Cameron Park salon to salon for the better part of a decade after moving here in 2000. Carol Lynn really gets hair. Especially my crazy hair. She knows how to listen and then works her professional magic. She is great all with all types of hair, as are the other stylists at Waterfall, whether you need a good cut, maintenance, and/or color. My husband sees Kelly for eyebrows, ears, and nose hair. At 70 he is still looking youthful, and I love her facials. Additionally, with a massage therapist and a mani/pedi specialist, it is a lovely spot for a spa day. I especially love that it is an Aveda salon and offers a good supply of wonderfully scented Aveda products! If you haven't tried Waterfall yet, it is about time. Additionally, Waterfall is an Aveda Salon, so every service is imbued with high quality and nature-based products we expect from Aveda. I have been to this salon a few times for pedicures and recently I went in for a manicure. I had a manicure with another salon using a gel product and I was wanting to have the gel removed. Even though Melissa wasn't the one who did the original manicure, she went above and beyond in removing the gel product. She was patient and I never felt like the process, which was lengthy, was a bother to her. The pedicures I have received from Melissa have always been wonderful, she gives you a lot of time and you will never feel rushed. My experiences are Waterfall have always been relaxing. Waterfall is wonderful! I have very curly hair and my friend recommended Christina. I've been getting the Coppola treatment here for the last year and a half and LOVE it!! The products are all great, and I feel like I'm being good to my hair despite coloring and the keratin treatments. It's a nice atmosphere and convenient location with lots of parking.
