We came here for lunch during a day of paddling the Charles, on the suggestion of the rental company, and were really glad we did! As other reviewers have mentioned, it was initially a little confusing as to where to go once we came in the door, but once we found the bar it was all good. Great selection of tap beers and tasty sandwiches. The fries were awesome, crisp and seasoned with fried herbs. The bartender was great. Prices were a little on the high side but the quality was there, so no complaints. We'll definitely return next time we paddle by. read more

The worst experience ever. Had reservations for 20 and our party was split up. We arrived at 12:15 and had to wait for other people in the restaurant to order because they didn't have enough menus! Wouldn't you think they would have enough menus for as many seats?? Only 2 waitresses for the entire restaurant and they also were tending the bar. People in our party were still waiting to get their food at 2:00pm unacceptable! It was cold when it finally arrived. Some guests were so frustrated that they left. The renovations look nice, but the service is really, inexplicably slow. We went midday during the week. There were only two other tables filled and we waited over 45 minutes for food. We did not have a complicated order and almost left which we have never done. The waitress was nice, but kept telling the two tables that there was only 2 people working, which is why everything was taking so long. Unfortunately, this can't be an excuse. If you are not staffed to handle a very, very slow crowd- why are you open? My advice- go to the Corrib. read more

Lighting is so bright you'll need shades. Like a heat lamp. Bartender woman was slow as molasses. Plus she wiped her nose on her sleeve !! Wtf??!! Wow. Completely renovated and really nice space. We were super impressed. Reminds me of much nicer gastropubs nearby, and Dedham needed it! The food was comfort, unique, and very fresh. They have only been open a few days but most people were very friendly and accommodating despite some obvious hiccups. The AC was not working when we were there. The function room upstairs appeared nicely done. We peeked in as walked in to the bar area. I liked the way the bar room is separated from the dining room. It added to the overall vibe of the restaurant. The bar area was packed when we walked in and the dining room was fairly busy too. I hope this place lasts, it seems like they upgrades have been worth it. read more

This is just an average Irish pub with average quality drinks and foods. Salmon was good but green beans and spinach was over cooked. Tomatos in the chicken quesadillas were old and didn't taste fresh at all. I will be back for drinks and apps only. read more

We ate here when it was Olde Irish Ale House and they haven't changed the décor or ambiance. I followed fellow yelpians advice and stuck to the Irish specialties for our dinner on a weekday night. I had corned beef and cabbage, hubby had chicken pot pie. My corned beef was a generous serving of what you'd expect, with the added addition of lots of the cooking water. This kept everything moist and added flavor. The chicken pot pie was homemade cubes of chicken in a white sauce with vegetables, topped by puff pastry. It was excellent! We stopped there last night - Saturday night, only 6 people at the bar. It smelled really bad - very musty, almost with a hint of bleach. The bartender was in heavy conversation with a waiter and waitress so we sat down and waited. And waited, and waited, and she never never looked our way. The waiter left the conversation but the bartender and waitress just talked and talked. You would think the waitress would have said to the bartender- hey, there's a customer, but it didn't happened. We got up and walked out. We went down to The Corrib where Mike the bartender is friendly, the food was fantastic and no bad smells! My husband and I are here from out of town and had dinner at Waterfords tonight. The wait staff is friendly but the food we ordered was not good. How do you mess up a lobster roll and fried chicken? The fried chicken tasted old and was soggy. The lobster itself was good but was mixed in a gloppy mess of very salty sauce of some kind which killed the whole thing. Haven't had a bad time here! Whether stopping by after work for apps and drinks, watching a game, or going out for a relaxing casual dinner with my girlfriend (who also enjoys it here). Prices are very manageable, with a good Irish Pub menu. Beer choices are good with the best being the $3 pint of the "waterfords beer" (I'm not picky with my beer). Few of my favorite and go to foods are; Irish Breakfast Burger, Shepherd's Pie, and of course combo apps. Only reason not a straight 5 star, would be they can be a little slow with service (sometimes there are not many working though) HOWEVER, the workers are awesome, very friendly and welcoming to all, bartenders are great to talk to and check in regularly to see if you need anything. Overall good spot! It's exactly what you need if you just want to get out off the couch, or don't want to cook at home, or just have a few drinks. read more

Last week I threw my Mom an 80th birthday party in Waterford's upstairs function room. The room was beautiful and Lorraine our server/bartender was amazing! She could not have been warmer or more helpful. The food was good (not amazing, but pretty good function fare) and they allowed me to bring in our own cupcakes which was great since many places do not allow it. It had plenty of parking and was handicap accessible which was important with elderly guests. Throughout the planning process Maureen the function manager promptly answered all my (many) questions and was so helpful and flexible. My Mom had a wonderful time and I got so many compliments on the party and on finding a venue that was so pretty and convenient to everyone. read more

The owners did nice job on the renovations of this landmark redesign of space is very functional for overlooking the Charles River or dinner by the Fireplace ordered the Chicken wing appetizers and able to have the order in all varieties offered. Visited Waterford's tonight with 10 family members for Mom's 86th birthday. We had a wonderful time, the food was so good, everyone loved their meals and there really was something on the menu for everyone. The prices were very reasonable. Our server was so nice, professional, and really perfect in every way. We will definitely go back and will recommend to everyone. I have been to waterfords for various events in their upstairs room. Each time, the event has been flawless. Their food is delicious and their staff is attentive. The location is convenient-right by the exit for 128. Their prices are competitive with area function rooms but I believe you get more from waterfords when comparing food, prices, and service. read more

The name change did not improve anything I'm afraid. The interior has been updated and looked new (extensive renovations were supposedly done) but the dining area has been segregated from the bar to such an extent that you are not really in the establishment. The entrance area was unoccupied so we had to go looking for assistance when we arrived. We were met up further into the place by a rather surly looking man who, when we said we wanted the dining room, grabbed a few menus and said "I guess you'll be needing these then". The menu looked OK. The food we had wasn't too bad. The staff looked like they had come in off the street and our server, while nice, didn't have a good idea of what was on the menu or how it was prepared. The drinks we asked about were not stocked. We were offered a suitable alternative and, when we asked for refills, we were told we had ordered the only ones they had. The desserts were foreign to our server as she described them vs. what we ended up receiving. Even though the signage now says "Waterfords Restaurant & Pub", our bill was still on "Olde Irish Alehouse" letterhead. The place wasn't much worth it before the name change and the renovations and other changes did not help at all. The kitchen is upstairs and eventually one of the servers will fall down those stairs carrying orders. read more

Ok so I went to Waterfords last night with my wife. It has a nice feel. If any of you are familiar with the Olde Irish Alehouse it is not like that at all. This is now a nice, semi upscale bar. Not a dive anymore by any means. The menu has some nice dishes, most on the pricey side. We did not eat a main course so I cannot comment on that, what we did order was the wings (dry rub) which were excellent and I would recommend them any day, 8 big wings for 9$, we also got the fries with curry which again was excellent. The fries have a little bit of the skin on them still and were done perfect and the curry was nice, not the powdered stuff the Ale House used, that came to 7$. Last I order the "classic cheeseburger" this is why the review gets 3 stars. I saw a waiter carrying a burger and fries to a table and it looked awesome so I figured the classic burger would be just the burger, no fries, this was 8$ off the "bar snacks" menu, the burger off the regular menu was 12$ which looked as if it came with a good portion of fries. I ordered it and when it came out I was disappointed to say the least. It was a burger you get from BJ's down the street. It was thin and on a crap bun. The regular menu burger looked like it would be awesome. I felt for 8$ I was ripped off. Other than that it was good and I will go back there again. I won't order the "classic burger" I would rather get fries or the regular menu burger but I would try other things, plus this place is just getting started. Bud lights were 3$ draft which was fair and the bar tender was a friendly lady who always made sure we had drinks. Had a function here this past weekend. Food was good, however paying over 500 dollars and being rushed out in a little over an hour with no leftovers packaged up to take home had us a bit annoyed. The waitress informed us by law if food sits out for two hours they can't allow the customer to take it with them. I understand that however we had all arrived at 1145, and they were rushing to take the table cloths off by 1230. Everyone was home by 130! After contacting the owner, she had said she was "livid" at her staff for not packing the leftovers and that they were told to inform me they had another party coming in. Sorry, but again, paying over $500 to feel rushed because they decided to double book a function room? If you want good food, sure it was good. BUT if you want the staff to be taking off table cloths while your company just ordered another round of drinks, or you want the waitress to rush over to start cutting the cake when you had just sat down with your food- this is the place for you!! If I had known they planned to rush our party out, we would have absolutely looked elsewhere. The owner had offered to send us a gift card. After thinking about it, I wouldn't even go back even with the meal on them. Especially after she made it out like she was doing us a favor with 20 people when min is 25! She never told me that when booking but throws it in my face now?? Every other restaurant we contacted told us right way 20 wasn't enough. Owner wasn't present at our event so if booking here, MAKE SURE SHE IS! Although she was the one double booking and the one who threw it in my face after the fact that it's 25 person min. She should have been honest from the beginning. She also tried telling me our party showed up an hour late, mass is an hour long and we were coming from the town over. I had told her we would be arriving between 1130 and 12. We will not be back after our horrific customer service experience. read more

Came here with my wife and kids on a Tuesday afternoon , not that busy. Waited 15 minutes for a waitress to greet us. The food took over 35/40 minutes to arrive. The new renovated bar is beautiful but the bartender kathy has to go she was rude and came off as a know it all...she was spending more time with what seemed like someone she knew and was ignoring me and my boyfriend. Suddenly annoyed I went and sat at a table. We had Lorraine. She was nice but whenever we needed something shed go missing and then come back smelling like smoke. I Hosted my best friend's bridal shower in the upstairs function room and it was a great venue! The room is bright and fresh and modern, good vibe! Easy to decorate and love that it had a private bar and an awesome bartender (thank you Kathy!) very laid back, food was good, not great but pretty good and they ran out of some items on buffet and people had to wait for a few minutes while it was replenished. I went there alone at 8pm on a Friday night. There was one couple in the dining area. I went to the bar side. People were at the bar, but only 2 parties seated at the tables. The service was extremely slow. I took about 30 minutes to get my drink, a cosmopolitan, which was too sweet. My food was brought by a kitchen worker and the waitress never came by to check if everything was alright. The fries were not hot and there was no salt on the table. My food probably sat in the kitchen before it was brought to me. These people need to get their act together if they want to stay in business. read more

Maybe 3.5 category, but...I've eaten here twice in the bar area (typically my dining preference, though I must say the dining room does look quite bright), and both experiences were rather pleasant. Certainly more ambition on the menu than the prior incarnation...perhaps reflected in the prices (dinner entrees around $20). Having had a few meals in the old place, it must be said that it was (or had become) purely a drinking establishment. Don't know if renovation results have irked the regulars, but the bar area still has a good, casual feel, and plenty of tvs to enjoy some sports (and, yes, can get a bit noisy...but hey, that's what the dining room is for, right?). After a shepherd's pie and short rib quesadillas, I'm gonna say it's worth it to check this place out. I found the staff was competent and, more importantly, extremely pleasant. Oh, and they have Fullers London Pride on draft, which was well received on my part. (Props to the clam chowder description on their menu!) read more

The menu is varied and the food well prepared. A nice beer selection (e.g., Lagunitas IPA on draught). The service is friendly and attentive. And the tables by the river have a pleasant, peaceful view. I can't see what more one could want from a restaurant. We live nearby in West Roxbury and this is one of our favorite places. read more

Had a reservation on mothers day for 3 people @ 12:30. Water was brought to table, asked for lemon. Waitress retuned to take order, no lemons. The order 2 fish and chips and 1 fried clams. At 1:30 food finally arrived-1 order fish and chips, 1 fried clams, and 3 pancakes, after an additional 20 minutes the order of fish and chips arrived.no apology no offer of any remedy, restaurant was not crowded so no excuse. I hosted a Bridal Shower in their new function room. It was beautiful and the food was good. I ordered Chicken Broccoli Ziti, Meatballs and Cheese tortellini. It also offered a full deli platter with condiments and rolls. The function coordinator, Maureen was phenomenal and was able to take care of any needs that I had. She was also the bartender for the event and made amazing afternoon cocktails that included Mimosa's and Bloody Mary's in addition to any requested drinks. The venue also offered an elevator for two of the guests that required it. Afterwards some of us went to the bar area seating. Although there was a beautiful view of the Charles River, it felt like a hundred degrees because their AC didn't work. We also did not have a server assigned for about 30 minutes so I ordered drinks from the bar which took 20 minutes. The restaurant was barely half full and the manager walked around completely oblivious to the fact that the bar was so far behind. I took a look at the menu and wanted to order a sampler platter or a few small appetizers that the rest of us could share but they did not offer anything like that. The "pizza" that was on flatbread was the worst tasting pizza I've ever had. Overall I would rate this place a 5 on their function room and a 1 on their restaurant. Regardless of how nice a place looks, it is only as good as the service that you receive. I will most likely never visit their establishment again, however I highly recommend it for a function. read more
