My colleague and I decided to try this restaurant after it was recommended by our hotel and mentioned as a local favorite. It definitely lived up to the recommendation. We arrived during the dinner rush and were lucky to get one of the last available tables. Despite how busy it was, we were seated quickly, and our server immediately went over the dinner specials with us. We started with the fried calamari, which was decent--nothing extraordinary, but still enjoyable. For our main dishes, I ordered the pistachio‑crusted haddock with grilled vegetables, while my colleague chose the fajitas. The dinner special was the highlight for me: the haddock was incredibly fresh, cooked perfectly, and wonderfully moist with a delicate, flaky texture. I loved it. My colleague said the fajitas were fine, though not particularly memorable for his taste. Service throughout the evening was excellent, especially considering the crowd. Ordered the king cut prime rib They do it differently here searing the surfaces. Looks more like steak . It was very good and medium as ordered. No au jus or dipping sauce provided? Really loving this place; excellent service, good food, standard fare recipes but executed really well!!! Walking in you're immediately placed in a different acoustic environs, more muted despite being a full crowd at 6p, perhaps due to the wood paneling or the carpeting. Definitely has some sort of old-school vibe to the restaurant. The menu is extensive, with many different selections in the appetizers and the mains sections, with an extensive specials menu. The beet salad with chicken was primarily functional, to provide greens, but it did have a really nice mix of greens and beets, and the chicken was grilled well. The breading on the calamari left a little to be desired, as it mostly fell off the calamari and wasn't crispy enough. It was cool however that they brought both a ranch-like dip and a marinara sauce, which interestingly had pickled jalapenos inside. The lamb lollipop special with a center of lobster risotto was decent; the lamb was not overcooked and the seasoning was quite delicious, if not entirely complex. The flavoring on the risotto definitely could have used some work, perhaps less cheese and butter and more of an herb flavor. I was really happy with the cook on the lamb though. The haddock came with "seasoned crumbs, bacon, tomatoes, scallions, cheddar & jack cheese"; sounds rich, but was a nice broiled meal. The balance on the flavors worked really well, and the fish itself was quite fresh. The sides (on this day, elected for rice pilaf and squash) could have used a bit more seasoning, and perhaps more interesting seasonings. Restaurant diners were treated to a one-man band (vocals, playing a drum machine, and also backgrounded with an instrumental track) sometime later in the evening; he was excellent and was a fun act to listen to and to watch! read more

When you walk in, it is like entering a 70's lounge in the best possible way! The drinks are generous. Stuff clams were perfect- not overly spiced or bread like- fluffy with lots of clams- cooked to a crisp drizzled with a buffalo like sauce. We had a crock of the fish chowder- which was creamy and chocked full of fish. Then we shared the Kings cut Prime Rib- cooked perfectly med-rare. It came with 2 sides; we opted for the mashed red bliss potatoes and vegetable of the day cooked baby carrots. It was a great cut! Instead of the desserts, that all look tasty, but we decided on a hot chocolate with butterscotch schnapps and whipped cream. Delicious and perfect way to end a meal! Perfect town bar and restaurant, they featured Daly specials along with lunch menu. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable very informative and attentive ! It came with two slabs of tasteless grilled meatloaf, a side of thick and lumpy onion gravy, terrible mashed potatoes and brussel sprouts that were water logged and soggy. I'm not from the area; was in town watching the marathon and needed a bite to eat. This place is a total boomer bar. You know, the kind that even sells keno AT the bar. As soon as you enter, you're practically belly up to the massive center bar. As two thirty-something's, it felt like the whole room stopped and wondered why we were there. Yikes. Nevertheless, we were seated at a booth by a nice hostess. Unfortunately, that's about all the niceties I've got. I ordered a pulled pork sandwich, but when my order arrived it was a pulled pork burger (as in, pulled pork on top of a burger patty). Way too much food for me, so I flagged the waiter down and asked for the pulled pork sandwich. He insisted that the burger is what I asked for; they don't have a pulled pork sandwich on the menu. I was skeptical (I remembered seeing it pretty clearly), but I said ok can I just grab another menu? He said ok and left, and very shortly afterward came back and apologized that they do have a pulled pork sandwich. When the correct sandwich finally arrived, I'm not kidding when I say this was the least appetizing pulled pork I've ever seen-- complete mush. Also, there was cheese on top, so I think they just removed the burger patty and gave it back to me. I ate about half of it and gave up. No discount on check. Seems my experience is not typical of other reviewers, but worth writing. I would not come back if you paid me. read more

I was taken to the Midway for dinner last night & unexpectedly loved it! The menu has a wide variety of homey foods & all at very fair prices for being in the Boston area. We were seated immediately around 7:15, however, the place was packed! Understandably, it was a Thursday night & a DJ set up in the corner. The Midway is definitely home to a good collection of regulars & first comers, which made the atmosphere even better. In terms of the food, the portions are excellent. I, personally, ordered a Chicken Club and it was exactly as expected. Let me tell you, the fries here are incredible. I can't wait to go back and try more menu items! read more

Known for their Meatloaf for years, it has expanded to seafood and unique dishes on the right day. Staff is always friendly but the prices have been creeping up for years. Live entertainment on Friday night and Saturdays their is always something, music, trivia, etc...... Drinks have gotten smaller of the years, sizewise but not the price. My family is split between NH and RI and occasionally we meet somewhere in the middle for birthday celebrations. Today we chose the aptly named "Midway Restaurant" in Dedham. We were warmly greeted and given adjacent booths so there was plenty of room for our party of 5 plus presents. As first time diners our waitress gave us the run down of specials and house favorites, and one of the owners even stopped by our table to welcome us. Their menu literally has something for everyone. We had fried whole belly clams; shrimp, broccoli and pasta; homemade meatloaf; candied walnut and grilled chicken salad; and steak tips. Portions were large and delicious, and extra dressing, gravy, etc. were all delivered with a smile. At the end of the meal we pulled a birthday cake we had brought from home and the waitress not only brought us plates, but had secretly asked the other guests to join in on the "happy birthday" song. Plenty of other places we've been welcome outside cakes with an eye roll and a plate charge. I can happily say my family has found our new "midway" gathering spot! read more

This is a wonderful old fashioned bar and grill. The people are friendly, the food is very good, great prices. The specials are usually good choices. Recently I had their chicken and sausage cacciatore, which was huge, flavorful and warming. Nothing fancy, but really fresh and flavorful. The club sandwiches are great, and their classic rump steak (not common these days, but a very tasty cut!) is dynamite! It can be crowded (not at all surprising, considering the quality and the prices) and sometimes I have picked up my credit card, and simply paid cash, as opposed of waiting for credit card processing (yes, it can be THAT busy). I had their Egg Plant Parmesan last night and it was outstanding-delicious. The best I've had in 20 years of living in Dedham. Egg plant and paste were cooked el dente, and the marinara sauce had great tomato taste. Also it was a large portion which I appreciated. Great work Chef and staff. read more

We ordered a Black & Burger without Jack Sauce - it has Jack sauce on it. We also ordered chicken broccoli ziti - it arrives as shrimp, broccoli ziti. It was supposed to have a side salad with creamy peppercorn dressing - a Greek salad is what we got. We ordered a cheddar burger - it arrives as a chicken parmigiana sandwich. Last week I had the most delicious meal again! This time I got 1 1/4 lb boiled lobster with fries and it was cooked perfectly!

Even though I live pretty close to this place, I always seem to forget about it. One of my mother's friends father died in the parking lot about twenty years ago, so that could be another reason I seem to forget. Regardless, I saw it recently on the Phantom Gourmet, and figured I'd give it a shot since I can't even remember the last time I was here. While it's small and can be a congested mess at the front, they have great food and great service. While I do believe there is room for improvement in terms of organization and the setup of the inside, I was very pleased with my meal here. The prices are great... far lower than any other competition I can think of. I also believe the service is very accurate and efficient. As aforementioned, I was not so happy with the congestion of the interior. It seems you always need to push your chair in for people to get by and it seems like even for reservations there can be a wait (which defeats the purpose of making a reservation in the first place). I think they should reconfigure the bar so that it doesn't take up so much floor space so people can actually walk through the restaurant. The parking lot should also be repaired as there are numerous depressed sewers and potholes throughout. These are certainly hazards for customers. All in all, I would certainly come back to this restaurant and certainly would suggest it to others; I would certainly like the space inside to be larger and more user-friendly all around (which I'm sure is a shared goal). What a surprise! I was driving by and noticed the cute cow on the sign and how old the restaurant was and had to try it. Everything was so good and such a good deal! The house specialty seems to be the beef dishes, so we got the beef fajitas and it was really really good! A huge pile of rare meat, nice cooked veggies and all the fixings. My grandma got stuffed peppers and loved it, they were massive too, enough for 4 dinners for her. I also got the jack Daniels chicken sandwich, which was really flavorful and big. The fries were so crispy and fresh too. Every entre was under 10$, almost too good a deal! The staff was super friendly and helpful too. I'll certainly be back. Been back.
