My friend and I came here for a quick lunch today hoping for a relaxed meal with a view of the water. We have visited this establishment before and have enjoyed the food here, which is a little above average. When I received my lasagna, I found white fuzzy MOLD on top of the cheese. I returned my plate to the folks at the front. A younger girl and the Asian man at the cash register as well as my friend witnessed the mold on my food. A Korean lady came to take a look and insisted that what I was seeing was not mold. She said that what I was actually seeing was just the color of the cheese on the lasagna. She proceeded to peel off the corner of the lasagna, with the mold on it, and she ate it! She concluded that I was wrong, because she couldn't taste the mold? After this bizarre exchange, she told me that even though there was nothing wrong with my food, she would do me a favor and give me a replacement plate. I honestly would not have written this review if this lady just replaced my lasagna, instead, she was telling me that I was either lying or blind. I love this place! I usually order the brown rice box with bulgogi beef and it was delicious. I've also tried the East Meet West wrap with beef and I couldn't be happier. I will come back for the Kim Chi burrito next time because I heard it tastes really good as well. The people working there are really nice. So, why 4 stars? The first time I ordered the East Meet West wrap, it was cut in half and I could eat the first half and finish the second later (it was quite big). Beef was generously given too. And just today, I came in to order the wrap again for the second time and it wasn't cut in half... because it was smaller than the first time that I ordered. There wasn't much beef either. Let's say I'm slightly disappointed this time because I came back for the wrap and the portion size was changed. I have not gone to their location, but we have consistently used their catering services within Alameda. They are satisfying sandwiches, cookies and typical drinks and chips orders. Very nice presentation with sturdy professional plates and accessories that they deliver and pick up later in the afternoon. The staff I met are very nice too. They lose a star based on that sometimes they can be up to 15 -20 minutes late for delivery time. Other times they have also been right on time 15-20 minutes early. Just good to be aware of for ordering for starving clients. I would definitely recommend them and their new mini tarts are great. read more

The man at the counter (I think he was the owner) was really cheerful and happy to place our order. I ordered the tuna melt and the pasta hot plate. Honestly, I wasn't expecting too much from the orders (after all, it's standard American fare), but I was pleasantly surprised. I love the fresh, high-quality, wide-selection of food offered at this family owned spot. While some other reviews consider the food to be a little overpriced, I do not ($5.95 for a turkey burger with eggplant, Swiss, and $4.95 for a small spicy pork burrito seem fair to me). Overall, I guess if you are paying above the $5.95 price point for a sandwich here, it is worth it because it is tasty fresh food! I go here often for lunch and while you do have a 10-15 min wait at the height of noon, it is worth it. The only suggestion I have for them is to perhaps take orders by name. I'm lucky enough to work near this lovely deli and it is a place I keep going back to time and time again! The owners are so polite and friendly; I never have a bad encounter. The food is also fresh and made with care. The East Meets West sandwich is my favorite, but I also enjoy the Asian Salad, the Turkey Chili, and the Turkey Cranberry Sandwich. The chicken plate with brown rice is great for the days when I'm being healthy! It's great to have a locally owned place with a variety of healthy options available to meet everyone's taste. Everything is made or cooked fresh, they will even make you fresh coffee late in the afternoon should you need it (even though they still have some left from earlier in the day). And if you sit outside they deliver it on a silver platter which is funny, since its served on paper plates. Variety of food is great from burritos and sandwiches to salmon dishes, pastas, salads galore and home made cookies, all very good. They use quality ingredients like Semi Freddies bread for their sandwiches, and don't skimp on anything. Breakfast is YUM and of course, with a view. Beats the crowded greasy diners in Alameda all day long. The boat and yachting crowd hangs out here with their dogs which makes it feel kinda small town East Coast and laid back- I think I already mentioned Cape Cod. This place has a gorgeous view of the water! It's a great place to take a friend to have lunch. Food isn't mind blowingly good but it's decent. I tried the turkey bacon avocado sandwich and it was really delicious! I've also tried the kimchi fried rice and bulgogi burrito they had but those were just okay at best. The hot chocolate is actually my favorite thing here! It reminds me of a home styled hot chocolate which I really enjoyed.
