As my fiancé and I walked around downtown Alameda in and out of the adorable little shops, I became rather thirsty, and I came across great music coming out of this particular shop! As I walked into maybe get a little snack, they had fresh juice that was in their machines, looping around! I love the vibrant colors and feel of this restaurant, and the music matched it perfectly!! First discovered Cholita Linda about 15 years ago at the Old Oakland Farmer's Market with their popular Baja fish tacos. They have since opened a number of brick-and-mortar locations in Berkeley, Oakland, Alameda and now the Embarcadero - SF First time at the Alameda location with great ambiance and fun, festive decor that transports you away. Place is casual dining and mostly self service: order at the counter and food brought to your table. Station for utensils, napkins and water. The Baja fish tacos are nicely crisp with a slaw and still the draw for me. Also, ordered a beef taco and will skip next time as it was meh... agua frescas are good, not overly sweet and delicious. Cholita Linda is my go to for fish tacos. There are 3 in the Bay Area locations that I have tried. On Park Street, Telegraph & in Berkeley. I had dinner here and it was very good. The fish was crispy, the platanos were sweet and the black beans and white rice were good. I enjoyed the salad and the meal overall. I usually get the fish tacos, but this time I went for the pescado frito, fried fish plate. I will be back soon and will likely get the fish tacos because those are my favorite! I was in the area and felt like getting a drink, so I ordered the strawberry agua fresca. It has increased from what it used to be at Cholita Linda, but compared to drink prices nowadays it's not bad. It took them less than a minute to dispense and hand me the drink. It's acidic in a way that almost reminds me of lemonade, but I like it since it really evokes the flavor of real fresh strawberries and not artificially sweetened strawberry flavor. Whenever I'm in Alameda, I stop here for the Baja Fish tacos. The ingredients are fresh, the fish is perfectly battered and fried, and the taco is well prepared overall. The service is always very good and the restaurant is clean and bright. You can opt to sit at a bar against the front window, tables inside, or a few small tables on the sidewalk. Fish is NOT what you want here. If you THINK you DO - buy one and try it first. Try the chicken too. The chicken tacos are far more flavorful than the fish ones. They are bursting with favor and spicy!!! The fish tacos are loaded with a large chunk of fried fish, however, it's basically 100% flavorless. They need much more salt and flavor and the fish ended up soggy from the sauce on it. I didn't enjoy them much. They actually went to the trash can after eating just one. A total waste of $10. You're going to have to either split up your party or hover around until a table fully opens up during peak hours. I will say turn over rate is good so the wait may not be that long, but definitely awkward having to feel like you're rushing people. Food on the other hand was delicious. Ordered a Carne Asada and Al Pastor taco and both were good. The Al Pastor however is chicken but it was soft and tasted more like Lengua than chicken itself. I would recommend getting that over the Carne Asada. In terms of size they are fairly generous with their toppings versus meat. If you like your veggies these tacos are great, but if you're a meat eater these may feel skimpy to you. For me personally it was perfect. Loved my Cubano sandwich today - tasty food, bright space and excellent customer service. In an effort not to get too stuck in going only to the same handful of familiar restaurants I was on foot today on Park Street and noticed somebody sitting in the window enjoying some food. I mean this guy was really enjoying and savoring every bite. I walk in and ordering couldn't have been quicker. And I like the method where you pay before you sit down as that is all time that is usually wasted when you have a formal server - this was all super streamlined perfect for people who value time or who are on a limited time lunch break. My sandwich came with the pulled pork shoulder, black forest ham, mustard, pickles, aioli, swiss cheese - and was on a grilled French bread. First impressions were great as the whole sandwich was warm and toasty. The pork shoulder flavor worked very well with the black forest ham and I loved how the sandwich didn't fall apart as I ate it. It was expertly crafted. Also notable was the real Mexican coke. I think it was very low in price compared to other places. I think El Gordo charges almost double the price? not sure, but I do get Mexican Coke whenever its offered and am used to paying much much more. I loved sitting at the bar and having a view of Park St. There was a guy sort of medicated and he was rocking back and forth and dancing just outside the window. Then beyond that there was a twin sized pull out love seat somebody just dumped in the street. I remember as I kid when Alameda was more exclusive - today it really does look like just about any other city in the bay. Overall, I loved the whole experience. The big bright bay window was a big highlight. Just behind me was an artificial bird of paradise flower that looked so real I had to closely inspect it for authenticity. In cases like these where it looks so real and is dust free it does nothing except enhance the atmosphere. What the rest of the restaurant looked like specifically I couldn't even tell you. I know it was big and bright and cheerful and some pleasant upbeat music in the background... but I was mostly just enjoying the view and my sandwich. And I'm sure was on display for many others walking by noticing me just as I had the other guy earlier. read more

Parking is honestly really hard around here regardless of time and day. But if you look around the side streets, you'll usually find some. I've been going to Cholita Lindas since they were only a stand at the farmers market in Oakland and they have been consistently good. I can't believe I haven't done a review for them yet. They have something for everyone. My gf and I have had nothing but steak for the past 5 days and she wanted something tofu and she wanted tacos. Why not have the best of both worlds? This is the only place I recommend their tofu tacos. They're just as delicious as the ones with meat which shows that they serve the community with everyone in mind. My personal favorite is their fish tacos. Honestly, these are the best fish tacos I've had. This doesn't mean the rest of their stuff isn't good. You need to try everything. PERSONALLY I like the location in Oakland a little more, call it nostalgia. But parking and taste wise, not much of a difference, all delicious. There is just the right amount of roast beef and the caramelized onions provides the right amount of contrast and crunch the sandwich needs.
