Hidden Gem Alert!! I was in the area recently and wanted to find a good local spot. The Saint Sandwich Shop came highly recommended on Yelp, and it did not disappoint. I love the restaurant's retro decor and feel. It even has an 80's-style arcade game. The employees were friendly and welcoming. They use ACME bread! I tried their Bird sandwich, which consisted of turkey, bacon, avocado, jack cheese, shredded lettuce, tomatoes, mayo on a rustic ACME sweet roll. I opted out of the mustard. Delicious with a generous amount of turkey! The bread was fresh, soft, with a crispy crust. Definitely one of the best sandwiches I've had in a while! We also tried the vegan Saint Francis sandwich on Udi's gluten-free bread, which was a standout and nice to see they had this option on the menu. It featured plant-based salami and prosciutto with vegan cheddar, a refreshing change from the typical "meat-free" options. Most sandwich shops simply remove the meat from a regular sandwich, so it was great to see a full-flavored vegan option with plant-based proteins. Parking is easy with two spots directly in front of the shop and several more across the street. It's a convenient and simple location to find. If you're in the area, be sure to give them a try...you won't be disappointed!

Wooweee. A little gem nearby me Friendly workers and such a cute little shop! They have outdoor seating and some tables inside with a higher bar seating along one of the walls. I got the Beast- the roast beef was tasty, veggies were tasty and bread was crunchy. very very filling! I also got the pasta salad- it was good with a little kick! Looks like there is a restroom in the back. Street parking and neighborhood parking so fret not.

I usually never write about sandwich shops, because they are just "eh", like okay and they fill my belly but nothing to write home about. But this one is worth every word, the flavors, the choices, they make a great sandwich and it was big so the second half ended up being dinner. I've discovered a gem of a sandwich spot and can't wait to stop by again, highly recommend it!

First time eating here since becoming a vegan. I didn't want the Saint Francis, so they helped me put together a vegan sandwich with a great vegan bread from Acme like a fococcai Also avoiding oils. Best sandwich shop!

As an east coaster, it's hard to find a good hoagie (sub) on the west coast... The Saint Sandwhich Shop nails it for me. I got a build your own and the portions are big, flavors are fresh and delish and the rolls are dense. Ask for a side of pickles too Service can be slow but it's worth the wait. You can always order online and pick up too. Ambiance is casual and small so you may wait for a seat. Sando def holds up well to go!

THE SAINT!! YESS!! From the small home town mom and pop feel- to the local brews in the fridge and laid back feel of this place, The Saint fires on all cylinders at all times! The bread is amazing (pizza Bianca) and the cookies are so soft! I personally get the best, a beautiful blend of Black Forest ham, salami, pesto, mozzarella, tomato! Reminds me of my Italian grandmothers cooking! Dude I mean, LOOK at this thing! The employees are down to earth and have a knack for remembering faces. Check this place out- you won't be disappointed!

No option to remove onions on the Saint Francis sandwich.

I'm vegan and have been coming to the Saint for the Saint Francis sandwich for years. I bring my friends regularly, and have almost always enjoyed my experience, tho today was an exception. I recently developed an allergy to onion and, unfortunately, onion is the only ingredient not listed to remove on the Saint Francis sandwich (on their website). I decided to call to place a pickup order so I could mention the allergy. The man who picked up the phone refused to take an order insisting that I must place my order online. I explained there wasn't the option to remove the ingredient and was worried since I had an allergy. He argued that I was mistaken, and I could edit the order online or order a "build your own sandwich" (without acknowledging the additional cost for such a thing). I mentioned the inaccessibility of such a system and that I truly wasn't seeing the option to remove ingredients. He spent longer arguing with me over the phone than it would have been to take my order over the phone. Eventually, I relented, and placed an online order stating in the "notes to seller" (the only way to edit an order in this case) no onion on the Saint Francis sandwich. There was onion on my sandwich. Maybe instead of believing they need to be right, they should just listen to the customer and try to accommodate.

Nut allergy friendly - I put a note on GrubHub and everything turned out fine. Review is for take-out via GrubHub, which estimated a 30 minute wait on a Sunday afternoon. It seemed accurate and my order was ready when I arrived. I ordered "The Bay" as it was highlighted as a popular option. It is exactly as described with turkey, roast beef, yellow cheddar, and vegetables in a sesame roll. The meat was sliced thin and it was a pretty hefty sandwich. I'd say it's more expensive than I would normally pay for a sandwich and as a deli the portions are interestingly right between "not enough" and "too much." I split the sandwich with a friend for lunch and I could've eaten more afterwards, but I don't think I could've finished another half of a sandwich. Maybe with some chips or a drink it would have been perfect. Anyway, don't be afraid of the price tag as the sandwich could easily be two portions!

Came for lunch and ordered their special and Saint Francis. The portions are huge and I could've just shared with the hubby. We also grabbed a chipotle pasta side it had a good kick. Will definitely come back to try other sandwiches. I'd recommend if you can eat it there or shortly after getting it because they do get soggy but still yummy sandwiches

Not much here. Farmer joes ready made sandwich better.

Sandwich not as good as Farmer Joe's - see pic. Bread hurt my teeth. Worst of all the old male taking orders who seems to hate his life is just nasty. Takes orders with as little information as possible and just rude. Live in the neighborhood - never going back and telling everyone in my neighborhood not to as well. No reason for nasty when you are taking my and others money. Music on way too loud also. Yuck.

My wife and I stopped the Saint Sandwich Shop by on a Thursday afternoon around noon to pick-up a sandwich to-go and the restaurant was empty except for somebody dining in and a Door-dasher waiting to pick-up an order. The menu here is pretty extensive in terms of specialty sandwiches but we ultimately opted to share The Saint -- salami, ham, provolone, lettuce, sweet peppers, banana peppers, pickled onions, hot pepper & olive spread, garlic aioli, all on a sesame roll. The sandwich is stacked! Make sure you grab a few napkins at the counter before heading off with your to-go order because the sandwiches are quite messy to eat. I wouldn't wait too long to eat the sandwich either, as the dressing can make the bread soggy pretty quickly. The sandwich itself is perfectly balanced with its ratio of meats, cheese, and sauces. Every bite feels like you're discovering something new. If you're looking for a light lunch, sharing a whole sandwich along with a side of potato salad or macaroni salad is more than enough. I am definitely stopping by again to try some of their other sandwiches.

I'm forever grateful for that recommendation because they make some of the best sandwiches I've ever had. I've tried a few items on the menu, but the one I always recommend is the Hot Italian. Everything about this sandwich is incredible. It's packed with flavor, and you can honestly tell it was made with care. I usually pair it with a bag of chips, and the total comes to around $18. It's absolutely worth every penny and always leaves me full and satisfied. The shop is consistently clean, and the customer service is always friendly and welcoming. I find myself going back over and over again, then telling myself I need to take a break--only to end up back there a few weeks later. That's how good it is. A couple of things to keep in mind before you visit: there's only limited street parking, so you may have to circle the block to find a spot. There's also not much room to wait inside, although they do have a bench or two where you can sit while your sandwich is being prepared. In my experience, the wait is usually around 15 minutes. I've honestly never been here when it wasn't busy, so expect a crowd. But once you take that first bite, you'll understand why. Great food, great atmosphere, and great customer service. I highly recommend checking this place out!

They have a nice variety of items to grab that go well with your sandwich. The service was friendly and quick. Workers were all kind, and we love that it's dog-friendly! Regarding the sandwiches, you can get a hot or cold sandwich. You can also build your own! Companion got the Hot Boy, and I went the Build Your Own route. The sandwiches are hefty, with lots of great meats and fillings, and for the price, very decent! I wish my bread were a bit more toasted and crunchier, but that's my preference. It hit the spot, and I'd be open to trying their other sandwiches. I don't often go to delis, but Brothers Deli was a nice place to try. We enjoyed it by the waterfront, which makes it a great picnic option. Find them off Park Blvd., with street and residential parking around.

I love that they use traditional cuts for the sisig. A generous portion of meltingly soft gelatinous pig's head (jowl, ears, snout, etc.) is loaded into a bubbly, crackly baguette-bolillo hybrid. The rich, seasoned pig drippings and runny egg yolk soak into the bread without turning it soggy, while the savory soy seasoning, creamy mayo, and mild kick from the chilies make every bite more delicious. Corner deli/Cafe in apartment building in unassuming part of Jack London Square. Deli is more to-go type with a few table sating outside. Other Yelpers say owner is same as Cam Huong in Chinatown. I remember getting a $5 banh mi at Cam Huong many years ago. Now $15 for a sandwich is sign of the times!

My only question is....WHY haven't I been here sooner?! I…read morewas craving pastrami, so I looked on yelp for pastrami in the area. My mom and I came in around 2pm on Monday (8/11). It's a cute delicatessen/restaurant. You order at the counter and they bring your food to you. Immediately the staff was so friendly and welcoming. The woman at the register was very nice and asked if we had any questions. My mom and I shared a pastrami sandwich, Brussels sprouts, fries, and slaw. It was reasonably priced for the Bay Area. When they brought the food to the table I was shocked. Everything looked amazing and very appetizing, and the portions were much bigger than expected. Before she brought the sandwich over, she asked if we were sharing it and was so nice to split it into 2 plates for us. That was very kind for her to do. Let's start with the French fries. Omg they were perfectly crisp but still fluffy on the inside. They had so much flavor probably because of the beef tallow and had just the right amount of salt on them. There was a side of mayonnaise with the fries, and it tasted homemade. I meant to ask them if it was. It was very good lol I couldn't get enough. The poppyseed slaw was very refreshing and it was tangy and sweet. We loved that the cabbage remained crispy and it was great for a warm day. The fried Brussels sprouts were full of flavor. They were a nice balance of sweet and salty. I loved the bacon on them. The hot pastrami sandwich definitely satisfied my pastrami craving! There was just the right ratio of meat-cheese-sauerkraut-mustard-dressing. The bread tasted freshly baked as well. It was full of flavor. And the side salad that came with the sandwich was excellent. We loved the tanginess of the dressing. We were shocked that there wasn't more people inside, but also for 2pm on a Monday, it probably was just an off hour. We had so many leftovers as we both don't eat very much, but lol as soon as I got home I started eating some more of the slaw and salad. Can't wait to eat the rest for lunch tomorrow. We are already planning on coming back to try the meatballs next time and definitely trying their Indian cuisine! I'll have to bring my husband here next. Thank you guys for an amazing lunch!

I'm sure there are other good things here but I keep just getting the cheese steak. The picture…read moredoesn't do it justice. It's a warm, crunchy roll, the chopped steak and cheese are perfect, and there's a salad next to it so you can take a bite of that while you're waiting for the next bit of your sandwich to cool down. Do yourself a favor and order this in instead of carrying it out. The roll is warm and crunchy and I think too much time in a bag would make everything less delicious. (I'm sure it's still good, it's just *better* if you can eat it when it's fresh.) I swear one of these days I'll try something else on the menu.

Awhile back, I tried to bring as much business to Star Meat as I could because 1. it's a small business and 2. it's inside Star Grocery (which I LOVE, so it's convenient). When I would go there, there would often be 2 or 3 people behind the counter and oftentimes I would be the only customer. I felt like I had to stand there forever before anyone even acknowledged I existed. Each person would be busy doing something, but there was no "I'll be with you in 2 minutes." Finally, I went one day and there were 3 workers behind the counter chatting with each other. I was the only customer and was standing around 6 feet away from them, looking right at them. They went on with there conversation (not doing any other work) for a full 5 minutes. Finally I thought, "OK, they really don't seem to want my business, so I can go to any one of 4 other places and get what I want." That was a year or two ago. So, today I thought, why not give it another try, it's certainly convenient. Again, I'm the only customer at the counter. One guy is washing equipment and two guys are making sandwiches. I know that they know that I'm there, there are mirrors all along the back wall exactly for the purpose of seeing the customers. After around 4 minutes I think, who knows how long I'm going to be standing here. Maybe they have to make 20 sandwiches and I'll be here for a half hour. So, I left. I don't have anything like this experience at the 4 other meat counters I go to in the area. I'm totally fine waiting if I have some sense that I'm waiting for a purpose and that the worker will get to me as soon as they can. But at Star Meat, it feels like I'm more of an inconvenience than a customer. "Hi, I'll be with you as soon as I can," goes a long way.

Glad we were able to track them down cause their sandwiches look so basic in pics but are so darn good. The market is cool too but I'm always gonna start by bee lining it to the deli in back of the shop to order one of their daily sandwiches. They make 3 flavors each day. 18$ a pop. Delicious.
