Requesting kitchen & sink opener liquid. Employee expert strongly recommended Kitchen sink powerful agent "guaranteed to work or your money back," @ $15.99 & Clnr Foaming liquid Draino. Neither worked & Indian lady clerk refused to honor the guaranteed telling me to contact Manufacturer & was surprisingly rude in response! I will never shop @ Goodman's again given this & a few other screwups-multiple attempts to get keys duplicated without success & cavalier attitude that surprises. I prefer to shop & support local but poor customer response & rudeness is simply intolerable! read more

I went in to replace the faucet connector for my bathroom sink's hot water. It was an old and unusual piece that didn't match anything on the shelves. As I stood there trying to figure it out, an employee came over to help and quickly realized how tricky it was. He consulted a colleague for a second opinion, and then they he called over Max, who happened to be on his lunch break. I told Max he didn't need to interrupt his break, but he insisted he was happy to help. He wasn't convinced the first option would work, so he kept testing different ideas and talking through possibilities. When Feliciano came by, the two of them compared notes and agreed on the right connector. They were absolutely right. We installed it when I got home, and it works perfectly--no more leaks. Thank you to the Goodman's Hardware team for the great teamwork, and a special shoutout to Max for going above and beyond to make sure I left with exactly what I needed. read more

Goodman is basically a small version of Fry's Electronics, but for hardware stores - and with marginally better service. For a local hardware store, it really is a life-saver and fairly well stocked with all the different doomahickies and doodads you'll need for your DIY home projects of almost any variety. A lot of contractors also rely on it for their stop-gap needs, so you'll see a steady supply of pros going in and out. They don't always have in stock what you need (it is a small hardware store, after all), so YMMV when you go in to find what you need. Service is hit and miss. On average the employee attitudes are slightly above grumpy, and there are a few real characters that add some "local color" to your shopping experience. Once you get past the "I hate my life" attititude that you bump into on occasion, you'll find that on average they do know what they're selling and can point you in the right direction to what you need. They do have some staff that also does contract work for a living, so now and then you will talk with people that have deep experience in the project you're working on, and they'll be very helpful. Over the years, having Goodman so close has saved me dozens of trips to Home Depot, and when I can't find what I need at Goodman, I'll just order it for free delivery from Home Depot if I'm willing to wait a few days. More often than not I just grab it at Goodman. Their prices are pretty competitive as well, which is a nice plus. Overall, go for the convenience and decent prices. read more

I'm not a handy dude, but I'm learning! MAX from the Plumbing dept. Helped me trouble shoot a troublesome toiletseat that wasn't working with the nuts/bolts it came with. Big ups to "Mad Max" for the assist because he worked tirelessly with me to get the right fix complete - and it totally worked in the end! read more

Knowledgeable staff from where to find things to recommendations. Store is stocked with variety and hard to find products plus a few surprises not typically found in hardware stores. It's the nostalgic store from years ago. Max was great to help me with some custom cutting of pvc pipes that took some figuring out for the right size as it was an unusual project. Goodman's, an employee-owned enterprise, seems to have every imaginable thing in stock without the cavernous of HD. I was particularly impressed with Max in the key copy/ etc. part of the store since he was able to find the right blank for a very obscure type of key. This is why I go to Goodman's rather than HD. read more

My car key died and they didn't have the right battery. Fortunately, Max in the key department taught me how to fix it on my own. He even lent me a special screwdriver and just asked me to bring it back the next day. (I'd give 5 stars if they'd had my battery in stock.) read more

Goodmans employees are almost all sick of their job and it shows. If the employee's attitudes toward customers are an indication of the work culture at Goodmans, then it may be beyond saving. I am a polite, nice person and when I go to Goodmans I make sure I am extra calm, extra nice, but still, when I need help with any item, such as today in the paint department. Instead of help, what I received was sarcastic responses to make me feel inferior to the employee's expertise. I already know he/she is far more knowledgeable than I am, for that is why I am asking for their help. It is ridiculous at the over the top negative resoonses, like I am an idiot and am wasting their time. Then the cashier, the one with the many nose piercings, which as zero to do with this review, only included to help identify her, as I do not know her name. She couldn't be bothered to check a plumbing part that she could not scan. There was no one behind me in line and she would not check the price for me. She told me if I wanted to buy it, I had to go get the code... Again, with the attitude and while she was filing her nails. It is a joke... I am done with Goodmans, they are over priced and don't care about their shoppers. I spent over 8k in last two months repainting and remolding my condo... I am not going to spend any more money there. Home Depot, Lowes any day. read more

An old-time, amazing experience where everything is for sale is a Saturday experience, as well as THE place to go to find odd items. Surprised at how some people were turned off in their reviews! I think that they are simply used to the pristine, sanitary, well-laid out and organized hardware stores of today. Wide aisles, lots of signage, room for a cart and toddler and maybe a coffee shop. Goodman's is not. It is an warren (look it up) of roughly categorized merchandise shelved along narrow aisles and seemingly mobs of people trying to get around the harried employees who are stocking shelves. Our experience was to ask an employee where items we wanted were located and, amazingly, they directed us. It was a lot of fun and something to experience. Especially if you are looking for an unusual item that used to be usual in homes but is not is the glitzy big box hardware stores that carry the same stuff everywhere. Go back in time, have fun and don't be such a fuss-budget. read more

I don't usually write Yelp reviews, but Brad at Goodman's absolutely deserves a shoutout. I came in looking for a replacement fob for my car (not exactly a typical hardware store errand) but Brad jumped in like it was no big deal. From start to finish, he went way above and beyond. Not only did he help me figure out the exact fob I needed, but he also kept me updated throughout the entire process. And I don't mean just a "your order is ready" call. Brad called with status updates, explained timing, and made sure I wasn't left guessing. Brad's proactive service is incredibly rare these days. Whatever Brad is getting paid, it's not enough. He was knowledgeable, friendly, and genuinely cared about helping me. The world needs more Brads. Thanks again, Brad--you made what could've been a headache into a breeze. read more

MAX in the hardware/plumbing provides EXCELLENT CUSTOMER SERVICE. My family and I have been loyal customers of this store for decades.. and each time that I have been helped by Max, he always goes the extra mile to make sure that I leave store with what I came in here for. That's more than I can say for some of the guys in the back that have worked there for years! Max has a professional attitude that is rare to come across anywhere these days...he knows the true meaning of customer service. I own several apartment buildings in this area so I'm always in need of getting keys copied. I also like to replace the window screens in my units before I put them back on the rental market again (it really spruces them up when paired with a fresh coat of paint trust me) and Max's attention to detail and the quality of his work is exceptional. I usually don't write reviews but this last time I came in , I was really impressed with accurate And timely service I was met with. it's just too bad they don't hire more employees with the same work ethic as Max in the cutting room! 5 stars read more

Goodmans Hardware states that it is "an affiliate of the Ace Hardware brand." So when I orderred silicone spray from Ace, I was directed to pick it up at Goodmans. I recieved an email from Goodmans saying my Ace Hardware silicone spray was in and that I needed to bring an id and the purchase number for pick up. I had indicated that my e-order would be picked up by my husband. At the service Desk Service he was told that he needed to bring a copy of the order confirmation/pick up email. The next day we returned with the e- copy and id. The silicone spray was not at the Service Desk and he had to wait for it to be brought to the front. He uses a cane and there was no place to sit down and wait. Attached to our order was info from Ace confirming our pick up. This is a large store. My husband waited a for long time. He is in his 70's. Standing and waiting is painful for him. So long Goodmans, you won't be seeing us again! read more

I would give the key guy 5 stars, he's kind and funny. And whoever does the window screens, I didn't purchase any window screens but he was also kind and funny. Beware of trying to make a return. I'm not sure how many times the manager asked me over and over "nothing is wrong with it? When did you buy it?" I had to repeat myself even though I had the receipt, original box and packaging, and purchased well under 30 days ago. Nothing wrong with the fan I purchased but it just didn't work out for me. This is my second visit here, and again, no luck. The first time, I came to look for Loctite, but they didn't have any. That's ridiculous for a hardware store. This time, I brought my own key to get it cut. It's an unusual key for an old Mazda. They didn't have the blank, but they also wouldn't cut my key due to store policy. The whole experience was frustrating and confusing. This place is a disorganized, expensive disaster. Go to Home Depot to save time and money. read more

Not actually believable! I received the kind of assistance today from Mohammed in the Cutting Room that I never thought was still possible in this day and age. It was like a trip in the time machine back to an era from my childhood in the neighborhood hardware store. I had purchased a small piece of furniture off the internet. It came "kd" (assembly required) and the manufacturer had shipped with a critical piece of hardware missing. I thought that I would give the hardware department in the rear of Goodman's a shot. Once Mohammed stepped in, he appropriated the problem solving as if he was working on a project of his own. Amazing! The patience and persistence he demonstrated until he reached a solution was truly exceptional. I will never doubt whether there is someone at Goodman's who will be there to help me with my DIY projects. read more

What makes Goodman so good is partly their wide selection of items, but mainly it's their great customer service. The staff is extremely knowledgeable and always happy to help. A good example was yesterday when I needed to replace a missing screw, and an employee (Max) took the time to help sort out what was needed and find it. It wasn't exactly a big sale this time, but this kind of service is what makes Goodman the store I go to for hardware etc. read more

The location is convenient and they have a large selection, but the staff has absolutely no interest in being helpful. In fact they're often downright rude. I suspect this starts at the top of the organization. Poor pay, no training, low expectations, etc. Also they seem to hire a certain demographic. Older, tired people that don't give a hoot. There is a south Asian gentleman who seems like a manager or maybe even owner. He's the most disrespectful of the lot. I suspect they know that most southern Marin folks don't have convenient alternatives. I'll still shop here, but I know I'll have to find items myself, make sure the pricing is correct and never try to return anything. Such a shame. read more

Customer Service is HORRIBLE!! Three strikes and you're OUT. Strike 1: a year ago I needed keys made. The key guy behind the counter was ornery and rude and made unusable keys! How can you get this wrong??? Strike 2: I came in last week with an empty propane tank. I walked over to the area for a swap and the worker turned away without greeting me, seeing the tank in my hand and did not even offer assistance and walked away to buddy buddy talk with his coworkers. When I walked after him, I asked for some assistance, and he responded by saying you need to go inside and pay first lady. Strike 3: I walk in today to buy an extra long drillbit, and upon walking in there are two women sitting at the counter, one coughing, her brains out and the other on her phone on Instagram. When I asked where I could locate extra long drillbits the older woman said in the hardware section. I responded. The entire store is a hardware store. Can you narrow that down to a specific aisle or three? she had an attitude with me as if I asked her for something unconscionable. My local hardware store is supposed to be helpful and gracious and of Assistance. This is the least favorite hardware store I have ever had in the area that I live. Ace Hardware and Palm Springs are the most friendly helpful individuals as well as is Cliff's. What the heck is wrong with people in Mill Valley at Goodman's? The owner or management need to do an overhaul of these employees and send them to customer service school. Or just get all new ones all together as they're not serving the community well. I'll be heading to San Rafael for my hardware goods at Ace up there in the future. read more

Goodman, you should be ashamed of yourself. Today I came into your store to buy a 1 1/2' ft table top Christmas tree. Last year this tree cost $19.99. This year the price is doubled. Hey guess what we are not all millionaires. Your price gouging is obscene as this is not an incremental increase. To think that this tree next year will be $60 or more is ludacris. Goodman's you can take your prices and you know what you can do with them. I think it's important to support small businesses but when this is the case, I choose not to. I won't be shopping in your store again not if you're going to screw your customers with the prices. read more

I try to buy local from small businesses but I'm done with this store (been doing business here for over 30 years and it's gone way downhill since they sold a few years back). Back to Home Depot.
