    Finished ring front

I want to share the story of my wonderful experience with Watson & Son, and particularly with Erica Scott who is a GEM! My fiancé had proposed to me some months back with a family heirloom, a garnet solitaire ring on a gold band. I liked it, but it wasn't what I had originally envisioned for myself. Luckily, I had my fiancé and future mother-in-law's blessing to change the setting. With this in mind and some questions about the stone, I visited Watson and Sons. I didn't have an appointment, but Erica made some time for me and made me feel at home. She studied my ring with her spectrometer and discovered that my ring was a lab made stone! I was pretty disappointed. Erica was very kind, empathetic, and offered her help in replacing the stone or creating a new custom ring. I discussed the options with my fiancé (did I want to replace the stone on the setting? did I want a custom ring design or something stock). I decided to design a custom ring with the help of Erica that would have the spirit of the original engagement ring, but a style that suited my personality. My fiancé and I embarked on an approximately 5 week collaborative experience that culminated in a gorgeous ruby and diamond gold engagement ring. First, I shared with Erica our budget, my preference for gems, color, metal band, and style. I was concerned that for my budget of $3000 I wouldn't be able to get the look I wanted. My preference was for a yellow gold ring with a deep red ruby, in an oval cut. I just didn't think I could afford one the size of my original faux garnet. I also wanted, but wasn't sure we could afford, trillion cut diamonds on either side of the ruby. Erica assured me that she believed we could source good quality, eye-clean, natural gems to create my dream ring and within a week she had sourced a variety of oval rubies, garnets, and sapphires for me to peruse. I chose a healthy-sized deep red ruby with lots of fire. It was smaller than the original faux stone, however, it was the REAL DEAL. It was also an excellent value. So far we were within the budget. Then came the diamonds. She sourced and priced out 3 pairs of trillion cut diamonds - a small, medium, and large option. If I had gone with small or medium, I would have (with stones, metal work etc) come in on or under budget. I chose the large sized pair of diamonds to compliment the ruby and that's where we went above the budget. But it's what I wanted and my fiancé was cool with it. I appreciate that Erica was genuinely enthusiastic and patient throughout this whole process. I brought printed pictures of rings I liked and didn't like, and asked her professional opinion. I wanted something that felt modern, but elegant enough to stand the test of time. She gave me her honest opinion and addressed all my concerns. It helps that she's also witty and very pleasant to be around in general. It took a week to get a full-sized wax cast mock-up of the ring for my approval. They placed the stones in the wax ring for me to imagine and inspect. This was the time to make sure the size was right and that I liked the setting. Another week, and my ring made! The finished ring was everything I wanted, it felt like me, it reminded me of the original ring, and it was sooo sparkly. I was so happy, and my fiancé was so happy that I was happy. We also got an appraisal along with the ring for insurance purposes. In the end we paid close to $1000 more than we originally planned -- it was totally worth it! I have a gorgeous piece of jewelry that will hold up to everyday wear, that I will pass on to my heirs, and that makes me smile and think how much my fiancé cares. The only downside to this visit was that I wouldn't be seeing Erica on a regular basis anymore. My solution to that was to find more work for Watson & Son! I have also gotten an antique amethyst ring that belonged to my grandmother repaired, and it looks better than ever. I 100% recommend Watson & Son for custom jewelry design, appraisal, and repair. And Erica is the best!

I needed to get my boots' soles replaced and was thinking about completely swapping the soles too. Mak provided me a reasonable quote for the rebuild and was also very knowledgeable in the shoe care tips he shared with me. He said he would complete an entire rebuild of both leather boots' soles within the day, and I was able to come before closing time to pick them up. I accepted and left my boots and contact information. Separately from my experience with the shoe repair, a couple came in after me to do a watch repair as I was leaving. Within seconds, Mak was able to identify the problem and said it'd take 10 minutes to fix. Talk about someone who knows their craft very well! He sent a text less than 2.5 hours later letting me know they was ready for pickup. I came before the store closed to pick them up. The boots' soles were revitalized, I put them on and walked around the store with them. I was very happy. Mak is awesome, gets your shoe repair done quickly with reasonable prices, and I will absolutely going to Mak for any shoe repairs I may have in the future!

I have two watches that stopped working--one about 25 years old, the other about 40 years old. I probably paid about $50-$100 each for them, but they have a lot of sentimental value. I called in advance and GWR staff (Jack) advised it was something they could complete in 10-15 minutes. Once they handed the watch back to me, I noticed several deep gouges around the case and case back/cap. I was shocked and immediately brought this to staff's attention. The staff noted one should expect gouges with battery replacements and/or case opening (Unbelievable to hear). Afterwards, the tech took my watch to the back noting he would discuss with their watch maker. Hearing the polisher/buffer running, I immediately told them to stop. Those in the watch hobby acknowledge that polishing in general is best avoided as it can deform/wear out the watch case. Per GWR's claim as "experienced Swiss graduate watchmakers", I'm stunned at the poor quality of work and skill, lack of customer service, and dishonesty. I've taken other time pieces to watchmakers in other locales and have never had such a poor experience. I will never recommend GWR to anyone and would advise others looking for watch repair to look elsewhere.

Everything felt rushed, impersonal, and mass-produced. After doing a lot of research, we found La Bijouterie. From our very first appointment, the experience felt personal and relaxed. We also went back and forth over email, more times than I can count, to get every detail just right. I was initially a little hesitant because I wanted a fairly classic three-stone ring, and La Bijouterie specializes in custom work, but I had very specific preferences around proportions, and we wanted an experience that felt enjoyable and genuinely customer-focused. La Bijouterie was exactly what we were looking for, with reasonable pricing that kept us within our desired budget. We couldn't be happier with both the ring and the experience, and we now recommend La Bijouterie to all of our friends who are starting their ring search. Thank you, Set and team!
