So really you're paying $185 an hour for one electrician and an assistant. Big difference. They'll get you in with their seemingly low price. The owner told me it would take an hour. I understand it taking maybe 2 hours, but 4 hours for 2 outlets is unacceptable. This company just has no idea how to manage customer expectations. I specifically told them that the basement was unfinished for adding the wiring to the new outlet but when the electrician arrived he said he didn't have the right tool to do that. So he wasted time trying another route through the studs but found ducting that he could have seen if he had checked out the basement beforehand. Yes, it was visible from the basement but he didn't even bother to look before starting so he cut unnecessary holes in our wall and wasted a ton of time. There was no foresight or planning with this company. He ended up having to run to Home Depot to get the tool and go through the basement like I originally told them. Then the owner threatened to charge me for the tool when I called to discuss the invoice and the wasted time, and he also tried to guilt trip me about wanting the electrician"s" to work for free. You'd think you could trust a professional to know what they're doing but with this company you have to fully determine and plan everything ahead of time because they won't. I should have heeded the warning of another reviewer that the owner is argumentative but I gave him the benefit of the doubt. Lastly, they also left insulation on the basement floor without putting it back and the cleanup was sub-par. Still had to sweep and mop after they left. I will say the guys that came to do the work were friendly and the actual electrician seemed knowledgeable. That's about it. Update after owner's comment: He is putting words in my mouth. He never offered to come out, just immediately gave me the quote of one hour when I explained what I needed. I never said it was a few inches, I told him it was a 90 degree turn on the wall a couple feet over. There was ducting--see attached pictures. It is visible from the basement. I wish I had inspected that sooner but of course I trusted the technician to know what to look for and make the appropriate action plan. Once again, I did not ask for free work but wanted an adjustment for the wasted time and all he offered was $50. To reiterate, 2 outlets were more than $800 which is over 4x more than I was quoted even after his discount. It's hard to talk to him on the phone though because he just kept putting words in my mouth and guilt tripping me (as you can see from his response as well). I never specified an amount, I just simply asked if he could work with me on the invoice since so much time had been wasted that they could have easily avoided had they checked out the basement like I told them. He also never gave a quote on material so that extra on the invoice was a surprise as well. When they ran into the issues, they said they were going to get it all taken care of so what did he expect me to do? Ask them leave with the place a mess and the wall left gaping open and nothing actually accomplished? My problem is that they could have so easily inspected the basement, realized their plan wouldn't have worked and done it correctly from the beginning. I was only asking a reduction for the wasted time. And if they had a vacuum to clean, they certainly didn't use it. Let his response be an indicator of how he conducts his business. He's twisting the story, putting words in my mouth, belittling me and astonishingly sent a personal message antagonizing me.

DETAILS: I chose to do an electric panel upgrade on my 50-year-old house. I did a lot of research about local electricians, and MZ Electric was one of the highest rated in the area. I got quotes from 3 different companies to compare prices. I met Adam (my technician) when he came to provide a quote. He said they try to have the person who gives the quote also do the work so their customers have continuity. I really liked that approach. After considering my 3 quotes I went with MZ Electric. Adam and his nice helper came within 2 weeks to do the work. It was a rainy day (which almost never happens in Colorado) so I assumed they would reschedule. Instead, Adam setup a small tent and did the upgrade. He said it would be about 5 hours without power, and almost to the minute the power was back on. Adam patiently answered all of my questions. They cleaned up the worksite nicely, and I happily had my new electric panel. About 4 weeks later, the electricity suddenly went on and off many times in a row. I freaked out! I immediately turned off the main breaker. Since I know a little about electricity, I turned on the power one circuit breaker at a time. What I saw made no sense. Some lights/plugs worked, others did not, and my stove reported a "bad connection" error. I immediately called MZ Electric. And if you're like me, you would assume MZ did something wrong when they upgraded my panel...but they didn't. Adam arrived within an hour (he left another job to help me). He was very nice and professional and said he was confident the work he did was fine and that something else must have happened. (I was very skeptical.) He ran tests to find out where the problem was and said it was one of the main conductor lines from my meter box. Adam called the owner, Keith, who also came out to help. They ran tests on the panel and the conductor lines to confirm the problem. Long story short...they were able to prove to me that one of the conductor lines went bad and it had nothing to do with the work they did. Keep in mind that conductor lines are buried 2 feet underground so the chances they could spontaneously break made no sense. Finally, Keith asked me if any other work was done that might impact my electric lines. I then remembered fiber optic cables had been installed underground 5 months earlier near my home. We finally determined that my electric line had been damaged at that time and it took 5 months to fail. Crazy, but true. Once they identified the problem, they gave me a quote to replace the underground lines, which I knew was expensive based on the original quotes I got. They temporarily rewired my electric panel so I had some electricity until they could replace the lines. Keith was very understanding and not only gave me a good price but also pushed me up in their schedule to get the work done. They did an excellent job and cleaned up the worksite very nicely. Within 5 days I had full electricity back. Adam and Keith and their nice helper got me all fixed up and were very fair on price even when I was in a desperate situation. I think shows real integrity and great customer service! I would absolutely use MZ Electric again and I would happily recommend them to anyone. Rick called me immediately and told me he was driving, so if I texted him my name and address, he'd get back to me in about 40 minutes with a quote. Sounds reasonable. So I texted him. And waited. And waited some more. After more than two hours of radio silence, I sent a simple "Hello?" Suddenly, Rick called me back sounding like I'd just sent him 47 texts, hired a private investigator, and filed a missing persons report. "Umm... I got your message. I'm going to have someone call you with a quote." Great. That's literally all you had to text me two hours earlier. Eventually someone called and quoted me $259 to install a thermostat. Not exactly a Yelp special, but fine. We scheduled the appointment for 10:00 a.m., and I rearranged my schedule to make it work. A few days later, Rick left me a voicemail asking if they could move my appointment to 9:00 a.m. instead. He specifically said to call or text him back. So I texted him back. Can you guess what happened next? If you guessed "absolutely nothing," congratulations, you've worked with R&A before. I explained that I couldn't do 9:00 because I had another appointment at 9:15 and had already moved things around for the original time. No response. Not a yes. Not a no. Not a "See you at 10." Not even a thumbs-up emoji. At this point, I wasn't sure if they were coming at 9:00, 10:00, or sometime during the next presidential administration. So I canceled. The funniest part? The second I canceled and pointed out that this was now the second communication failure, Rick magically responded almost immediately: "Okay. Sorry for the poor communication on our end." Amazing. We had them come out last week to install two ceiling fixtures and run electrical to both. We were quoted 2 hours and notified that their pricing had increased to a $250 flat fee for the first hour (previously $160), then $160 per hour thereafter. Pricier than before, but we decided to move forward since we were told it should only take two hours. It ended up taking 3 hours and 15 minutes, and we were charged a full 4 hours. When we got our bill, it was much higher than expected and lacked a cost breakdown, so we called to clarify. It was then that we learned the price per hour after the first hour was actually $195, and we didn't have anything in writing for the original quote, so we couldn't push back. Our bill was adjusted down by about $200 due to administrative errors, but overall we spent twice as much as we expected to pay. I understand that prices increase, especially in today's economy, but between such a price jump ($125 more in just the first two hours of service) and being misquoted for how long it would take, we unfortunately will not be moving forward with Flowers Electric.
