This is an excellent dentist with top of the line equipment. His staff is very good also. I just was suspicious about some of the work plans that the dentist and his staff proposed to me. I was self-pay, but the dentist offered a financial payment plan that dramatically reduced the cost of cleanings (2 per year. at about 50% of the listed fee) and x-rays ( every other year). So why am I complaining? My long-time dentist, Dr Berger sold his practice in Annapolis and retired... I suppose if I hadn't left Maryland in five years ago and I miss him I suppose that if I had not moved to NC 5 years ago... my trust level would have matured by now. this service provider tends to bill insurance companies for charges not rendered nor requested by the patient. I specifically requested a specific service which was a basic cleaning. They billed my insurance for specialty cleaning. This not the first time I have had this issue with Waugh Chapel Dental. They are stealing. Nothing but up charges. read more

In my opinion, very Unprofessional takes too long to obtain custom items I feel that Dr. P has no bedside manner. Long response times- in my experience, the Office staff doesn't call you back when message is left. Seemingly Poor customer service and failure to resolve issues I felt brushed off and dismissed by Dr. P and her tone was quite nonchalant and rude to me. The billing department is horrific. They upcharge you and don't submit to insurance. They have contractural amounts they can bill to ins companies but will refuse to submit because they can charge a patient a higher rate. Just because something is not covered doesn't mean the amount allowed by insurance is what patient should pay. But they will charge ridiculous amounts under the guise of "it's not covered". The front desk staff is just ghetto and a revolving door. As I was leaving a message for the "office manager" the receptionist told me half way through that "it wasn't her problem"....Dr. P and her assistant Gabby are truly great so it's not been an easy decision to leave this practice. However it is a necessary one. Every visit I have to correct their billing or dispute the charges. I can't get an email or call back from their so called office manager. She seems to never be "in the office". Or, just doesn't do her job. I have made official complaints to my insurance company regarding their fraudulent billing. They also charged my credit card without my consent and that's now been disputed. Save yourself the stress and money and find another practice. read more

This place is amazing. Here is why: Friendly staff Tvs at every chair for patients to watch Rooms are calming with a beach like vibe Kid friendly! This was big ticket for me. There a special section in waiting room for kids to play or read or color etc. This is also the first place my kids didn't freak out and feel scared to go. In fact now they look forward to going, it used to be like pulling teeth (pun intended) to get them to go to the dentist. Lastly, the take great care of you and focused on your comfort as well as making sure they are providing you quality service. I been going there over 2 years now. I will never use this practice again. It had been some time since I went to a dentist, so when I did go I expected some major procedures. As it turned out I was right, but what happened upset me. I was given an estimate of the procedures, but was NOT told there would be extra fees. They were not up front about "lab" fees. I kept comparing what my insurance stated I owed and what I paid. I eventually contacted the manager. She explained they do not submit the lab fees to the insurance because there is no proper code. I called my insurance and they confirmed they do not pay lab fees but suggested the practice could have added some type of lab fee. This way I would not have thought I overpaid. My suggestion to the practice is to be absolutely up front about the fees and not bury them in the estimate. read more

Worst dental experience ever. Sitting in a chair for up to or over an hour on each visit while the harried dentist worked on 4 or more people at a time. Dr. Daley was extremely rude and condescending to his dental technician. I was completely uncomfortable to be sitting in the chair between them.. On my last visit, after waiting more than an hour in the chair with only a brief check in by Dr. Daly I chose to leave. I stopped in at the front desk to let them know I was leaving and why. I asked for a balance on my account and paid that in full not knowing that they had included the charges for that days service. Service I never received. When I realized this almost $2,000 mistake I made at least 10 calls over the period of 6 weeks to the billing rep. (aka Dr. Daly's wife). My calls were completely ignored or I was told I was wrong and they had completed the work. I had my new dentist provide x-rays to show that the work they had billed me for was not done. Still no response. Not so much as a courtesy call or message. I was SO frustrated at this point I let them know I would be coming in at their busiest time and we could review it in person in front of a fully lobby of patients since they wouldn't return calls or address the billing error. I also called Dr. Daly an egomaniacal jerk on a message. Yup, I was that mad and they were that wrong. Dr. Daly responded by SENDING THE POLICE to my place of business and my home. This is my one and only interaction with the police in 50 years. I was told to stop harassing him and treated like I was an absolute lunatic. I am a busy professional and have more money than time. Not only did I lose $2,000 out of pocket for dental work that wasn't done, I had to go elsewhere and pay out of pocket for the same work that was now not covered by my insurance because he claimed it and used up my benefits total for the year. His dental technician called me independently to apologize and let me know that she knew I was correct and that she was sorry no one would help me. I never got my money back but he definitely intimidated me into leaving it alone. There isn't enough money in the world to make me deal with Waugh Chapel Dentistry again. read more

Horrible place. During my visit back in April (Six months ago), I made an appointment for dental cleaning on October 10th. On the day of my appointment when I walked in, the receptionist was like "What appointment?". I'm very sure that I had the appointment because I confirmed it with another receptionist a few months ago. Either someone deleted my appointment by mistake or did it on purpose. Even if the mistake was because of a system error, I should be informed ahead of time. Instead, I was denied and rejected. Needless to say, I was not able to get my teeth cleaned that day. I don't often write reviews but felt compelled to write one here. I don't have dental insurance but knew I had problems so I thought I would give these folks a try. The facility and staff are worthy of five stars. This may sound nit picky but it really irks me. I woke up one morning with what felt like the flu or at least a real bad cold. I had an appointment that day and thought it would be better to cancel rather than spread whatever germs I had throughout the staff and other customers. I cancelled and was sent a $60.00 bill for cancellation. I know cancellations are a problem for any business that runs on appointments. I had never cancelled before and really wonder why there is no warning for the first offense. It just seemed to send a message that the money is more important than other patient's of staff well being. I'll pay the bill but I haven't decided if I will return. We have been owed money since 2017 from this office and I was told they have no power to pay me either credit back to credit card or a check. Will never return. They have no clue what they are doing. I cracked a crown in half. Instead of removing the remaining half to make an impression for a new crown (or even boding the broken half on temporarily because they said "both their machines" were making crowns for others) they spent over two hours trying to make a temporary front half to my crown using wax to make the impression. After 6 failed tries they jerry rigged a temporary made from the same material they use to make impressions, then proceeded to grind it down to a short yellow nub when they couldn't get the bite right. They were so inept and dangerous that they numbed my gums so they could drill along the gum line to clean up the sloppy work. My gum was ragged and bloody. Felt like my jaw was breaking it was cramping so bad during all their clumsy attempts. Have to pay $125 for this hideous painful experience. Used to use them for cleanings, but I won't be back. read more

I've never actually been to this dentist-- want to know why? I called at 1:30 pm on Friday 9/19/14 to make my first appointment. After being on hold for ELEVEN minutes, I hung up and called back, assuming I had been forgotten about. When I called back at 1:45 pm, they had turned their phones off even though they don't close until 2pm... I tried calling again just now and was put on hold. This is the first dental group I have been to where, they want you to replace old fillings in your mouth even if there are NO issues with the filling(s) or tooth. My advice, if you are not having any issues--do not do it. Back in 2013 Dr. Daly put a crown on a tooth, I had a good experience with him (what the hell happened?) The same guy replaces a filling (again nothing was wrong with the old filling or the tooth), I called the office a week later due to the pain I was having from the replacement. I had ask to speak to the dentist, instead of talking to me he had a staff member pass along his message,"that I probably need a root canal" ( WTF!). About a week later the pain did go away, but the filling had a spur on it (oh what joy of having the upper inside of my mouth sliced). I had gone back to have the spur shave off, Dr.Crum was helpful with that issue. But I had a filling done by Dr. C, and that lead to having the filling fully replaced by another doctor ( the issue was called, overlapping). I have seen each doctor at this practice, sadly to said each one had cause painful issues after convincing me to have a old fillings replaced. My new doctor explained that old fillings can stay in your mouth until they begin to cause problems. read more

I was hoping to find a local dentist, since traveling to my awesome dentist in Fairfax, VA was becoming exhausting after relocating. Hence, I came to Waugh Chapel with my hopes high but disappointed as this office is money driven and does not provide good customer care. Dr Daly's staff and management need better training as they told me there would not be additional fee for an X-ray since I came in with my X-rays from my dentist, but they wanted to take their own to make sure. I received a $60 bill that I would not have had if I went elsewhere. Initially I refused the X-ray but later decided to have done since I trusted they were honest and knew what they were saying. This bill proves otherwise, and discourages me from visiting again. I'm very disappointed after speaking with the office manager, Jennifer who made no attempt to address nor make good on what I was told. My issue is with the lack of integrity and trust! read more

This letter is to dispute a Dental Bill submitted on my insurance for dental x-rays by Waugh Chapel Dental. I made an appointment for a pre surgery (hip replacement) clearance. The clearance was to assure that I didn't have any oral infections prior to the surgery. I recently moved out of the area of my previous dentist, and because of the urgency of the surgery called someone in the local area. I was struck by the unprofessionalism on arrival. Before I could finish filling out the new patient paper work the receptionist asked if I had insurance that would pay for an x-ray. I responded that I did not know. She asked for my insurance card and proceed to call Blue Cross Blue Shield for an approval from the lobby reception area filled with patients. I assume someone said yes because she excitedly ended the call. When I was called back for the exam a number of procedures I had not asked for were carried out: X-rays; Teeth Cleaning; and others by a dental hygienist. The hygienist said that I needed a tooth extraction and that they would not sign off on the surgery form unless I did that. When she finished a doctor came in for about five minutes and said I also had two cavities that needed to be filled, and that they needed to remove a crown to see if I needed a cavity to be filled under that. It felt like some sort of medical blackmail. I explained to the dentist that I only come into have the pre-surgery form complete saying that I had no infections. She caught an attitude and said she would not sign off until the work had been completed. The dental hygienist then escorted me to an area to make an appointment for the extraction, she said that I only needed to do the extraction to get the surgical approval. I was very uncomfortable with the experience, I'd never felt like this after seeing any doctor. I called my orthopedic surgeon's office to see if this made sense to them. I spoke to the doctor's assistant. She said that I only needed the dentist to check to assure that that I didn't need have any oral infections. I told her that they I needed to do preventative maintenance, and get the $160.00 extraction prior to the surgery. She said that she had heard that some dentist do this kind of thing, but that for $160. It might be best to go ahead and get it over with in order to get the pre-surgery approval. When I returned to the dentist on Aug. 15th 2018 for the extraction, I asked a different dental hygienist if they were going to give me the approval after the extraction. She said she didn't know, and that she ask the dentist. She came back a few minutes later and said that the dentist would talk to me when she came in., and tried to apply the anesthesia before the doctor came in. I said no not until I was sure the clearance that I came in for would be given. When the dentist arrived she said that I needed additional dental work, and that she would not sign the letter because I need to be sure my whole body was ready for the surgery. I declined to get the work done and left the office. On Aug. 29th I was sent a bill for $120.00 for a no show appointment, with additional information about work they had billed to Blue Cross/Blue Shield for $440.00. I called the dentist office and explained that I had in fact shown up for the appointment, but left after the dentist said she would not sign off for what I had originally gone there for. The person I spoke to at the dentist office said they would speak to the office manager and call me back. When she called back she said that they removed the $120.00 no show charge, but now I owed then $360.00 for the x-ray. This office is just trying to gouge me and Blue Cross Blue Shield. I never asked for the tooth cleaning, X-rays or anything other than an exam to assure that I did have a oral infection for the pre-surgery approval. This is a dishonest medical over-reach and over charge. read more

I have been a patient here for over 6 years. I called to make an appointment knowing the wait to get in is quite long. The receptionist told me that the earliest I could get in to the see the dentist with an afternoon appointment was August, it is mid-March. She then told me that since I have waited this long to make an appointment what is it to wait until August. Poor customer service and when I remarked I will be finding a new dentist, she hung up. This place is a disaster. They claim you need follow-up dental work after every cleaning and give you an estimate that is a blatant lie. Not only did they overcharge me for dental work that I likely did not need but then they lied about what my insurance would cover. After months of working this situation out, I finally just threw the balance on my credit card, cancelled an outstanding appointment and am writing this review as a warning to avoid this horrible place. My entire family has been treated by Dr Daly for many years with superb care, however there billing and office care could use some work I'll explain....My daughter was told that braces would be a good idea to take care of her overbite and that she would be a good candidate for invisaligns of which we agreed. Called insurance and verified that max payment out of the entire evolution was 2500.00. Needless to say a good portion of cost was coming out of my pocket which I agreed. The process started in 2013 and was SUPPOSE to be for 18 months. My insurance pays these bills quarterly, however they stop paying because the office did not submit a dental plan for the entire process of which I tell them is required in order to start the payments up again. I begin to tell them exactly what is needed in the dental plan. My insurance tells them what is required and will not pay any more until they receive it. it's now 2018 and I'm still trying to resolve it with the dental office/billing department who have yet to provide the entire amount of service of which has not finished out because they refused to give her the last retainer until the 1000 plus remaining dollars is paid of which this portion is due by the insurance agency because they have only paid out 1500 to date. My portion has been paid however I continue to get the bills you know the ones in RED saying you owe and I continue to call and email requesting the dental plan. Even last month there version of the dental plan was to scan all the invisalign bills back to back for the entire process and call that the dental plan. I'm in a no win situation but will not pay them and if need be will seek legal assistance if this affects my credit in any way due to their lack of ability to provide what is required to the insurance company. So I'll end in saying the services are great we love the dentists and dental techs the billing NOT SO MUCH! read more

I have been a patient of Dr. Daly's for a little over 2 years now. I cannot tell you how amazing his entire practice is. Starting with the girls at the front desk. When you walk in, you are always greeted by a smiling, happy face. When you walk out to pay or schedule your next appointment, they make sure you understand what's going on and talk to you about insurance and costs. I've read a few reviews on here that say they "nickel and dime" and that is 100% false. They just give you the fees with an estimate of what your insurance will pay. They of course encourage you to schedule for your health and well being but they definitely don't push you. To me, it's my responsibility to know my insurance but they try to make it theirs which goes above and beyond what they have to do. I have had 2 root canals, 3 crowns, 6 beautiful veneers and the whitening. He did such an amazing job with everything. Oh, and the hygienists are superb. I see a lady named Amy or Dr. Daly's wife, Ann. Both are amazing at their job and so friendly. I highly recommend going to Waugh Chapel Dental. Their new office is absolutely beautiful. I rarely write reviews but I am so upset that I am making the time. DO NOT GO TO THIS DENTIST. I had an absolutely horrible experience getting my crown but the most pain came from the billing department over the months that followed. Apparently, there were a lot of things not covered by insurance that were not explained prior to the procedure. All said and done - paid over $1000 out of pocket. The worst part is I initially just went for a cleaning when Dr. Daly determined I needed a crown. My tooth was not bothering me at all and since I already had a filling and pulp cap on the tooth I was skeptical....but took his professional advice. My tooth has been killing me ever since and is extremely sensitive. I went back and Dr. Daly just said now I need a root canal but insurance dollars are exhausted for the year. I wish I had never got the procedure done. I also witnessed Dr. Daly treat his staff like a jerk. The reviews here are all correct. They will nickle and dime you like no other, and yes, they are very aggressive, all for the almighty buck. I feel like I'm being sold to the whole time. Was told I needed a medicine that you could only get at a dentist's office from them for $20 -- that I couldn't buy it anywhere else, and that they don't give prescriptions for it. I googled the medicine, saw that you can get it at any pharmacy, showed that to them and they wouldn't budge. I went to a pharmacy, asked them how much it would cost and they said $3.60 and they called Waugh Chapel Family Dentistry and got them to fax over a prescription. Sure, its only a $16 difference, but its the old 'boy that cries wolf'. Try to get this over on a patient, what else are you trying to get over on a patient. Ive been a patient for many years. I had to leave once because my employer insurance changed. I could not wait to get back to Dr. D. They are honest and if you dont want to do something right there thats okay with them but they will tell you what they see. It is their ethical responsibility. This is an exceptional practice and I dont get the other reviewe.r Insurance is always a hassle and they work with it all the time and all the changes that occur. I really feel extremely comfortable with them and if they have a problem with your insurance they will work on it it until resolved. Expertise: l this is a great practice. all the Hygienist are wonderful and thorough. I know my teeth will be in my mouth when I am 90 because they take good care of them and also have taught me how to take care of them.
