I originally went to Columbia Center for Implants & Periodontics for a second opinion, and after a pretty disappointing experience there, I knew I needed to look elsewhere. That's when I found The Mugford Center. And boy, what a difference! From the moment I walked in, the ladies at the front were warm, friendly, and genuinely pleasant. Huge shoutout to coordinator Summer. Also to Amanda, and all the wonderful team members and hygienists who make the office feel so welcoming. Dr. Bruce is truly exceptional. He saved me from getting four teeth extracted unnecessarily. I only truly needed one extraction for an implant. Instead, he performed osseous surgery (I wasn't a candidate for LANAP due to the advanced stage of my condition), and everything went incredibly well. I was sedated and didn't feel a thing. The level of professionalism, honesty, and skill here is unmatched. If you're looking for a periodontist not only in the Crofton area but in the DMV, Dr. Bruce is the one you want. I was referred to Dr. Mugford for two crown lowering procedures. The first was for my lower 6 front teeth. The second, two weeks later, was to crown lower two front upper teeth to obtain more support for my upper bridge work. I was a little anxious considering I didn't know what to expect. Cutting away gum and grinding on bone to expose more of your teeth and then sewing up my gums caused me some concern but Dr. Joe Passaro, my prosthodontist assured me Dr. Mugford was great at these and many other dental procedures. I was pleasantly surprised that after localized numbing I didn't feel any pain during both procedures. For a day or so after each procedure I felt minimal soreness. As a patient and dentist who referred to Dr. Mugford for many years (before retiring)I feel like I have an insight into his practice that the average patient may not be able to see. As a prior review reported so succinctly Dr. Mugford and staff are " professional, knowledgeable, skilled,caring and gentle". This is the same response I received over and over from the many patients I sent to him . My family has found Dr. Mugford to be professional, knowledgeable, skilled, caring and gentle. I don't know what else anyone can expect from a dentist, especially one with his speciality services. Dr. Mugford performed multiple implants on my mom in her late 80s. He was gentle and patient with her and the results were very impressive. She is able to eat solid foods, still, and she is soon to be 96. Later - due to poor dexterity on her part, her oral hygiene suffered and her local dentist was apparently unable to recognize gum disease and infection pockets (now her ex-dentist). Dr. Mugford saved her teeth and implants with immediate care and followup. He is now providing all of her monitoring and dental care to ensure this does not happen again. I experienced a problem with a calcified front tooth and faulty root canal performed by a specialist in Annapolis. In his defense, this is not unusual for the issue I had with this tooth. My private dentist - one of the very best in the region - referred me to Dr. Mugford for the necessary treatment and implant. I was very afraid and wanted to be put out but he assured me he would not hurt me... and he didn't. In coordination with my very excellent personal dentist, the bone generation and gum generation necessary for the implant was done in such a way that I was never without a tooth - a temporary was able to be placed that same day. The whole process was virtually painless and the result is absolutely perfect. Dr. Mugford's location is convenient, his office is clean and professional and his staff are excellent and friendly. I will add that a co-worker had a similar procedure done elsewhere (because it was estimated to be a few $100 less), and he endured unbelievable pain and loss of time from work. In the end, he did not save a dime. I would never go to anyone else for this kind of procedure and I highly recommend Dr. Mugford! read more

TOTAL WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY!! First, David Mugford had no respect for my precious time. He overbooked my appointment with a long surgery for another patient (as the staff claimed) and didn't care at all about me waiting for a long time. Second, Mugford has NO contract with any insurance whatsoever. Third, he charged me for the first visit too much! In my first visit, he charged me an additional $459 for a special X-ray device in his office which my insurance (a very good insurance plan) never covered. Fourth, the front office guy named Sunny was very rude and unprofessional to me. After my expensive first visit, I had a confirmed appointment for explaining the treatment plan as Mugford had promised. The staff called me multiple times to change the appointment because it was supposed to be at no additional cost and my impression was that they wanted to push and overbook it at the same time when Mugford had a surgery with another patient. When I arrived at the office for my confirmed appointment, they said my appointment was actually scheduled for an hour later! While I was 100% sure they had made a mistake or they were not telling the truth, I said ok fine I would wait in my car in the parking lot. After I waited for 40 minutes in my car, they called only to inform me that the doctor was 45 mins behind schedule and couldn't see me until nearly two hours after my original appointment time with no apologies whatsoever!! On top of David Mugford's arrogance and disrespect to my precious time, I couldn't tolerate Sunny's rudeness and cancelled all my appointments entirely. When you waste people's precious time, you MUST make an apology, plain and simple! DAVID MUGFORD OWES ME AN APOLOGY FOR WASTING MY PRECIOUS TIME AND A FULL REFUND for my expensive first visit because he did NOT deliver a free consultation on treatment plan at the confirmed appointment time as he had promised. read more

Dr. Mugford is the BEST for dental implants. He is a master with novocaine; very caring and careful; and very professional. I had zero pain during or after the procedure. His staff is excellent as well. read more

Very Very disappointed in the quality of products provided. My husband and I were both being seen at the UMD Dental School. My Dentists was completing his advanced/specialty training in the spring of 2012 and was no longer able to see me at the Dental School. I really liked my dentist, Dr. Tassos Sfondoris, so I followed him into private practice. My dental situation was one that was going to be costly and I was very upfront about what I could afford based on Dental Insurance Coverage and my husbands Cancer Care and treatment...and we wre essentially a one income family. I could not afford implants. I needed a Partial removable denture. Dr. Sfondoris, performed all the necessary work..measuring and fitting for a partial. My front tooth actually fell out on its own and when I texted Dr Sfondoris, he agreed to see me the next day. Conveniently, the partial denture was available and he proceeded to remove 2 additional teeth and fit the partial. It was a very painful day. But the pain was only increasing...not from the procedure....but the billing process and poor quality partial. the partial broke within a week....the front tooth broke off!!!! When Ic alled my dentist , he suggested I "Superglue" it...Un-Buh-Lievable...that I refused to do and waited until I could see him again. Dr. Sfondoris re-attached the broken denture to the partial...but it broke again...2 more times....he finally adjusted it some...but then another one of the teeth(molar) broke off....he asked if I needed it....with the exception of it showing an empty space on the right side of my mouth..."i guess not"...except I did need it...it was needed to help anchor the partial and for a better fit...so the next thing that happened...the entire partial cracked in half!!!! when Ic alled to complain, and mind you...i had already said that I was disappointed and thought the partial should be returned to the Lab....I was told by Maggie the Office Manager, that it was only a temporary and that was to be expected...really ??? for $967.00????? The balance owed was $167.00, Maggie sent me several reminders...in addition to 2 reminders that it was time for my cleaning...i reminded them that I owed them money and I would not be returning until my partial denture was repaired. They then sent my bill to collections....to add insult to injury...I tried to denture-grip the front tooth back on at the end of December so i could speak at my husbands funeral...it fell out ion the middle of my tribute...so so embarrassing. My last resort was a dispute with CareCredit to see if they would refund me the $1000.00 charged...after investigation, they said the service was performed and since the dispute was for the product not the service, they could not assist. So, I have lost my husband, my front tooth and I cannot smile at anyone...my sadness at the loss of my husband is only exacerbated by the inability to even be able to smile at the few things I can find to smile about. read more
