What? No Yelp love for Wave Hill yet?? very hard to believe.. They make some seriously good bread - i think the sterns called it "the best bread in america" and its available at some local farmers markets if you can't make it to their little store on route 7 in Wilton. I tried a few times to get to their bakery and they had some pretty odd hours, 9 to noon every day except tuesday when they are closed. They are located in back of a building so it's easy to miss from the road (look for the "free bread samples" sign) .. If you are nearby and are of the bread-loving kind, it's most definitely worth the trip .. if they are at a local farmers market near you and you see them - give it a try, i know you will like what they make. I believe all the breads they make are the same dough, all very good. perfect mix of chewy and crunchy, nice outer crust surrounding the wholesome breadyness. read more

I bought some really good cheese to eat with relatives in Norwalk. I wanted a proper baguette to eat with said cheese and not that supermarket rubbish bread full of sugar. This place delivered big time! Also bought crossant, pain au chocolat and pain au amande which even heated up the next day were as good as in France. This place isn't cheap. But it's a lot cheaper than a ticket to Paris. I wish there was somewhere as good where I live. Bravo! read more

Hhhhmmm - I left the place a very nice review with 4 stars, which I don't dole out lightly, yet the Owner or rep on behalf of the Owner tries to dis what I wrote. You did not serve pastries at your old location, did you? It was only bread from what I recall. I've been several times to this "new location" in 2013 and simply do not like the space no matter what appetizing choices you may have on any of your menus. It is cold, uninviting and not a place I would choose to dine in. Comfy chairs? Okay, if you say so...You can easily rock the factory look - both Sugar & Olives and Nicolas Roberts nearby are similar functional spaces but they make the ambience inviting, especially the former which is stunning. Furthermore, that street and neighborhood and the dearth of parking is really a nightmare. What a shame you didn't leave well enough alone with my nice 4 star review. read more

You cannot go wrong with a single item in this delectable bakery. My husband fell in love with Maritozzi in Rome. When we saw they make them at Wavehill Bread he rushed right over to try. A maritozzi is simply a bun stuffed with what we refer to as whip cream. It is simple but not simply made. It takes an expert baker, ingenious chef and patience to create a perfect maritozzi. When my husband took his first bite he was speechless. When he could finally talk all he said was "Oh my god that just took me back to Rome!" I had been hearing about Wave Hill Breads from everyone I meet in Fairfield County. I have seen them at the Westport Farmer's Market and bought their products from other area vendors. The breads always looked and tasted yummy! They supply bread to many renowned area restaurants. Just look up the list on their website! I had also heard that their Norwalk location has a café offering light breakfast and lunch fare. I ordered a delicious Fire-Roasted Poblano Pepper and Grilled Cheese Sandwich. I asked them to add some pear or apple to my sandwich for a touch of sweet to complement the spice of the poblano and salt from the cheese, and they wonderfully obliged. It was an excellent sandwich. The bread was the perfect combination of crunchy and chewy if you know what I mean. There were many other options on the menu that will bring me back to Wave Hill Breads café. Finally, a few Triple Nut Glazed Brownies caught my eye, and I had to have some. Perfect and delicately sweetened, loaded with all kinds of nuts. It was simply divine! Meh. Happened to be in a store when one of the owners was there checking on a display. I went over to her, waited until she was free, and told her we were glad to have their products available -- she looked at me like something she'd scraped off her shoe, and didn't even respond before pivoting around and turning her back on me. I live in Queens and purchase their bread from the farmers market in Cunningham Park. I absolutely love the roasted garlic bread and the red pepper and olive bread! And if it's available a must is the monkey bread. It's made with croissant dough and I always get the regular one with cinnamon sugar and the cheese one. I wish they retailed in stores closer to me but it's probably safer that they don't :) read more

We bought two chocolate croissants that were big and great, the soda bread was great too. Really good breads. They were giving out samples of snickerdoodle cookies once and the texture on the cookies was like nothing I have experienced. Be prepared, this is not really a retail storefront, just racks of fresh baked breads at the front of what looks like a commercial operation... which I think is great. Breads don't stay fresh as long as when you buy at grocery stores (fewer preservatives maybe?) so make sure you eat accordingly and don't waste any. read more

Sorry, it took so long to write a review but we have been going to the bakery since they opened (approx. 12 yrs ago)! I can go on forever, but making a long story short...it's the most authentic bread and pastry (We're hooked on their monkey bread!) we have tasted outside of Italy! We buy their bread twice a week and got to know both the original owners and the new owner (Tito) and staff very well. For us, there's no other place to buy bread/pastry. Absolutely in love. Came here during the snow storm and the owner could not have been more courteous. Just don't be alarmed by the outside, the store lives on a street of homes. Focus on the quality! We used to buy their olive bread every Saturday at the New Canaan farmers market, and never knew they made it! Everything from their sourdough to sandwich bread is phenomenal. Don't even get me started on the pastries. I never would have tried something called "monkey bread," but it's seriously the best. One word: phenomenal. I had heard that Wave Hill was open on Saturday, and that one could go to their wholesale bakery location and buy their breads. My boyfriend raved about the bread, which he purchased at Fairway, and so we decided to make the short drive from Stamford to Norwalk to check it out. When we arrived at the High St location, we were greeted by the baker, who ended up being the friendliest and most attentive and informative baker I have ever heard of or encountered. Since we had only ever purchased the bread in the local Fairway, the baker made sure to explain the entire selection, and even went so far as to have us sample a variety of the breads! Such pride! As he described what goes into a "healthy" bread, one that is well made with the best ingredients, we ate the samples with excellent olive oil and vinegar and were left wanting to buy one of each of the available breads! We had originally intended to buy just one baguette, and we ended up buying 2 breads, 1 cookie, and 2 croissants. When we got home, we ate the Wild Yeast loaf and the cookie, which were exquisite! Highly recommended! We'll eat the croissants and focaccia tomorrow! You will NOT be disappointed. Best bread I've had outside of France. read more

It's in Norwalk on High Street now. Got this place off roadfood.com and I was disappointed. Chocolate chip cookie was way too sweet and wasn't any better than some pre-packaged cookies I've eaten. Olive bread with peppers was tough and much more air than bread. I'm sorry but chewing bread shouldn't make my jaws tired. People are friendly and nice but if I'm near there again, I won't return. Yes, indeed they have moved to Norwalk, which made me a bit sad, I loved having them in our hometown. However the bread can be found at local farmers markets and grocery stores. Bread and sweets --Honestly the best bread I've had anywhere, and I've been to France/Italy for extended periods of time. Their croissants look better than the ones I've seen in France or NYC, but I've only had the rosemary one (to die for). Café--Great, especially for price! Get the egg sandwich, which they make with soft scrambled eggs and ham(or bacon) on a rosemary croissant (can't get this anywhere else!). Soups are delicious. What a delightful place to have around! Fresh breads and bread based pastries all the time. The staff is friendly and helpful.
