Lots of pastry options and interesting lattes like pancake, cinnamon roll, and crem brulee. After you order up front if youre taking to go, there's not much room to stand around without being in the way. 2 large lattes will cost $15 without tip so a bit on pricier side but they were potent and delicious. Ordered a birthday cake for my father in law's 100th birthday. Was told that the coconut cake was the best. Asked for them to write Happy Birthday Dad. I told the person that this was a special day. Picked up the cake. Thank goodness that I thought to buy some edible gold glitter. The cake was all white with coconut as expected. The happy birthday was on a small round piece of wax WRITTEN IN BROWN LETTERING!!!! Who in the world decorates a birthday cake with brown letters?? Could barely even read it. When we cut the cake it was almost inedible. The icing was hard, the cake was dry and very overcooked. The only really edible part was the coconut cream filling which luckily was between two layers. I bought a loaf of sourdough and an almond croissant at SoNo's table at the City Seed Winter Market in New Haven. Both were good. The loaf had a good crusty outer layer and soft inside. Stopped by on a Saturday morning for a quick breakfast. You order at the counter and they give you a number to bring to your seat or call out your order if you choose to go. I had a bacon egg and cheese on a croissant which was just okay. I wouldn't order this again. A customer before me ordered a vanilla matcha latte which looked great so that's what I ordered and it was very satisfying. They have almond and oat milk for dairy free option. I took a chocolate croissant (pan de chocolat) to go and i microwaved it for 30 seconds that night and IT WAS AMAZING -- the best I've ever had. The little girl I brought munched on a sprinkle cookie which she enjoyed while we watched the kitchen staff preparing things through the glass. That's awesome to have kids watch and learn how things get made. The guy behind the glass was kind enough to draw her a picture and bring it out to her! I brought a different set of kids the following morning (Sunday around 11). By that time, it seemed like all the prepping and baking was done, so there was nothing to watch through the windows. I was starving but I guess they dont do lunch on Sundays, so the guy recommended the breakfast burrito. It was really good and the green sauce they served with it was phenomenal. The home fries were a disservice to the meal. They were terrible. I felt bad for the potato since it was charred and had absolutely no seasoning at all. Those went straight to the garbage. Ay. I had such high hopes for you SoNo Baking Company. I love a local spot and I love a bakery. I wanted the whole Belle experience, instead I got the beast. Woman behind the counter hated her life. That's fine. Can always look past it. Yelp wants you to write about the ambiance.....there's none to write about here. Regardless it's all about the food. The terrible coffee, the dry terrible cookie, and the slice of avocado on burnt toast does not make for a good meal. It's just a question as to why. Why do something if it's going to be mediocre? I've gone here twice now for chocolate cake with mousse filling, and GOD is it good. Very rich, and the buttercream frosting isn't too sweet, just how I like it. The first time we got a cake it was over a year ago when we were in a bind for my daughters' 5th birthday. They were the only place willing to make a cake with less than a week's notice, and it was amazingly delicious at that. People had double helpings! Due to the time constraint, a simple rainbow on top with blue frosting was perfect! This time around, I was less happy, mostly due to the decorating than the taste. The above experience is why I gave 4 stars instead of 3. Taste was still amazing, but this time I wanted something really nice for my baby's first birthday. I don't mind that it was made of chocolate fondant, but the bear overall came out wonky to me; his eye was funky and the balloons looked rushed. In the email I'd received with the bear picture to approve I'd asked for a light blue, dark blue, and white balloon instead of the yellow and pink. The white request was due to me thinking the cake would be chocolate buttercream since it's brown and the party was bear themed. Even if this was an assumption on my part, it should have been cleared up in an email response saying the white on white request wouldn't look good. Instead I received no email response and was disappointed by the balloons and the bland white. Honestly the frosting color wasn't even ever brought up. Even the smash cake balloons, wouldn't you think to make both sets the same colors? And I'd even said how this was the only time in my life I wanted my son messier than clean, so make thise colorful balloons BIG! Overall, taste is AMAZING, but decorating for the price is sub par with iffy communication. So thankful for their willingness to help last time, but we probably will try elsewhere next time. read more

Ordered a cake for an event. It is the most basic and simple cake. Used terrible colors to decorate the cake not following request. Frosting very slopping missing areas. The inside tasted stale covered my water used to make the cake moist. I would NEVER recommend this bakery and they deserve to go out of business especially with the terrible customer service. Cute spot that was a bit hard to find. Visited for breakfast and coffee in a day trip to the city. Coffee was great and they have all the typical espresso based drink options and use a great machine. Breakfast options are plentiful and they use local organic ingredients which explains the slightly higher prices. Our meals were very tasty. They have a wide selection of very tasty treats macarons, cookies, tarts, and they bake their own bread - sourdough, baguettes etc. we were interested in a Demi baguette but sadly, they were sold out. The staff was friendly - service a bit confusing and haphazard. Would definitely come back again next time we're in town. read more

When you walk in, you can see the bakers through the glass; they were making pinwheels today and it would have been great to try something straight out of the oven. They have an assortment of sandwiches, salads, coffees/teas, baked goods (cheesecakes, brownies [yum!], cookies, cakes, etc.) and breads. You order at the counter and then they bring the food to you. They only serve brunch on Sundays and breakfast until around 11 on Saturdays, so I opted for the egg + bacon/cheese on a croissant. It also came with a salad. It was a fine meal ($7) but I kind of felt like this type of bakery should have truly outstanding croissants. Perused the overpriced and underwhelming baked goods, approached the stone-faced clerk behind the counter to order coffee (60¢ extra for soy, almond or oat milk), put my eco-friendly re-usable cup on the counter, and was met with, "I'm not allowed." 3 words (a simple, "I'm sorry" would have gone a long way). Horrible horrible service. Went in to order a bagel (because I have had them at the Southport location and they're always good) while I was in south Norwalk. One couple placing an order in front of me and a decent amount of people inside eating. I place my order and pay, then not being given any direction. I step back to wait. And wait. And wait. And wait some more. At least 5-6 more people walk in, place orders and leave with their items. I walk back to the cashier to ask if they have my order yet (I mean. It's a bagel that I asked to have lightly toasted, how long does this take? Especially when everyone else was just getting pastries and leaving?). The guy says - we are very backed up and they will bring it out when it's ready. Well thanks - maybe you should have told me how it all works. Because southport doesn't operate this way. I walk over to the side (where I can now see in the kitchen) and notice a server walk over and grab a box, start walking around with it and then finally walk to me to ask if it's mine. Yes finally! I open it to make sure (because at this point I'm skeptical) and it's my bagel. Burnt. Listen. I asked for it lightly toasted. Again. Everyone else seems to get this concept. So I ask if they can redo it (reluctantly because it would probably take another 15 min) and they told me that's the last plain bagel. Guess I'm S out of luck. Sorry but this is the OG place. Went here to get takeout breakfast- got one egg and one egg white omelette on the most delicious English muffin ever- so soft, tasty and flavorful and it had applewood bacon and cheese. There was a sign on the entrance that told you to use other door to exit - there were 3 people picking up orders including g me and I was the only one to pay attention and the girls working said nothing to them- another reason it's going to be dangerous out there with more people out. They annoy me. Honestly. The entire staff @ both locations need to go to some type of customer service training. The servers are rude. Impersonal. And they act as if you patronizing their place of employment is doing YOU a favor. The pastries are very nice. The cupcakes are sweet & slightly moist. The cheesecake actually had lumps in it and wasnt very good over all & @ $35 I expected it to be excellent. The croissants are very good although small. Overall the breads are good. However, the mâché is definitely not that great. I have had so much better. There are some truly wonderful boulangerie as well as excellent patisserie in the area. I stopped in with a few friends for breakfast on Saturday morning and ordered the Western omelet with bacon, cheddar, onions and a slew of other veggies. Served with toast and well-seasoned homefries, it was the perfect choice to start the day. Watching your waistline is torture here because the pastries, cakes and other confections are simply decadent. I have been going to Sono Baking 3x a week for the last few years. After today, I'm done. The food has gone downhill. There was a piece of napkin in my egg sandwich, one of my friends threw up an hour later from the breakfast sandwich, and they also messed up the order. We asked for crispy bacon on our sandwiches. It was just a fatty disgusting piece instead. Maybe it's too much to ask. This place has some of the WORST service I've ever experienced. Their staff is rude and pretentious. When I asked one guy what the specials were, he said "read the menu." Same guy wouldn't tell me what the soup of the day was at 11:15 because he didn't have his specials list yet...not like he couldn't have walked 10 feet behind him in the kitchen to ask the chef what he's been cooking for the last 5 hours. Did I mention that every time I go there after 2 the first thing they say is "the kitchen is closed," not hello how are you. This is EVERYTIME. SoNo baking did not live up to my expectations, in spite of the excellent company I went with. The salad nicoise (at $12), consists of lettuce, Kalamata olives and a few other veggies. There is no tuna, egg, or other protein. The chefs at this restaurant may be interested to learn that salad Nicoise typically includes PROTEIN as indicated above, blanched green beans, potatoes, FRENCH OLIVES and a vinaigrette that contains mustard. I have been waiting to try their delicious fayre since my ex, Mr Long Beach raved about their bread - trust me it was probably the most enthusiastic I ever saw him, during our brief love-in :0) The drive from NY was about as Thelma and Louise unlike as possible. I slept half of the way and woke up in time to diss then join in with Ms P, to some horrific 80s Power Ballads and drivetime rock tunes. When we arrived it was around noon. Quiet enough to get a table, but lively enough to experience a warm friendly atmosphere. The bakery itself is pretty small, but fortunately we were lucky to get a table. I ordered an American classic - a grilled cheese sandwich on wholewheat bread. It was sensational. The bread was a deliciously light and nutty. The cheese was mellow, but beautifully complimented by a twist of pepper and melted perfectly. How do you follow the perfect sandwich with an equally sensational lemon tart. A buttery shortcrust base, was filled with a zesty lemon filling, just short of being too sour. I washed it down with a flat coffee and the contented air of a well fed diva. Worth a return road trip? I was a big fan once the place opened years ago and after coming on several occasions with negative experiences I decided not to come ever again.
