Save yourself and book somewhere else. Not long after they opened, I had an appointment before leaving for Cancun, and they called me the day of to cancel it because someone didn't show up or something. It's a mess trying to get waxed at the last minute, but I didn't review then because things happen. This time I made an appointment in advance for 2:30. A couple days ago I called and said that I needed to push it to 3, the lady said she couldn't. I said, "damn, I hope I make it in time." After I got off the phone she sent me a super passive aggressive text that if I'm 15 minutes late, I wouldn't get all of my services done. Fine. I'm never late, so that is not a problem. So, they call me at 2 today and asked if I was near since my appointment was at 2. I told them it was 2:30, but I'd be there early. I got there at 2:15 and they showed me that my appointment was at 2, and that they can't do all my services. I showed them my email (which clearly says 2:30) - but they would not honor that and offered to only do part of the services I requested. The only saving grace was that they canceled my appointment without a fee. But, after the person I talked to the other day clearly changed my appointment time, I have no faith in that statement and assume I will have to argue charges with my credit card company once they post. Save yourself. Looking at other reviews on here, it seems like they have a front desk staff person that has some issues. Check out the spa at Equinox. They are lovely, and fit me in today even though I was probably not the nicest person on the phone after I was losing my mind walking home from this place. read more

It's pretty rare I take the time to write up a review of any kind. I was a regular customer of Waxing the City LA + Boston for the past 5 years but decided not to return after my experience this past week. I used to live around the corner from Waxing the City Boston and could easily walk to the salon. I don't recall ever being late to an appointment. However, during COVID my husband and I had to move to the suburbs like many people and I now live between a 25-45 minute drive away. I had continued to drive in despite the inconvenience because I loved Agne. This past Thursday I made an appointment with someone other than Agne bc my schedule didn't align with hers. Figured the service must be comparable across providers at the same place. Boston was in a huge rain storm and there was an accident in the 93 tunnel, where I was stuck without phone reception for over a half hour. When I showed up admittedly about 25 minutes late, no one was working the front counter; things looked totally abandoned. I took a seat and proceeded to wait. ALMOST 20 MINUTES LATER a woman finally came out and told me in a very patronizing voice that I was too late for my appointment to do anything, and "should have texted them back" to let them know I was running late. This is already hard if you're operating a car in the rain but impossible if you're also stuck in a tunnel. When I pointed this out plus that I HAD been waiting in the lobby for 15-20 minutes I was told fine, she could do just my brows quickly. I offered to kill time in the North End and come back for a later appointment but was told there were "no openings" the rest of the night. When I left there was still no one in the waiting room. I obviously don't expect to be completely accommodated when I am late, but I don't appreciate passive aggression and how much my time was ultimately wasted. I would rather deal with the inconvenience of finding a new place than risk dealing with this staff member again. Won't be returning. read more

Waxing the City is very clean and has a modern feel to it in the lobby. My technician Glendy was both very nice and did a great job. It was also my least painful experience I've ever had with waxing. The place is nice and clean but the actual outcome was not great. I got my eyebrows waxed and she showed me the result afterward without any attempt to clean up with tweezers. There were hairs that were very obvious and long enough for tweezers, but she made no attempt to clean them up. After I asked her to clean it up, she did not know how to use the tweezers, she wasn't pulling anything and ended up going back in with the wax. They just nowhere near as clean as I expected my eyebrows to look, which is a shame since I live right around the corner and this would have been so convenient! I went here once a couple years back and wasn't particularly impressed, but I wanted to find a salon close to me that I could pop into during a lunch break or right after work. So, I crossed my fingers that it had been a fluke or something, and scheduled an appointment for last week. It wasn't. The same thing happened. I really, really wanted to love this place. But it's been just over a week since I got my waxing done, and half the hair has already grown back. Looks like a lot of the hair follicles got broken rather than properly pulled out, which is really too bad considering the price of getting waxed, well, anywhere. If I only wanted smooth skin for a couple days, I would've shaved. The place is clean and the techs are super friendly, but whatever they're doing (I don't know if it's the wax or what) really isn't working. read more

Coming from European Wax Center, this place was definitely a nice change. They really value service and take their time with you. They step out to give you privacy and are extremely patient. My waxer would always go over with tweezers afterwards to make sure she got everything and our conversations were always so pleasant! I came here earlier when they had just opened and had a gilt city voucher. Their policy may have changed now, but at my first appointment I asked if I was able to tip via card and didn't have a problem. The second time I went, I asked the receptionist again before and she confirmed that I could tip on card, but when it was time for me to pay, I believe the manager was at the front desk and I ended up having to buy a pair of exfoliating gloves so that I could tip on my card. I didn't like how I was essentially forced to buy something just so I could tip on the card and it's not like they don't allow you to tip on the card period -- you just have to buy something first, especially since I did it before! Again, this may have changed but that was the one thing I didn't like. read more

I woke up feeling bold one day and decided to book my first ever Brazilian. After researching several places in Boston, I decided to go with Waxing the City because of the highly rated reviews. The experience was positive from beginning to end. Booking an appointment was a breeze because I could do it online and it didn't require pulling out a credit card. A day or so later a got a voicemail confirming my appointment. On the day of my appointment, I was warmly greeted by a receptionist, who handed me a few sheets to fill out (liability waiver, allergies, etc). And then Bess, my Brazilian tech, came out and whisked me away to a cozy room where the deed was to be performed. I was kinda nervous, it being my first time and all. I've done bikini waxes before, but Brazilians felt like a different beast to tackle. Bess made me feel more comfortable by offering me sanitary wipes and briefly explaining the procedure. Then she dived right into it. The whole experience lasted around 15min. She distracted me with talking about life, offering skin care advice, and reminding me that I was doing fine and the process was almost over. When she was done waxing, she took the care to tweeze any remaining strays. Waxing hurts, but not nearly as much as I thought it would. I've had no adverse reaction so far and the price was spot on in my price range. The Brazilian here normally goes for $55, but first timers get an additional 25% off! I have absolutely no complaints about this place and plan to visit again for my waxing needs. read more

A waxing salon run exactly like a fast-food chain! Waxing in the City is a new waxing salon that accepts male clients. It is clean since they just opened, however, if you are looking for a quality waxing service this is not for you! If you are looking for quick, walk-in, no customer care, mediocre waxing and just wants the job done without care this could be a fit for you then. I've had Brazilian waxing for several years, paused for just over a year and decided to resume, so I found Waxing the City on Yelp, it's close to work so I booked my appointment days in advance, I called to confirm the type of male Brazilian waxing. I arrived on time, after being checked in warmly by Marianna she introduced me to Technician Kylee. Unfortunstely, my experience was horrible for the reason that the waxing service was similar to a fast food chain. Technician had no rapport and customer care whatsoever, showing no empathy during waxing, rushing to strip hair quickly, without offering to pause to give one a breather or consider waxing other less painful areas. The worst part of it was I clearly explained I wanted a modified, not a complete Brazilian wax but instead leave a triangular patch of hair, to my surprise she stripped almost all of it and when asked she said she missed that critical information. After explaining that to leave the remaining hair and keep a triangular shaped patched, instead to realize after a couple of minutes later that the technician was instead making a square strip instead of a triangle. The technician pointed out the whole process is for 30 minutes, so just before that time was over, she claims that waxing was complete, even though there are hairs left particularly around the navel/belly button. Just like a fast-food chain, there's a self-service part, so the technician just asked me to read the post-care waxing instructions from the paper she handed attached to several copies of her business card. As I mentioned from the start, if you are looking for a fast food company like Waxing service, this place might be your bet, a rushed service with max time of 30 minutes, no post care instructions would be given (just read them from their handout), any questions client's will ask would take away time for waxing leading to a partially completed asymmetric waxing from a Technician who does not care to listen client's preferences. Well her brilliant answer when you see her work at the end is: "don't worry, your hair will grow back anyway!" A very disappointing reply instead of an apologetic answer after admitting she made a mistake during waxing. read more

After booking the appointment, I was sent a message about this when I had little time to think about cancelling without any cancellation fee. I booked an appointment online in the morning for the beginning of the afternoon. I got there, the place is super clean and the lady at the front desk was very nice. I had to fill out a paper with name, address, allergy if any etc. And then Kylee took care of my eyebrows. Very friendly and professional! No pain at all, she makes you feel confortable. We talked about random things while she was doing my eyebrows. I had the 50% off for my first time there. And it was definitely WORTH IT! Im just in love with my brows. I've been getting brazilians for years and usually go to another waxing chain in boston but decided to test out WtC. So glad I did! I'd say this is the best and most painless one I've ever gotten. Morgan was my 'cerologist' (waxer) and she was great- super nice and professional and knew what she was doing. She told me that WtC places more of a premium on the comfort of their clients than being in and out in 15 minutes (like other places), which was nice to hear. The wax they use is the best I've ever encountered- something about it made the brazilian less painful, which is always appreciated. All of the staff I encountered there was professional and nice. I have not used the facility yet, but very disappointed with the customer service while booking my appointment. I booked an appointment yesterday, but due to a family emergency today I have to fly home and therefore cancel my appointment. I called to cancel, however they said since I'm cancelling within 24 hours that my credit card will be charged 50% of the price (almost $100). I told the owner my situation, but he was not willing to help me out to refund the money. Instead, I was forced to book another appointment later on where I can "use" the money I was charged. This is a scamming wax salon, and places like European Wax Centre have MUCH better prices & service when you call. read more
