I have been to several European Wax Center locations, but I started regularly coming to the Newbury Street location in early 2018 because of a fabulous experience with Yuri. I have been getting Brazilian waxes for years and no one has made me feel as comfortable as Yuri has during the process. She is so genuine and friendly, the results are great, and she's very attentive. We have had so many nice conversations and she never tries to oversell me any products. I got notified this week that Yuri no longer works here, so I'm not sure who I will see going forward, as the next person is going to have big shoes to fill given my amazing experiences with Yuri! read more

I arrived for my 2:45 appointment today 15 minutes early to find the door locked and two other customers standing outside. They had been waiting ten minutes and both had appointments. A friendly business owner upstairs told us that the staff had closed at 11am today and that this is not the first time they have done something like this to customers with appointments. I never received any notice of my appointment being cancelled and took two trains and walked to get to my appointment. I am a first time customer and this is super disappointing. read more

I came here a handful of times 6 or 7 years ago and it was great. I just went again yesterday and it was a drastically different experience. The wax specialist's style was unlike any other wax experience I had ever had. She was nice and conversational, but she was slathering thick layers of wax with no semblance of sectioning, and then ripping it off slowly with no warning. I have a high pain tolerance and have never felt unbearable discomfort during a wax, but yesterday I was audibly cursing and it was borderline unbearable. She was sloppily getting wax in my actual vagina (lol) and ripping off huge chunks with seemingly no method whatsoever. I actually think she ripped off a little skin as I was bleeding the rest of the day and am still in pain. I don't recommend this location whatsoever - go literally anywhere else read more

My service today at European wax center was wonderful, I had a great experience with my waxer she was friendly, officiant, and very sweet! However I was severely disappointed with how management handled my check out. When asked if I wanted to sign up for the membership, which I pleasantly declined was abrasive, rude and extremely pushy trying to make me feel guilty for not wanting to purchase a package. When I mentioned that " no thank you I am all set for a membership today, I usually do my eyebrows at home but was looking for an easier experience" she rudely responded and continued pushing for the package while also implying that I was stupid for not signing up. overall I wish the waxer who did my eyebrows today was located at a different location because I would love to go back to her, but will not go back to newbury street because of management. very disappointing, very offended read more

I have been going to EWCs for the last 10 years and I just had my WORST experience at this location. The person doing my wax waxed off HALF of my eyebrow and did not seem to even care. She hands me the mirror and just says "I think I waxed too much". And on top of that there was so much hair still on my neck when she was done. After I complained, I still have to pay for my appointment in FULL. I would avoid this location if you can. And this is coming from someone who has been getting waxed once a month for over a decade and has never complained. read more

This service literally left me in tears and it's not because of the pain. I'm a young woman with a really high pain tolerance, I've been getting waxed my whole life and never flinch. I had a really horrible time with JP today. I know exactly what I want and I wasn't even given a chance to explain my preference! She just went straight into laying the wax all over! When I explained what I wanted, she said "oh well I already put the wax down, so..." I understand that most people are very simple but when it comes to intimate areas or eyebrows or anything personal of that sort it's important to understand what clients want. I'm now left with half of my vulva bare because she laid down wax and the other half in the style I requested. I literally cried on the walk home because I'm so unconfident in myself after this. Other European wax centers are not like this. I expected a certain standard to be upheld and it wasn't. She ripped the wax of very slowly and caused more pain than needed. There was no pressure applied to the area directly after to soothe and she didn't address any ingrown she saw. We didn't even go over aftercare of any sort! The front desk lady was nice but didn't seem too concerned when I told her my experience was just okay and not that good. Definitely one of the worst personal care services I've ever experienced. I had an appt today for a simple underarm wax at 3pm. I arrived promptly at 3pm and was checked in. 6 minutes later I asked if the waxer was almost done because I was still waiting and I was in a time crunch. The young woman at the front desk whom did not seem very happy to be there said she had checked me in and could not give me an estimate. So I figured the waxer must have been in there with a client. Well a minute later the waxer came out. There was nobody in her room. She just decided to attend me 7 mins after my appointment. I said, there was nobody in there?? The woman at the front desk didn't know what to say. And then to top it off the waxer literally gave my underarms one strip. I've been getting waxed for almost a decade. It's always at least 2 strips. Come on now. Get it together. read more

In general, I am a fan of EWC and I alternate between going to the location in Dedham and this location on Newbury. I've been to this location twice now. The first time I came here for a brow and lip wax, I was not very happy with the experience. The brow wax was totally fine and the end product was a nice shape, but during the lip wax, the technician lifted off a portion of my skin and that was uncomfortable for a few days until it healed. What irked me more than the skin removal was that the technician was really unprofessional- maybe because she was trying come across as cool and fun- but I found her obscenity laced language inappropriate for a supposedly classy place on Newbury. Lots of f bombs and other foul words were dropped into casual conversation. Nothing she said was personally offensive or directed at me, but I just found her demeanor very off-putting. The last eyebrow wax here I had was very good. I was a little put off by the disorderly appearance of the waxing counter in the room, but the technician I had this time (Molly) was extremely friendly and professional and did a really nice job shaping my brows. She also did not use any unprofessional, foul language, unlike the first technician I had here, whose name I have no desire to remember. I'd like to see the management remind their staff that many people would prefer not to have their waxing sessions with a side of profanity. Reception here has always been professional to me, but they try to sell you packages rather aggressively. Also, I thought it was a bit obnoxious that even though I came in the last time as a walk in, the receptionist felt it necessary to advise me of their 9 minute late policy. I was like, um, I am standing right here, how can I be 9 minutes late, why are you even telling me this? Also, not being able to tip under $5 on your credit card is not cool and I wonder whether this might be a violation of the terms of service with their credit card companies. If your service is only $20, you'd have to leave a 25% tip to be able to put it on your card. Bring cash for tips if you're just getting one service. This location is super convenient for me after work and none of the waxes themselves have been that bad, so I keep coming back, but there are just certain things about this place that make it less than ideal. read more

I've never left a negative review, but i had the first bad waxing experience of my life at this location. I've been to a few EWCs in other states before so during my Boston visit I stopped in. The check in and front desk attended who was training was just lovely but when I went in the wax was the most uncomfortable and painful wax i've ever had. I know they have an under 15 minute limit but my wax took SEVEN minutes. When i walked out the women at the front counter even commented how quick that was. It was so fast and uncomfortable and painful. i've been getting waxed for years and had to repeatedly ask the esthetician to stop for a breather, which i have never done. there was so much hair left i actually had to shave and there was so much wax left because she didn't clean up after throughly that my sweatpants were stuck to me until i showered. There were wax bits still stuck to hair i had to pull off. So rushed, inconsiderate and uncomfortable. Would not recommend this location. read more

I had my first brazilian wax in several years here and I had hoped that because of the reviews it would be better than the one I had years ago. I was pretty disappointed. My waxer was very friendly but she seemed rushed and when I asked if we could take a break because of the pain she said "I wish but they only give me 15 minutes for this." I am kinda shocked that the time limit on a Brazilian is 15 minutes. There is a lot of hair growing in different directions in that area and the waxers should take as long as they need to make the customer comfortable and do a good job! When she was unable to remove some of the hair in one patch she said she would try her best but "we can only go over one spot four times". Why is there a limit? You should go until you get all of the hair! She proceeded to try and get the remaining hairs out with tweezers but she stopped after a minute or so, and there were still several hairs left she could have gotten. I could have gotten them myself if she handed the tweezers to me. She offered to touch it back up the next day if I came back in but my schedule did not allow. Overall, it was a really horrible experience that scarred me from bikini waxing possible for the rest of my life. read more

I have been a client here for years and the customer service never fails to disappoint. After being given a stern talking to about rescheduling appointments(which are usually incorrectly scheduled even if they are pre-booked) by a receptionist, I received a call today a few hours before my appointment to be told by appointment was being cancelled due to the predicted snow(despite the fact that it has not even started snowing yet). Worst part is, the next available appointment is not until sometime this weekend. I understand people can't control the weather but come on! The one positive note I can give is that Elen is one of the best people I have ever seen for waxing. If it was not for her, I probably would have stopped coming to this location a long time ago. read more

Do not, I repeat do not come to this location. I will preface by saying that i have been a loyal customer of European Wax Center for over a year both in Boston and San Francisco but after my experience here on August 1st I will definitely not be returning to this location. First, Felicia was well over 5 minutes late for my appointment even though I was 10 minutes early. Felicia barely took any time to consult me about what shape I was looking for my eyebrows. She then proceeded to roughly wax and pluck my brows leaving several nicks and cuts all over my brow area. After less than 5 minutes I was brought back to the reception area before I could figure out what had happened. Once I returned home I saw the damage done and also realized that there were still several stray hairs all over my face. It's very clear the business model here is to rush everyone through their appointment and make as much money as possible without care for the client's wants and needs. have had multiple services here before with lovely waxers (Beata, Jyssica) and was willing to try someone new, her name was Hannah. I wanted a bikini line since I'm sensitive, but Hannah insited I get the full, she also insisted I get my eyebrows, arms, legs and stomach waxed. I insisted no to the services and the full but she persisted, making me feel self conscious. Throughout the wax I was tense and flinching, she continuously laughed and mocked me throughout the appointment. ALL WAXERS SHOULD MAKE YOU FEEL COMFORTABLE! For some of us, this already is an uncomfortable situation and I left European Wax feeling self-conscious and discouraged from getting waxes ever again. read more

I had an absolutely horrendous first experience getting my eyebrows waxed here. As a new client, I had no idea what to expect, but from all of the content on the website and the fact that this place specializes in only waxing, I expected to have a pleasant experience. Unfortunately, that did not happen. Right off the bat, the technician Molly, got straight into waxing my eyebrows with absolutely no consultation. I had to proactively ask her what her game plan was, and she responded very generically - "take some off the top for shape, bottom and then tweeze some." That's absolutely not helpful at all. I mentioned that I wanted "soft angled brows" per the website, but she didn't even attempt to acknowledge this. Frankly, she could have cared less about anything that I said or even that I was getting married in two weeks. I was hoping she would be more careful given the upcoming events. She was also extremely rough when taking off the wax. I had quite a bit of overgrowth, but wince after wince, when the wax was being taken off, should have signaled to be a bit more gentle and pat the skin after the wax has been pulled off to soothe the skin momentarily. Overall, she made my eyebrows very thin, making my face look harsh. I purposely had been growing my eyebrows out for months to make them thicker ahead of the wedding. For one of the top-of-the-line waxing shops, I expected SO MUCH MORE than the service that I received. The technicians need to be trained on customer service. read more

Yuri has been my go to Brazilian waxer since I moved to Back Bay 4 months ago. She's always on time. She makes the embarrassment of putting it all out there, a little less awkward, and the pain tolerable. For those of you who don't know, at EWC the technician always stays in the the room. There's no time for feeling shy when pulling down your pants in front of a complete stranger. For that reason, sometimes it's tough to test multiple technicians out. Let me save you the time and recommend Yuri. I always have great conversations with her and feel she's done beautiful jobs on my underarms and Brazilians. The only reason why EWC isn't a 5-star establishment is due to their front desk. It's really hit or miss with their customer service, but it's always different women working whenever I come in. For such a prime location, I feel EWC should have all front-desk staff that are comparable to their wonderful technicians. read more

Love the franchise. First time at this location. First thing I noticed- you just walk through the door and they are already shouting if u have an appointment. This was on the rude side... Let people get in the door at least. Overall, the service here is lacking compared to other locations. With regards to the waxing, my waxer was beata and she is fantastic. Honestly, the best. She does a very thorough job and is simply great! 4 stars for Lisa, 2 stars for the front desk. Another problem- they have a 9 minute late policy. If you are 9 minutes late they cancel your whole appointment and would let you cancel just one of the various services to accommodate your time. Despite having such a strict late policy, THEY ARE ALWAYS LATE TO BRING YOU INTO YOUR APPOINTMENT. Double standards much? read more

I've been coming here for 1 year. They always have some kind of deal going on: student discounts, and buy 9 get 3 free, etc. Great service and great location. I've seen several different waxers and some are definitely better than others. I highly recommend Beata and Suzanne if you're getting a bikini or brazillian! I took off a few stars because I hate dealing with the people in the front desk. You can easily book appointments online, but you have to call to cancel or reschedule. The people at the front desk can be so rude, in person and on the phone. And sometimes they have absolutely no idea what they're talking about. I've had so many bad experiences talking and booking with them. They have a 9 min late policy. I was not aware of it before and I came in maybe like 11 or 12 min late because of traffic. They lady told me that since I was past 9 mins late I cannot be seen. I told her I thought it was a 15 min grace period and she laughed in my face and said that never existed. As I head towards the door, she yells out that if I continue to be late I will no longer be able to book appointments ahead of time and will only be able to do walk-ins... The good thing is that EWC has so many locations around MA and around the country. So you can still get your wax when you're out of state. I've been to a few other locations before and the staff were much friendlier. read more

This place is a flaky and they cancel on you very last minute. After two cancellations and rescheduling, and a $30 Uber ride, I showed up to hear -"we only have time for one service, pick one". She was going to call me at 4 for a 4pm appointment. Is it fair? Get your scheduling act together! read more

I had a brow wax with Beata. I come to EWC because hard wax is usually relatively painless. What I experienced today was almost unbearable. Beata didn't apply pressure after ripping the wax off. I've never experienced this before. She also put the wax almost to my hairline - much too far for a brow wax. I'm no Neanderthal - my eyebrow hair doesn't grow past my brow bone. Not only was it painful; Beata also did a sloppy job. We discussed what I wanted - simple clean up and please keep my arches. Instead she got rid of my shape and I now have a noticeable gap on my left brow. The cherry on top was that after she trimmed my shapeless painful brows she briskly wiped my face down with rough paper towels. She told me she was out of tissues and had to use "this harsh paper towel." I'm red, irritated and in pain. As someone who use to be waxed at a nail salon with much too hot strip wax, this is still the worst experience I've had. read more

Don't be fooled by the name or glossy marketing - this is a basic, no frills shop, rude receptionists. Got a decent wax from Colleen but won't be returning due to overly rude front desk both upon checking in and out (how is that even possible). Quite a pity and unfortunate given its location on Newbury - so many better shops. Environment is sterile and clinical with ghastly overly bright lighting. read more

My first time here and i got a full brazillian wax by Tina and she did a excellent job. I was afraid to show it to her for the first time but after had her experience I would said she did a perfect job! I come here on a regular basis, and never even think about going anywhere else. I initially came because of the different type of wax they use, and from other reviews who commented on how painless it is because of this. FYI- I usually do underarms and a Brazilian. I use to do eyebrows as well but stopped because it is the ONLY service I actually find more painful than regular waxing. But anyways, Brazilian and underarms...so much less painful! Usually after regular waxings, my skin would be red and tender. After the hard wax it is barely even pink; and not tender to touch at all. The process is fast and SO much better, I would never go back to any other type of wax. I have tried a few different wax specialists and they have all been great. But a couple of my regulars have left, so I now go to Beata and would definitely recommend her. She is VERY good. I also use the wax pass. Basically I buy 9 visits and get two visits free, but you pay in installments, not all at once. When I actually go in I only have to leave a tip. I enjoy this process because I consistently go every 4-5 weeks. But if you miss one or don't go as regularly it's ok because it doesn't expire. They also now have an app where you can make or change reservations which is also super helpful to finding your preferred wax specialist and time. I always pre-book at the end of my appointment because they are so busy! Also you get points for pre booking and can use these points to save money once they accumulate. read more

Wow I am so impressed by Jenny! I got a brazilian, underarm and legs done by her. Compared to other wax specialists, this is why Id recommend her: -friendly and professional -less painful than other wax specialists! She held my skin and used her hands to go over the skin after it was waxed. This made the waxing itself less painful. -after she waxes an area, she tells you to check it for final approval. I think the most important thing you can do is to minimize the pain as much as possible and She did a really great job of not making it hurt!!! read more

I've seen Jessica a couple times for my brows and she does a really good job. Overall I'd say this place is kind of impersonal (yes, they do turn people out very quickly, and must have at least a half dozen waxing rooms and make a point to tell you that if you are more than 9(?) minutes late they may not be able to keep your appointment). Regardless, Jessica is friendly and makes easy conversation to distract me from the quick pain. She does a solid job.. maybe not the best I've ever had (she occasionally misses a few strays), but she's on point with the shape. Also first wax free, and they seem to have a lot of specials.. it was buy 9 waxes, get 3 free, which I jumped on. It worked out to be a little less than $14/a wax overall, and you're not going to find a better price in the area. this is the first time i've been to this location. the reviews made me very iffy especially since the location i usually go to is amazing (in another state). i got a brazilian with jyssica and she was amazing. i was comfortable the entire time and i recommend going to jyssica. the front desk, however, as i know there has been other reviews about how the front desk is not welcoming and i do have to agree it is not welcoming. it is not like they were extremely rude but for the price you're paying for the services it doesn't hurt for the front desk people to be more welcoming. i also called them to, to ask a question and there was no hi or goodbye and after they answered my question they immediately ended the call without even waiting to see if i needed to clarify or have another question read more

I had my Brazilian wax there. It was the very first time that I waxed any body parts. I got a Brazilian wax and underarms. My friend referred me to Ellen and she was amazing. I was scared but she was extremely patient with me. I've been going to European Wax Center for over 2 years. Everywhere I've moved I've gone with them, especially now that I found the only person that can do my eye brows right (Leah). However, I've very displeased with their late policy. After having to wait over 20 minutes on multiple occasions, the last thing I want to be told, when I call and let them know I'm running a bit late because of issues with the T, is that I have only 9 minutes after my appointment time to get there or I will have to be rescheduled. Being one of the first repeat customers at the Newbury location I expected more, given I've had to wait almost every single other time I've been there. Even today it's been 20 min since my appointment time (and I made it at my appointment time) and I'm still waiting. read more

I have gone to Jyssica for almost 4 years now. She is the best and never makes the experience dull. She always remembers me and we talk through the whole waxing time. It is always painless and she makes sure to check if i'm okay after each pull. I tried to go to another location because it was closer, but I regretted it the one time I did.
