listen , i used to love waxing the city . i have been coming for a few years now for brazilians and eyebrow waxing and even leg waxing this place has truly gone down hill and it's saddening however i was there about a month ago for a wax and it was truly the worst experience i've ever had . the cerologist was like .. digging in my skin ( mind you this was a brazilian ) to get my ingrowns with absolutely no warning , would go over the same spot multiple times and was so rough about the whole thing . honestly debating going somewhere else solely bc i've never had such an uncomfortable , painful , unprofessional experience . i think she's new but really that's no excuse .. read more

Replying to owner , I wasn't charged a cancellation fee because I showed up and brought my car seat in , I payed full price and have the receipt to prove .. like I've mentioned before I believe that you should charge customers who cancel frequently not punish/charge ones who don't . I canceled once last year 24 hours in advance that is it .. thanks I'm updating my review not on this location but the company in general , god forbid a emergency come up and you have to cancel less than 24 hours in advance you will be made to pay 50% of your service 50% !?? For a service I didn't receive you charge your customers 50% and expect to keep them around ?! That is absolutely ridiculous. So what did I do ? I walked in with my son / didn't have a stroller (reason I needed to cancel someone was supposed to be watching him) and the still didn't cancel my appointment they asked me to get my big car seat out of my car to put him in and asked me to not bring him next time . DUH who wants to bring their child to an appointment like this ?! Who wants to take a huge 4-1 car seat out of their car to put their child in while they get serviced , but I'm not about to pay a cancellation fee either . Came here with a free promo. Very minimalist set up. Very friendly staff, attentive. I like that they have a mandatory review card at check out. I recieved eyebrow tinting, i never had that done before, I didnt notice any difference. I would only return if i recieved a good deal only because it's rather far and kinda chain like. Jasmine, the manager, booked me an appointment for 9:30 on June 3, 2024 at Waxing the City for a full-face wax and eyebrow tint. She assured me that the tech would have enough time to do both of the services.. I had a work affair to attend at 3:00. Some when I arrived at Waxing the city. The staff was very un professional and stated either I get the brow tinted or the full face wax. I would not be able to get both.Because they had over book. Then they started talking about other clients and how they weren't going to make them wait . For what reason, I don't know. But to make this long story short. Been here three times now and i love this place . The wax they use doesn't hurt at all. They said it's specifically used at waxing in the city. They have specials all the time and if you follow there Facebook page they give away free wax sessions when they get a new associate in the office. Had my very first visit to Waxing the City Virginia Beach today. This is not my first experience with a waxing salon, so my expectations were high. I was very impressed with the treatment received. My husband is in the military so my patronage has gone from DC to San Diego, to small towns in the Carolinas and beyond. Of all my years of waxing (since 2005) this was one of the best service experiences I have received. When I searched online for a new salon, I found the ability to book online to be extremely convenient. I was able to see exactly which providers were available as well as the times and dates that worked for me. I am traveling tomorrow so booking for today worked out perfectly. I was able to easily find their location. Once inside I was greeted by friendly staff and given my consent forms to fill out. They confirmed the services I had booked and my esthetician was notified of my arrival. While I was filling out my form I heard the receptionist ask a person waiting on a friend if she would like some water. I thought that was very kind. My esthetician was Taylor. She came out, introduced herself and shook my hand. She asked if I need the restroom before we got started, and then after showing her treatment room she explained her procedures and left to give me a moment. Upon her return, Taylor was fantastic! She was like a sister or close friend from the start. She was very personable and knowledgeable about her profession (Her license was openly displayed on the shelf). We chatted about this and that, joked, laughed, talked about other services I was interested in and before I knew it we were done! She explained her suggestions for immediate and continued care. Then stepped out to give me a moment to freshen up and met me at the desk. Before I left she suggested a few products we had discussed and left me to finish my transaction with the front desk. Overall I found the salon/studio to be modern, clean and inviting; not cluttered or cold. The staff were all very friendly and polite. My treatment received was exceptional. I would rate Taylor's abilities, knowledge and professionalism at some of the highest I have experienced in over 12 years. I've been having my back and upper arms waxed for years and this was by far the worst experience. Let me be clear the technician was very kind and personable but the quality of work was poor. I sat up from the table and the paper was still stuck to my back because of left over wax and I had powder and wax drippings all over my arms not to mention way too much hair was left behind. I spent over 100 dollars because I would have felt aweful if I didn't tip. I'm sorry to say that I will not be a returning customer. I will go back to Jake's Place in Norfolk. Update as of 6/16: I was very impressed by the customer service and returned to see Ashley today. She did an incredible job with my brows per usual. They are still growing back in, but she took her time and was careful to wax and pluck around the new growth before going back for shaping. She even filled them in for me! She's so fun and is very very good at what she does if you're looking for a brow girl! (Or lip! I get both done, and I can confidently say she is good at it all). Thanks for the great response and customer service from my previous experience. Great company! First experience with fantastic. Ashley made sure to keep my brows thick and with good shape as requested. Second experience....not so much. I had a different person and was asked "just a clean up? You like them thick?" I responded yes and even proceeded to tell her about my terrible experience with threading and being left with thin brows. I'm currently left with pencil thin brows after this visit and am very disappointed. I'll be back to see Ashley but was hoping I would have had the same experience no matter which cerologist worked with me. Unfortunately, that was not the case. I went for the first time a few years ago for a bikini wax, and I have been quite often(as soon as the hair grows long enough). It takes a while for the hair to return. Came in on Saturday morning to get my eye brows done. I used to get my eye brows threaded and they totally jacked them up so I needed some HELP. I had an appointment with Ashley. She did not RUSH. She took her TIME! It was not a 5 min appointment like some places I've been. She gave me some tips and even took her time to teach me how to put on eyebrow gel. I am SO HAPPY with the result! I was just in Virginia a brief visit, and this place is legit, I drove from Norfolk to this location to get waxed. Salons may offer waxing, but this location specializes in waxing! My experience here was great, I had Leah and she made my waxing process as painless as possible, and she helped to clean up any ingrown hairs. They are now completely thinned out and have a completely different shape. I feel like I don't even look like myself anymore. So disappointed. I just moved here from CA and was recommended this place for my brows. I arrived and the place was cute & staff was friendly but I immediately got nervous when I realized the business was a chain. The girl who waxed asked me what shape I wanted which I've never been asked before because I'm used to the esthetician being the expert and telling me where I need to grow and where I need to clean up. I just told her I've been trying to grow them out so to just clean it up. The waxing felt fine but then she started cutting with scissors and I felt my body tense up. My brows aren't super thick and like I said I've been growing them out slowly for years so when i heard what sounded like bangs getting trimmed my heart dropped. At that point it was obviously too late to say anything bc you can't bring the hair back, right? At the end she showed me and I quickly looked and wanted to get out of there. This review is long overdue. I have been coming to this salon for over 6 months now and I love it. I will never go anywhere else to be waxed! I originally was referred to this studio by a friend, and she told me newcomers get half off any treatment which was a great deal that I didn't want to pass up. Later I found out that my friend gets a discount for referring me so it's a win-win for everyone! I was a bit nervous, I had scheduled a Brazilian wax and have never had one done before. When I arrived for my appointment I was immediately greeted with a huge smile from the very friendly counter girl (every secretary I've met since coming here has been super friendly). I had my wax done by Taylor and after having her for my first appointment, I request her every time now. I cannot say enough good things about Taylor, could seriously go on for hours. Highly professional but at the same time very laid back so that the customer still feels relaxed. She left the room to let me get undressed and clean myself up a bit and when she came back to perform the wax I told her it was my first time and she was comforting and talked to me throughout the whole thing which made it so much more bearable and it felt like it was done super fast. Now every month I come to my appointments with Taylor it doesn't feel like I'm getting painful beauty maintenance done, but more like I'm visiting a friend. I have been made to feel so at home and at ease, and the waxing hurts less and less the more you go. I've seen groupons and things for other waxing salons that I could check out if I wanted to bargain hunt, but instead I'm happy to pay the full (reasonable) price of Wax in the City so that I can continue to give this business my support. They also frequently have great deals to save money for both newcomers and regulars alike. If you're looking for a new waxing salon then this is it, don't go anywhere else! Original post: Will not be back, very amateur and unprofessional. Been getting waxed for 7 years and worst by far. Guessing not experienced w men possibly. Scheduled w Jennah for nose and ear waxing. Started by slathering on huge glob of wax that sealed entire nostril and onto mustache. Tugged pulled and scraped on mustache trying to get off, while asking if I felt any discomfort- yes! -and I suggested using more oil to help removal. Poured oil on face and continued tugging and pulling for quite a while till all off. Never wiped excess oil off mouth or cheek. Learned that Anytime Fitness just bought the company so that explains a lot. Corporate policy prohibits waxing inside or nose or ears so for $28 I got a half-assed 'exterior' waxing that was definitely not worth my time or money. read more

I booked a wax here because I was in town and the place I usually go does not have a location near by. I want to start by saying this is a very clean and nice location. Everyone was very nice and welcoming and had a good selection of products inside. With that being said, my wax was not worth the price. I had a full leg, bikini, and underarm booked. Underarm and Bikini: Great! Would definitely rebook. My Legs: I feel like a bit less hairy then when I walked in. NOT WORTH IT. It is way too expensive here to come out with hair (like, a good amount of hair) still on my legs. They use a different type/way of waxing on your legs then they do on smaller areas of hair (such as underarm and bikini). I'm sure they have a reason, but it is not as effective AND its more painful. Overall: Would only recommend if you're not too worried about spending money and are getting small areas of hair waxed. read more

I loved this place when Alyssa was there and always had "5 star" service with her. Since then tho, I just haven't been as happy. I had a lash lift scheduled and they had to call and cancel because she was no longer with them, which is understandable since they didn't have anyone else that could do the service, I was told they were sending someone else to the training and would let me know. Fast forward to a few months later and I see that the option to book a lash lift is there again so I book and then get a call saying they have to cancel because they didn't have anyone trained to do it and they might have someone by spring. Then today, I had a wax scheduled and I drive to the other side of Virginia Beach just to walk up a locked door with a note saying they are closed today. I'm not sure why and called the number it said to call and got someone's personal voicemail. Terrible experience. I went in for a modified bikini wax (first time ever) and came out with a full brazillian. I was very nervous to begin with and feel stupid I didn't realize what was going on, but you lay down completely flat and can't see what's going on. I was given a clear gel to numb the area a bit before waxing, however it didn't work at all. I will not be back. If you go anyway, make sure to verify what waxing you are having done before starting.
