Fairly new to the area and was looking for a tasty burger spot near our Durham home. Hubs and & I stopped in Wayback Burgers Monday, January 22 around 3:00 pm. The restaurant was small, decorated with large '50's black & white photos, and fairly clean. There was a pile of overturned chairs and other miscellaneous equipment in the front left section (not corner) rendering the entire area useless for patrons. Not a deal breaker since only two other customers were in the dining space. Still excited about visiting a new dining spot and hungry, Hubs & I encouraged a customer to walk passed us while we perused the menu to decide on our order. When we were ready, we placed our burger orders with the cashier (named Che-tarrah) who was obviously having a bad day. We told her we were first-time visitors and wanted to share a side. We asked her about the difference in size between the Regular and Full Cheesy Bacon Tots. Che-tarrah responds with serious attitude -- eye & neck rolling -- "one is larger than the other." Oh....ok. Note to ourselves: We will not return to patronize a business that serves salty sarcasm with their sides. There are too many other nearby options to try, Miss Che-tarrah. Besides, the burgers weren't much tastier than what we can buy at any cheap fast food stop (think, McD's, Wendy's, and the like) for 1/2 your price. read more

Wayback Burgers is ok. Better food than McDonalds, Wendy's, Burger King etc, but I would rate below Burger Fi, Five Guys and some of the other more upscale burger places. The price definitely is more on the upscale size. A regular burger + fries + drink is over $11. Service was pretty fast but I wouldn't call it friendly. The food was actually pretty good so that is why three stars instead of fewer. I might go back to Wayback burgers, but I wouldn't go out of my way to do so. read more

Went with a coworker to Wayback Burgers for lunch and was not impressed. I ordered the Carolina Burger which was topped with cheese, slaw, chili, onions and mustard. I made it a combo with french fries and a drink. Total: almost $10. Dislikes - they have Pepsi products here. My burger patty was smushed so much when it was cooked that it was falling apart. Saw a coupon for this in our clipper magazine and thought why not? We hadn't tried it and thought a bit out of our way would be worth the free burger deal. I am certainly glad we did. Located just off 540 in what appears to be a newer shopping center with your typical walmart, it was well worth the gas and calories. Both Hubby and I had the cheesy jake burger 2 patties with mayo and onions and mine just cheese. Mud pie shake which had Oreo crumbles on the bottom. Pretty standard fries made better by great chili and cheese. Combo prices available. The grilled bread was no soggy and great as they butter it. Each month they have a special shake and burger that is not on the standard menu. It's definitely something to look forward to and try on our next visit. No regrets on wasting the calories here! Great burger, decent shakes. I've had a lot of burgers and shakes from the big names (Shake Shack, In-and-Out, Five Guys). Everybody has their own style and Jake's has got theirs down pat. The Cheesy Burger is a double patty burger with 4 slices of American cheese. The patties are tender and the buns (almost like oversize toast really) are buttered and soft. It's an oversized hamburger patty melt and I love it. This burger is a cross between Shake Shack's patties and buns and Five Guy's condiment options. The cheese fries were really cheesey. Real cheeses used, none of the plastic stuff in a can. Tasted like a mix of cheddar and jack. I only wish the fries were a little crispier (In-and-Out extra crispy anyone?). They do beat Five Guys mushy regular fries. The vanilla shake was good, but a tad too sweet. Unfortunately, they can't meet the creaminess and thickness of Shake Shack's custard. Overall, very good. I'll definitely be coming back when I'm in the area. read more

The "Carolina" was awesome and an excellent choice, although the there was some hesitation after seeing the "Rodeo". Add some "Cheese Fries" and a "Chocolate-Banana" shake and you have the makings of a serious circulation shutdown... But boy was it worth it! 2 Zantac stat! And another shake to go please. UPDATE: I survived! Yes this place was outstanding. I chose to eat-in instead of doing take out. My reasoning was simple. I'm on a business trip and this food is awesome. We had a coupon and wanted to give this location a try. So glad we did! The staff couldn't be more friendly and attentive if they tried. From start to finish, they made us feel welcome and taken care of. The burgers are bigger than we thought so next visit we'll downsize it a bit. Each month they have a sandwich and shake of the month, which can make for some very interesting combinations. They also make their own chips, regular and BBQ and the portion is plentiful, however I didn't care for the BBQ dusting. All and all a very good experience! read more

OMG! Never been here before but my daughter and I wanted a burger and not McD or Wendy's. Ordered online and went to pick up. We got a Carolina burger, cheeseburger, chili cheese fries and tater tots. Best burger hands down! The food is fast, but doesn't taste like fast food. Tater tots- eh not the best will go with fries next time! Reasonably priced and staff was nice. What a pleasant surpriseMy husband had an eye appointment at True Vision Eye Care in Morrisville,NC. After the appointment,it was around lunchtime and we were getting rather hungry. We drove around the Wal-Mart parking lot looking for something to eat. I got on yelp to find out which restaurants were good. WayBack burgers popped up,and it had really great reviews. I wanted something healthy and filling. This place had a great variety of healthy options. My husband ordered a Philly cheese steak,and I ordered a grilled turkey lettuce wrap. We also ordered their homemade chips. We were very pleased! I loved how they used a lot of high quality green leaf lettuce,tomato,and pickle to wrap my burger in. Most places only add one soggy piece of iceberg lettuce. The home made chips were out of This world! They were fresh,hot,and crispy! Some of the best chips that I have eaten in the triangle! Was disappointed when I saw the lady pulling 2 dried up pre cooked burgers from a tiny pan in corner of the grill. I could understand if it was busy but only 1 person was in the place. My husband and I visited in Wilson NC for the first time. We drove about 35 minutes hoping for a great experience. We ordered our food and the girl at the the counter completely forget to put it in. You would think paying $22+, your order would be placed with the same enthusiasm your money was taken with. After watching people enter order, get their orders and leave we inquired about our order. The cook stated he never received our order. The young lady that took the order looked me right in the face and said they must have given it away. I came across this location when I moved to the Morrisville area. I've been a frequent customer for a reason--the burgers are good!...great even. However, there seems to be a disconnect with the person or person(s) creating the order and what is being requested when selecting the 'Craft Your Own' burger option. This is the 2nd time where I have place and order for a burger and there ends up being a missing ingredient that I can't check until I get home. Per the attach photo for a recent order I asked for back, cheddar cheese grilled onions pickles and bbq sauce. The bacon is missing and the last time the pickles, bacon and onion was missing. Way back burgers never disappoints!! I work 20 mins away and the burger and fresh fries are definitely worth every bite. My favorite is the classic burger with lettuce tomato onions pickles and add bacon. My burger was delicious the fries are enough for two to share. Business is booming at Jake's! So much, in fact, that they could easily occupy a space twice their size. Consequently, during the lunch rush tables are crowded and it gets a bit noisy. However, the joint was more than adequately staffed to ensure adequate service. I did hear multiple customers complaining about the time it took for them to get their milkshakes (some got theirs as they finished eating). Overall, the food was good quality. Burgers are made to order with plenty of tasty toppings to choose from. They offer fries and house-made chips as well. Didn't try the shakes on this visit, but the irish cream shake (monthly special) sounds delicious! Prices are reasonable for the amount of food you get. read more

We placed our orders at the same time with the understanding that he'd share his milkshake with me and I'd share my cheese fries with him. This month's M.O.M. (Milkshake of the Month) is Mango. Didn't abbreviation make you smile? I know I did, when I read the sign! I'm not really a mango person, but it was really yummy! Then his burger came out. He ordered the Big Jake -- which is made of 3 patties. Mine literally took almost 10 minutes to come out after his. Mind you, I also ordered cheese fries, but still...I kept checking inside and thank goodness because they seemed unsure of how to find me although all the receipts have printed numbers on them (or the cashier asks your name). Back to the food...my cheese fries had real melted cheese on top -- not your typical artificial cheese sauce. They were cooked perfectly and between Dorian and me, those fries went to a better place! I got it with Ketchup, Mustard, pickles, bacon, and cheddar. Another soild choice for lunch in the Davis Dive/Miami Blvd area. I've been here a few times now and thought it was good, but wasn't overly wowed by anything I've gotten thus far. On my first visit I went with the cheeseburger (one patty), while the second time I gave their grilled chicken sandwich with fries a try. The cheeseburger was decent, and not too greasy which I appreciate, but wasn't too memorable in my opinon. The chicken sandwich was cooked well, with some good crust on it from the grill, but the actual chicken filet was paper thin. Both my stomach and I would have liked it to have been a little more substantial. Jake's has a pretty good variety of menu items to choose from though, which keeps me interested in going back. Hot Dogs, grilled cheese and the BLT all inrigue me, and so do the milkshake options (I need to spluge one day and give it a try, I am a sucker for a good milkshake.) I give it high marks for a chain-style restaurant, both in the quality and wide selection of their menu items. read more

Went here on Friday right around 1:00. Found them to have plenty of personnel, maybe a little too much for such a small place? The seating area is ridiculously small, you can definitely tell they were very unsure when leasing in this area. The food was great, I grabbed a quick burger with onion rings.
