Very nice, homely, well lit ambiance. Going in gives you hometown diner vibes. Everyone was nice and friendly! We tried the catfish, fried chicken, fries, corn and slaw. Oh and the fried pickles were seasoned to perfection. I would give it another go! The fried chicken had a homemade coating that was really crispy and flaky just like I like it. We stopped into Drake's for Breakfast in Grove in mid August. Drake's wasn't very busy when we arrived, and we sat ourselves in a comfy booth. Our waitress was super-friendly, and efficient. We ordered from the menu, and enjoyed our drinks. Our food was on our table in about ten minutes, and it was hot & delicious. By the time we left Drakes, the restaurant was full. I wish I could say that Drake's is as good as it was only months ago but it isn't so, especially if you are looking for a great selection of vegetables. There are plenty of places around that serve a 'meat & potatoes' fare but I always liked Drake's veggie options. Lately, those have failed. The cabbage was brown mush, over cooked and tasteless. Green beans were equally blah. Fried okra?! Not on the menu anymore, nor carrots, fruit salad, sweet potatoes. Beets are not sliced anymore but whole and pickled with way too much clove seasoning. Oh well, I guess I have to forget eating out and just cook at home. read more

Had the catfish buffet, choice of blackened catfish or fried. Chef was as heavy handed with the seasoning, fried potatoes was cold, brown beans under season. Not much selection on the salad bar, wilted iceberg lettuce, peaches tasted sour was looking forward to some good country cooking but NO BUENO. Great prices, a great family greasy spoon down home cooking restaurant. We went there for breakfast and got the Drakes Breakfast. Eggs were cooked to perfection. Need to add salt and pepper but it's on the table so add as you wish! Very fast and friendly service. Clean bathroom. You seat yourself. Great old school diner. The waitress was a sweetheart. The staff was super nice. My food (catfish, homemade mash potatoes and gravy, and fries) was great. My fries were from a bag, but still good. My wife's Rueben was excellent. My Mom's burger was not so great. It was bland. My Stepdad's chicken fried steak looked really good but was really thin. Depending on what you order, it's a great eat. I love me some good old fashioned diner smack in the middle of a small town. The place was simple and needed some updating but it was clean nonetheless. You can do the all you can eat soup and salad bar for $7.99. They even have baked potatoes included on the salad bar. We passed on the soup and salad bar for on the menu items. We had the fried chicken instead. The fried chicken was okay. It was cooked right and had the crunchiness expected of a good fried chicken but it lacked in taste. It seriously needed salt. The sides that came with the chicken also needed taste. The only thing worth eating here are the rolls that came after we placed our order. The rolls were piping hot. We finished the two rolls and the waitress gave us two more. Excellent service and a decent place, but the cook needs to add salt to the food! read more

The decoration is worth stopping in. Makes you think time stopped in the 90s and everyone is ok with that! The food came quickly. It was good, not great. I had the brown beans and corn bread. The beans were good but the added ham wasn't so great. I picked out all of the ham. The service was quick and the location was easy and clean. The new owners at Drake's have improved the customer experience on all fronts. The service and food are better and continue to raise the bar. I am glad to see Drake's making solid gains as Drake's has been a mainstay in Grove for many years. I enjoy their breakfast the most, but lunch is consistent and a great value as well. The waitresses were amazing. Very nice and helpful! The food was ok. I wasn't blown away by it but it was ok. The bathrooms were not super clean but again they were ok. All in all I'd say give it a try yourself it may be better for you. read more

Let me start with this place is clean. It is old and needs some updating. The food is not all that great. The meat lover's omelet was undercooked just a bit but it was loaded. Service was the highpoint of this visit. Seems to be a local hangout. Next time I'll try the breakfast buffet. read more

Decent food, however.... There's something very annoying about going into a busy diner where everyone is working hard and going full-speed...EXCEPT THE OWNER. My husband and I have been consistent patrons of Drake's, but no more. I cannot stand seeing the owner just sitting in a booth in the middle of the hustle and bustle while scolding his employees in front of customers. Very unprofessional. Very rude. Very inconsiderate. Drake's is an awesome diner where locals of Grove go to meet and eat. The food is good but what makes the place special is the community armosphere. People know each other here, the waitresses call you "honey" or "sweetie" and you can tell that the good folks of this town know how to take care of each other. I'd recommend it. read more

If Grove were not a tourist town, I would not leave a review, but I want to warn Yelpers about the food at this place. (As a disclaimer, we live in tiny Langley, on the south side of the lake--we have very few dining options there, so it's not as if I'm some snobby city girl leaving a bad review. I just wanted you to know that.) I had the "homemade" chicken and noodles. Husband and FIL had chicken fried steak (the waitress said that was their signature dish) and MIL had taco salad. The steaks and the chicken and noodles each came with three (!!!) sides. I had beets, mashed potatoes, and a salad. Hubby and FIL had fries, salad, and mashed taters. Let me tell you about those mashed potatoes: they were a heavy, sticky glob of instant mashed potato with gravy that tasted like it had come from the grease from three months ago. When I stuck my fork in them for my first bite, the entire glob lifted up, like one little potato brick. The first bite was my last. The chicken and noodles tasted like the canned stuff, with extra salt. The salads were the sadly area-typical tiny bowl of wilted and watery iceberg lettuce, anemic tomato chunks, and pre-shredded cheese. The fries tasted like that old grease I mentioned earlier. I couldn't manage to eat more than three or four bites of my meal. Hubby, who is not picky about his chicken fried steak, said it was the worst steak he has ever had. FIL and MIL were equally disappointed with their food. The waitress was ok. Nice enough, but never asked us how our food was. I think she probably already knew. I can't understand why this place is still open. It's a crime against food. read more

This is a great little place to have breakfast in Grove, Oklahoma. Apparently, Catfish is their thing since they have a catfish dinner every Saturday night for 8.99. It comes with catfish and three sides. Unfortunately, we were here on a Monday morning, so we ordered breakfast. Kenny ordered the hamburger patty and eggs with hash browns. I ordered the scrambled eggs with cheese and bacon with hash browns. The waitstaff was just as friendly as could be and a lot of the customers seemed to be regulars. Our food arrived promptly and cooked to perfection. Ken loved his steak and my bacon was just perfectly crisp. Its okay. Very very old feeling, nothing like sitting on plastic covered furniture. Weekend Breakfast buffet is okayish, ran out of food several times and we had to wait. Came for dinner for the first time, it was okay. Nothing special. Chicken dinner has 3 sides included for $8.00, sandwich no side for the same price?? So i had to pay an extra two dollars for half an order of fries. Pretty bland food also, almost tasteless. Green beans weren't very warm and tasted like rubber, the cheese on the chicken wasn't even melted. I had to pour salt on my unseasoned philly and use ketchup. I have eaten here once before several months ago and swore I would never go back. I would have reviewed it then but Yelp does not have negative stars... I heard this place was under new ownership and they hired a new cook. I had high hopes that the food improved because there are so few decent places to eat in Grove, OK. Unfortunately, NOTHING has improved. It may have gotten worse if that is even possible. You still cannot give negative stars on Yelp but I'm giving it a NEGATIVE 3 STARS and I think I am being extremely generous! I ordered bacon, eggs, hash browns and toast. How can you mess that up so bad??? There was enough grease on the plate to change the oil in my truck! The hash browns were so overcooked I could have used them to tile a floor. The bacon was just a greasy mess with kind of a strange flavor that I did not recognize. THIS PLACE IS THE WORST FOOD YOU WILL EVER PUT IN YOUR FACE!!! read more

I enjoy this place quite frequently with the lady of the house. We enjoy it ever time we go. Food is usually on point except for a time or two when we had a new cook but even then the owner settled up with us and made everything right away so we could still enjoy our dinner. Drake's is a local family owned business and has a wonderful breakfast buffet on weekends. The food is fresh all the time and is good. No place else in the area has a breakfast buffet that I know of for 40 miles. Tbe buffet is very reasonable priced also. A lot of the local patrons are there on the weekend and you can find out what's going on around the lake and around town . I recommend Drakes for Amy meal but the breakfast buffet is wonderful. read more

Stopped by here when we were in town visiting family. My wife, daughter and I all liked it. Yeah, it's a little dated, but so what? Being from California I found it charming. The service was great. Our server was very attentive, seated us, took our orders promptly, brought our food pretty quick and refilled our drinks all while having what looked like being the only server. She was everywhere. I only gave this place 1 star because I couldn't give them negative stars. The breakfast buffet was practically inedible. You could use the home fries as a hammer if you forgot yours at home, so that's a plus. The bacon was cooked limp, which is the way I like it so I'm not complaining there. The fruit was ok. Sorry we stopped here! At the recommendation of some fellow campers, we decided to stop for lunch on our way out of town. We both had the Tuesday special which was chicken fried steak, and fried chicken. Each meal came with it's selection of three sides. We both had mashed potatoes with gravy and salad. I chose spinach and my husband had the corn. The salads were ok but did come with a few wilted pieces of lettuce. The mashed potatoes and gravy were definitely not homemade. The spinach and the corn were definitely out of a can. The chicken fried steak was the thinnest piece of meat I've ever seen for a chicken fried steak. The meat looked like it was cooked on a flat iron since the meat was soft and not at all crispy. The fried chicken looks and tastes like it was prepared the day before and then heated up in the oven. The only thing good about the meal was the prepackaged rolls. The ice tea was good too. All in all we will not stop here again. read more

My sister, a friend & I went to Grove to see my brother. in a nursing home there. Yesterday.We searched for a restaurant and decided to try Drake's out. About 6:00pm. We are very disappointed, with the service and food we got. My sister and I ordered chicken dinners, with bake potatoes, apple sauce, she got corn, I got green beans, we both ordered cornbread my friend got a shrimp poor boy sandwich, ordered half order of fries. The waitress brought my sisters and my food, and a wing fell off my plate when she got to the table, she said sorry she's bring another one out, then she brought our friends poor boy, no fries, and rolls instead of cornbread. We told her we ordered cornbread, she said that's right, and my friend said his French fries. She said she would get them, she never did, my chicken breast was burnt, and my sisters leg and thigh was close to burnt. I tried telling her and about everything she forgot but she kept ignoring us. Then brought our ticket, So I told her everything she got rude about it all, but said she will take a dollar off for my wing and took the fries off the ticket, but was to rude, we never left her a tip. She should have ever brought out burnt chicken, and should have did our order right especially, after we were kind to point it out to her. And your cook should have never sent it out.
