I called Drumheller's (they were the first to pop up in my search) and I asked to schedule a tow to a shop to put in a new battery. The lady on the phone informed me that one of her guys could come out first thing (7AM) and run a diagnostic check on the car to make sure it was just the battery. If it was, he could replace it right then and there! I called back in the morning at 6:15 and the guy was at our front door by 7AM. Sure enough, it was the battery! So he replaced it, ran my credit card, and I was only 30 minutes behind getting to work. However,…read morewhen NKD towing told me they were coming to rescue me the next morning, not only did they provide a hasty and efficient towing service, but their presence exuded a much-needed sense of calm. NKD was very flexible with where they took my car, adapting to a last-minute request as to where my car was to be towed, because I did not trust the closest auto shop Allstate had recommended. Additionally, NKD recommended me another auto shop that was as amicable and human as the towing service they provide themselves. When I asked for a recommendation, NKD could have easily betrayed my trust and conceived a malicious deal with an auto shop far away to profit off my misfortune, like many other tow companies. BUT they DIDN'T; instead, they called numerous local auto shops, to make sure my car would be assessed soon and recommended me their own personal mechanic, an action in which I harbor appreciation. And even though the new auto shop was farther than the original destination, NKD charged me the same price. All can recall youthful periods in their life in which they were less wealthy and perceived the world beyond the confines of familiarity as nebulous and foreign. Nevertheless, despite my expounding fears, NKD assured me they would take care of me, and they did. With NKD, I felt that I was dealing with a moral and empathetic person rather than a corporation. If one ever experiences automotive troubles along Interstate 81 between Lexington and Harrisonburg, I cannot imagine a better towing company than NKD towing.

He called State police because he was scared and they arrived and told him that he needed to get it off the road as soon as possible. They called the towing company for him and then the State Trooper left. NKD showed up and charged my son !!$405!! to tow his Jeep Grand Cherokee from the exit ramp to Autozone, A MILE AND A HALF!! After being questioned by my insurance company and myself, they stated that it was an emergency tow, mind you it was 2 PM, on a weekday, on a perfectly sunny day. It's not an emergency when there's no accident, he wasn't blocking any lanes, it wasn't a weekend or a holiday and he was completely out of the way of traffic. NKD towing saw a vulnerable young man with JMU college stickers all over the back of his Jeep and they took complete advantage of him. My son is rising Junior at JMU and works two jobs on top of being a full time student! This company clearly practices predatory business tactics and takes advantage when they can. I have started the process with the Attorney General's office to have their towing procedures and fees investigated. I only took this step after my insurance company informed me that they also thought that price was completely outrageous and that it should not have been anywhere near that. They would only reimburse a certain amount to which their standard would cover because the man charged him way outside of what a standard tow should be. Southside Towing and Services in Waynesboro, VA quoted $100 for that tow. Tumbleweed Towing in Grottoes, VA quoted $120 for that tow. So tell me why my son was charged $405 for a mile and a half tow...

He said I needed wheel bearing without even looking at speed sensor or electrical system. Charged me $125. Without even touching the car or looking at the speed sensor. Poor customer service and expensive. Most repair places would do this for free. Will not return to this shop.
