I stopped by Wayo for the first time yesterday evening to grab some sushi takeout after having the restaurant recommended to me by a friend. I was greeted by a host who provided me with a menu after I asked to order takeout. He was very helpful with answering my questions about the menu, providing recommendations, and giving me a time estimate for when my food will be ready. He told me that it would be about 15 minutes-- and 10 minutes later my shrimp udon and my spicy salmon roll were ready to go! Not only was the service great and quick, but the food itself was very good. It was pretty reasonably priced (I got a fairly large serving of udon with 5 large shrimp and an 8 piece roll for $19 after tax) and had great flavor. The spicy salmon roll has a more generous portion of fish in it than most restaurants seem to give on a "cheaper" roll. Overall, I really enjoyed the food and will definitely be returning to Wayo for takeout or a sit down meal. read more

We were in the mood for sushi and wanted to try a new place. We came on a Friday evening around 8pm and the place was quiet. We were one of two tables. After tasting our food I was shocked that this place wasn't packed out. We started with Miso soup and Crab Rangoon, both were delicious. The Miso soup is one of, if not the, best I've ever had. The Crab Rangoons were stuffed with cream cheese and real shredded crab meat, fried to perfection and not overly crunchy. For our entrees we had the Chicken Yakisoba and the Rich & Famous roll. The Yakisoba had great flavor. The veggies were cooked perfectly and enhanced the flavor of the dish. Most noodle dishes are more noodle than veggies and meat. Not the case here! The Rich & Famous roll is definitely rich with flavor. It was plated beautifully and not overly doused with sauces. Needless to say, we thoroughly enjoyed our dinner. I absolutely love this place! I moved here for college 3 years ago and this by FAR is the best sushi spot in Springfield. I always do pick up, and the rolls are phenomenal every time. I can be somewhat picky with my sushi quality and they nail it every time. I can't speak to anything except the sushi and seaweed salad (yum) but it's definitely number one. My wife and I are total foodies. We lived in Southern California for 32 years where a person can get the best of everything. Since moving here in early 2016, we have had one bad dining experience after another; So much so that we cook at home more often than we ever have. We tried Wayo on a suggestion from a friend. We entered with trepidation due to their location and past dining experiences, and we were more than pleasantly surprised! Their staff is over-the-top friendly and the sushi and rolls were excellent. They are a little on the slow side, but I think that is more a kitchen staffing issue than anything. We did have one specialty roll that was a little heavy on the mayo, but overall we were happy enough that we returned the next night and brought relatives that were in from out of town. They too were very happy with the quality and taste if the food. They are really into presentation and know how to plate their food, and on that front I'd give them 5 stars. They also make their own low-sodium soy sauce in-house which does just trick without crowding out taste, Overall, I'm giving them 4 stars because 5 should be reserved for the best of the best. At the end of the day, I don't think you'll find a much better sushi experience in the Springfield area. We will be regulars. read more

Had a great experience here. Our server was very nice and helpful, very knowledgeable about the menu. I ordered the the 8 piece sushi dinner and the wife ordered the chicken yaki soba. Our server brought our miso soup and my salad, which my wife groaned not realizing her meal didn't come with one. The server offered to add one for her, which we wanted, a returned very quickly with hers. Miso soup is one of my favorites and there's was really good. The dressing on the salad had good flavor that wasn't too strong, we both really enjoyed the soup and salad. My sushi was brought out on a serving dish shaped like a bridge, it was really interesting and fun. I did overestimate my appetite in ordering the 8 piece as the nigiri had very thick cut pieces of fish and tasted amazing. It had been a while since having really good sushi and had forgotten just how filling good sushi can be. The wife only had a few bites of her yaki soba after filling up on her salad, soup, and half of my California rolls, but did say it tasted really good. Some other things, they must have had a shift change while we were there as a different server brought our main dishes out and tended to us the after that, they handled the change over very well. The booths are mostly closed in and they have curtains draping the entry, we really liked the privacy it provided and, for us, enhanced our experience. We have found our new go-to spot for a really nice dinner out. Our ticket came out to a little under $60 before the tip and we felt it was well worth it, however I will probably go with the smaller portion of sushi next time, not because of the price, but because the 4 or 6 piece would be enough to be filling. read more

Tried this place for the first time and we will definitely be back. This was my first time dining out sushi. The exterior of the restaurant is very nice. When we walked in, we were immediately greeted by 3 employees and seated promptly in a private little " room ". In addition to the regular menu, a laminated paper with a dry erase marker was left for us to mark our sushi selections. The sushi options were nearly endless, taking 3 rows of 1 side of the laminated card. The nice gentleman brought us some Wasabi cucumbers and took our drink order and returned to answer our questions and gave some newbie recommendations for sushi. We ended up sharing a chicken teriyaki dinner and a Rich & Famous roll. The salad's dressing was made in house and was amazing, as was the Miso soup. The chicken teriyaki was tender and the veggies crisp and the sushi was amazing. Although the layout of the restaurant is designed for parties of 4 or less in the little cubby rooms, there are some larger seating for a bigger dining group. The restaurant is decorated very nicely. It appears to be a family owned and operated, as I was introduced to the owner, her husband and her sister. Although I was initially overwhelmed with the sushi selections, I am pleased that we tried this restaurant and I will bring my self proclaimed sushi aficionado friends back with me and am sure that they will feel as I do. read more

Tried Wayo's for the first time, and was craving some decent sushi around 3pm (which was pretty awesome, considering a lot of our sushi places are not open at 3pm) My first impression of the place was it was pretty dark, but had some cute decor, but I also notice how emptied it was. After receiving the menu, the hostess (I wish I got her name) was super helpful and recommand some of their specialty rolls for me. The two rolls I ordered had A LOT of the Japanese Mayo sauce on it, which I feel they relay on that to give the roll a kick, but to me, it was overbearing. The service was extremely slow and there were not that many patrons for it to be that slow. My group was about 10 people and our beverages were not filled once after we received them. We came in about an hour and a half before closing on a Sunday. There was a huge storm that drenched us on the run from the curb to the restaurant, so we plopped down on the sofa in the lobby as there was a grouping of about 6 kids waiting. The kids left and we still hadn't been greeted, this was about 5 minutes in. It was obvious they were understaffed and rushing around furiously to take care of the handful of customers that were already dining. The gentleman owner was servicing the tables, busing the tables, and handling the bills. His wife was making sushi from the time we arrived to the time that we left. About 10 minutes in the gentleman owner came over and explained they were severely short-staffed for the night and would guarantee us a spot if we could wait about another 30 minutes. We were in no rush and had eaten here before and were really craving the spicy chicken teriyaki so we just chatted on the couch until our time came. Once sat, he thanked us profusely for waiting and understanding. Everything else went off without a hitch and it was THE BEST service I had ever received dining out, including very high-end restaurants that I've been to. At the end we were rewarded with a complimentary green tea dessert that was amazing! Himself and his wife brought the dessert out and again thanked us profusely. You could tell how badly they felt that they had to turn away customers and had us waiting for so long. Very kind people, an intimate dining experience, well priced and great tasting.
